Official: Alphonse Puthren’s next titled as Paattu; Fahadh Faasil to play the lead!

Five years after the release of the sensational hit ‘Premam’, director Alphonse Puthren has finally announced his next. The film has been titled as ‘Paattu’ and Fahadh Faasil will be playing the lead role in it. Zachariah Thomas and Alvin Antony will be producing the film under the banner of UGM Entertainments. Alphonse made the announcement through his official Facebook page. He also added that details regarding the cast and crew will be updated soon.

For the last few years, Alphonse has been planning to make a musical film. He has been learning music from various online sources for the project. Besides scripting and direction, Alphonse will also be composing the film’s music.

It is worth a mention that Kalidas Jayaram was the initial choice for the film. He later opted out due to other commitments. With Fahadh Faasil on board, expectations will be huge among the cinephiles. While there were rumours that the film will be a bilingual, Alphonse has confirmed that it will be made completely in Malayalam.

It is already known that Dulquer Salmaan has committed a film with director Rosshan Andrrews. Bobby-Sanjay is scripting the film in which the star will be seen playing a police officer’s role. Though Dulquer had appeared as a cop briefly in ‘Vikramadithyan’, this is expected to be be his first full-fledged police role. The actor has pinned high hopes on the film. In a recent interview, he revealed that the film has a brilliant script and that he is eagerly looking forward to start shooting for it.

Rosshan Andrrews and Bobby-Sanjay have worked together multiple times in the past. The same combo had previously made another cop film titled, ‘Mumbai Police’, which wasn’t anything like seen before in Malayalam cinema. So expectations will certainly be high when they reunite for a Dulquer Salmaan film. The star’s own production house Wayfarer Films is producing the film.

Once the restrictions over film shootings are lifted, Dulquer will resume works for ‘Hey Sinamika’, his upcoming Tamil rom-com directed by dance choreographer-turned-filmmaker Brinda. His cop film with Rosshan Andrrews is expected to kick-start immediately after that.

Kutti Love Story: Amala Paul to star in Gautham Menon’s segment in the upcoming anthology

Recently, it was announced that Tamil filmmakers Gautham Vasudev Menon, Venkat Prabhu, AL Vijay and Nalan Kumarasamy would be teaming up for an anthology film titled ‘Kutti Love Story’. The formal announcement was made with a interesting promo video in which the four directors narrate a particular romantic scene from their respective films.

Ever since then, an official word regarding the cast and crew details of each of these four segments has been eagerly awaited. Buzz is that Amala Paul would be playing the lead in Gautham Menon’s segment. It is also her first film with the director and hence, it will be interesting to be see how the segment turns out.

Meanwhile, it also reported that Nalan Kumarasamy’s film will star Vijay Sethupathi. From the promo video, it seems like this segment is about a married couple. The actor-director duo have previously worked together in ‘Soodhu Kavvum’ and ‘Kadhalum Kadandhu Pogum’.

‘Kutti Love Story’ is most likely to get a direct OTT release.

The End: Akshay Kumar paid over Rs 90 crores to star in his maiden web series!

In the last few years, leading OTTs like Netflix and Amazon Prime have got several top stars from Bollywood to foray into the digital space. Last year, it was announced that Akshay Kumar will be making his digital debut with a web series titled ‘The End’.

A grand launch event was also held where it was hinted that the show will be an action-packed entertainer. Reports suggest that the producers have paid a massive remuneration to the star to get him on board. If reports are to be believed, Akshay has been paid over Rs 90 crore to feature in the web series. This is said to be the highest amount paid for any Indian star for a digital show.

‘The End’, which will be streaming in Amazon Prime, is a dystopian sci-fi thriller that will be made on a massive scale. It is said to be a survival thriller set in alternate universe. It was supposed to go on flores this year but due to the pandemic, it has been postponed. Details regarding the cast and crew associated with the show have not yet been revealed.

Mamta Mohandas has come up with a new music video titled ‘Thedal’. It was released last day through actor Prithviraj Sukumaran’s official social media handle. The video follows a couple with Dubai as the backdrop. As per the makers, it is an experimental musical exploration on love and a tribute to life.

‘Thedal’ is directed by Sachin Ramdas and music is composed by Sachin Warrier. Mamta and Sachin Warrier have sung the track that has lyrics by Anu Elizabeth Jose. Mark Hobson is the cinematographer. Editing and sound design is handled by Sajad Azeez

Mamta Mohandas meanwhile is launching her own production house. The company has been named as Mamta Mohandas Productions and their maiden venture will be announced soon. It is learnt that Mamta won’t be playing the lead character in the film but might make a guest appearance. It will be a completely commercial film with three songs.

On the acting front, Mamta has ‘Bilal’ and ‘Lalbagh’ coming up. ‘Bilal’, the sequel to ‘Big B’, will have her reprising the character of Rimi Tomy. ‘Lalbagh’ shoot has already been wrapped up. Set entirely in the city of Bangalore, the film is a crime thriller directed by Prasanth Murali Padmanabhan.

Dhyan Sreenivasan’s next titled as Kadavul Sakayam Nadanasabha

Dhyan Sreenivasan is set to star in a new film titled ‘Kadavul Sakayam Nadanasabha’. Its formal announcement was made earlier in the day through the actor’s official Facebook page. The film is scripted by Bipin Chandran of ‘1983’ fame. Debutant Jithu Vayalil will be directing the film.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that ‘Kadavul Sakayam Nadanasabha’ is the remake of hit Telugu film, ‘Agent Sai Srinivasa Athreya’. The Naveen Polishetty starrer was a big success that went on to be raved by non-Telugu audience as well. It is about a small-time detective who sets out to solve a murder case which eventually leads to a big crime racket.

It is not yet known if ‘Kadavul Sakayam Nadanasabha’ is indeed a remake but it will be interesting to see Dhyan essaying a detective’s role. His character in the film is named as Sathyaneshan Nadar. The actor had recently reduced weight and is in good shape now.

Dhyan currently has some other projects lined up. He will be seen as one of the leads alongside Suraj Venjaramoodu in ‘Higuita’, directed by debutant Hemanth G Nair. ‘Adukkala: The Manifesto’, a family-drama directed by debutant Maxwell Jose is another project in his kitty. Dhyan is also scripting a comedy entertainer titled ‘Pathira Kurbana’. The film has him, Aju Varghese and Neeraj Madhav in the lead roles.

Indrans-Sreenath Bhasi starrer #Home starts rolling!

We had recently reported about Friday Film House producing a new film with Indrans in the lead. Titled as ‘#Home’, the film is scripted and directed by Rojin Thomas, who was one of the directors of the hit film, ‘Philips and the Monkey Pen’. The film started rolling today in Kochi.

Along with Indrans, ‘#Home’ also has Sreenath Bhasi in a major role. Though Indrans has been part of the industry for nearly three decades, it is in the last few years that has been doing performance-oriented characters. ‘#Home’ also marks his first mainstream project as a lead actor.

The film deals with the communication gap that exist between a technically challenged father and his kids, who are caught up in the digital world. Indrans plays the father’s role and Sreenath Bhasi will be seen as his son. Maniyanpilla Raju, Srikant Murali, Vijay Babu and Johny Antony are also part of the cast.

Director Rojin has retained the same technicians from his first two films — ‘Philips and the Monkey Pen’ and ‘Jo and the Boy’. Neil D’Cunha is the cinematographer and music department will be handled by Rahul Subramanian.

Veteran filmmaker Sibi Malayil is all set to make a comeback after a five year long gap. Asif Ali will be starring in the new film which will be produced by Ranjith. Sibi Malayil and Ranjith have previously collaborated for films like ‘Maya Mayuram’, ‘Summer in Bethlahem’ and ‘Ustaad’. Ranjith had scripted these films. Interestingly, today marks the 22nd anniversary of ‘Summer in Bethlahem’ and the duo took this special occasion to announce their reunion.

Sibi Malayil and Asif Ali have previously worked together in ‘Apoorvaragam’, ‘Violin’ and ‘Unnam’. Details regarding the new film’s genre, and other cast and crew members are expected to be formally announced in the coming days. Shoot is scheduled to begin this year itself.

Asif Ali meanwhile has his kitty full with a bunch of promising projects lined up. He was shooting for Rajeev Ravi’s cop-thriller ‘Kuttavum Shikshayum’ before the lockdown was announced. He also has ‘Ellam Sheriyaakum’ with Jibu Jacob, ‘Thattum Vellattam’ with Mridul Nair, ‘Maheshum Maruthiyum’ with Sethu, ‘A Ranjith Cinema’ with Nishanth Sattu and an untitled film with M Padmakumar coming up.

Dileep announces a new film titled Khalasi

Last day, it was announced that Dileep will be starring in a new film titled ‘Khalasi’. Debutant Mithilraj will be directing the film and it will be produced by Gokulam Gopalan’s Sree Gokulam Movies. Anuroop Koylandi, Satheesh and Mithilraj have jointly scripted the film. Details regearing the other cast and crew members, and when shoot begins are not yet known.

Interestingly, the announcement of Dileep’s ‘Khalasi’ came right after director VA Shrikumar announced his new film ‘Mission Konkan’, which is also based on Mappila Khalasis. Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award winner TD Ramakrishnan is scripting that film.

Khalasis are a group of people traditionally employed at ports and dockyards. They have a history dating back to over 2000 years. They are involved in the construction of Urus. Centuries back, the skills of the Khalasi community amazed the sailors and merchants from European and Mediterranean countries, which brought them to Beypore to buy Urus. Khalasis mainly relied on physical strength, skill and teamwork. Huge structures like the Idukki dam, Feroke bridge, Vadakkumbadu bridge and the Mahanadi bridge in Orissa are all testimony to the skills and teamwork of the Khalasi people. Both the films will be based on the Khalasi community.

Though plot details about Dileep’s ‘Khalasi’ have not yet been revealed, ‘Mission Konkan’, will be set in the backdrop of Konkan Railways. VA Shrikumar has planned his film as a pan-Indian project with leading stars from various industries as part of the cast. Hollywood-based technicians will be handling the action sequences. Shoot is scheduled to begin from December.

Mission Konkan: Odiyan director VA Shrikumar to helm a big-budget, multilingual film next

VA Shrikumar is quite a familiar name among the Malayali movie lovers. A veteran in the ad film industry, Shrikumar made his feature film debut in 2018 with the Mohanlal starrer ‘Odiyan’. The unprecedented pre-release hype and the severe backlash it received after release is still fresh among the audience. Two years after that, the director is coming back with a new film titled ‘Mission Konkan’. It will be produced under the banner of Earth and Air Films.

‘Mission Konkan’ is based on the heroic tales of Mappila Khalasis when our nation’s security was threatened. Khalasis are a group of people traditionally employed at ports and dockyards. They have a history dating back to over 2000 years. They are traditionally involved in the construction of Urus. Centuries back, the skills of the Khalasi community amazed the sailors and merchants from European and Mediterranean countries, which brought them to Beypore to buy Urus.

Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award winner TD Ramakrishnan, best known for his bsst-selling novels ‘Francis Itty Cora’ and ‘Sugandhi Enna Andal Devanayaki, is scripting the film. He was also a Chief Controller of the Southern Railways.

‘Mission Konkan’ is planned as a pan-Indian film. As per the makers, leading stars from film industries across the country will be part of the cast. Hollywood-based technicians will be handling the action sequences. Shoot will be beginning from December.
