Sachy to script next for Prithviraj’s assistant

After the back to back superhit success of ‘Driving Licence’ and ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ (AK) Sachy is currently among the most sought after script writers in Malayalam cinema. Well known for penning mass commercial entertainers like ‘Run Baby Run’, ‘Ramaleela’ etc, Sachy upped his game with ‘AK’, which was both a critical and commercial success. The film is set to be remade in Tamil and Telugu.

Sachy will be next scripting a film for debutant director Jayan Nambiar. Jayan was Prithviraj’s assistant in ‘Lucifer’ and the chief associate director in ‘AK’. We hear that Prithviraj will be playing the lead in Jayan’s directorial debut. Since the star has multiple projects lined up this year, shoot is most likely to begin only in 2020.

Sachy meanwhile is planning to direct another film this year. Unlike his previous two films – ‘Anarkali’ and ‘AK’, this one will be scripted by two others. An official word with details regarding the full cast and crew is expected to be made very soon.

Fahadh Faasil to play a humour-filled character in Akhil Sathyan’s film

Veteran filmmaker Sathyan Anthikad’s twin sons Akhil and Anoop are turning independent directors this year. While Anoop’s directorial debut ‘Varane Aavashyamund’ has already emerged as a box office hit, shoot for Akhil’s film is still progressing. Fahadh Faasil is playing the lead role in the film, which is yet to be titled. Sethu Mannarkad of Full Moon Cinema is producing it.

The film has Fahadh playing a Mumbai-based Malayali youth. As per a report in TOI, it is a fun character that offers a lot of scope for the actor to display his humour skills. The narrative is centred around his journey from Mumbai to Kerala and then to Goa. Though Fahadh is yet to join the team, the team has already shot for a few portions. They are currently on a forced break due to the Corona virus outbreak.

Akhil Sathyan has also scripted the film which is basically a story between a young girl and an older woman, and how Fahadh’s character connects them both. Viji Venkatesh, a renowned author, is making her acting debut with this film. Dhwani Rajesh, the 13-year-old who had earlier starred in the Majid Majidi directorial ‘Beyond The Clouds’ is also playing a crucial role. Anjana Jayaprakash, who recently appeared in the Tamil-English web series ‘Queen’, is the other female lead.

On the technical front, the makers have got Sharan Velayudhan of ‘Ambili’ fame as the cinematographer and Justin Varghese to handle the music department. Besides scripting and directing, Akhil Sathyan is also editing the film.

After Soorarai Pottru, Suriya to do yet another biopic!

Suriya’s next release is the much-awaited ‘Soorarai Pottru’. The film directed by Sudha Kongara is loosely based on the life of GR Gopinath, the founder of Air Deccan and a retired captain of the Indian army. Suriya’s character in the film Nedumaaran Rajangam is inspired from the life of Gopinath, who started his journey from a rural background and later went on to own an aircraft business.

After ‘Soorari Pottru’, Suriya is likely to do yet another biopic. Kollywood medias report that ‘Kootathil Oruthan’ director TJ Gnanavel had recently met Suriya and narrated him a subject which is based on real incidents happened to the Irular tribal community in Tamil Nadu. Apparently, the star has been impressed by it and has asked the Gnanavel to work on the full fledged screenplay.

If everything goes well, Suriya will be acting in it after the completion of his already committed films. Suriya’s next to go on floors is ‘Aruva’ with director Hari. The film’s shoot was scheduled to begin in April but all plans have has now been put on hold due to the Corona virus outbreak. After wrapping up ‘Aruva’, Suriya will be working with Siva for a rural-based mass entertainer. The star has also signed for a film titled ‘Vaadivasal’ with director Vetrimaaran.

Sasikumar and Sarath Kumar to star in Ayyappanum Koshiyum Tamil remake?

As reported by us earlier, the superhit Malayalam film ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ is getting remade in Tamil. S Kathiresan, who has produced acclaimed films like ‘Aadukalam’ and ‘Jigarthanda’ has acquired the rights. Latest buzz in social medias is that Sasikumar and Sarath Kumar might play the lead roles in the film. While Sasikumar is expected to reprise Prithviraj’s role, Sarath Kumar will be essaying the role played by Biju Menon. An official confirmation in this regard is still awaited.

‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’, written and directed by Sachy, is a dual hero film that revolves around the conflict between a soon-to-retire policeman and a retired havildar. It is an intricately woven tale of revenge with a lot of important socio-political issues addressed. The film was a big hit at the box office and also earned critical acclaim.

Apart from the Tamil remake, the film’s Telugu rights have also been acquired. Suryadevara Naga Vamsi, who was the producer of superhit film ‘Jersey’ and the line producer of recent blockbuster ‘Ala Vaikunthapurramloo’ has bagged the rights. It will be very interesting to see how the makers of the Tamil and Telugu version adapt ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ to suit the sensibilities of the native audience.

Fahadh Faasil starrer ‘Malik’ was originally scheduled for release during the Vishu season in April. But now, due to the Corona virus scare, it is not yet known when the film will be hitting screens. In the meanwhile, the makers have been actively promoting the film by revealing new character posters online. A new poster featuring Vinay Forrt has just been released. He plays a character named David Kristhudas. Sharing the poster on his social media handle, Vinay Forrt wrote it as his most favorite character till date.

Of late, Vinay Forrt has been very selective as he carefully chooses his projects. The actor has pinned very high hopes on ‘Malik’. The Mahesh Narayanan directorial is actually based on a true incident that occurred few years back in Kerala. The story revolves around a sensitive coastal area where there was a resistance against this constant threat of displacement of a minority community.

Fahadh Faasil plays the lead character of Sulaiman Malik who was like a leader of the community. Vinay Forrt’s character David is a grey shaded one and the actor himself has said that it is very different from what he has done before. Since the story goes through various timelines, both the actors will be seen in looks ranging from their mid 20s to 50s. The supporting cast also includes Nimisha Sajayan, Dileesh Pothan, Indrans, Sudhi Koppa, Chandhunath, yesteryear actress Jalaja, Maala Parvathy and many others.

Malayalam filmmaker Aashiq Abu is known to be a very active person in the social media space. Sudhi Koppa and National award winning actress Surabhi Lakshmi are set to play the lead roles in a new film titled ‘Njan Manoharan’. The film is to be directed by Lidesh Devassy. He has also written the film’s story while screenplay is penned by Jince K Benny. The film comes with the tagline “I’m not short, I’m just not unusually tall”. The tagline gives the impression that the film is about a short person.

Sudhi Koppa supposedly plays the titular role of Manoharan. Though he is known for his comedy roles, Sudhi has also delivered impressive performances in films like ‘Paippin Chuvattile Pranayam’, ‘Joseph’ and ‘Porinju Mariam Jose’. ‘Njan Manoharan’ is expected to be a break for him.

On the technical front, the film has Nithin P Mohan cranking the camera and Saibalan composing the songs. Mejo Joseph will be handling the music department. Others in the crew include production controller Sasi Poduval, makeup artist Rasheed Ahammed, costume designer Sunil Rahman and art director Arun P Arjun.

Aadujeevitham team to continue shooting despite COVID-19 scare!

Shoot for Prithviraj-Blessy team’s ambitious film ‘Aadujeevitham’ continues to progress in Jordan despite the COVID-19 scare that has stalled film productions across the world. The makers decided to go ahead with the shoot as there are no flights operating in and out of Jordan. They are currently staying at a desert camp and the authorities have given the green signal to continue with the shoot after undergoing medical check ups for each member of the unit. Two actors from Oman are currently in precautionary quarantine in Amman along with all other passengers who flew in with them in the same flight. They are expected to join the team after the 2 week quarantine period.

Prithviraj has shared a detailed note on his Facebook page updating their current status. His post reads,

Stay safe.
These are tough times. Times we need to think and act collectively. The difference this time being..acting together means staying away from each other. As the world faces one of the greatest challenges of modern times, social distancing and self hygiene is the only way we can contain this pandemic. Thank you to all who’ve messaged and expressed concern over my safety and the safety of the Aadujeevitham unit. We are currently in Wadi Rum, Jordan and continuing shoot. We have decided so because given the circumstances, that seems to be our best option. There are no international flights operating in and out of Jordan at the moment, and given the fact that all of us are already here, we can either stay put in our camp in the desert which is currently accommodating only our unit, or get out and shoot at our location which is barely a few minutes outside our camp. After consulting with the authorities and undergoing medical check ups for each member of the unit, we have been given a go ahead for the shoot as the location and the process of filming Aadujeevitham is in itself very isolated. Yes, two of our actors have been put on precautionary quarantine in Amman along with all other passengers who flew in with them in the same flight. We hope to have them join us post the 2 week quarantine period. Do stick to all instructions from authorities and even more importantly, please do not panic.

‘Aadujeevitham’ is based on the award winning novel of the same name by Benyamin. The film originally went on floors two years back in March 2018. Due to Prithviraj’s other commitments and the need for him to appear in various looks, shoot happened over multiple schedules. Prithviraj has lost close to 30 kilos to achieve a malnourished look for the film. Apart from Jordan, the team will also be shooting in Algeria, Egypt and a few portions back home in Bangalore. The makers are planning to wrap up the entire shoot by August end.

Navya Nair, who has been away from films post her marriage, is making her comeback with a film titled ‘Oruthee’. VK Prakash is directing the film, which has a heroine-centric subject. S Suresh Babu has scripted the film that is basically a survival story that is set within a timeline of three days.

Vinayakan will be seen in a prominent role as a police officer in the film. It is a very unusual casting as Vinayakan has not done a similar role before in his career. It will be interesting to see how he portrays the role of a cop. The film has Navya playing the role of a mother of two kids. Her character Radhamani works as a boat conductor in the Ernakulam-Vypin route. Saiju Kurup plays her husband.

‘Oruthee’ also stars KPAC Lalitha, Sreedevi Varma, Kalabhavan Haneef and many others. On the technical front, Jimshi Khalid of ‘Anuraga Karikkin Vellam’ and ‘Allu Ramendran’ fame is wielding the camera. Lijo Paul has been trusted with the edits and Gopi Sunder is handling the music department. Benzy Nazar is producing the film under the banner of Benzy Productions.
