Forensic streaming rights acquired by Amazon Prime; Set to start streaming shortly!

Tovino Thomas starrer ‘Forensic’ was having a fabulous run at the box office when theatres had to shut down due to the lockdown. Those who could not watch the film even after hearing all the positive response were extremely disappointed. Much to their delight, the makers have announced that streaming giant Amazon Prime has brought the film’s rights. It will be available online for legal watch from May 1.

‘Forensic’ directed by debutants Akhil Paul and Anas Khan is a crime-investigative thriller centred around a series of abduction and killing of girl children. What made the film stand out from other regular thrillers made in Malayalam is the way forensic sciences and its possibilities have been explored. It was the film’s USP and most critics praised the authenticity with which it was presented.

‘Forensic’ has Tovino Thomas essaying the lead role of a medico legal advisor. Mamta Mohandas plays an equally important character of an IPS officer who heads the investigation. Reba Monica John, Renji Panicker, Prathap Pothen, Rony David, Dhanesh Anand, Anwar Shereef, Srikanth Murali, Ginu John and many others are also part of the cast.

‘Forensic’ has grossed around Rs 20 from the worldwide box office before it had to be pulled out from theatres. The film is produced by Navis Xaviour and Siju Mathew under the banner of Juvis Productions and Raju Malliath’s Ragam Movies.

Kollywood celebrities have been providing financial assistance to FEFSI workers, who have been jobless for the last one month due to the lockdown. Kangana Ranaut, who is making her Tamil debut with ‘Thalaivi’ has donated Rs 5 lakhs to the FEFSI workers and another Rs 5 lakhs to the crew members of her film.

‘Thalaivi’ directed by AL Vijay is the biopic of former Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalithaa. The film will be centered around Jayalalithaa’s rise from a South Indian actor to one of the most powerful political leaders in the country. Kangana is playing Jayalalithaa’s part and the actress has been putting in great efforts to play the character. She got herself trained in classical dancing, Tamil pronunciation and also put on weight.

‘Thalaivi’ scripted by ‘Baahubali’ writer KV Vijayendra Prasad and Rajat Arora is being made as a bilingual in Tamil and Hindi. The makers had announced that the film would be hitting screens worldwide on June 26, 2020 but going by the current situation, it seems highly unlikely.

Shah Rukh Khan has been teasing his fans for over a year regarding the details about his upcoming films. There have been all sorts of speculations in social medias about who will be directing his next film. Names like Atlee, Rajkumar Hirani, Vetrimaaran, Aashiq Abu and Raj-DK have been doing the rounds through an official word has not yet been made.

However, SRK has now hinted that his next will be with Rajkumar Hirani. During an interaction session with his followers in Twitter last day, the star was asked to choose between Hollywood filmmakers Martin Scorsese and Christopher Nolan.

Replying to the question in his trademark cheeky style, SRK said, “Wow both are awesome and I have met them…but Raju apna sa lagta hai…nahi?”

This tweet from the Badshah himself has strengthened the speculations that he is teaming up with Rajkumar Hirani. The latter is one of the most successful filmmakers in Indian cinema. He has directed five films in his career – ‘Munna Bhai MBBS’, ‘Lage Raho Munna Bhai’, ‘3 Idiots’, ‘PK’ and ‘Sanju’ – and all of them have been huge commercial blockbusters.

Shah Rukh Khan has been going through a very lean patch for the last few years and it’s only ideal if he decides to joins hands with a hit maker like Rajkumar Hirani. Let’s hope the formal announcement will be made soon

Lucifer Telugu remake: Allu Arjun to reprise Prithviraj’s role?

As we already know, Chiranjeevi is starring in the Telugu remake of Malayalam blockbuster ‘Lucifer’. Chiranjeevi will be reprising the role played by Mohanlal in the original. Sujeeth of ‘Saaho’ fame will be directing the remake version. Chiranjeevi’s son actor Ram Charan will be producing the film. The makers are currently busy adapting the script to suit the Telugu audience.

Meanwhile, rumour has it that Allu Arjun will be reprising the role played by Prithviraj in the original. Prithviraj essayed a character named Zayed Masood, who is the go-to-man of Mohanlal’s character Stephen Nedumbally aka Qureshi Abram. Though he appears only briefly, it is a very impactful role that offered Prithviraj immense scope to flex his muscles. The makers of the Telugu version are yet to give an official word about the cast, but sources close to Allu Arjun have already dismissed the rumours. It is most likely that Chiranjeevi’s son Ram Charan will be playing the character.

‘Lucifer’ written by Murali Gopy and directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran is a big scale political-thriller. Along with Mohanlal, the film had the presence of other stars like Vivek Oberoi, Manju Warrier, Indrajith Sukumaran, Tovino Thomas, Nyla Usha and Prithviraj. ‘Lucifer’ is conceived as a trilogy and the second part ‘Empuraan’ is planned to go on floors next year. It remains to be seen how well the Telugu version will be adapted.

As we already know, director Bhadran has been trying to restore ‘Spadikam’ in 4K and Dolby Atmos format and re-release it in theatres. Recently, during the film’s 25th anniversary, the director confirmed it. Works for the same was progressing was a brisk pace before they hit a roadblock in the form of lockdown.

According to director Bhadran, their initial plan was to release the film during the Onam season but it seems highly unlikely. Still, the makers are hopeful of releasing the film this year. They are planning to releasing it in over 100 theatres. It remains to be seen how things turn out as the Coron virus outbreak is expected to trigger a lot of changes within the industry.

Bhadran firmly believes that ‘Spadikam’ is three times better in terms of the audio-visual experience when converted into 4K Dolby Atoms format. Geometrix company along with Prasad Corporation are supervising the restoration process.

He shared a photo taken with Thalapathy Vijay during a recent function. The photo seems to be taken during the engagement ceremony of Atharvaa’s younger brother Akash Murali and Sneha Britto, who is a close relative of Vijay. Sneha is the daughter of Xavier Britto who is producing Vijay’s upcoming film ‘Master’.

In the photo shared by Atharvaa, Vijay is seen sporting a different hairstyle and looks handsome as ever. Fans who have been impatiently waiting to catch a glimpse of the star during these lockdown days have made the photo trend in Twitter.

On the work front, Atharvaa has three films coming up — ‘Kurudhi Aattam’, ‘Thalli Pogadhey’ and an untitled film with Vani Bhojan of ‘Oh My Kadavule’ fame. Vijay meanwhile is awaiting the release of ‘Master’ which will be hitting screens only after the Corona crisis is over.

Dhyan Sreenivasan set to start works on his next directorial

Dhyan Sreenivasan made his directorial debut last year with the rom-com ‘Love Action Drama’. After the superhit success of his maiden film, he is now set to start works on his his sophomore directorial. If things turn out as per plans, the film will go on floors sometime next year. Details regarding cast, crew or the film’s genre are not yet known.

Dhyan currently has a slew of acting commitments lined up. He will be seen playing one of the leads alongside Suraj Venjaramoodu in ‘Higuita’, which is directed by debutant Hemanth G Nair. ‘Adukkala: The Manifesto’, a family drama directed by newcomer Maxwell Jose is his other project in the kitty. Lena and Dhyan will be seen as the leads as a mother-son duo.

Dhyan is also set to star in the Telugu remake of the superhit Telugu film ‘Agent Sai Srinivasa Athreya’. He is also scripting the comedy entertainer ‘Pathira Kurbana’. The film has him, Aju Varghese and Neeraj Madhav in the lead roles.

Ever since the release of ‘Article 15’, there has been talks about the film getting remade in regional languages. Boney Kapoor had bagged the Tamil remake rights of the film. Initially, there were speculations about Thala Ajith starring in the remake but it never materialized. Latest reports suggest that Boney Kapoor has approached Udhayanidhi Stalin for the film.

‘Kanaa’ fame Arunraja Kamaraja is one of the frontrunners to direct the remake version. An official word is expected to be made after the Corona crisis is over. If the project materializes, it will be the first film featuring Udhayanidhi Stalin as a police officer. Since ‘Article 15’ has a storyline with a nationwide appeal, it should work with the Tamil audience as well.

‘Article 15’ was one of the most acclaimed films in Indian cinema last year. Directed by Anubhav Sinha, the film talks about the Article 15 of the Constitution of India, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of religion, race, caste, sex or place of birth. The film earned widespread critical acclaim and emerged as a huge commercial success as well.

Tamil film producer CV Kumar is often crediting for spotting many young talents and backing films with fresh subjects. During the phase from 2012-2016, his banner Thirukumaran Entertainment produced several quality entertainers like ‘Attakathi’, ‘Pizza’, ‘ Soodhu Kavvum’, ‘Thegidi’, ‘Mayavaan’, ‘Mundaasupatti’, ‘Indru Netru Naalai’, ‘Irudhi Suttru’, ‘Kadhalum Kadandhu Pogum’ and ‘Iraivi’.

Among these aforementioned films, three of them are now getting sequels. ‘Thegidi’, ‘Maayavan’ and ‘Soodhu Kavvum’ are the three films. Last day, Thirukumaran Entertainment had conducted a poll on their official Twitter handle to know the expectations of audiences on the sequels, and as expected ‘Soodhu Kavvum’ topped the poll by a big margin.

‘Soodhu Kavvum’ directed by Nalan Kumarasamy was released in 2013. It is a quirky crime comedy that starred Vijay Sethupathi, Bobby Simha, Ashok Selvan, Ramesh Thilak, Karunakaran and Sanchita Shetty in the lead roles. The film was a huge commercial success. Critics also heaped praise on the film for its unique storytelling and treatment.

‘Soodhi Kavvum’ is a landmark film in Vijay Sethupathi’s career. The film still enjoys tremendous popularity among the audience and the recent Twitter poll just proves it. It will be interesting to see if the whole cast will be retained for the second part.
Script works for the sequel is nearing the finishing stage and an official word is expected to be made soon.
