Film Critics Awards announced; Here’s the list of winners!

The 44th Kerala Film Critics Awards have been announced. Lijo Jose Pellissery’s ‘Jallikattu’ has bagged the award for best film of 2019. Lijo won the award for the director of the best film. Geethu Mohandas has been adjudged as the best director for her film ‘Moothon’. Nivin Pauly won the best actor award for ‘Moothon’ while Manju Warrier got selected as the best actress courtesy her performance in ‘Prathi Poovankozhi’.

For their lifetime contributions to cinema, Mammootty has been chosen for the Ruby Jubilee award and director Hariharan got bestowed with the Chalachithra Ratnam award. Here’s the full list:

Prithviraj tests positive for Covid-19 while shooting for Jana Gana Mana

Actor Prithviraj Sukumaran has been tested positive for Covid-19. The actor was shooting for his new film ‘Jana Gana Mana’ when he was diagnosed. He has shared a note in his social media handle to inform that he is asymptomatic and doing well. His post reads,

Hello everyone!
I’ve been shooting for Dijo Jose Anthony’s “Jana Gana Mana” since the 7th of October. We had strict protocols in place with regards to Covid regulations and associated safety measures. As is the norm, all involved in the shoot were tested before the schedule started and after the last day of shoot in the courtroom set we had put up, tests were repeated. Unfortunately, the test results this time came back positive and I have gone into isolation. I’m asymptomatic and am doing fine now. All primary and secondary contacts have been advised to isolate and get tested. Hoping to recover soon and get back to work ASAP. Cheers and thanks for the love and concern. ?

‘Jana Gana Mana’ is directed by Dijo Jose Antony of ‘Queen’ fame. Prithviraj and Suraj Venjaramoodu are playing the lead roles in the film. Since Prithviraj has tested positive, all the crew members are expected to be in isolation for the next few days.

Wolf: Shine Tom Chacko, Samyuktha Menon and Arjun Ashokan team up for a thriller

Shine Tom Chacko, Samyuktha Menon and Arjun Ashokan are coming together for a new film titled ‘Wolf’. It is an emotional thriller directed by Shaji Azees. The director has previously helmed films like ‘Shakespeare MA Malayalam’ and ‘Oridathoru Post Man’.

The story of ‘Wolf’ is set around a police aid post and a nearby house over a day and night. Popular novelist GR Indugopan has scripted the film. Shine Tom Chacko plays a police officer’s role in the film. Samyuktha Menon essays the part of a young woman who is about to get married. Arjun Ashokan plays her fiance’s role. Jaffer Idukki and Irshad are also there in important roles. Only a handful of actors are part of the cast.

The film has gone on floors today. Due to the pandemic situation, the makers are using limited resources to shoot the film. All safety protocols advised by the government will be followed by the crew members.

Anurag Basu’s new film ‘Ludo’ is gearing up for a direct release on Netflix. As it gets ready to premier on November 12, the makers have shared the trailer online. Similar to the game ludo, this film is conceived as with four intersecting stories set in the city of Mumbai. Abhishek Bachchan, Aditya Roy Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, Sanya Malhotra, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Pankaj Tripathi, Rohit Saraf and Pearle Maaney play the major roles in it.

From the trailer, ‘Ludo’ looks like a dark comedy. We can make out that Abhishek Bachchan plays a first-time child kidnapper in the film. Rajkummar Rao character is asked to lead a jailbreak by Fatima Sana Shaikh. Aditya Roy Kapur and Sanya Malhotra are seen romancing each other, while Rohit Saraf and Pearle Maaney are a young couple on the run. Pankaj Tripathi essays the part of a gangster.

‘Ludo’ is produced by director Anurag Basu along with Bhushan Kumar, Divya Khosla Kumar, Tani Somarita Basu and Krishnan Kumar.

As reported by us earlier, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Nimisha Sajayan are coming together for a new film to be directed by Jeo Baby. Titled as ‘The Great Indian Kitchen’, the film’s first look poster has released online. The poster features the two lead actors as a married couple. It must be noted that the two had played a couple in the National award winning film ‘Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum’ as well.

Director Jeo Baby has previously helmed films like ‘Kunju Daivam’, ‘2 Pennungal’ and ‘Kilometers and Kilometers’. His new film ‘The Great Indian Kitchen’ looks like a family drama. It will be interesting to see how the director utilizes the skills of his two amazingly talented lead actors.

The film has cinematography by Salu K Thomas. Francis Louis is the editor and Sooraj S Kurup will be handling the music department. Dijo Augustine, Jomon Jacob, Vishnu Rajan and Sajin S Raj are jointly producing the film.

Late Malayali filmmaker IV Sasi’s son Ani is making his directorial debut with a Telugu film titled ‘Ninnila Ninnila’. Nithya Menen, Ashok Selvan and Ritu Varma star in the film. Its first look poster featuring the lead actors has been released online by the makers. BVSN Prasad is producing the film.

Ani IV Sasi started his journey in cinema by assisting Priyadarshan in films like ‘Geetanjali’, ‘Sila Samayangalil’ and more recently in ‘Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham’. The youngster is also credited for penning the epic film’s screenplay along with Priyadarshan. His maiden film, ‘Ninnila Ninnila’, is shot majorly in the UK. From the first look poster, it looks like cooking/food forms an integral part of the film.

Jayasurya and Namitha Pramod in Nadhirshah’s next

On the 5th anniversary of the release of his superhit directorial debut, ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’ (AAA), Nadhirshah has announced his next film. Jayasurya and Namitha Pramod, both of whom were part of ‘AAA’, will be seen playing the lead roles in the new film. Veteran Salim Kumar will also be seen in a major role. The film will be produced by Arun Narayan Productions.

Suneesh Varanad is scripting the film, which is yet-to-be titled. He has worked in various TV Shows including Badai Bungalow and has also scripted the Manju Warrier-starrer ‘Mohanlal’. Just like Nadhrishah’s previous films, this one is also expected to be an out and out fun entertainer.

Sujith Vaassudev, who had collaborated with Nadhirshah in ‘AAA’, will be cranking the camera for this film as well. The makers are planning to start shooting on November 10. Complete details regarding the cast and crew are expected to be out before the film goes on floors.

Murali Gopy-Rathish Ambat combo’s next after Kammarasambhavam to begin early next year

The ‘Kammarasambhavam’ combo of Murali Gopy and Rathish Ambat are reuniting for a new film. Last day, Murali took to his social media handle to share a selfie, which is probably taken during one of their discussion sessions. He also informed that their new film will go on floors early next year.

Prithviraj is said to be playing the lead role in the film. Unconfirmed reports suggest that it will be an action flick, that will be different from the regular mass entertainers. Despite being a debutant, director Rathish Ambat was highly impressive with his filmmaking aesthetics in ‘Kammarasambhavam’. Though the film was not a big commercial success, it got widespread appreciation post its television premier and digital release. Even with the limited resources, the director showed immense potential in helming a big scale multi-genre film.

Naturally, expectations will be on the higher side for Murali Gopy-Rathish Ambat duo’s new film. A formal announcement with full details regarding the cast and crew is expected to be made shortly.

Nayanthara and Kunchacko Boban are teaming up for a new film titled ‘Nizhal’. Editor-turned-filmmaker Appu N Bhattathiri is making his directorial debut with this film. It is jointly produced by Anto Joseph, Abhijith M Pillai, Badusha, Fellini TP and Ginesh Jose. From the title poster, it looks like a mystery-filled horror flick.

Kunchacko Boban and Nayanthara are acting together for the first time, so their rapport on-screen will be interesting to look forward to. Appu N Bhattathiri is a State Award winning editor noted for his works in critically acclaimed films like ‘Oraalpokkam’, ‘Ozhivudivasathe Kali’, ‘Manhole’, ‘Ottamuri Velicham’ etc.

Appu’s directorial debut ‘Nizhal’ is scripted by S Sanjeev. On the technical side, the director himself will be editing the film along with Arunlal SP. Sooraj S Kurup will be handling the music department and cinematography will be done by Deepak D Menon. The makers are planning to start shooting early next year. More details are expected to be out before the film goes on floors.

Confirmed: Santosh Sivan to handle cinematography in Barroz

Mohanlal’s directorial debut ‘Barroz’ is getting ready to go on floors next year. Pre-production works have been underway for almost a year now. It is a highly ambitious film that is planned to be made entirely in 3D format. Jijo Punnoose, the visionary filmmaker who made India’s first 3D film ‘My Dear Kuttichathan’, is scripting the film.

The makers of ‘Barroz’ are busy assembling some of the best available talents to associate with the film. The ace Santosh Sivan has been signed as the DOP. Initially, KU Mohanan was part of the project but he has opted out due to other commitments. Last day, Sivan informed his followers in social media about joining team ‘Barroz’ by sharing a photo taken with Mohanlal and Jijo Punnoose. He captioned it as,

‘Barroz’ is a fantasy film set against the backdrop of the maritime history of Portugal, Spain, India and Africa. It is the story of Barroz, a mythical figure who was the gaurdian of Vasco da Gama’s valuable treasures for 400 years until his true heir comes back to protect it. While Mohanlal plays the titular role, the supporting cast mostly comprises of foreign actors from US, Spain, Portugal and Ghana.

Antony Perumbavoor is producing the film under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas.
