Shabareesh Varma to turn a director this year!

The trend of actors turning filmmakers continues in Malayalam film industry. Noted actor and lyricist Shabareesh Varma is the latest to join the club as he is gearing up to make his directorial debut this year. He is also scripting the film, which is most likely to begin by mid-2020. Shabareesh himself revealed this in a recent interview with us.

Shabareesh made his acting debut with Alphonse Puthren’s Tamil-Malayalam ‘Neram’. He then played a full length role in ‘Premam’, where he played one of the sidekicks of lead actor, Nivin Pauly. He later starred in films like ‘Naam’, ‘Ladoo’ and ‘Thanneer Mathan Dhinangal’. His next release is ‘Mariyam Vannu Vilakkoothi’ which saw him reunite with the ‘Premam’ gang of actors — stars Siju Wilson, Krishna Shankar and Althaf Salim.

Meanwhile, there are talks within the industry suggesting that Nivin Pauly will be playing the lead in Shabareesh’s directorial debut but an official confirmation is still awaited. Considering the fact that they both have been friends since a long time, chances are high that such a project materialises.

The trailer of Prithviraj-Biju Menon starrer ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ just got released online. Almost the whole of Malayalam film industry got together to release the trailer. It was shared by Fahadh Faasil, Nivin Pauly, Tovino Thomas, Unni Mukundan, Kunchacko Boban, Murali Gopy, Asif Ali, Manju Warrier, Antony Varghese, Miya George, Honey Rose, Jayaram and many others through their respective social media handles.

“Ayyppanum Koshiyum’ has a positive buzz among the audience. Sachi is directing the film that has Prithviraj Sukumaran and Biju Menon in the titular roles. The trio had earlier teamed up for the superhit film ‘Anarkali’.

‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ is centred around a conflict between a police constable and a retired solider over a legal issue. Biju Menon plays Ayappan Nair, a middle-aged police constable and Prithviraj essays the part of Koshy Kurian, a havildar who is retired from army after 16 years of service. Veteran director Ranjith, Anna Reshma Rajan, Siddique, Anu Mohan, Sabumon Abdusamad, Anil Nedumangad, Shaju Sreedhar and many others are part of the supporting cast.

The film is being produced by director Ranjith and PM Sasidharan under the banner of Gold Coin Motion Picture Company.

Mammootty’s highly anticipated film ‘Shylock’ is all set to hit screens on January 23. The film is having a worldwide release tomorrow amidst massive hype tomorrow. Just hours before the film storms the screens, the makers have released a mass number sung by actor Unni Mukundan. The track titled ‘Ektha Boss’ is composed, arranged and programmed by Prakash Alex. Linku Abraham has written the lyrics. The promo video is edited by Linto Kurian, a popular name in the Malayalam troll circles.

Mammootty fans have pinned huge expectations on ‘Shylock’ courtesy the impressive promos so far. According to the makers, it is an out and out mass entertainer that will appeal to the youth as well as the family audience. It is directed by Ajai Vasudev of ‘Rajadhiraja’ and ‘Masterpiece’ fame. Bibin Mohan and Aneesh Hameed have jointly scripted ‘Shylock’.

Along with Mammootty, the film also veteran Tamil actor Raj Kiran in a prominent role. There is a big supporting cast comprising of actors like Meena, Bibin George, Baiju, John Kaippallil Siddique, Kalabhavan Shajohn, Anson Paul, Arthana Binu, John Vijay, Arjun Nandakumar and Hareesh Kanaran. ‘Shylock’ also has a dubbed Tamil version which is titled as ‘Kuselan’. Actor Raj Kiran has penned the Tamil dialogues. Joby George of Goodwill Entertainment is producing the film.

As ‘Varane Avashyamund’ gets ready for release next month, the makers have shared a new song online. The track titled ‘Mullapoove’ is sung by Haricharan and composed by Alphons Joseph. Santhosh Varma has penned the lyrics. Chorus part is sung by Sharath, Sherdhin, Manoj KJ, Anu Thomas, Judith and Ranjini. Sharing the song in his social media handle, Dulquer has written that this song is a little dedication to celebrate veteran Shobana’s comeback.

‘Varane Avashyamund’ is the directorial debut of Sathyan Anthikad’s son Anoop Sathyan. The film has Dulquer Salmaan, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Suresh Gopi and Shobhana in the lead roles. Anoop Sathyan himself has scripted the film, which is said to be a family entertainer. Urvashi, Lal Jose, Major Ravi, KPAC Lalitha and many others are also part of the film’s supporting cast.

In the technical department, ‘Uyare’ fame Mukesh Muraleedharan cranks the camera and Toby John is the editor. Besides playing the lead, Dulquer Salmaan is also producing the film under his banner of Wayfarer Films. M Star Entertainments is also associated with the production. Playhouse will be releasing the film in Kerala.

The popular ‘Aadu’ franchise will be back soon. After the blockbuster success of the second part in 2017, a third installment in the series was announced by the makers. Director Midhun Manuel Thomas, who is fresh from the success of ‘Anjaam Pathiraa’, has revealed his plans for ‘Aadu 3’ in a recent interview.

Midhun is planning to experiment something big with the third part. There are even talks about a 3D version, which will naturally attract the kids. Now that the franchise is a big hit, they have the liberty to push the film to a bigger scale. The director believes that if they can pull it off, it will be a milestone in Malayalam cinema. Earlier, producer Vijay Babu had said that they are hoping to release the film for Onam 2020 but an official statement regarding when shoot begins is still awaited.

‘Aadu 3’ will see Jayasurya back as Shaji Pappan. Sunny Wayne, Vinayakan, Saiju Kurup, Dharmajan, Vijay Babu, Indrans, Bhagath Manuel and Sudhi Koppa are all likely to reprise their roles from the earlier two parts.

Dhanush is currently on a high after delivering back to back hits with ‘Asuran’ and ‘Pattas’. While ‘Asuran’ was both critically and commercially successful, ‘Pattas’ was a regular festive film that clicked with the common audience. The actor is now shooting for ‘Karnan’ directed by ‘Pariyerum Perumal’ fame Mari Selvaraj. He has also completed shooting for Karthik Subbaraj’s gangster thriller film, which is rumoured to be titled as ‘Suruli’.

After the completion of ‘Karnan’, Dhanush will be teaming up with director Ramkumar. The filmmaker’s previous two films — ‘Mundasupatti’ and ‘Ratchasan’ were both hits. They both belonged to two different genres — one a period comedy flick and the other, a crime thriller. With his third film, the director is attempting a fantasy action-adventure flick.

Earlier in an interview, Ramkumar had said that his film will have Dhanush in a very unique role that only an actor his calibre can pull off. The makers are planning to shoot for around six months for this film. It will be produced by Sathya Jyothi Films.

As reported earlier, after the success of ‘Nerkonda Paaravai’, the trio of Ajith, director H Vinoth and producer Boney Kapoor are teaming up for a new film titled ‘Valimai’. It is a cop action thriller, shoot for which is currently progressing. While names like Yami Gautham and Keerthy Suresh have been doing the rounds, Bollywood actress Huma Qureshi seems to have bagged the opportunity.

Huma made her Tamil debut couple of years back with superstar Rajinikanth’s ‘Kaala’. Interestingly, the actress was supposed to make her acting debut with Ajith’s 2012 film ‘Billa 2’. However, the long delay in starting the shoot forced Huma to leave the project and move on to her other commitments. Now, 8 years after, the talented actress has got the opportunity to share screen space with Ajith once again. Details about her character in the film are not yet known. An official word regarding the entire cast in ‘Valimai’ is still awaited.

Kuttavum Shikshayum: Sunny Wayne and Asif Ali team up for Rajeev Ravi’s cop thriller

Asif Ali and Sunny Wayne are coming together for a new film to be directed by Rajeev Ravi. Titled as ‘Kuttavum Shikshayum’, the film is a police thriller that is based on a real life incident. Sibi Thomas, a real life policeman, who had also played an important role of a cop in ‘Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum’, is penning this film along with Sreejith Divakaran.

‘Kuttavum Shikshayum’ is based on a crime investigation that Sibi Thomas had lead few years back. It was a well-planned jewellery robbery that occurred in Kasargod. The case took the police force from Kerala to a dreaded village in Rajasthan where they risked their lives to nab the criminals.

Asif Ali will be seen playing a police officer’s role in the film. Details regarding Sunny Wayne’s role are not yet known. It is worth a mention that the two actors had earlier worked together in ‘Mosayile Kuthira Meenukal’. Sunny had also worked with Rajeev Ravi in ‘Annayum Rasoolum’.

‘Kuttavum Shikshayum’ also has Alencier Ley Lopez, Sharafudheen and Senthil Krishna in important roles. Suresh Rajan of ‘Thottappan’ fame has been assigned as the cinematographer and National award winner B Ajithkumar will be handling the edits. Arun Kumar VR will be producing the film. Shoot is scheduled to begin on January 26.
