Jayasurya and Manju Warrier set to act together for the first time

We had recently reported about Manju Warrier signing a new project with director Prajesh Sen. It is now learnt that Jayasurya is also part of the film. This will be the first time Jayasurya and Manju Warrier will be sharing screen space. Nothing much is known regarding the film, including its genre or plot details. B Rakesh of Universal Cinema is producing the film, which is set to go on floors early next year. Thiruvananthapuram has been finalized as the main location.

Interestingly, Prajesh Sen’s previous two films also had Jaysurya in the lead. His directorial debut ‘Captain’, which was a biopic on late Indian footballer VP Sathyan, was critically acclaimed and won Jayasurya the State Award for Best Actor. His second film ‘Vellam’ has Jayasurya playing a drunkard’s role. It was scheduled for release earlier this year but has been delayed due to the pandemic.

Jayasurya is currently shooting for his 100th film ‘Sunny’. Ranjith Sankar is directing the film, which has an experimental nature with only Jayasurya’s character appearing throughout. Manju Warrier meanwhile is shooting for her brother Madhu Warrier’s directorial debut ‘Lalitham Sundharam’. She along with Biju Menon play the lead roles in the film, which is touted to be a feel-good entertainer.

Valatty wrapped up; Vijay Babu calls it history in the making!

We had earlier reported about Friday Film House producing a dog film titled ‘Valatty’. The film directed by debutant Devan is an experimental film featuring real dogs. After almost three months of shoot, the makers called it a wrap last day. Producer Vijay Babu rated it as the most challenging project of his career. According to him, it is history in the making as the film has 9 dogs playing central characters.

As claimed per the makers, ‘Valatty’ will be the first Indian film with real dogs playing the lead characters without the help of VFX. A Golden Retriever, a Rottwieler, a Cocker Spaniel and an Indian country dog will be seen as the main characters named as Tomy, Amalu, Bruno and Karidas. The dogs were being trained for the last one year for this film.

Along with the dogs, some known actors are also be part of the film. Vishnu Panicker has handled camera and edits are being done by Ayoob Khan. Debutant Varun Sunil is the music director. It remains to be seen if the makers wait for a theatrical release for a film as unique as this.

Asif Ali starrer Kunjeldho gets a U certificate

We had earlier reported about Asif Ali starring in the directorial debut of RJ Mathukutty. The film titled as ‘Kunjeldho’ was supposed to hit screens earlier this year but was forced to be under the wraps due to the pandemic. The makers recently sent the film for censors and acquired a clean U certificate. It is expected to hit the big screens once theatres resume functioning normally.

‘Kunjeldho’ is a campus based flick that has Asif Ali playing a 19-year-old. Debutante Gopika Udhayan is paired with him. The cast includes Siddique, Rekha, Margret Antony, Arjun Gopal, Krithika Pradeep, Sudheesh and many others. From the promos released so far, the film promises to be a full-on youthful entertainer. Swaroop Philip has cranked the camera and music is handled by Shaan Rahman. Ranjan Abraham is editing the film.

‘Kunjeldho’ is being produced jointly by Suvin K Varkey and Prashobh Krishna of Little Big Films. Vineeth Sreenivasan is also part of the team as the creative director.

Mufti remake starring Simbu and Gautham Karthik titled as Pathu Thala

Simbu and Gautham Karthik are starring in the Tamil remake of blockbuster Kannada film ‘Mufti’. The remake version has been titled as ‘Pathu Thala’. It is directed by Obeli N Krishna of ‘Sillunu Oru Kaadhal’ and ‘Nedunchalai’ fame. KR Gnanavel Raja of Studio Green is producing the film.

‘Mufti’ is a neo-noir action-thriller starring Shiva Rajkumar and Sriimurali as the leads. The Tamil remake first went on floors last year. Narthan, the director of the orginal, was supposed to helm the Tamil version as well. However, it got shelved at the initial stages after a tussle between the director and producer. Simbu was also irregular in attending shoots. The team had then shot for around 10 days.

Director Krishna has now adapted the screenplay of ‘Pathu Thala’ in a different style. They might be retaining a few scenes from the earlier shot version. They are currently finalizing the rest of the cast and crew members.

Director Selvaraghavan had recently announced that his next film will be with his brother Dhanush. Kalippuli S Thanu of V Creations is producing the film, which will have cinematography by Arvind Krishna and music by Yuvan Shankar Raja. The same combo had earlier teamed up for films like ‘Thulluvadho Ilamai’, ‘Kadhal Kodein’ and ‘Pudhupettai’.

Dhanush has often credited Selvaraghavan for his success in cinema and making him what he is today. At the initial stages of his career, it was through his brother’s films that Dhanush got the recognition of a talented performer. As they join hands for a new film, Dhanush is hopeful that he can impress his brother atleast this time. Last day, he tweeted,

Selvaraghavan + yuvan + aravind krishna.. well well … right where I started. Very happy to join my maker , my creator and the only reason I’m here today my brother @selvaraghavan again.

Dhanush meanwhile has a seriously impressive line up of projects. He is currently shooting for the Hindi film ‘Atrangi Re’ that also stars Akshay Kumar and Sara Ali Khan. The star also has two films gearing up for release — ‘Jagame Thandhiram’ directed by Karthik Subbaraj and Mari Selvaraj’s ‘Karnan’. He has also committed for projects with Karthick Naren, ‘Ratchasan’ fame Ram Kumar and ‘Irumbuthirai’ director Mithran Jawahar.

Dhanush had also recently landed the biggest project of his career by bagging a role in the Netflix film, ‘The Gray Man’. He will be sharing screen space with Hollywood stars Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans in this film directed by ‘Avengers’ fame Russo Brothers.

‘Thalaivi’, the biopic of late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, is currently in the post-production phase. Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut plays the Jayalalithaa’s role in the film and AL Vijay is directing it. Arvind Swamy is also essaying a major role as MGR. Today, on the death anniversary of MGR, the makers have released some new stills. Sharing the photos in his social media handle, Arvind Swamy wrote,

Sufiyum Sujathayum director Naranipuzha Shanavas passes away!

Malayalam filmmaker Naranipuzha Shanavas has passed away. He has directed two films — ‘Kari’ and the Jayasurya-Aditi Rao starrer ‘Sufiyum Sujathayum’. Shanavas working on his new film at Attapadi in Kerala when he suffered a a cardiogenic shock, a severe condition which usually occurs after a strong heart attack. He was rushed to KG Hospital in Coimbatore where he was on ventilator support. On Wednesday morning, doctors declared him brain dead.

By evening, his family and crew decided to shift him to Aster Medicity in Kochi for a second opinion. They left Coimbatore around 5.30 PM. Police officials, who provided a green corridor, appealed to the public on the Coimbatore-Kochi route to co-operate, because the family wanted to transport him in double quick time. He was transported in a ventilator supported ambulance. However, all the efforts went in vain as the 40-year-old breathed his last by night around 10 PM.

Shanavas started his career in cinema as an editor. Later, he turned to direction through short films. His directorial debut ‘Karie’ was noted for showcasing the deep-rooted caste system in Kerala. The film explored the intricacies and power equations in the grim caste system in the form of the dialects and subtle language nuances influenced by caste. The film found critical appreciation.

‘Sufiyum Sujathayum’ was Shanavas’ first mainstream attempt. It is a romantic film centered around the relationship between a mute Hindu girl and a Sufi artist. The film’s release made a lot of noise as it became the first Malayalam film to get a direct OTT release.

Director Selvaraghavan had already announced that his next film will have his brother Dhanush in the lead. Kalippuli S Thanu of V Creations is producing the film. It has just been announced that Yuvan Shankar Raja will be composing music for this film. The director made the announcement by sharing a recent photo taken with Yuvan in his social media handle. Rajnikanth’s Annaatthe halted after 8 crew members test positive for Covid-19

It has been only few days since superstar Rajinikanth resumed shooting for his upcoming film ‘Annaatthe’ in Hyderabad. However, the makers have now been forced to halt shoot as 8 members from the crew have tested positive. With the situation not ideal, Rajinikanth is set to return to Chennai soon.

Due to the Covid-19 situation, the makers of ‘Annatthe’ had stalled shoot for the last eight months. They recently decided to proceed with shoot by following all the safety protocols. Nayanthara, Rajinikanth and his daughter Aishwarya landed in Hyderabad through special chartered flights.

‘Annatthe’ directed by is said to be a rural-based mass entertainer. It is expected to be on the lines of his previous film ‘Viswasam’ with prominence to family emotions. Unconfirmed reports suggest that it is the story of an endearing brother-sister relationship.

Rajinikanth and Keerthy Suresh are said to be playing sibling roles in the film while Nayanthara will be seen as the superstar’s pair. Meena, Khushbu and Nayanthara. Bala, Prakash Raj, Vela Ramamoorthy, Soori and many others are part of the supporting cast. Sun Pictures is producing the film.
