Indrajith Sukumaran starrer Aaha wrapped up after 62 days of shoot

Indrajith Sukumaran’s new film ‘Aaha’ is a sports flick based on Kerala’s own sport, ‘tug of war’ aka ‘vadamvali’. Debutant Bibin Paul Samuel is editing and directing the film. After 62 days of shoot, the film got wrapped up last day. Director Bibin took to his social media handle to inform that they are entering the post-production phase. The director has written it was a challenging experience as the film was shot in over 84 locations with 148 technicians and around 6000 artists.

Tobit Chirayath has scripted the film, which is inspired from a famous team ‘Aaha Neeloor’ that had won a stunning 72 matches out of the 73 they played in the 2008 season. Along with Indrajith, the film also stars Amit Chakalakkal and Ashwin K Kumar in major roles. Santhy Balachandran of ‘Tharangam’ and ‘Jallikattu’ fame plays the female lead.

‘Aaha’ is being produced by Prem Abraham of Zsa Zsa Productions. The film has a relatively new set of names behind the camera. DOP Rahul Balachandran, music directors Sayanora Philip and Shiyad Kabeer (background score) comprise the core technical crew. The makers are eyeing an April release.

Leading production houses from other languages in talks for Anjaam Pathiraa remake rights

‘Anjaam Pathiraa’ has emerged as the first superhit of 2020 from Malayalam cinema. The film released on January 10 amidst less fanfare but it became hot in demand after the initial shows. Positive reviews started flooding in on social medias and audience thronged theatres in large numbers. The film is fast moving towards becoming one of the biggest blockbusters in lead actor Kunchacko Boban’s two-decade long career.

Meanwhile, leading production houses from other languages are in talks with ‘Anjaam Pathiraa’ team for the remake rights. Though the film is yet to be released in most centres there, preview shows are being arranged for these banners. Director Midhun Manuel Thomas himself revealed this in a recent interview. He also added that if given an opportunity to remake the film, he would be tweaking the script slightly and try to make it a more refined product.

‘Anjaam Pathiraa’ is a crime-investigation thriller centred around a series of brutal murders. Along with Kunchacko Boban, the film has a big supporting cast comprising of Remya Nambeesan, Sreenath Bhasi, Indrans, Unnimaya Prasad, Jinu Joseph and many others. The core technical team of cinematographer Shyju Khalid, editor Saiju Sreedhar and music director Sushin Shyam proved to be the film’s biggest strengths.

‘Anjaam Pathiraa’ has a storyline that will appeal to audience irrespective of the language and culture. So the film definitely has great potential to be remade in various languages. If a good team comes together, it is certain to reap success in any industry.

As ‘Marakkar Arabikadlinte Simham’ gears up for release in March, the makers have started sharing the character posters of all major actors in the film. Keerthy Suresh’s was the first to be released. Latest to come out is that of Arjun Sarja, who plays a character named Anandan. This is Arjun’s second outing in Malayalam after making his debut last year with ‘Jack and Daniel’.

‘Marakkar Arabikadalinte Simham’ is an epic film directed by Priyadarshan. It is based on the life of Kunjali Marakkar IV, played by Mohanlal. Pranav Mohanlal, Suniel Shetty, Manju Warrier, Ashok Selvan, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Prabhu, Mukesh, Suhasini Mani Ratnam, Fazil, Siddique, Baburaj, Nedumudi Venu, Hareesh Perady, Nandu, Innocent, Ganesh Kumar and Suresh Kumar. Several foreign actors are also acting in the film.

Aashirvad Cinemas, Confident Group and Moonshot Entertainment are jointly producing this mega budget film that is scheduled for a grand worldwide release on March 26.

It must be noted that, Asif Ali and Rohit had previously worked together twice in ‘Adventures of Omanakuttan’ and ‘Ibilis’. Both the films proved fruitful for Asif as an actor as the audience got to see him in unique roles rather than repeating the same old stuff.

According to director Rohit, his new film with Asif will be an intense romantic flick that youngsters can easily relate to. In his own words, it’s about what happens when two free souls fall in love and the film focuses on their success, dreams, passion and romance. Casting and other pre-production works are underway and the makers have planned to start shooting from June.

Big Brother grosses Rs 10.50 crores in 4 days!

Mohanlal starrer ‘Big Brother’ had hit screens across Kerala on January 16. After 4 days, the makers have announced that the film has crossed the Rs 10 crore mark. According to them, the film has grossed Rs 10.50 crores from its first four days of theatrical run.

‘Big Brother’ is written and directed by filmmaker Siddique. The film has Mohanlal playing a mysterious character named Sachidhnandan. He has a dark past with drug mafia where he was called Edwin Mosses. Mohanlal, Anoop Menon and ‘June’ fame Sarjano Khalid play siblings in the film.

Debutante Gadha, Honey Rose and Mirna Menon are the female leads. Honey Rose is paired with Anoop Menon. Going by the general response, ‘Big Brother’ has been received as a typical superstar film with all the commercial ingredients included in it. Bollywood actor Arbaaz Khan, Vishnu Unnikrishnan, Irshad, John Vijay, Tini Tom, Devan, Abu Salim, Janardhanan, Chemban Vinod Jose and many others are part of the film’s supporting cast.

Director Siddique, Jenso Jose, Philipose K Joseph, Manu Maliackal and Vaishak Rajan have jointly produced the film.

Rajeev Ravi’s cop thriller with Asif Ali titled as Kuttavum Shikshayum

Asif Ali’s new film with Rajeev Ravi has been titled as ‘Kuttavum Shikshayum’. Sibi Thomas, a real life policeman, who had also played an important role in ‘Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum’, is penning the screenplay along with Sreejith Divakaran. The film is inspired from a real life story that Sibi Thomas had narrated during a television chat show. It was about a well-planned jewellery robbery that occurred in Kasargod.

In the film, which has been planned as a thriller, Asif Ali will be playing the role of a cop. Sunny Wayne, Alencier Ley Lopez, Sharafudheen and Senthil Krishna are also part of the cast. Suresh Rajan of ‘Thottappan’ fame is the DOP and National award winner B Ajithkumar will be handling the edits.

Arun Kumar VR will be producing ‘Kuttavum Shikshayum’ under the banner of Film Roll productions. The film will be shot majorly in Kasgarod and Rajasthan. Shoot is scheduled to kick-start on Republic Day, which falls on January 26.

Two years back, during the success celebration event of ‘Aadu 2’, Vijay Babu of Friday Film House made a surprise announcement about the second part of Mammootty’s cult hit film ‘Kottayam Kunjachan’. Midhun Manuel Thomas was signed as the director. However, controversy soon struck as the original makers of ‘Kottayam Kunjachan’ made it clear that they had not sold the sequel rights for anyone and that the announcement was made without informing them.
Ever since then, there has been no further updates about the project.

After two years, director Midhun Manuel Thomas is now basking in the success of his thriller film, ‘Anjaam Pathiraa’. In a recent interview with The Cue, when asked about the status of ‘Kottayam Kunjachan 2’, Midhun hinted that the film has been dropped. He admitted that they failed to come up with a good storyline and when they finally landed on one, both him and Mammootty got busy with other projects. Midhun made it clear that he has moved ahead and has no plans to make the film.

‘Forensic’ has Tovino playing a medico legal advisor working in the Kerala police’s forensic science lab. Mamta Mohandas essays the female lead’s part as an IPS officer. ‘Bigil’ actress Reba Monica John, Saiju Kurup, Giju John, ‘Lilli’ fame Dhanesh Anand, Renji Panicker, Anwar Shereef, Anil Murali and many others are part of the supporting cast. DOP Akhil George, music director Jakes Bejoy and editor Shameer Muhammed form the main technical crew.

‘Forensic’ is being produced by Navis Xaviour and Siju Mathew under the banner of Juvis Productions and Raju Malliath’s Ragam Movies. The film is scheduled to hit screens in March.

Ajith’s new film ‘Valimai’ went on floors only recently. The team had a brief leg of shoot in Ramoji Rao Film City in Hyderabad. Written and directed by H Vinoth, ‘Valimai’ is touted to be an action thriller made on a huge budget. Ajith will be seen playing a cop in the film. It is heard that Prasanna has been roped in to play the antagonist. The team recently conducted his look test and he is expected to start shooting very soon. Notably, Prasanna has delivered highly impressive performances while playing negative roles in films like ‘Anjaathe’ and ‘Thiruttu Payale 2’.

‘Thala 60’ has been planned to be shot extensively in foreign countries. Bollywood actress Yami Gautham is said to be the front runner to essay the female lead’s part but a confirmation has not yet been made. An official word regarding the cast members is still awaited. Yuvan Shankar Raja will be composing the music and Nirav Shah will be handling the cinematography.

Ajay Devgn starts shooting for SS Rajamouli’s RRR

After delivering a blockbuster success with the period flick ‘Tanhaji’, Ajay Devgn has now started shooting for SS Rajamouli’s ‘RRR’. Tollywood’s young superstars Ram Charan and Jr NTR are playing the lead roles in the film. Ajay Devgn, who is making his South Indian debut, is said to be playing an extended cameo role.

According to the makers, the movie is a fictitious story that revolves around India’s freedom fighters, Alluri Sitarama Raju (Ram Charan) and Komaram Bheem (Jr NTR) who fought against the British Raj and the Nizam of Hyderabad, respectively. Set in the 1920s, the movies unveils both of them away from home (in Delhi) before they started fighting for the country.

SS Rajamouli is making the film on a massive canvas in various regional languages. Since it’s a multilingual, the movie has actors from various industries. Alia Bhatt will be seen as Ram Charan’s pair while Olivia Morris will play Jr NTR’s pair in the movie. Ray Stevenson and Alison Doody play the antagonists.

SS Rajamouli’s father KV Vijayendra Prasad, who usually pens stories for his films, has written the story for ‘RRR’ as well. Rajamouli has penned the screenplay and dialogues are by Sai Madhav Burra and Madhan Karky. Almost the same technical crew from ‘Baahubali’ has been retained, which includes cinematographer KK Senthil Kumar, editor Sreekar Prasad, music director MM Keeravani, production designer Sabu Cyril, VFX supervisor Srinivas Mohan and costume designer Rama Rajamouli.

RRR has been planned to be released in ten languages on July 30, 2020.
