Superstar Rajinikanth is currently busy shooting for his upcoming movie Kaala in Mumbai. The movie, directed by Kabali director Pa Ranjith is a gangster drama set in the backdrop of Mumbai city.

The movie’s first look poster had Rajinikanth sitting on top of a jeep that had the number plate BR 1956. Interestingly, this symbolises the legendary social reformer Dr BR Ambedkar and the year he passed away.

Speculations are rife that the movie will feature some aspects about Ambedkar’s life. All of Pa Ranjith’s movies have the pro-Dalit element and he is a huge fan of Ambedkar. According to the latest buzz, Megastar Mammootty will be playing the role of Ambedkar in Kaala. Though the reports are not yet confirmed, there are enough reasons to believe it.

Mammootty immortalised Ambedkar’s role in his biopic Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. He also won the National Award for best actor for his stellar perfomace in the movie. If reports about Kaala turns true, then it will be a huge treat for fans of both the actors. Last time, Rajinikanth and Mammootty shared screen space was for Mani Ratnam’s cult classic blockbuster Thalapathy.

Kaala, which comes with the tagline Karikalan is about a guy from Tirunelveli, who runs away in his childhood to Mumbai to become an influential don living in the slums of Dharavi. Bollywood actress Huma Qureshi has been roped in to play the female lead. Nana Patekar, Samuthirakani, Anjali Patil, Ramesh Thilak, Sukanya, Sampath Raj, Arvind and many others are also part of the cast.

Santhosh Narayanan is handling the music department while Murali G is cranking the camera. Veteran Sreekar Prasad is in charge of the edits. Rajinikanth’s son-in-law and actor Dhanush is producing this gangster flick under his banner Wunderbar Films.

Kaala will be dubbed and released in Hindi and Telugu as well. The makers are planning to wrap up the shoot by the end of the year and are planning to release it by summer next year.

Ilayathalapathy Vijay is turning 43 on the 22nd of this month and his fans have been arranging extensive celebrations all across Tamil Nadu. It is a common practice these days to re-release blockbuster movies of big stars’ on their birthdays. Likewise, on this birthday, Vijay’s four movies are being re-released in Tamil Nadu.

According to reports from Kollywood media, Pokkiri, Kaththi, Thuppakki and Thalaivaa will be screened in selected centres in Tamil Nadu. Vijay fans are going all out to make their matinee idol’s birthday a very memorable one.

As a treat for the actor’s fans, the title and first look poster of Vijay’s upcoming with director Atlee will be released. Tentatively titled as Vijay 61, it is one of the most anticipated Tamil movies of the year. Baahubali writer KV Vijayendra has penned the story and Atlee has written the screenplay.

Vijay is playing a triple role for the first time in his career and he will be seen in multiple looks in the movie. Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Nithya Menen and Kajal Agarwal are playing the female leads.
SJ Suryah will be seen as the villain while Sathyaraj, Sathyan, Vadivelu and Kovai Sarala are also part of the cast. AR Rahman is handing the music department. The movie is produced by Sri Thenandal Films.

Kerala Box Office : Baahubali 2 Collection Report 35 Days

Baahubali 2 : The Conclusion continues to garner good response all across the globe even a month of it’s release. In the Kerala box office, the movie is doing unprecedented business for a non-Malayalam movie.

As per trade sources, the movie has grossed a whopping Rs 69.50 crores from it’s 35 days theatrical run in the Kerala box office alone. The distributors United Global Media had bought the rights of Baahubali 2: The Conclusion for an amount of Rs 13 crores. This indicates that the distributor’s alone is estimated to be around Rs 40 crores.

Baahubali 2 is already the highest grossing non-Malayalam movie in Kerala. Upon it’s release on April 28, the movie registered a new record for the highest first day grosser in the state by raking in Rs 5.90 crores. Ever since then, the movie has been getting phenomenal response from the Keral audience.

Despite a slew of releases like Dulquer Salmaan’s CIA, Ramante Edanthottam, Tovino Thomas starrer Godha and Achayans, Baahubali 2 has managed to hold firm at the box office. The movie was released in Telugu, Malayalam, Tamil and Hindi languages in Kerala. In the worldwide box office, this SS Rajamouli directorial has crossed over Rs 1600 crore mark.

Anushka Shetty is one of the very few female actors in the South to enjoy a huge fan following. The audience are eagerly looking forward for her upcoming movies. Her next release will be Bhagmati, a comic horror thriller. Shoot for the movie has already been completed and the team is currently bust working on the post production.

Bhagmati stars Aadhi Pinisetty and Malayali actors Unni Mukundan, Jayaram and Asha Sarath in pivotal roles. Recently, Anushka posted a photo on her Facebook with her co-star Unni Mukundan. She wrote,

Tail end of Bhagmati…. thank you Unni for being such a wonderful co star, friend, your simplicity, talent and the person you are will always make you stand out…Wish you happiness and success in all that you do always forever..
looking forward for more. (sic)

Unni Mukundan, who is one of the busiest among the younger generation of actors in Mollywood, is trying to gain a foothold in the Telugu industry. The actor made his debut in Tollywood by playing the antagonist in last year’s blockbuster movie Janatha Garage.
Unni also took to social media to share his excitement working with Anushka Shetty. He had written,

“So I finished shooting for Bhagmati (Telugu/Tamil/Malayalam) just now. Expect it to hit the theatres at the earliest

Bhagmati, directed by G Ashok is made as a multilingual. The movie is being dubbed in Hindi, Malayalam and Tamil languages. It is shot on a big scale involving lot of VFX works. Pramod and V Vamsi Krishna Reddy are jointly producing this big budget movie under the banner of UV Creations.

Kerala Box Office : Godha 14 Days Collection Report

Godha has entered it’s third week of it’s theatrical run and it continues to get good response from the audience. The movie, directed by Kunjiramayanam fame Basil Joseph is a fun filled entertainer with wrestling as the core element.

Godha stars Tovino Thomas, Punjabi actress Wamiqa Gabbi and Renji Panicker in the lead roles. The movie is written by Thira fame Rakesh Mantodi. Godha opened to excellent response from all the release centres.

Critics also gave positive reports for the movie. The fact that it is a rollicking comedy entertainer has attracted the families to the theatres. Aju Varghese, Hareesh Perumanna, Dharmajan Bolgatty, Sreejith Ravi, Kottayam Pradeep and Biju Kuttan take care of the humour department in the movie.

As per the latest reports from trade sources, Godha has grossed Rs 10.10 crores from it’s 14 day run in the Kerala box office. This is a decent figure which is expected to go up in the coming days.

Godha is produced by AV Anoop, CV Sarathy and Mukesh R Mehta under the banner of E4Entertainment. Shaan Rahman has composed the music while Vishnu Sarma cranked the camera. Aanandam fame Abhinav Sunder Nayak has edited the movie.

SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus Baahubali 2: The Conclusion continues to wreak havoc in the box office all across the country. The movie has already grossed over Rs 1600 crores and is currently the second highest grosser in Indian cinema after Aamir Khan’s Dangal. The Baahubali franchise has emerged a huge success proving the real potential of Indian movies in the global market.

However, legendary filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan feels that Baahubali has not contributed anything to Indian cinema. According to him, Baahubali is just another Patala Bhairavi, a Telugu fantasy film released back in 1951. He added that he would not even spend Rs 10 for watching this movie.

It is worth a mention that Adoor Gopalakrishnan had come out criticising the jury when Baahubali: The Beginning won the National Award for best film in 2015. He felt that National Award, and how it was instituted to award high quality films. He said, “When Bahubali gets a National Award, it’s devastating and sends a bad message to influencers.”

Meanwhile, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion has crossed it’s first month of theatrical run. The movie’s Hindi version recently created a new record by becoming the first ever Hindi film to earn Rs 500 crores. Apart from this, it has also become the first film to gross over Rs 300 crores in the twin Telugu states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The makers are now planning a wide release in China.

Some online medias had first published the news which later viral in social medias. Finally, the director himself has come out clarifying that there are no plans, currently, to make a second part for the movie.

Drishyam is a family drama cum thriller in which Mohanlal played the role of Georgekutty and Meena played his wife’s role Rani. At a particular point, the family has to face a situation that can ruin all their lives. How they get themselves out of it forms the crux of the story. The movie has an open open end for a sequel but since the makers have no plans to make one, let’s hope that the talks die down soon.

Jeethu Joseph, meanwhile is prepping up for the shoot of his much anticipated movie with Mohanlal’s son Pranav in the lead. Tollywood star Allu Arjun’s upcoming movie Duvvada Jagannadham has landed in a controversy after Brahmin community alleged that the makers are trying to show them in poor light. Members of the community have threatened the makers that they are planning an agitation against the film.

Apparently, they are offended against the use of a line Nammakam Chammakam from the track ‘Asmaika Yoga…Thasmaika Boga’ in the movie. Earlier, the members of Telangana Brahmana Seva Samiti filed a written complaint to Censor Board seeking a ban on the song, ‘Gudilo Badilo Madilo Vadilo’, from the same movie.

The agitators have informed that they are planning to approach the Chief Ministers of both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The movie’s lyrics are penned by Sahithi, while popular music director Devi Sri Prasad composed the songs.

Duvvada Jagannadham aka DJ is written and directed by Harish Shankar. The movie stars model turned actress Pooja Hegde as the female lead. Director Harish Shankar is known for his blockbusters movies like Gabbar Singh and Mirapakay. Duvvada Jagannadham is produced by Dil Raju under the banner Sri Venkateswara Creations.

SS Rajamouli’s action epic drama Baahubali 2: The Conclusion continues to get great response from the audience. It’s been a month over the movie’s release but there seem to be no real downfall in the collections.

The Prabhas- Rana starrer recently crossed the 1600 crore mark at the box office from it’s earnings in all the versions. According to latest reports, Baahubali 2 has grossed Rs 1345 crores in India from all the langues. In the overseas market, the movie has grossed over Rs 307, taking the worldwide gross to well past Rs 1600 crores.

The movie’s Hindi version recently created a new record by becoming the first ever Hindi film to earn Rs 500 crores. It is the first Indian film to have earned Rs 500 crore in any language in the domestic market. Apart from this, it has also become the first film to gross over Rs 300 crores in the twin Telugu states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

The makers are now planning a massive release in China. The humongous success of Aamir Khan starrer Dangal has surely inspired the makers of Baahubali to plan a wide release. The first part- Baahubali: The Beginning was released in 6000 screens in the country but it could not create a big impact there. However, the makers are very optimistic this time around and have made it clear that they are looking to release the film with a proper strategy in China, Japan, Taiwan and the Latin American countries among others.
