Georgettan’s Pooram review : old wine in old bottle !

Georgettan’s Pooram review : old wine in old bottle !

Dileep is finally back to big screens after a gap of over six months with Georgettan’s Pooram. From the trailer and songs itself it was evident that Georgettan’s Pooram also follows the usual pattern of other Dileep movies.

Georgettan’s Pooram is centred around the story of George Vadakkan (Dileep), a priest’s son. George and his friends are jobless streetside-romeos leading a very causal life. George meanwhile falls in love with Rajisha Vijayan’s character, who aspires to be a nun.

George and his friends comfortably spend their time lazing around in Mathai Parambu rather than taking up a job. Years back, Mathai Mallan won a gold medal in Kabbadi and he donates this ground to the church. The movie revolves around the background of this ground and the various problems associated with it.

Like his previous movies, Georgettan’s Pooram also has no place for logic. There are only a very few genuine humour scenes in this movie eventhough they have forcibly included many such sequences. Double meaning and obscene jokes are aplenty in the movie. Just like most of the Dileep starrers, this one is also a story about a lazy and good for nothing youth turning into an overnight hero.

Dileep has used the Thrissur dialect in this movie and he has used the same flavour of his previous films. As usual, he has tried to make his role look good. Though Rajisha Vijayan did not have anything substantial to do in the movie, she played her part well even with the limited scope.

Vinay Forrt and Sharafudheen who played the friends’ characters were below average in most of the scenes. The director did not have any command over the movie and that’s obvious from the performances. Chemban Vinod Jose, Renji Panicker and TG Ravi are also part of the cast. TG Ravi deserves a special mention for his performance.

Gopi Sunder’s background score was apt for the mood of the movie. Cinematography, editing and all other technical departments were just mediocre.

Major negative in the movie is the lack of depth in YV Rajesh’s screenplay. It’s pretty hard to make a movie out of such clichéd scenes and poorly written dialogues, but director K Biju has succeeded in churning it into a movie. But as a filmmaker, he should do some thinking about testing the patience of the audience with such movies.

Haneef Adeni’s next with Mohanlal?

Haneef Adeni’s next with Mohanlal?

Haneef Adeni’s debut movie The Great Father starring Megastar Mammootty in the lead is creating waves in the Kerala box office. The movie was released on March 30 amidst humongous hype, probably the biggest ever for a debut director’s film. True to the hype, the movie registered a new record for the highest first day grosser in Kerala.

With his debut work itself Haneef Adeni has shown that he is someone with a great visual sense and his ability to churn out mass entertainers. The Great Father has quite a few mass moments aimed majorly at the fans. Such commercial directors are essential for the growth of an industry as mass entertainers can spin some big numbers at the box office.

Specualtions are rife about Haneef Adeni teaming with Mohanlal for his next movie. Few months back, during the post production works of The Great Father, he had posted a photo with Mohanlal in his official Facebook account. That fuelled all sorts of specualtions and discussions in social medias. But there is still no official confirmation regarding Mohanlal’s teaming up with Haneef Adeni.

Mohanlal is currently busy shooting for B Unnikrishnan’s Villain, in which he is playing an ex-cop. By the end of May, he will start shooting for his next movie Odiyan, which is touted to be the most expensive movie ever made in Malayalam cinema. Odiyan will be directed by popular ad filmmaker VA Shrikumar Menon and written by National award winner Harikrishnan. Mohanlal’s home production house Aashirvad Cinemas is funding this movie. Apart from that, he also has Randamoozham, a movie with Priyadarshan and Prithviraj’s debut directorial Lucifer waiting to go on floors.

Meanwhile, there are also reports about Haneef directing Prithviraj Sukumaran in his next movie. It must be remembered that the director had initially approached Prithviraj to play the lead in The Great Father. But it was Prithviraj who suggested that Mammootty for the role and he instead agreed to produce the movie under the banner August Cinemas.

Before jumping into conclusions, let’s wait for an official word from the director himself about his next movie. Stay tuned for more updates.
