Sand City Review

0

Sand city is the new film that got released on January 2 Friday, 2015. The film was directed by none other than Actor Shanker, whose first film as a director was ‘Keralolsavam’, which was not received well at box office. Vinu Mohan was the hero in Keralolsavam. When comes to ‘Sand City’ from Keralolsavam, Shanker had improved a lot as a director and we can see it in the story telling in this film.

New comers Prajin, Varuna Shetty and Thanushka  does the lead roles in this film and Thanushka was very good indeed. The film tells the story of non -resident Indians in the United Arab Emirates. We already saw some touching stories about their life in films like Arabikadha directed by Lal Jose and Gaddama helmed by Kamal. Sand city is focusing on the life and friendship of those people living abroad. It’s the story of two characters Anand and Mansoor, their life, love and the problems which arises in their life with the romance of Mansoor. James and  Swamy  are the names of other characters who shares the room with Mansoor and Anand.

The story moves forward in a good pace with very beautiful visuals and the script is such that it makes us move along with the film. Song sequences are also good and the artist’s performance was satisfying. Even though they gave us a feel of acting here and there, they did their best to make it look good. But the background scoring was not up to the mark as it became an obstacle at many places for the audience to watch the film smoothly. The flow of the film is somehow disturbed by the unimaginative background scoring at times.

Prajin does the character named Mansoor and Thanushka played the character named Poornnima. Both have done a good job considering their inexperience. But if the film had a good star cast with some popular stars in the mix, it would have got more theaters and more attention from the common audience. The film totally was not a big thing to be cherished. But it was a courageous attempt by Shanker to tell a different story. We saw many talented and experienced film makers delivering utter craps with great artists last year. When we consider that, Sand city is a one -time watchable small film for film lovers.

Director : Shanker
Release Date : 2/1/2015
Cast : Prajin,Varuna Shetty, Thanushka

Pongal is on January 14th and the film ‘Yennai Arindhaal’ was said to be prepared to release with Shankar- Vikram  team’s Gigantic film ‘I’.

The news of postponement of the release date of the film is confirmed by a trusted source in the film camp and it will be a big disappointment for Thala Ajith fans who were eagerly waiting for the release of the film right from the day its first look made waves in cyber world. The teaser of the film had already broken many records in You Tube and other online medias and the trailer that released few hours back has also generating great response in the social medias.

It will be a much hopeful film for Ajith as his last 3 films Billa 2, Aarambham and Veeram was not raised up to the expectation. But still they done Good business at Box-office owing to the star value and fan base of Ajith. But people really want another magic from him like he did give them one as ‘Mankatha’ some years back. Gautham Menon was also on comeback trail after his last few films did not received well at Box office. And also his  fall out with Surya not gave him anything good to remember. So Gautham Menon pinning his hopes on this project and will be hoping that this will do wonders at box-office and will give him the much needed boost.

So this pongal will have two Tamil releases in the form of Vikram’s ‘I’ and Sundar C film ‘Ambala’, which will be the underdog for sure in this season. It also means that there will be lot of Theaters available for Malayalam films which were waiting for sometimes due to the unavailability of theaters. If ‘I’” and ‘Yennai Arindhaal’ will come together on Pongal, it will take away a great number of theaters and other small Malayalam films will be in a jeopardy. Let’s wait for the final report.

Dulquer Salmaan-Amal Neerad joining hands to rock 2015

0

2015 will be a Rocking Year for Young Actor Dulquer Salmaan as he announced his projects this year to a leading newspaper. When asked about his projects and Hopes in 2015, Dulquer revealed that He is all set do Films with Martin Prakkat, Rajeev ravi and Amal Neerad this year and some films with Newcomers also. But the Amal Neerad Project will be the much awaited one as it will be union of the style icon Dulquer Salmaan and the best stylish film maker Mollywood ever had, Amal Neerad.

Dulquer Salmaan had a mixed year of 2014 with 3 flops and 2 hits. He began 2014 with two back to back flops. They are ‘Salala Mobiles’ directed by Sharath A. Haridaasan, and ‘Samsaram Aarogyathinu Haanikaram’ directed by Balaji Mohan, which was a bilingual film. But he recovered from that debacle with the huge success of Anjali Menon’s ‘Bangalore Days’, which was the biggest success in Mollywood from the the films that got released in 2014. The film is a multi- starrer one which has Fahadh Faasil and Nivin Pauly along with Dulquer Salman. His next success in 2014 was ‘Vikramadithyan’, which was helmed by none other than the master director Lal Jose. It was also a Multi starrer which has Unni Mukundan shared screen space with Dulquer and that film also has Nivin Pauly in a Cameo.

His last release in 2014 was ‘Njan’ Directed by Renjith which was based on a work by T P Rajeevan. ‘Njan’ even though failed at the box-office, got good critical appreciation and can be said one of the best in Dulquer’s career. He was really fortunate to have done such bold and intense role in the early stages of his career. The thing here to be noticed that even though Dulquer had two hits in 2014, it cannot be termed as Dulquer Salmaan hits as both of the hit film was multi-starrers. So he will be hoping to Get a Solo hit this year to stand on his own in the industry and he will be hoping that the coming Amal Neerad film will do the trick for him. It will be a much awaited project for both Dulquer and Amal Neerad fans.

Amal Neerad got great appreciation for his last film ‘Iyyobinte Pusthakam’, even though it did not done too well at Box office. Dulquer currently working in two films, which Mani Ratnam directorial ‘OK kanmani’ and Debutant Jenuse’s ‘100days of love’.
