Mohanlal’s Pulimurugan gets a huge release in Japan this month

Malayalam Cinema’s pride Pulimurugan is set to release in Japan this month. The movie has already made a business of over 100 crores from just a month of its release.

Reports suggest that the movie will be released in Kawaguchi on November 20 and later in Kanagawa on November 26.

Pulimurugan had a record overseas release for a Malayalam movie in many continents. In Europe alone, Pulimurugan was released in more than 100 theatres in countries like Germany, Poland, Austria, Britain, Switzerland, Italy etc.

In the Middle East also, Pulimurugan had a great reception especially in the UAE region.

Pulimurugan directed by Vysakh and written by Udhayakrishna was released last month during the Pooja holidays. Ever since the release the film has been running with packed theatres.

Tomichan Mulakupadam produced the movie under his banner Mulakupadam Films.

This action packed entertainer recently became the first Mollywood film to cross Rs 100 crore in box office.

Pulimurugan is Mohanlal’s second movie this year to cross Rs 100 crore after his Telugu movie Janatha Garage with Jr NTR.

Talks are also rife about a possible sequel to this blockbuster movie.

It seems that Mohanlal is in a mood to break every single records existing here in Mollywood and create new milestones. He is even breaking his own records here in Mollywood and now he holds almost every records here in Mollywood box office.

Mohanlal films are the record holders in every cities, single screens etc in Kerala now and with the epic success of Pulimurugan, which entered the 100 crore club, he is making it sure that there will be no more non-Mohanlal records here in Kerala box office.

Now, he had made an all-time history in Calicut city box office, as he become the only actor who have two movies which grossed over 1.5 crore from the single screens from Calicut City alone.

As per the latest collection report, Pulimurugan had grossed around 1.51 crore from the single screens of Calicut in just 36 day time. 3 years back, his movie Drishyam also grossed over 1.5 crore from single screens alone at Calicut City. Drishyam’s final single screen figure from Calicut is 1.69 crore.

From PVS Film City there, Pulimurugan had grossed over 1 crore as well till now and the total earning of Pulimurugan till now from Calicut City alone is above 2.5 crore.

Pulimurugan will create a new record as well there soon as it will surpass 2 crore from single screens alone, at Calicut City.

Mammootty will sport a mass avatar in Puthan Panam

We had earlier reported that director Ranjith’s next film will have Megastar Mammootty in the lead. The movie is titled as Puthan Panam (The New Indian Rupee). Ranjith has said that Mammootty will sport a new get up for the movie.

Mammootty will have a closely cropped haircut and also sport a twirled moustache. Twirled mustache has always been a template for mass looks. Mammootty himself has had the look in many movies like Avanazhi, Vallyettan and Roudram.

The director has not divulged more details about the name or other details about Mammootty’s character in the movie.

Ranjith has earlier made a movie titled Indian Rupee dealing with the financial constraints of a middle class youth and the various methods he tries to become successful in life. The movie was a told in a satirical manner and it went in to win the National Award for best feature film in Malayalam for the year 2011.

Puthan Panam will deal with the current financial situation present in the society. The movie will also star veteran actor Siddique, Ineya, Harish Kanaran, Nirmal Palazhi, Mamukoya, Swaraj playing supporting roles.

Pre-production works for movie are already underway and shooting will start on November 25th. The film will be produced by a new production company 3 Color Cinemas. Director Ranjith, Mumbai based businessman Abraham Mathew and actor Arun Narayanan together own the company.

Cinematography will be handled by Om Prakash who has cranked the camera for movies like Kashmora and Maari. Shabaaz Aman will be composing the music. The movie will be primarily filmed in Kochi, Kasargod and Goa.

Veteran actor Munshi Venu struggling for financial support

Munshi Venu, who became through the popular tele-strip Munshi is battling for life with not enough money for treatment.

Munshi Venu has acted in more than 75 movies in Mollywood. He is currently admitted in the palliative care unit in Muringoor, Chalakkudy. He is undergoing treatment in St James Hospital in Angamaly.

The actor was diagnosed with kidney failure six months back. He has been undergoing dialysis till then. The doctors have advised him for kidney transplantation.

He has to undergo dialysis for 12 times in a month. The cost for each dialysis and the medicines cost around 4000 rupees.

Venu originally hails from Thiruvananthapuram. He is unmarried and was staying in a lodge in Chalakkudy for the past 10 years.

The actor could not afford for both the rent and the treatment, so he moved out of the lodge. Venu is not a member of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) because he could not pay the hefty membership fees. So he has not received any financial help from the association as of now.

Philips and the Monkey Pen released in 2013 was a successful movie that was appreciated for it’s out of the box theme and presentation. The movie was directed by debutants Rojin Thomas and Shanil Muhammed.

The movie dealt about the problems faced by kids academically. Child artists Sanoop Santosh, Gourav Menon, Jayasurya, Ramya Nambeesan, Joy Mathew, Mukesh and Vijay Babu played prominent roles in the movie. The movie went on to bag many awards including the Kerala State Film Award for Best Children’s Film. Sanoop Santhosh won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Child Artist for his performance in the movie.

Now the producer of the movie Vijay Babu has announced the sequel to Philips and the Monkey Pen and interestingly the entire team of the original will be there in the second part also.

Vijay Babu said, the new movie will feature the same child actors and the same characters but with different problems. At each age group, children have different issues. The original character, Ryan Philips, was just a representative of his age group. Similarly the protagonist in this new movie will also represent the children in the age group of 12-14.

Director Vysakh has given hints about a possible second part of this action blockbuster. For the sequel to materialize, total support of the whole cast and crew of Pulimurugan is necessary. .

Vysakh has said that a second part for the movie is possible only if there is constant support and enthusiasm from the team of Pulimurugan. There has been many speculations about the second part but nothing has been finalized yet. If everything falls in place by the time then a second part for the movie will be made, said Vysakh.

Income tax raid in Baahubali producers homes

Income tax officials have raided the producers of blockbuster movie Baahubali at their homes in Hyderabad yesterday.

Baahubali was a historical fiction epic, released in July last year. The movie was a bilingual made in Tamil and Telugu. It was also dubbed in Malayalam and Hindi.

Baahubali is the country’s biggest blockbuster doing a world wide business of over 650 crores.

Baahubali 2 : The Conclusion, sequel to the movie is under shooting currently. The movie is scheduled to be released worldwide in April next year as a summer release. Distribution rights have already been sold for a record price amounting to several hundred crores.

The offices and homes of producers Shobu Yarlagadda and Prasad Devineni were raided last day. It was alleged that nearly 60 crores of the discontinued Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes were believed to have been reserved there.

The high-denomination currency was declared illegal on Tuesday for transactions in an sudden move by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It was announced to check the rampant use of black money and to stop the circulation of counterfeit notes.

Yesterday, officials raided many shops and offices in four different cities including Mumbai and Delhi. The raid was mostly targeted at the shops of jewelers and private operators who illegally exchanged Indian rupees for foreign currencies.

The government has given time limit till the end of the year to exchange the discontinued notes for new ones from nearby banks and post offices.

Sreekumaran Thampi is one of the respected and senior most directors in Mollywood. He is a multi talented personality who was a producer, screenwriter and a lyricist. He has directed a number of super hit movies with many of the prominent stars of Mollywood.

He recently attended the anniversary function of the NBTC. During the interaction with the media he said, no young filmmaker has asked him to write songs for their movies. People do not want movies with artistic values, all of them are behind Pulimurugan. NBTC chairman KG Abraham was also present during the press meet.

Sreekumaran Thampi also said that he was very disappointed with the reception his movie Ammakkoru Tharattu got. He says, before when my movies were released people would flock to theatres, but for my latest movie there was only 35 people to watch it in the first day. Even channels today review a movie based on the stars present and not the story.

He said, today only youngsters visit theatres. It is a very good decision to have separate theatres for film personalities during the film festivals. Nowadays there is no space for non-commercial movies in Malayalam.

The veteran director had earlier announced that he will not make movies with superstars again. He said that it was because the stars were not willing to give dates for directors like him. Sreekumaran Thampi is now working in television serials.

Prithviraj’s Aadu Jeevitham will start rolling by next July

Award winning ace director Blessy had earlier announced that his next movie will be with Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead.

The movie titled as Aadu Jeevitham will be based on Benyamin’s novel of the same name. Director Blessy has said that the film will be made in 3D format in three languages, Malayalam, Tamil and Hindi.

Blessy is known for his rustic portrayal of life, the hardships and the emotional aspects of various characters in his movies.

Aadu Jeevitham will be a similar movie with a different treatment. The director has said that like every filed, cinema should also update with time.

Every filmmaker or a writer wishes to see their creations standing the test of time. Life is changing nowadays and evidently cinema is also changing with time, said Blessy.

Prithviraj will play the lead character of Najeeb Mohammed. The novel deals with the life of Najeeb who is an abused migrant worker in Saudi Arabia. Aadu Jeevitham is produced by GM Film Company.

This is the first time Prithviraj is working with Blessy. Blessy is a critically acclaimed director who has made some amazing movies like Kaazhcha, Thanmathra, Bhramaram, Pranayam etc.

Prithviraj is currently shooting in Malaysia for the Hindi movie Naam Shabaana, a prequel to Akshay Kumar’s blockbuster film Baby. He will be later moving to Portugal for filming his next movie My Story directed by debutant Roshni Dinaker. He will also start shooting for magnum opus Karnan by March next year.

Ace filmmaker Shaji Kailas has been keeping a low profile for sometime now. There were reports about Shaji Kailas making a comeback with a movie starring Mohanlal in the lead.

Now according to latest developments, Shaji Kailas is planning a mass entertainer with Mohanlal similar to the all-time blockbuster Narasimham.

Shaji Kailas and Mohanlal have earlier teamed up for some evergreen blockbusters like Aaram Thampuran, Narasimham, Baba Kalyani etc. It is one of the most celebrated combos in Malayalam film industry.

Narasimham was an industry hit breaking many box office records during that time. The movie was digitalized and re released recently.

There is nothing official about the new Mohanlal-Shaji Kailas project, but some sources inform that they are planning to make a movie as a Vishu release next year.
