After Aadujeevitham, Prithviraj to join Indrajith for Ayalvashi

As reported by us earlier, Prithviraj and Indrajith are coming together for director Irshad Parari’s debut film. The film has been titled as ‘Ayalvashi’ and Prithviraj will be producing it under his own banner. This will be the banner’s third production venture after the sci-fi thriller ‘9’ and the upcoming ‘Driving Licence’.

As per latest reports, shoot for ‘Ayalvashi’ will begin in September after Prithviraj wraps up his portions for ‘Aadujeevitham’. The actor is currently on a three-month long break as part of preparations for the film. After reducing weight, he will be joining the team in March and finish all the works by September.

‘Ayalvashi’ will see Prithviraj and Indrajith sharing screen space after 3 years. Director Irshad Parari had worked with Prithviraj as his assistant in ‘Lucifer’. Irshad is also the elder brother of Muhsin Parari, who directed ‘KL 10 Path’ and co-wrote ‘Sudani From Nigeria’ and ‘Virus’.

‘Ayalvashi’, we hear, is centred around a conflict that exists between two neighbours. According to Prithviraj, though the film falls under the commercial, mainstream category, it is not just another regular potboiler.

Soorarai Pottru Kerala rights bagged by Spark Pictures

Suriya’s ‘Soorarai Pottru’ is gearing up for summer release. The film’s Kerala distribution rights have been bagged by Spark Pictures. The news was made official just a while back through social medias. Notably, Suriya’s last few films have not fared well at the Kerala box office. So the makers will be hoping to see this one click among the Malayali audience.

‘Soorarai Pottru’ has a good pre-release buzz courtesy the highly promising teaser. Recently, a theme song was released which has also been received well. ‘Irudhi Suttru’ fame Sudha Kongara is directing this film which is loosely based on the life of GR Gopinath, the founder of Air Deccan, who is also a retired captain of the Indian army. Sudha has scripted the film along with Shalini Usha Nair.

Suriya plays a character named Nedumaaran Rajangam Maara, a common man hailing from a small town who dreams of owning an aircraft business. Along with Suriya, the cast of ‘Soorarai Pottru’ also includes veterans Paresh Rawal, Jackie Shroff and Mohan Babu in important roles. Malayali actress Aparna Balamurali plays the female lead.

Guneet Monga’s Sikhya Entertainment is producing the film jointly with Suriya’s own production house, 2D Entertainment.

Jayasurya starrer ‘Anveshanam’ has been censored with a clean U certificate. With that, the film is now all set to hit screens on January 31. The film directed by Prasobh Vijayan of ‘Lilli’ fame is a medical thriller. From the trailers and promos, it looks highly promising and. Mukesh R Mehta, AV Anoop and CV Sarathi are jointly producing it under the banner of E4 Entertainment.

‘Anveshanam’ stars ‘Pretham’ fame Shruthi Ramachandran as the female lead. Vijay Babu also plays a crucial role in the film. Nandu, Lal, Lena, Leona Lishoy, Srikanth Murali, Jai Vishnu, Shaju Sreedhar and many others are part of the supporting cast. The film is scripted by debutant Francis Thomas with additional screenplay and dialogues penned by Ranjeeth Kamala Sankar and Salil V.

Sujith Vaassudev is the cinematographer and music is composed by Jakes Bejoy. Appu Bhattathiri is in charge of the edits while sound design is handled by Vishnu Govind and Sree Sankar of Sound Factory.

Prithviraj and Tovino Thomas to team up for a spy thriller?

Spy thrillers have always been a rarity in Malayalam film industry. If what we get to hear is true, a proper big-budget spy flick is finally set to be made. Prithviraj and Tovino are learnt to be playing the lead roles in the film. Official announcement is yet to be made but it is said that KS Bava will be directing the film. He has previously directed the Asif Ali starrer ‘Idiots’. Anto Joseph Film Company will be producing the film. There are rumours about the film bring titled as ‘Karachi 81’ but we still await a confirmation.

Earlier in the day, Prithviraj shared a note on his social media informing that a biggie will be announced tomorrow on Republic Day (January 26). The note gives a sneak peek about the film’s basic plot. It is a story set in the 80s when RAW’s elite southern commando force forms a team of best to counter the series of operations in India planned by ISI backed covert forces.

The team is lead by a man who was India’s finest counter insurgency commando. The film tells the inspiring tale of a few brave men and women who ensured the country’s security at a time when there was no digital surveillance.

Suresh Gopi is all set to make a comeback to the mass genre. His new film ‘Kaaval’ has gone on floors today. Nithin Renji Panicker of ‘Kasaba’ fame is directing the film. Nithin has also scripted the film that has been planned as an action-packed family drama. The story set in the high ranges of Idukki spans across two different timelines.

Along with Suresh Gopi, Lal was also supposed to play an equally important role in the film. However, due to his prior commitments in other languages, the actor opted out of ‘Kaaval’. Renji Panicker has now replaced him. The film will have both Suresh Gopi and Renji Panciker in two getups – an older and younger look.

Others in the cast include ‘Irupathiyonnaam Noottaandu’ fame Zaya David, Alencier Ley, IM Vijayan, Sujith Shankar, Kichu Tellus, Binu Pappu, Santhosh Keezhattoor, Muthumani and Pathamaraj Ratheesh. National award winner Nikhil S Praveen, noted for his work in Jayaraj’s highly acclaimed films ‘Bhayanakam’ and ‘Roudram’ is wielding the camera. Ranjin Raj of ‘Joseph’ fame has been assigned as the music director. Joby George of Goodwill Entertainments is producing the film.

Although Anwar Rasheed’s ambitious project ‘Trance’ has been in the making for over two years, nothing much was known regarding it including the genre or other plot details. Finally, as the film gears up for release on February 14, the director has divulged more details about the film. According to him, ‘Trance’ is not a realistic film but a drama that will entertain the audience.

Debutant Vincent Vadakkan has scripted the film that has Fahadh playing the lead of a motivational trainer named Biju Prasad. The film is centred around his mental and emotional growth at different phases of his life. Nazriya plays the female lead named Esther Lopez, a character that will be totally different from the bubbly roles that she is normally associated with.

Gautham Vasudev Menon, Soubin Shahir, Vinayakan, Chemban Vinod Jose, Dileesh Pothan, Sreenath Bhasi, Jinu Joseph, Joju George, Arjun Ashokan, Dharmajan Bolgatty, Arushi Mudgal and Aswathi Menon are also part of the cast. Cinematographer Amal Neerad, composers Jackson Vijayan and Sushin Shyam, editor Praveen Prabhakar and sound designer Resul Pookutty form the film’s core technical team.

It has been over two years since the second part of Mammootty’s cult gangster film ‘Big B’ got announced. After all the waiting, the film is finally getting ready to go on floors. Amal Neerad, who made his directorial debut with ‘Big B’, is helming the sequel as well. Composer Gopi Sunder has also been retained. Last day, he took to his social media handle to share a selfie taken with Amal Neerad during the recording session of ‘Bilal’. It is worth a mention that Gopi Sunder’s stellar background score in ‘Big B’ holds an iconic status. Naturally, there will be an added pressure on him in ‘Bilal’.

During its time of release in 2007, ‘Big B’ could not fare well at the box office. But over the years, it went on to attain a cult status. It was an extremely stylishly shot Kochi-based gangster flick that marked the arrival of a bunch of youngsters who later went on to carve a niche for themselves in the industry.

Amal Neerad’s slick direction, Sameer Thahir’s stylized visuals, Unni R’s dynamic one-liners and Gopi Sunder’s pulsating background score together made the film a memorable one. Along with all the technical brilliance, there was also Mammootty with his towering screen presence. It is no secret that Bilal, till date, remains one of his most popular characters among the fans.

‘Bilal’ already has sky-high hype, so it will be a tough task for Amal Neerad and team to meet the expectations. Official announcement with details regarding the cast, crew and when shoot begins are expected to be made soon.

Anwar Rasheed’s highly anticipated film ‘Trance’ is all set for release on February 14 as a Valentine’s Day special. With hardly a month left the film to storm screens, the makers have started their social media promotions. The first single from the film has just been released online. The track titled ‘Raat’ features Nazriya. It is sung by Bollywood composer Sneha Khanwalkar, Neha Nair and composed by Jackson Vijayan. Lyrics is penned by Vinayak Sasikumar (Malayalam) and Kamal Kartik (Hindi).

Amidst huge expectations, Mammootty’s ‘Shylock’ hit screens last day (January 23). Going by the initial response, the film has managed to lived up to the hype. Fans seem to have lapped up the film as a whopping 100 + shows got added across various centres in Kerala. If reports are to be believed, the film has played around 920 shows on the opening day in the state.

‘Shylock’ is already the biggest opener of 2020 in Malayalam. Bookings for weekend shows are also getting filled in large numbers. With the support of family and neutral audience, the film is most likely to become one of the biggest hits in recent years for Mammootty.

‘Shylock’ is an out and out mass entertainer that has a terrific Mammootty at the helm of things. His energy, charisma and his quirky mannerisms seems to be the talking point of the film. In what is otherwise an usual storyline, it is Mammootty who holds things together

‘Shylock’ is directed by Ajai Vasudev of ‘Rajadhiraja’ and ‘Masterpiece’ fame. Bibin Mohan and Aneesh Hameed have jointly scripted the film. Along with Mammootty, the film also veteran Tamil actor Raj Kiran in a prominent role. There is a big supporting cast comprising of actors like Meena, Bibin George, Baiju, John Kaippallil Siddique, Kalabhavan Shajohn, Anson Paul, Arthana Binu, John Vijay, Arjun Nandakumar and Hareesh Kanaran.

Kurup final schedule gets rolling in Mangalore

The third and final schedule of Dulquer Salmaan’s ‘Kurup’ kick-started last day in Mangalore. Srinath Rajendran is directing the film, which is based on the life of Kerala’s infamous criminal, Sukumara Kurup. The team has already shot in Kerala, various parts of North India and in Dubai.

Dulquer himself is producing the film under his banner, Wayfarer Films. M Star Entertainments is also associated in the production. Along with Dulquer, the cast of ‘Kurup’ also includes some other big names like Indrajith Sukumaran, Tovino Thomas, Sunny Wayne, Sobhita Dhulipala and Shine Tom Chacko.

Jithin K Jose has written the story and screenplay is penned jointly by KS Aravind and Daniel Sayooj Nair. On the technical front, Nimish Ravi of ‘Luca’ fame is wielding the camera and Sushin Shyam handles the music department. It is learnt that the makers are eyeing to release the film during the Eid season. An official confirmation is expected to be made soon after the completion of shoot.
