Streaming rights of Sivakarthikeyan’s Doctor bagged by Netflix

Sivakarthikeyan’s ‘Doctor’ was supposed to release earlier this year but had to be postponed due the virus outbreak. The film is written and directed by Nelson Dilipkumar of ‘Kolamaavu Kokila’ fame. Thanks to the success of the first two singles — ‘Chellamma’ and ‘Nenjame’, the film grabbed managed to attention among the masses. Steaming giant Netflix has now bagged the film’s rights. However, the film be out on the OTT platform only after the regular theatrical release.

Nelson Dilipkumar’s debut film ‘Kolamavu Kokila’ starring Nayanthara as the lead was a successful one. The director will be hopeful of continuing the same form next rime1. Vinay and Yogi Babu will be seen playing crucial roles in the films. Vijay Karthik Kannan of ‘Aadai’ fame is the cinematographer and R Nirmal is the editor.

Lead actor Sivakarthikeyan himself is producing the film under his own banner SK Productions. KJR Studios will be presenting it.

As reported recently, Suriya and Gautham Menon are teaming up for a new film which is a segment as part of the upcoming Netflix anthology ‘Navarasa’. Buzz is that Malayali actress Prayaga Martin plays the female lead in it. Though the makers are yet to announce it officially, the news is already trending in social medias. Prayaga, a familiar face to the Malayali audience, has so far acted in only Tamil film. It will be interesting to see what kind role she plays in the upcoming Gautham Menon film. Apart from the fact that it has a new narrative style and a long-haired Suriya as the main lead, nothing else is known regarding the film and its storyline.

‘Navarasa’ which is being made for the welare of the Tamil industry workers also has films by directors Karthik Subbaraj, Karthick Naren, KV Anand, Ponram, Rathindran Prasad, Arvind Swami, Bejoy Nambiar and Halitha Shameem. The cast includes popular names like Arvind Swami, Vijay Sethupathi, Revathy, Prakash Raj, Nithya Menen, Ashok Selvan, Aishwarya Rajesh, Poorna, Rythvika, Gautham Karthik, Prasanna, Bonny Simha and Vikranth.

Shoot for Dhanush’s ‘Karnan’ has been wrapped up. The star informed the same through his social media handle along with his sharing a photo taken with director Mari Selvaraj.

Dhanush has tweeted,

‘Karnan’ is a rural drama that is partly inspired from real life incidents. Just like Mari Selvaraj’s widely acclaimed debut film ‘Pariyerum Perumal’, this one is also expected to make a big impact among critics and the general masses. Malayali actress Rajisha Vijayan is making her Tamil debut with this film. The actress underwent a remarkable transformation for the film by shedding a few kilos to look like a typical village belle.

Along with Dhanush and Rajisha, the cast of ‘Karnan’ also includes Lal, Lakshmipriya Chandramouli, Azhagar Perumal, Natty aka Natarajan Subramanian, ’96’ fame Gouri Kishan and Yogi Babu. Cinematographer Theni Eswar and composer Santhosh Narayanan are part of the technical crew. Kollywood’s veteran producer Kalipuli S Thanu is producing the film under the banner of V Creations.

After ‘Finals’ Rajisha Vijayan is starring in another sports film titled ‘Kho Kho’. The film is written and directed by Rahul Riji Nair of ‘Ottamuri Velicham’ fame and it is produced under the banner of First Print Studios. The makers have now successfully managed to wrap up the entire shoot.

Kho Kho is a traditional Indian sport. It is also a popular game played across South Asia and has a strong presence in South Africa and England. Rajisha will be playing a Kho Kho player’s role in the film. This is actually her second outing as a sportsperson. She had previously played the role of a cyclist in ‘Finals’. After the strenuous shoot of ‘Kho Kho’ that lasted for over two months, Rajisha has taken a much needed break at an Ayurvedic hospital. In her Instagram handle, she has shared photos from there.

‘Kho Kho’ cinematography by Tobin Thomas of ‘Stand Up’ fame and music by Sidhartha Pradeep. Appu Bhattathiri will be the post-production supervisor and edits will be done by Christy Sebastian.

‘Soorarai Pottru’ directed by Sudha Kongara tells an inspiring story of a common man’s journey from humble backgrounds to accomplish his dream of launching his own aircraft business with the aim of serving the underprivileged. The film starring Suriya and Aparna Balamurali in the leads got released in Amazon Prime Video and received phenomenal response from all corners.

‘Andhaghaaram’ directed by V Vignarajan is a supernatural suspense thriller that got released on Netflix last month. The film has ‘Kaithi’ fame Arjun Das, Vinoth Kishan, Pooja Ramachandran, Kumar Natarajan and Misha Ghoshal in major roles. It garnered largely positive reviews from the critics, who rated it as a very unique attempt as far as Tamil cinema is concerned.

The Malayalam film ‘Jallikattu’ is India’s official entry at Oscars in International Feature Film category this year. The film directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery has already won numerous accolades at the regional and international level.

It’s a wrap for Kaanekaane!

The makers of ‘Kaanekaane’ have called it a wrap after 38 of shoot. Tovino Thomas, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Shruti Ramachandran and Suraj Venjaramoodu will be seen playing the lead roles in the film. It marks the reunion of the ‘Uyare’ combo — director Manu Ashokan and script writer duo Bobby-Sanjay. The film was conceived and shot completely in just six months time.

Director Manu Ashokan shared the excitement in wrapping up the shoot through his social media handle. He has written,

Unlike Manu Ashokan’s debut film ‘Uyare’, which was an inspiring story based on true events, ‘Kaanekaane’ is a fictional tale of real human relationships and emotions. As per the makers, the film offers great scope for performance and the four lead actors — Tovino Thomas, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Shruti Ramachandran and Suraj Venjaramoodu — will be seen in equally important roles. Prem Prakash and Rony David Raj are also essaying major roles.

On the technical front, Alby Antony is the DOP and Abhilash Chandran, the editor. Ranjin Raj of ‘Joseph’ fame is composing the music. The film is being produced under the banner of DreamKatcher.

Post-production works for Mammootty starrer ‘The Priest’ have begun. Music director Rahul Raj has begun the background score works. Last day, the film’s director Jofin T Chacko took to his Facebook account to share a photo taken with Rahul Raj and informed the same.

‘The Priest’, scripted by Jofin himself, is said to be a mystery thriller. The film was in the final stages of shoot when the nationwide lockdown was announced. After a gap of over 6 months, the makers resumed shoot in October. Due to the pandemic threat, the team followed all the safety measures recommended by the government to complete the shoot.

‘The Priest’ brings together Manju Warrier and Mammootty for the first time ever. The cast also includes Nikhila Vimal, Saniya Iyappan, Jagadheesh, Ramesh Pisharody, Ameya Mathew, Baby Monica of ‘Kaithi’ fame, ‘Nayika Nayakan’ fame Venkitesh and Tony Luke in supporting roles.

The film has Akhil George as the cinematographer and Shameer Muhammed as the editor. It is jointly produced by Anto Joseph, B Unnikrishnan and VN Babu.

Suriya is currently shooting for his new film with director Gautham Vasudev Menon. It is a short segment as part of the upcoming Netflix anthology ‘Navarasa’. A few location stills have just been shared online. In one of the photos, Suriya is seen holding a microphone and looks like a performing artist. This has lead to speculations among fans that the star is playing a singer’s role.

Earlier in one of his interviews, director Gautham Menon had opened up about his plans to make a musical romantic flick with Suriya as a musician. It will be interesting to see if this is the same project which was initially planned as a feature film. In the new location stills, Suriya looks dapper in a long haired get up. The actor had been sporting it from the lockdown days and Gautham Menon asked him to retain it as it suits the character.

Shoot for the film has been professing for the past couple of weeks. A few location stills have just been shared online. Suriya looks dapper in the long haired get up, which he will be sporting in the film. Expectations are high as Suriya-Gautham Menon combo’s previous two films, ‘Kaakha Kaakha’ and ‘Vaaranam Aayiram’ were big hits.

PC Sreeram is wielding the camera for this new film. Recently, the veteran had tweeted about how the film has a new narrative style and also about Suriya’s amazing performance in it. It is PC’s second film with director Gautham Menon. They had recently collaborated for ‘Avarum Naanum/Avalum Naanum’, a short film in the Amazon original anthology ‘Putham Pudhu Kaalai’.

‘Navarasa’ is an ambitious project that is being made for the welfare of the Tamil film industry members. Several big names are joining hands for this project, which is a compilation of nine short films. Apart from Gautham Menon, directors Karthik Subbaraj, Karthick Naren, KV Anand, Ponram, Rathindran Prasad, Arvind Swami, Bejoy Nambiar and Halitha Shameem are also helming a segment each.
