Nobody has the right to ask me to go out of my country : Mamukkoya

Support for director Kamal is flowing in from many corners after BJP State general secretary A.N. Radhakrishnan asked him to move out of the country if he cannot accept the rules here. Support is flowing in for the veteran director from all corners. Recently, writer Unni R, director Aashiq Abu, composer Bijibal, Rima Kallingal, Alencier Ley Lopez all voiced their support for the director in the issue.

Now, veteran actor Mamukkoya has lent hiss support for Kamal. He said, “The protests against Kamal is redundant. I haven’t faced any bad experience politically. Everyone will have their own politics, but today there is no space for respect in politics. In the past, even if people had diverse ideologies, they had mutual respect for each other. But today that’s not the case. Today people fear to express their opinions, not beacuse of their faults but because of the foolishness of people who interpret it.”

“Nobody can ask me to go out of my country. India is for the public, not a an asset of any particular religion or political party. They should inform Kamal about what terrorist activity he did. Only then he can correct himself. This country’s freedom was earned by leaving behind all religious and political ideologies. We should not try to divide it. It is a very bad sign that hurts a lot. I have not faced any discrimination in the name of my religion.”

“No one can question the patriotsm of MT Vasudevan Nair. He is a personal pride of all Malayalis. He should not be allowed to stand isolated. Media should not give much importance to such negative news.”

Split in Exhibitors Federation; New association to be formed with Dileep’s support

It has been almost a month since the Exhibitors Federation called for a theatre strike over profit share issues. Their demand for 50-50 shares from the theatrical collections for new releases was not accepted by the producers and distributors associations. Even after the several rounds of discussions, there seems to be no settlement over the issue.

Now, the latest development in the issue is that the exhibitors federation have split with 21 more thetare owners releasing Vijay’s Bairavaa in their theatres. Yesterday the movie was released in 30 theatres under the exhibitors federation.

Meanwhile, the producers, distributors and theatre owners have scheduled for a meeting in the presence of actor Dileep, tomorrow in Kochi. There will be discussions about forming a new organization in the meeting.

Exhibitors Federation president Liberty Basheer has now accused actor Dileep for trying to destroy the exhibitors federation. He said, that the exhibitors federation reached an understanding with the Chief Minister over the release of Malayalam movies, but the producers were trying to release other language movies instead.

Liberty Basheer accused that the FEFKA (Film Employees Federation of Kerala), AMMA (Association of Malayalam Movie Artists), producers association and distributors associations as trying to destroy the Exhibitors Federation.

Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s Bairavaa was released in more than 150 theatres in Kerala, including 30 theatres under the exhibitors federation. The producers have relased a list with the theatres names and phone numbers. But exhibitors federation have not accepted this. While the cinema strike in the industry has not yet been solved, producers from Mollywood are planning to release their movies. According to reports, Dulquer Salmaan’s Jomonte Suvisheshangal and Mohanlal’s Munthirivallikalal Thalirkkumbol is being planned to release on 19th of this moment.

Munthirivallikalal Thalirkkumbol is produced by Sophia Paul under the banner Weekend Blockbusters. Jomonte Suvisheshangal directed by Sathyan Anthikad is produced by Sethu Mannarkkad under the banner Full Moon Cinemas.

Both the movies will be distributed to those theatres under Exhibitors Federation which are willing to screen new releases. Inspired by the big opening of Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s Bairavaa, producers and distributors are boldly coming forward to release movies without the co-operation of the Exhibitors Federation. The release dates of Prithviraj’s Ezra and Jayasurya’s Fukri will also be announced soon.

Many members of the Exhibitors Federation accepted to release Bairavaa. Following that, producers from Mollywood are announcing the release dates.

The producers association have also said that they will file a case demanding huge compensation against those theatres who did not screen Bairavaa after they initially accepted to release the movie. Collection list of Bairavaa from theatres in Kerala will be filed along with the case.

The producers association have also asked the producers in Tamil Nadu to blacklist those theatres where Bairavaa was not screened.

Prithviraj Sukumaran against theatre strike

The cinema predicament in Kerala has not yet resolved blocking new Malayalam movies from hitting the screens for over a month now. The two parties, producers association and theatre owners association, have not yet reached a consensus even after many rounds of discussions. At a time when the industry is facing such a dire situation, it was very surprising to see no comments about the issue from any big league actors. Ironically, young star Prithviraj who was criticized in the past for being outspoken and blatantly open about his opinions, is the first to come out with a statement about the theatre strike.

The actor has updated a post in his official Facebook page. He first congratulated the team of Pulimurugan for scripting history by becoming the first Malayalam movie to reach the 100 crore mark.

Prithviraj has questioned the need for a cinema strike now that has stalled the release of so many movies. Like anyone else who is working in the film industry, theatre owners also had a golden period druing the 2015-16 season. The actor also a producer has written that he can very well understand how difficult it is to reap profit for producers. So it is impossible to accept the demand for 50-50 profit share.

He also accepted that there is a difference in the profit shared for multiplexes, but a movie is being screened in 15-25 shows a day in an average multiplex. The actor also asked, how many single screen thetares in Kerala provide the same facilities like the ones available in a multiplex. If there exists such theatres, why is there no theatre panel/board where theatres will be rated and profits will be shared accordingly?

Prithviraj made it clear that he stands by the producers in this issue not because he is a producer, but as someone who feels proud with the growth of Malayalam cinema and as someone who wants to elevate the industry to further heights as part of our culture in front of the world.

There is still no word from the authorities about when the strike will end, to put a full stop to this drought season.

Sibi Malayil about Mohanlal’s performance in Kireedam and Sadayam

Legendary filmmaker Sibi Malayil has helmed some of the all time classics in Malayalam cinema with Mohanlal like Kireedam, His Highness Abdulla, Dasharatham, Sadayam, Kamaladalam and Chenkol. Recently, during a media interaction the director shared his experiences working with Mohanlal during the shoot of Sadayam and Kireedam.

Sibi Malayil said, “During the climax shoot of Kireedam, there is a scene where Sethu Madhavan is sitting near a pillar after deciding to kill the villain, Kireekadan Jose. His life is vanishing in front of him. Mohanlal said he wanted to chew . It is a situation where people become eccentric. I can only describe it as a rare moment. That is an instance where we can realize the mental change in someone.”

“Similarly there is a scene in Sadayam where Mohanlal’s character Sathyanathan decides to kill the children. We shot the scene in 3-4 nights. Before the climax I explained the scene to Mohanlal. I told him the character’s mental state is in jitters. He is an abnormal state of mind. Then on the next day when we started to shoot the scene, I could see a teary glow in his eyes. He did not need any glycerine or preparations for the scene. We can see such things only in Mohanlal’s movies.”

While Mohanlal won the Nationl award in the special jury category for his performance in Kireedam, he missed the award on a whisker for Sadhayam. Both the movies had the actor in fine form showing the magical acting prowess that only he possesses.
