I am very happy that Prithviraj chose to cast me for his directorial debut Lucifer: Mohanlal

The team of Lucifer- Mohanlal, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Murali Gopy and Antony Perumbavoor had their first press meet today in Kochi. The meet was streamed live in Facebook via Mohanlal’s official page.

They have announced that the movie will go on floors by May next year after Mohanlal and Prithviraj wrap up their prior commitments. Scripting for the movie is yet to be complete and only then details about the cast and budget will be revealed. Prithviraj said that Lucifer has just official taken off and they will be informing more details once they flesh out the complete script.

While talking to the press people Mohanlal said he was very excited to work with Murali Gopy and Prithviraj. Mohanlal had a very close relationship with both their fathers, Bharath Gopy and Sukumaran. So when the two approached Mohanlal for a project he immediately comitted to it.

Mohanlal also added, “Prithvi had earlier told me about his interest in direction. I am happy that he chose to cast me for his debut directorial.”

Murali Gopy said that he is well aware of Mohanlal’s stardom. But assured that there will not be any compromise on the content or quality. Mohanlal’s home production house Aashirvad Cinemas will be producing this highly anticipated movie.

Nazriya Nazim was at the peak of her career when she married her Bangalore Days co-star Fahadh Faasil. News about their relationship came in as a huge surprise. Their age difference was the sole reason but over the past two years, they have become one of the most loved celebrity couples of Mollywood.

But how did it all get started? Fahadh himself spilled the beans in a recent chat session with RJ Shaan of Club FM UAE. Interestingly, it was Nazriya who proposed first. They were shooting for Anjali Menon’s Banglore Days when Nazriya all of a sudden asked him if he can marry her. Fahadh was stunned by the sudden proposal but instantly nodded and assured that he will be there for the rest of her life.

Fahadh admitted that women have always fascinated him but it was something very special with Nazriya. He had never come across such a proposal and that was when he realised that he should spend the rest of his life with this girl.

When quizzed about how good a wife Nazriya is, he said, she is a fantastic wife who changed his whole carefree lifestyle. Fahadh also assured that she will soon make a comeback. Nazriya has been listening to a lot of scripts and she will definitely do one when something exciting comes her way.

However, Fahadh is not really okay with the idea of acting together. He is apprehensive about the concept of waking up from the same bed, applying the make up and shooting together. When she is ready to act, Fahadh is willing to be home and look after the other things.

It’s the seasons of weddings in Mollywood. Actor Maqbool Salmaan got married yesterday and recently actress Bhavana also got engaged to Kannada producer Naveen

Latest to join the list is actress Gauthami Nair. The doe eyed actress married director Srinath Rajendran today, in a private ceremony in her hometown Alappuzha.

Gauthami made her debut in 2012 through Srinath Rajendran’s Second Show opposite Dulquer Salmaan and Sunny Wayne. It was also the director’s first movie.

Gauthami Nair caught the attention of the audience with her endearing performance as the Tamil girl Lekshmi in Fahadh Faasil’s Diamond Necklace. She also won the Filmfare Award for supporting actress for her performance in the movie.

Gauthami soon started to concentrate in her studies and in between acted in brief roles in movies like Chapters, Koothara and Campus Diary. She is currently pursuing her post graduation in psychology.

After Second Show, Srinath Rajendran directed Koothara starring Bharath, Tovino Thomas and Sunny Wayne in the lead roles. Mohanlal played an extended cameo in the movie. Gauthami also played a brief role in Koothara.

The director is now making a comeback with an upcoming movie starring Sunny Wayne in the lead. Shoot for the film has already started in Bangalore.

Georgettan’s Pooram fails to subdue The Great Father

Dileep after a gap of nearly six months, had his first release this year with Georgettan’s Pooram. The movie, directed by Dr Love fame K Biju was opened to largely negative reviews. Critics panned the movie heavily for it’s lack of novelty and following the usual Dileep movies formula.

Dileep has been in a dull form with most of his last releases failing to click in the box office. The actor was also caught up with some unwanted controversies after his name was dragged into the recent actress assault case. Though the police and the actress’ family have denied his involvement in the case, several online medias and newspapers reported about it. Hence Georgettan’s Pooram did not have any sort of hype and the promotions were also very minimal. This has backfired the chances for the movie to have a good opening. Add to that, Megastar Mammootty’s The Great Father is also running successfully in theatres across Kerala.

The Mammootty starrer has opened to phenomenal numbers in the box office. It is currently the highest opening day grosser in the State and some unconfirmed reports also suggest that the movie has crossed the 10 crore mark in three days time. Georgettan’s Pooram was expected to subdue the successful run of The Great Father but has failed miserably in doing so.

The Great Father will have a smooth uninterrupted run till next week before the Vishu releases start hitting screens. Mohanlal’s 1971 Beyond Borders, Mammootty’s Puthan Panam and Nivin Pauly’s Sakhavu are scheduled to release during this season.

After Revathi, Rohini and Suhasini, we have one more yesteryear actresses who is all set to don the director’s hat. We are talking about Vinaya Prasad, one of the leading South Indian actresses in the late 80s and 90s.

Vinaya Prasad is a set to direct a Kannada movie titled as Laxminarayanara Prapanchane Bere. The movie is written by her husband Jyothi Prakash Atre. Apparently, the veteran actress was always interested in the technical aspects of filmmaking and took it up as a challenge while turning a director.

For her debut directorial, she has roped in a good technical team for support. Her husband also has a vast experience in theatre and has also worked as a creative head for many ad agencies.

Laxminarayanara Prapanchane Bere will a comedy entertainer and it will be made on a limited budget. In a recent interview to Times Of India, she is quoted saying,

“The film will be a laugh riot, a full-on entertainer. It is a family drama that revolves around a husband and wife, Narayana played by actor Manjunath Hegde and Laxmi played by myself. The film will also see two special appearances by my husband and daughter, Prathama Prasad. There are no stunts and the movie will give the audience a social message to take home.”

The movie is all set to go on floors on April 3 and the team is planning to wrap up the shoot by April 20.

Over the past few months, especially after the release of Pulimurugan, trade experts from Mollywood have also started to analyse opening day collections, show counts and overall box office figures quite seriously. It clearly shows the commercial growth of the industry.

Mammootty’s latest release The Great Father, as expected, has set the box office on fire. The movie was registered a new record for opening day collections by raking in a whopping Rs 4,31,46,345 rupees on the opening day.

The record for highest first day grosser in Kerala was previously held by superstar Rajinikanth’s Kabali (Rs 4.20 crores) followed by Mohanlal’s Pulimurugan with 4.05 crores.

The Mohanlal starrer owns almost all the box office records in Mollywood. Here we look at some of these records.

Pulimurugan is the highest single day grosser in Kerala. On the third day of it’s release, the movie minted Rs 4.83 crores from theatres across Kerala.

Pulimurugan grossed more than 25 crores within a week of it’s release.The first weekend collection itself was a whopping Rs 13 crores. It is also the fastest Malayalam movie to reach the 50 and 100 crore marks.

The Kochi Corporation organised a function recently to felicitate the Kerala State film award winners. Vinayakan and Rajisha Vijayan, who won the best actor awards in the male and female category, were the cynosure of all eyes.

Vinayakan winning the best actor award was considered as a phenomenal achievement for it broke the conventional stereotypes associated with the State awards. The jury’s decision was unanimously appreciated and was even considered as a victory over the system and their hidden discrimination on the basis of caste and colour.

While speaking at the function, Rajisha Vijayan requested people not to judge people by the colour of their skin.

She said, “To me Vinayakan is one of the most handsome men I have ever met. Beauty is in the way of how a man carries himself and in his personality,”

Rajisha also said that she would never endorse or be a part of any advertisement for a fairness cream or hair oil. Her statement was met with huge applause from the those present in the function.

Vinayakan thanked everyone for the love and support he has been getting. He added that it’s a lot tougher to win the State award than the national award. It was earlier reported that Vinayakan is in contention for the best actor category in the National awards also. His stellar performance as Ganga in Kammattipadam won him several accolades.

Director of the movie, Rajeev Ravi could not attend the function and in his absence councilor Poornima Narayan, who is also his sister-in-law, received the memento.

The makers of Mammootty’s upcoming release Puthan Panam sprang a surprise by releasing the movie’s teaser yesterday without any sort of hype. The movie marks the union of one of the all time favorite combos of Mollywood- director Ranjith and Mammootty. Puthan Panam is all set to hit screens on April 13.

The teaser has been trending virally in social medias. It is an intriguing one that doesn’t give any clue about the movie’s genre and we can sense a mystery around Mammootty’s character Nithyananda Shenoy.

Dulquer Salmaan shared the teaser in his official Facebook page. The actor is all excited to watch the Ranjith-Mammootty yet again on screen. His post reads,

“And now here is the teaser for Ranjiettan’s #PuthanPanam ! Another awesome look ! Vappichi and Renjiettan is one of my favourite combinations of all time. Waiting for their magic all over again”

Puthan Panam has a largely positive hype surrounding it and it’s mainly due to the track record of Mammootty- Ranjith combo. Puthan Panam will be a different perspective on the director’s National award winning movie Indian Rupee. It will discuss about the current financial situation and throw light on the black money circulation in the country.

The movie stars Ineya and Sheelu Abraham as the female leads. Siddique, Sai Kumar, Renji Panicker, Harish Kanaran, Mamukoya, Aanandam fame Vishak Nair, Ganapathy, Nirmal Palazhi and many others will be seen in supporting roles.

Kollywood cinematographer Om Prakash is welding the camera while Shaan Rahman has composed the songs in the movie.

Puthan Panam is produced by 3 Color Cinemas, a new production house jointly owned by Abraham Mathew, director Ranjith and actor Arun Narayanan.
