Pulimurugan and Thoppil Joppan owning the box office

The Mollywood box office after a long gap witnessed the clash of the Big M’s last week. Mohanlal’s most expected movie Pulimurugan and Mammootty’s family entertainer Thoppil Joppan was released on Friday as Pooja releases.

Pulimurugan was undoubtedly the biggest of the two, biggest the movie was long in the making and comes with the tag of the most expensive movie ever made in Mollywood. Thoppil Joppan on the other hand was a light hearted family entertainer.

Pulimurugan has already raked in an amount of 20 crores from five days of its release. Pulimurugan has released in 200 + screens in Kerala alone.

Now the director of Thoppil Joppan, Johnny Antony through his official page has announced that the movie has collected an amount of Rs 8.50 crores from four days of its release.

Both the movies have already been declared success in the box office. The numbers are mind boggling considering the limits and smaller reach of Mollywood industry.

Both Pulimurugan and Thoppil Joppan are expected to continue the glorious run considering the fact that there are no other big releases any time soon.

While Pulimurugan is celebrated by the mass audience especially the youths, families are thronging the theatres for Thoppil Joppan.

Jilla director Neason to remake Vedalam

Director Neason who directed Jilla with Complete Actor Mohanlal and Ilaya Thalapathi Vijay in the lead is now starting his next project.

His next movie will be the Telugu remake of Tamil super hit movie Vedalam starring Thala Ajith. The Telugu version of the movie will be made with Power Star Pawan Kalyan.

Pooja of the movie was held in Hyderabad last day . The director announced the project officially and also told that some changes have been made from the original to suit the Telugu audience and the mass image of Pawan Kalyan.

Earlier there were rumours of Neason remaking Jilla in Telugu. But there was no official word regarding that. Jilla did good business in the box office thanks to the massive fan base of Vijay and Mohanlal.

AM Ratnam who produced Vedalam in Tamil will be producing the Telugu version also under the banner Sri Sai Ram Creations.

Gopi Sundar is one of the most popular and most sought after music directors in Mollywood and without any doubt we can say that he is the one who had delivered most number of hit songs in the recent past in Mollywood cinema.

But he is also criticized by some section of people as they tells that most of his hit songs were inspired from other language songs or from music created by others.

Many times people had come up with songs from which Gopi Sundar had got inspired. The latest in the list was the theme song which he had tuned for Mohanlal starrer Vysakh movie named Pulimurugan, which is on its way to become the all-time biggest success in Malayalam cinema.

The theme song of Pulimurugan is a chartbuster hit in Kerala and last day he had released the song, after getting so much request from the audience.

But now, it had landed in plagiarism controversy as some people pointing out that Gopi Sundar had made that tune after got inspired from a devotional song that released years back in Kerala. It is said to be inspired from a devotional song dedicated to Goddess Chottanikkara Devi.

He had come under scanner, when films like Bangalore Days, Kali, 1983 etc come out as well. But people love his songs and Gopi Sundar says, that’s what matters at the end of the day.

Pulimurugan theme song is now become a trending song here in Kerala and Gopi Sundar’s songs and background scoring was sensational in this movie.

Sivakarthikeyan starrer Remo was released on Friday has been getting largely positive reviews from the Tamilnadu audience and doing great business in the box office.

According to latest reports coming in from trade circles Remo has collected Rs 21.5 crore in the domestic market and Rs 11.5 crore in the overseas market from three days of its release.

Remo had great expectations prior to the release and it is fair to say the movie has lived up to the expectations in terms of its worldwide box office collection. According to trade experts, the film’s worldwide opening weekend collection now stands at Rs 33 crore.

According to the box office reports Remo has grossed Rs 52.5 lakhs in Australia Rs 1.01 crore in the US, Rs 39 lakhs in the UK and Rs 17 lakhs in France. The film has also earned Rs 1.15 crore in Malaysia and another Rs 1.15 cr in UAE.

In Kerala, Remo was released alongside biggies like Pulimurugan and Thoppil Joppan but still the movie managed to gross an amount of Rs 43 lakhs in the box office.

The bix office numbers clearly state that Remo has become a bigger success in the box office than Suriya’s 24 and Vikram’s Irumugan.

Sivakarthikeyan’s rising popularity and fan base has helped a great deal for Remo business wise. Remo is a romantic comedy entertainer genre directed by Baakiyaraj Kannan and bankrolled by RD Raaja.

The latest in the list is that, Pulimurugan had crossed the 20 crore mark in box office in just 5 day time. It had grossed close to 13 crore from its first 3 days and from next two days, it grossed around 7 crore as well.

Pulimurugan had surpassed the record set by Mohanlal movie Oppam last month. Oppam had crossed the 20 crore mark in 11 day time and Puli Murugan just took 5 days to do it.

The posters designed by debutant Anand Rajendran is already viral on social media pages. The poster reminds us of some dark Hollywood horror movies.

Ezra is a horror thriller set in the Portuguese period in Fort Kochi. Directed by Jayakrishnan aka Jay K, the movie was already in the news after the team reported about strange incidents during the shooting.

The team was shooting in a house in Fort Kochi when they experienced spooky incidents. Finally, they had to bring a priest to bless the shooting location in Fort Kochi.

Due to these incidents, the horror movie grabbed the attention of viewers during the filming stages itself. But a section of the audience claim that all these are gimmicks done by the makers to promote the movie like how Hollywood films are doing. Movies like Conjuring 2 were in the news for reporting mysterious incidents happening in the shooting locations.

South Indian actress Priya Anand is making her debut in Malayalam Cinema industry through Ezra. Young sensation Tovino Thomas who is currently on a high after receiving appreciation for his role in Guppy is acting as a Police officer in Ezra.

State award winning actor Sudev Nair who earlier teamed up with Prithviraj in Anarkali is also playing an important role in this movie.
