Prashant Pillai composes for Anurag Kashyap’s widely acclaimed
Mukkabaaz!!

Prashant Pillai is a highly talented musician whose body of work speaks volumes about his range. He has predominantly worked in Malayalam and Hindi while also occasionally composing for Tamil, Telugu and Marathi films. Recently, Prashant took to his social media space to express his excitement about working for an Anurag Kashyap film.

Apparently, Prashanth has composed the background score for the ace filmmaker’s widely acclaimed movie Mukkabaaz. It is a sports drama film which was screened at the special presentations section at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival. Recently, it was also being screened at the Mumbai Academy of the Moving Image (MAMI) fest.

Mukkabaaz is jointly scripted by
Anurag Kashyap, Vineet Kumar Singh, Mukti Singh Srinet, KD Satyam, Ranjan Chandel and Prasoon Mishra. The movie stars Vineet Kumar Singh, Zoya Hussain, Ravi Kishan, Jimmy Shergill, Sadhana Singh and Rajesh Tailang in major roles. Malayali cinematographers Rajeev Ravi and Jayesh Nair are also associated with this movie.

Prashant’s last work in Malayalam was for Bejoy Nambiar’s Solo. His song ‘Roshomon’, which appears in the Rudra portions in the anthology, has become a rage among the youngsters. Earlier this year, his stellar work in Lijo Jose Pellissery’s Angamaly Diaries won him appreciation from all corners. Nivin Pauly’s Sakhavu and Kunchacko Boban starrer Varnyathil Aashanka were his other films in 2017.

Last day, the legendary Amitabh Bachchan celebrated his 75th birthday. Karan Johar took this opportunity to announce his new project with the superstar. Big B will be teaming up with two of the most talented actors of this generation, Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt for a fantasy adventure series. Ayan Mukerji will be directing this movie, which is being planned as a trilogy. Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions is backing this ambitious project.

Ayan Mukerji is well known for his films like Wake Up Sid and Jawaani Hai Deewani. He has scripted Brahmastra as a fantasy adventure film that needs to be made on a wide canvas. Earlier in an interview he had said that Ranbir Kapoor will have to train thoroughly in gymnastics and martial arts for the movie. He is quoted saying, “There is lot of action in the film, so there is lot of training, like gymnastics kind of training, horse riding, fighting and lot of physical stuff that Ranbir will have to do.”

The makers have announced that the first part of this trilogy will hit the screens on August 15, 2019. Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions is collaborating with Fox Star Studios and Prime Focus for this big budget movie. As per reports, the movie will be made on a whopping budget of approximately 150 crores. The announcement looks very promising and it will be interesting to watch three incredibly talented actors Amitabh Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt in one frame.

Currently, Amitabh Bachchan is busy shooting for Thugs Of Hindostan in which he is sharing screen space with Aamir Khan. Ranbir Kapoor is finishing Sanjay Dutt’s biopic, directed by Rajkumar Hirani and Alia Bhatt is awaiting the release of Meghna Gulzar’s Raazi.

Prithviraj’s debut directorial Lucifer starring Mohanlal to go floors by next May!

Prithviraj’s directorial debut Lucifer starring Mohanlal has now been in the talks for over an year now. That is the level of expectations about this film as two of the biggest stars in Malayalam cinema are teaming up for the first time. Murali Gopy, known for his powerful writings is scripting this film and it will be produced under the banner of Mohanlal’s Aashirvad Cinemas.

Since Mohanlal and Prithviraj have committed for a handful of other projects, there has been an uncertainty about when Lucifer will commence. Much to the delight of the fans, Murali Gopy informed that they are planning to go on floors by next May. He revealed this bit of information during an interaction with his Facebook followers.

Murali Gopy went on to add that Prithviraj is like his brother and hoped that their combination will bring out a quality output. Ever since the movie’s announcement, there have been several speculations about the genre and theme of this film.

In a recent interview to Film Companion, Prithviraj gave some hints about the project. He said that Lucifer, like all Murali Gopy films, will be an intense film that demands strong performances from the actors. Unlike Tiyaan, Lucifer is a film based completely on the ground reality in Kerala. Murali Gopy is known for his powerful scripts like Left Right Left, Ee Adutha Kaalathu and 1 by Two.

More details regarding the cast and crew of Lucifer are yet to be announced officially.

We had already reported about Mammootty playing the lead in cinematographer Shamdat’s directorial debut Street Lights. The movie is being made as a bilingual in Tamil and Malayalam. Following the release of Street Lights’ Malayalam posters, the makers have also released the first look posters of the Tamil version.

Unlike most bilinguals, Street Lights was shot separately in both languages with different set of actors. The Malayalam version stars Joy Mathew, Dharmajan Bolgatty, Neena Kurup, Lijomol Jose, Sohan Seenulal, Indrans, Sudhi Koppa and Harish Kanaran. Manobala, Black Pandi, Motta Rajendran and some other noted supporting actors feature in the Tamil version. The movie doesn’t have a heroine as such, as it is a tale of many characters.

From the first look posters, Street Lights looks like an action packed treat is in store for the fans. The movie is being made as a bilingual in Tamil and Malayalam. Scripted by newcomer Fawaz Muhammed, Street Lights is a crime thriller featuring Mammootty in the role of an investigation officer.

The movie is funded by Mammootty’s own production house Playhouse Pictures. Iyobinte Pusthakam fame Yakzan Pereira and Neha Nair are handling the background score and debutant Adarsh Abraham has composed the songs. Director Shamdat’s brother Sadat Sainudeen has cranked the camera.

Shamdat is a renowned cameraman who was worked in all four South Indian languages. Some of his notable works include Ritu, Seniors, Uttama Villain. He is also the DOP in Kamal Haasan’s upcoming magnum opus Vishwaroopam 2.

Shoot for Streetlights has already been completed and Mammootty has also finished dubbing for his portions. An official announcement regarding the release date is expected to made very soon.

Rajeev Ravi and Nivin Pauly to team up for a movie based on the life of NN Pillai

Nivin Pauly is unarguably one of the most sought after Malayali actors currently. The actor celebrated his 33rd birthday last day and what better day to announce a new project. Ace filmmaker Rajeev Ravi is teaming up with Nivin Pauly for a movie based on the life of legendary theatre artist N Narayana Pillai. E4 Entertainment is producing this highly exciting project.

The announcement came late last night through E4 Entertainment’s official Facebook page. This yet-to-be-titled movie is a biopic on NN Pillai, a legendary drama artist and a freedom fighter. The movie will showcase his life as a young soldier alongside Nethaji Subash Chandra Bose in the Indian National Army (INA) and his days as a drama artist.

According to the makers, the story spans across continents and will reflect the history of Kerala and the role of Keralites in INA. NN Pillai is well known among the movie lovers of Kerala for his amazing performance as the patriarch Anjooran in the classic movie Godfather. He is also the father of veteran actor Vijayaraghavan.

As per reports, Gopan Chidamabram, who penned Amal Neerad’s period drama Iyobinte Pusthakam, will be scripting this upcoming movie. More details regarding other cast and crew members is expected to be announced in the coming days. The makers are planning to start shoot by early next year.

Rajeev Ravi is known for extracting the maximum out of his actors and it is certain that he will showcase Nivin Pauly in a never before seen dimension. The two are currently working together in Moothon, which is being directed by Rajeev Ravi’s wife Geetu Mohandas. Rajeev is wielding the camera in the movie.

It is already known that Vijay’s next (Vijay 62) after the ongoing Mersal will be with ace filmmaker AR Murugadoss. This will be his third film with the ace filmmaker after the blockbusters Thuppakki and Kaththi, both of which entered the elite 100 crore club. It is learnt that the makers are planning to start shoot by January next year.

In a recent interview, AR Murugadoss had revealed that the blockbuster duo’s next outing will be an unusual project. The movie will be high on emotions and is focusing on showcasing Vijay as a performer. He assured that he will be showing Vijay in an all new dimension.

AR Murugadoss is one filmmaker who very well knows how to utilize the acting potential and star power of Vijay. Almost all his movies have been money spinners that have also found critical acclaim. So, expectations are sky-high when the duo are teaming up for the third time.

There are unconfirmed reports about Sun Pickbuster Enthiran, released back in 2010. Young sensation Anirudh Ravichander is rumoured be to composing for Vijay 62. His music was one of the major selling points in Vijay-ARM team’s last outing Kaththi.

Villain is finally gearing up for release this 27 and the fans are all excited about that. This B Unnikrishnan directorial is one of the most awaited movies of the year. Apart from Mohanlal, the movie also stars noted actors like Manju Warrier, Vishal, Hansika Motwani Srikanth and Raashi Khanna. Rockline Films is making their entry to Mollywood by funding this big budget movie.

Villain is a crime thriller in which Mohanlal plays the role of a police office. Vishal will be seen as a doctor and his is said to be a grey shaded role. As per the director, Villain is not a loud mass masala film. It is more of an emotional thriller that follows a very serious mood.

The fight sequences in Villain have been choreographed by some of India’s leading stunt masters. Reportedly, three stunt masters are associated with this movie – Ram Laxman, Ravi Varma and G. The Ram-Laxam duo is known for their spectacular works in films like Magadheera, Mirchi and Sarrainodu. Ravi Varma has choreographed action blocks in films like Raees, Dhruva and Irumugan. G is noted for his stylish work in the Tamil whodunit thriller Dhuruvangal 16.

With the involvement of such an ensemble team of fight masters, action lovers can be assured of a real treat in Villain. Unlike Pulimurugan where the stunts were wild and ferocious, the action blocks in Villain will be more stylish and refined. Mohanlal had shed a few kilos before starting the shoot as his character in the movie demanded a trimmer look.

Villain has a good line up technicians associated with it. Cinematography is handled by Manoj Paramahamsa and NK Ekambaram. Songs are composed by Oppam fame 4 Musics while background score is done by Ezra fame Sushin Shyam. Shameer Mohammed of Charlie and Angamaly Diaries fame is in charge of the edits.

Rockline Entertainments will be distributing the film through Maxlab. In Kerala alone, they are eyeing to release it in a whopping 300+ centres. So, a massive opening is definitely on cards for Villain.

Mollywood’s handsome young star Nivin Pauly is celebrating his 33rd birthday today. The actor is being showered with wishes from well-wishers and colleagues across the globe. This year’s birthday is more special as the family welcomed the arrival of his baby girl. On the professional front, Nivin’s last release Njandukalude Naatil Oridavela (NNOI) continues to do good business even after a month of its release. The success of NNOI is double sweet as Nivin has funded the movie as well.

The actor has a busy year ahead of him with a handful of projects in his kitty. As announced earlier, Nivin will be doing two Tamil films next year. He enjoys a big fan following in Tamil Nadu post the massive success of Premam.

Director Prabhu Radhakrishnan is noted for his television show Kanaa Kaalum Kalangal. He had also directed the promo song ‘Sirikadhe’ in Sivakarthikeyan’s Remo. For his debut movie with Nivin, the director has roped in Thanuj, choreographer Brinda, art director T Muthuraj and Anand Krishnamoorthi as part of the technical team.

This upcoming movie will be Nivin’s second straight Tamil film after the yet-to-be released Richie. Directed by debutant Gautham Ramachandran, Richie is the official remake of Kannada blockbuster Ulidavaru Kandanthe. It is expected to hit screens by the end of this year.

2.0, the much awaited sequel to Rajinikanth’s 2010 blockbuster Enthiran is nearing its completion. The final song shoot and some patch up works are are currently going on in sets erected in Chennai. Meanwhile, the makers have released the new look of Amy Jackson, who presumably plays a robot in the movie.

2.0 marks Amy Jackson’s second outing with director Shankar after the Vikram starrer I. Amy has a very prominent role in 2.0 and will be seen throughout the movie. It will be interesting to see how the British beauty performs as a robot alongside a big star like Rajinikanth.

This upcoming sci-fi thriller features Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar as the antagonist. Akshay is making his South Indian debut by essaying the role of a crazy scientist in 2.0. Adil Hussain, Sudhanshu Pandey, Malayali actor Kalabhavan Shajon and Riyaz Khan are also part of the cast.

Lyca Productions is investing a mammoth budget of Rs 450 crores, which is the highest for any Indian film currently under production. The makers had recently announced that the movie’s audio launch will be held on October 27 in Dubai. It will be a grand affair and composer AR Rahman will be performing live in the event. The teaser will be released in November and trailer in December.

Recently, the makers of had announced that the first song video will be releasing today evening. Now, they have published the song a bit earlier much to the delight of the fans. This melodious track ‘Kandittum Kandittum’ is rendered by legendary playback singer KJ Yesudas. BK Harinarayanan has penned the lyrics.

Mohanlal and Manju Warrier, who play a couple in the film, feature in the song video. 4 Musics, who made a highly impressive debut last year with Oppam, is composing the songs in Villain. Background score is done by Ezra fame Sushin Shyam.
