‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ has to be the most talked about Malayalam film of the year so far. The film directed by Sachy had Prithviraj Sukumaran and Biju Menon in the lead roles. Although it was a big success at the box office, it was after the OTT release that many non-Malayalis started watching the film and were mighty impressed by it.

Recently, Tamil actor Vishnu Vishal got to watch the film and tweeted in praise of it. Tagging Prithviraj, he wrote,

Hii @PrithviOfficial sir..

In luv with u and ur team..
Am sure u wil b bak from wher u r..
As a fan and a well wisher…

Vishnu vishal

Prithviraj replied by back by saying how he loved Vishnu’s cop-thriller film ‘Ratchasan’ and that he is looking forward to seeing more such great works. It is very heartening to see stars from two industries share such mutual admiration.

‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ meanwhile is set to remade in Tamil and Tamil. S Kathiresan, who has produced acclaimed films like ‘Aadukalam’ and ‘Jigarthanda’ has acquired the rights of the Tamil version. Sasikumar and Sarath Kumar are rumoured to be playing the lead roles but there is no official confirmation yet. The film’s Telugu rights have been bagged by Suryadevara Naga Vamsi, who was the producer of superhit film ‘Jersey’ and the line producer of recent blockbuster ‘Ala Vaikunthapurramloo’ has bagged the rights.

It will be interesting to see how the makers of the Tamil and Telugu version adapt ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ to suit the sensibilities of the native audience.

Malayalam actor Sharafudheen blessed with a baby girl

Sharafudheen is having a great time not just on the professional front, but in his personal life as well. The actor has been blessed with a baby girl. Sharaf himself took to his official social media handle to share a cute photo of the newborn. He is married to Beema, who hails from Changanassery. The couple have another daughter named Dua.

Though Sharafudheen started his career in 2013 with ‘Neram’, it was his performance in ‘Premam’ that made him popular among the masses. He was mostly confined to comedy, side-kick roles before ‘Varathan’ gave him a big makeover. The Fahadh Faasil starrer had Sharaf in a negative role for the first time in his career. His menacing act in it was lapped by critics and general audience alike.

Priyadarshan rates Fahadh Faasil as the most natural actor in Malayalam after Mohanlal

In the last few years, Fahadh Faasil has been consistently delivering stellar performances back to back to establish himself as one of the most talented actors in the country today. He has proved his mettle to perform both urban and rural roles with ease. Humour is another genre that the actor has excelled in. Ace filmmmaker Priyadarshan believes that Fahadh is the most natural actor in Malayalam after Mohanlal.

In a recent interview to The Newsminute, Priyadarshan is quoted saying, “Fahadh Faasil is the best among the current crop. Some of his performances are so natural and he can pull off even humour with ease. Perhaps he is the most natural actor in Malayalam after Mohanlal.”

Though Priyadarshan hasn’t worked with Fahadh before, he had remade ‘Maheshinte Prathikaram’ in Tamil with Udhayanidhi Stalin in the lead. While the original was a huge success that even won a couple of National awards, the Tamil version ended up as a failure.

We had earlier reported that director Omar Lulu will be teaming up with Babu Antony for a new film titled ‘Powerstar’. The film is scripted by veteran Dennis Joseph, who is making a comeback after a long gap. Unlike the director’s previous films, which were all youthful fun flicks, ‘Powerstar’ will be a full-on mass entertainer.

Omar Lulu has often been criticised for the excess usage of double meaning and adult rated jokes in his films. But he has assured that ‘Powerstar’ will be devoid of all that. It is expected to be a proper mass film with loads of action in it. Omar has also revealed that a Bollywood actor will be playing the villain role and there will be no heroine in the film.

An official announcement with full details regarding the entire cast and crew is expected to be made soon after the ongoing crisis related to Corona outbreak is over.

Marakkar Arabikadalinte Simham to hit screens only in December or early 2021

The Covid-19 pandemic has thrown the entertainment industry into a predicament. Worldwide, big production houses have been postponing the release of films that were originally scheduled for this summer. In Malayalam, the worst to be affected has to be ‘Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham’. However, Covid-19 outbreak and the lockdown imposed by the government played spoilsport. Even after a month, a sense of uncertainty still looms over when things will return back to normalcy. Industry insiders inform that it might take up to August or September for theatres to open in full swing. The makers of ‘Marakkar’ meanwhile are planning to release the film only in December or early next year.

In a recent interview with TNM, the film’s director Priyadarshan had said that they are concerned about the product but are in no hurry to release the film. They will be taking a call regarding the release only when the world returns to normalcy and people are in a position to enjoy things the way they used to earlier.

‘Marakkar’ has top artists and technicians from across the country associated with it. Aashirvad Cinemas, Confident Group and Moonshot Entertainment are jointly producing the film.
