Malayalam cinema had suffered yet another great loss today, as popular cinematographer Anandakuttan had passed away today. He was 62 years old and was under the treatment for cancer for some time. His death was occur at a private hospital in Kochi today.
He had been one of the most popular and skilled cameraman in Mollywood and worked in many classic films in his career. Manivathoorile Aayiram Shiva Rathrikal, Sadayam, No. 20 Madras Mail, His highness Abdulla, Atharvam, Aakshadoothu etc were the most popular films in which he worked.
He had done the cinematography of over 200 films in a career that spanned over 40 years. He was born in the year 1954 as the son of Ramakrishnan Nair and Karthyayani Amma, who were both school teachers. He had two sisters as well. He had completed his schools in Changanassery NSS school and after completing Pre-Degree, he had went to Madras for studying cinematography. He was settled in Ernakulam later. His wife’s name is Geetha and had 3 children named Sreekumar, Neelima and Karthika.
He was popularly known as the cameraman of big films in Mollywood and he had brought in an Ananda Kuttan style of cinematography as well.
Another Vishu release of this year had confirmed and it is from Kunchacko Boban-Shamili team. The film named Valleem Thetti Pulleem Thetti written and directed by debutant Rishi Shiva Kumar will come to the screens all over Kerala on this coming April month as one of the Vishu release of Mollywood. The film is produced by Faisal Latheef under the banner of his Achappu Films and the DOP of the film is Kunjunni S Kumar, who is the son of popular cameraman S Kumar.
Shamili who had acted in Mollywood films as a child artist long years back ha coming again to Malayalam cinema as a heroine of Kunchacko Boban in this film. She was popular as the sister of famous actress Shalini, who is now the wife of Tamil superstar Ajith Kumar. Shamili had acted in films like Malootty, Pookkalam Varavayi, Harikrishnans etc in Mollywood and acted with Mohanlal, Mammootty and Jayaram as well. She got national award for best child artist as well for her performance in the Tamil film named Anjali.
Kunchacko Boban had acted many films with her sister Shalini and in fact he had made his debut with her in Fazil’s Aniyathi Pravu. Shalini had also acted in many Malayalam films in the 1980’s as child artist. The film Valleem Thetti Pulleem Thetti will be a romantic and comedy flavor film and the music of this film is done by Soorej S Kuruppu.
The first look poster of the film is out and getting good response. It will be Kunchacko Boban’s second release this year. His first release will be Rajesh Pillai directorial film Vettah which has Indrajith and Manju Warrier as well playing the key roles. As per reports that film will come by this month end.
Now, a new picture of young actor Dulquer Salmaan is going viral in social media platforms and in that picture Dulquer seems too thin and looks like he was bedridden for few weeks. There were reports that he was down due to high fever as well. But now the latest news doing its round in social media that this look of Dulquer Salmaan is for his upcoming film which is now on floors directing by popular film maker Rajeev Ravi. As per reports he had reduced almost 15 kilos for the character he plays for the film.
The film is titled as Kammatti Paadam and there were reports that it tells a story related with some underworld connections of Kochi. Kammatti Paadam is a place behind the KSRTC bus stand at Ernakulam and rumors are spreading that Dulquer Salmaan is playing a smuggler in the film as well. Even though that does not get any confirmation yet. But a report that came from genuine sources says that the film tells the story through different periods and Dulquar is sporting different looks for the film as well.
Earlier we saw a look of him with a bold moustache as some of the stills came out from the sets of the film. Soubin Shahir and Vinayakan is playing key roles in this flick which is written by actor/director P Balachandran and produced by United Global Media which had produced Lord Livingstone 7000 Kandi and distributed other language magnum opuses like Ai and Bahubali in Kerala. Rajeev Ravi had earlier directed critically appreciated films like Annayum Rasoolum with Fahad Fazil and Andrea and the Njan Steve Lopez with Fahad’s brother Farhan Fazil and Ahaana Krishna Kumar.
Anyway, Dulquer Salmaan Fans had already begun to promote their hero’s dedication level showing this image of Dulquer all around social media. If it’s true, then hats off to Dulquer for doing such a thing for a movie. Last we saw Chiyan Vikram’s experiment with his body weight for ‘I’ and before that Jayasurya for Appothikkiri.
Drishyam still continues with its impact and it is still making some space for it in the news even after it has been almost 2 years since its release and unbelievable success. This Mollywood film starred by superstar Mohanlal and directed and written by master film mMaker Jeethu Joseph had really made great impact in Indian cinema as a whole.
The film had become the first Malayalam film to enter in to the 40, 50 and 60 crore club of Mollywood and also it is the film which had a done a total business around 75 crores in Mollywood. It is still at the top without being threatened. The film had remade in four other Indian languages as well and become a success there as well. But now, it is going international level with a SriLankan language remake of the film.
As per reports the film being remade in Sinhalese language by Cheyyar Ravi and popular SriLankan actor Jackson Anthony playing the male lead of the remake. Cheyyar Ravi is popular for his highly appreciated Tamil movie named Harichandra and Jackson Anthony is popular for his films like Kusa Pabha in SriLanka. As per reports, the filming is already started and it is going on in a swift pace in places in and around lanka.
The film has been noted for its screenplay and direction by Jeethu Joseph and the mesmerizing performance by Mohanlal. Later it remade to Kannada, Telugu, Tamil and Hindi languages. In Tamil Kamal Haasan played the lead role and in Hindi Ajay Devgun played the lead. In Telugu Venkitesh had played the male lead. Jeethu Joseph himself directed the Tamil version as well.
In all languages the film becomes a success and for Mollywood Drishyam had become a classic. It had opened up rest of India and great overseas market as well for Malayalam cinema and attracted the eyes of all film industries to Mollywood. If we are not wrong, it may be the first Malayalam film as well which gets an international remake and Drishyam had done it in style.
Mammootty- Nayanthara starrer film directed by AK Sajan named Puthiya Niyamam had released last day all over India and the film had opened to mixed reports from all over. It has been hailing as one of the decent family thrillers we saw in recent times in Malayalam.
The film had released above 90 screens in Kerala and as per the official collection report, the film had grossed around 1.2 crore rupees from its first day from Kerala. The distributors Abbam movies told Onlookers Media that they had got 46 Lakhs (without adding multiplex share) as their first day share. Rest of India collection still not available.
Even though it has not made big in its first day collection, there is a chance that it might pick up in the coming days because of the encouraging word mouth getting from social media circles. The film is of a thriller type and not have much colorful elements in it. But if family audience supports the film, then it can show the real might at box office for sure.
Mammootty and Nayan Thara getting good applause for their performance in the film and Nayanthara had steal the show with more screen space than Mammootty. Mammootty had made a terrific last 15 minutes come back as well. Anyway let’s hope that the good word of mouth will materialize in to good box office collection as well.
Charlie is the last year Christmas release film in Mollywood which had Dulquer Salmaan and Parvathy Menon played the lead roles. The film is directed by Martin Prakkat and written by Unni R along with the director. Martin Prakkat was also a partner in production of the film as well along with actor Joju George and Shebin Bucker. They had produced the film under the banner of Finding Cinemas and it was their first project indeed as producers. The film had earned mixed reviews from the common mass and good rating from critics and ended up as a box office success as well. Now, a report is coming that the film is all set to speak Tamil soon.
Charlie will be remade to Tamil and the Tamil remake rights of the film had bought by popular Tamil production house named Pramod Films. They told that they had already decided the star cast and crew members of the remake and will reveal to all without much delay. Now a days Malayalam films getting great market outside as well and also getting good remake rights. Mohanlal film Drishyam had remade to 4 languages within 2 years of its release including Tamil, Hindi, Telugu and Kannada.
Nivin Pauly’s Premam is now making in Telugu and his Oru Vadakkan Selfie also said to be remaking to Tamil. Mollywood success Bangalore days had already remade and released in Tamil with the title Bangalore Natkal few days back but getting negative reports.
Charlie which had notable performances from Dulquar Salman, Parvathy Menon, Nedumudi Venu etc also is the last film of Late Actress Kalpana. She had done the character named Mary in film. Let’s hope that the Tamil remake and the star cast will do justice to the original version as there was a complaint or dissatisfaction about the star cast chose for Bangalore Natkal in Tamil.

Fahad Fazil indeed made a great come back and when he made it was in terrific style as well. His latest film named Maheshinte Prathikaram which was conceived by Dileesh Pothen and produced by Aashiq Abu had got excellent mouth publicity and in box office also the film is rocking. Even though the film had started off in an average note on its first day at box office, now it had gained the power. As per the latest report, the film had earned around 4.5 crore from 7 days of its theatrical run from Kerala.
The film had released in 68 screens all over Kerala. But after the first week it had increased its run to 88 theaters and that itself is underlining the impact the film is having here in Kerala. The flick had given us some newcomers and their performance is the real highlight of the film along with the sterling performance of Fahad Fazil.
Artists like Aparna Balamurali, Soubin Shahir, Alencier Lay, Anusree etc had made an impact through their brilliant performance and the great technical aspects also made the film graceful. We can say that by far this film is the best one released this year and in box office too Maheshinte Prathikaram is making great impact.

After so much years, a Malayalm film is dubbed to Hindi and releasing the hindi version and it happened to be Urumi. As per reports the film is all set for a 100+ screens released in North India and the title of the hindi dubbed version will be shoorveer.
The film will release over 100+ screens in North Indian on 19th February and it is indeed a great achievement for Malayalam Cinema. The film tells the story related to the arrival of Portugal Merchants to Indian shore and the incidents that took place after they got their foot on this land. It had to deal with the freedom struggle as well that had happened years back even before the British had come here for business and later made us their slaves.
The Hindi dubbed version of the film will be financed by Muvoz creations in association with Glamour Stills. Prithviraj, Vidya Balan, Prabhu Deva etc are popular in north as well and it will help to attract people to this flick.
