Mammootty tests positive for Covid-19

At a time when the pandemic third wave is peaking in the country, veteran Malayalam actor Mammootty has tested positive for Covid-19. The veteran himself shared about his health condition. Through a brief note, he informed that he has a light fever but otherwise is feeling fine. He is currently at home isolation as per the directions of the concerned authorities. Mammootty also urged everyone to stay safe and take utmost care. His post reads,

Despite taking all the necessary precautions I have tested Covid Positive yesterday. Besides a light fever I am otherwise fine. I am self isolating at home as per the directions of the concerned authorities. I wish for all of you to stay safe. Mask at all times and take the utmost care.

With Mammootty turning Covid-19 positive, shoot for his ongoing film ‘CBI 5’ has been stopped midway. The film directed by K Madhu also stars Mukesh, Anoop Menon, Asha Sarath, Sai Kumar and many others.

Mammootty, meanwhile, has ‘Puzhu’ and ‘Bheeshma Parvam’ lined up for release. If reports are to be believed, ‘Puzhu’ will be getting a direct OTT release on Sony Liv.

Meppadiyan continues to garner good response

Unni Mukundan starrer ‘Meppadiyan’ continues to do well in theatres. Ever since the film released on January 14, it has been getting largely positive response. Bookings in theatres have steadily been on the rise and the extensive promotion works headlined by Unni have certainly gained fruits.

‘Meppadiyan’ is directed by debutant Vishnu Mohan. Unni Mukundan plays a village-based youth named Jayakrishnan. It is a character very unlike the stylish, urban roles that he is known for. The actor’s refreshing performance in a role that’s outside his comfort zone has been praised by many.

‘Meppadiyaan’ has an elaborate supporting cast. Anju Kurian of ‘Jack and Daniel’ fame is the female lead Saiju Kurup, Kottayam Ramesh, Major Ravi, Aju Varghese, Vijay Babu, Kalabhavan Shajohn, Nisha Sarang, Indrans, Kundara Johny, Sreejith Ravi and Pauly Valsan also star in it.

Shoot for Suresh Gopi’s Paappan wrapped up

Shoot for Suresh Gopi’s upcoming film ‘Paappan’ has been wrapped up successfully. The film directed by Joshiy has a lot of expectations. The two are teaming up after a long gap and it also has a big cast featuring actors like Gokul Suresh, Kaniha, Sunny Wayne, Nyla Usha and Neeta Pillai.

‘Paappan’ has Suresh Gopi playing a cop named Abraham Mathew Mathan. Though he has done a lot of police characters before, this is said to be a role with multiple shades. He will be appearing in two different looks in the film, which includes a salt-and-pepper bearded getup.

‘Paappan’ scripted by RJ Shaan is a family-based mass entertainer with mystery and suspense elements in it. The film is being produced by David Kachappilly Productions and Cubes International Group. It will be presented by Agosh Cinemas and Chand V Movies.

Karthi is reuniting with ‘Komban’ director M Muthaiya for a new film titled ‘Viruman’. Its first look poster got released today on the occasion of Pongal. Just like the actor-director duo’s previous collaboration, ‘Viruman’ is also expected to be a village-based mass entertainer.

Ace director Shankar’s daughter Aditi Shankar is making her acting debut with this film. She is paired with Karthi. Others in the cast include Rajkiran, Soori Prakash Raj, RK Suresh, Vadivukarasi, and Manoj Bharathiraja. Yuvan Shankar Raja is composing music for the film, which is produced by actor Suriya’s production house, 2D Entertainment.

Karthi also has a couple of other projects lined up. He is teaming up with ‘Irumbuthirai’ director PS Mithran for a new film titled ‘Sardhar’. The actor plays a dual role in it. Karthi is also part of the Mani Ratnam directorial ‘Ponniyin Selvan’, in which he shares screen space with the likes of Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Rai, Trisha and several others.

We had earlier reported about Shane Nigam and veteran Revathi playing the leads in a new film titled ‘Bhoothakaalam’. Rahul Sadasivan is directing the film. Teresa Rani and Shane Nigam’s mother Sunila Habeeb are producing it under the banners of Plan T Films and Shane Nigam Films. Shane is also making his debut as a music director and lyricist with this film.

Last day, the makers released the first single from the film. Titled ‘Raa Theerame’, it is a lovely melody written, sung and composed by Shane Nigam. Shane and the female lead, Athira Patel feature in the song.

‘Bhoothakaalam’ also stars Saiju Kurup, James Eliya, Abhiram Radhakrishnan, Manju Pathrose, Riyaz Narmakala and Valsala Menon. The film has its story by director Rahul. He has written the screenplay along with Sreekumar Shreyas. Gopi Sunder handles the background score. Cinematography is by Shehnad Jalal and Shafique Mohamed Ali does the edits.

‘Bhoothakaalam’ will be released in theatres by A & A Release, the distribution company owned by directors Anwar Rasheed and Amal Neerad.

Dhanush’s Maaran set for direct OTT release

Dhanush’s upcoming film ‘Maaran’ with director Karthick Naren will be releasing directly on Disney + Hotstar. This will be Dhanush’s third consecutive film to get a direct OTT release after ‘Jagame Thandhiram’ and ‘Atrangi Re’. Today, on Pongal day, the makers of ‘Maaran’, will be releasing a motion poster online.

Karthick Naren has scripted the film with additional screenplay and dialogues by Malayali scenarists Suhas-Sharafu of ‘Varathan’ fame and lyricist Vivek. Malavika Mohanan is the female lead. Reportedly, Dhanush and Malavika play investigative journalists in the film.

Samuthirakani, ‘Thadam’ fame Smruthi Venkat, ‘Soorarai Pottru’ fame Krishna Kumar, and Mahendran are also part of the supporting cast. GV Prakash Kumar is composing the music and cinematography is by Vivekanand Santhosham.

The film is produced jointly by Sendhil Thyagarajan and Arjun Thyagarajan under the banner of Sathya Jyothi Films.

As informed earlier, the makers of ‘Bro Daddy’ have released the first song video. Titled ‘Parayathe Vannen’, it is a melodious song rendered by MG Sreekumar and Vineeth Sreenivasan. Deepak Dev is the composer and lyrics is written by Lakshmi Shrikumar.

‘Bro Daddy’ directed by Prithviraj promises to be a fun-filled family entertainer. Mohanlal plays the lead role of a rich businessman named John Kattadi in the film. Meena plays his wife’s role and Prithviraj essays the part of their son, Eesho John Kattadi. Kalyani Priyadarshan is paired with Prithviraj. The song visuals is centered around these two couples.

‘Bro Daddy’ is scripted by Sreejith N and Bibin Maliekal. Unni Mukundan, Kaniha, Soubin Shahir, Jagadeesh, Mallika Sukumaran, Charlie and Lalu Alex also star in it. Antony Perumbavoor is producing the film under the banner of Aashiravd Cinemas.

‘Bro Daddy’ is scheduled to premiere on Disney + Hotstar on January 26.

Sivakarthikeyan pens a song for Suriya’s Etharkum Thunindhavan

The makers of Suriya starrer ‘Etharkkum Thunindhavan’ have announced that the second single from the film will be out on Sunday, January 16. Interestingly, the song is written by actor Sivakarthikeyan. Going by the song teaser, it looks like a fun, jolly dance number. D Imman has composed the track and it is sung by Armaan Malik and Nikhita Gandhi.

Earlier, the makers had released the first single, ‘Vaad Thambi’, which also had an interesting choice of singers — Anirudh Ravichander and GV Prakash sung the track.

‘Etharkkum Thunindhavan’ directed by Pandiraj, ‘ promises to be a rural action-packed entertainer. Reportedly, the film is inspired from the Pollachi sexual assault case. Priyanka Arul Mohan, who was last seen in ‘Doctor’, is the female lead. Vinay plays the antagonist’s role. Sathyaraj, Rajkiran, Saranya Ponvannan, Jayaprakash, Ilavarasan, Devadarshini, Subbu Panchu Arunachalam and Saran will be seen in supporting roles.

Though the makers had announced February 4 as the release date, the current pandemic situation might force a change in plans.

Kaithi Hindi remake starring Ajay Devgn titled Bholaa

Last year, it was announced that Ajay Devgn will be starring in the Hindi remake of superhit Tamil film ‘Kaithi’. The project has now been kick-started. Titled ‘Bholaa’, the remake will be directed by Dharmendra Sharma.

‘Kaithi’ directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj had Karthi as the lead. The film was a huge success, both among the critics as well as the commoners. It was praised by many for being a pure action film sans any unnecessary hindrances like songs, romance or a separate comedy track. The makers have already announced that a sequel is on the cards.

It is the learnt that the remake version, ‘Bholaa’, has been tweaked to make it appealing to the Hindi audience. Dream Warrior Pictures, the original producers, are teaming up with Reliance Entertainment and Ajay Devgn’s banner to produce ‘Bholaa’. More details regarding the cast and crew members are awaited.

Driving Licence Hindi remake starring Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi titled Selfiee

We had earlier reported about the hit Malayalam film ‘Driving Licence’ getting remade in Hindi. Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi will be playing the leads in the film, which has been titled as ‘Selfiee’. The announcement was made by releasing a short promo teaser featuring the two actors.

‘Driving Licence’, directed by Lal Jr, starred Prithviraj and Suraj Venjaramoodu in the main roles. Scripted by the late Sachy, the film revolves around a film star and his once-ardent fan, who is also a driving inspector.

In the remake, Akshay Kumar is playing the superstar’s role and Emraan Hashmi will be playing the cop’s part essayed by Suraj in the original. Raj Mehta, who has previously worked with Akshay in ‘Good Newwz’, is directing it.

Prithviraj, who had also produced the original, is making his debut as a producer in Hindi with the remake version, ‘Selfiee’ . He is co-producing the film along with Karan Johar’s Dharma Produtions, Akshay Kumar’s Cape of Good Films and Listin Stephen’s Magic Frames.
