Master does Rs 200 crore pre-release business!

The makers of Vijay’s Master have locked almost all the business deals three months prior to its release. The fact that they have closed all the business deals even before the release of a teaser or trailer says volumes about the expectations on the film. ‘Master’ is written and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, who is fresh from the blockbuster success of ‘Kaithi’. Along with Vijay, the film has a big star cast comprising of Vijay Sethupathi, Malavika Mohanan, Andrea Jeremiah, Arjun Das, Shanthanu Bhagyaraj and Gouri Kishan. The presence of such a star-studded is also one of the biggest factors that has heightened the expectations.

While 200 crore box office gross is still an unachievable milestone for many actors, the pre-release business of ‘Master’ including satellite, digital and audio rights have comfortably crossed the 200 crore mark. Vijay’s last release ‘Bigil’ was a huge success that fetched over Rs 300 crore. The film’s Tamil Nadu distribution rights were sold for a whopping Rs 83 rights. Though it reaped huge revenue, the distributors made only marginal profits or just managed to achieve break-even.

So this time for ‘Master’, Vijay has personally intervened to make sure that the distributors get a fair deal. Even though the film was offered over Rs 83 crore for rights, the makers decided to settle for an amount of Rs 68 cr (Rs 77 cr including GST). They have now sold the film directly to sub-distributors through Seven Screen Studios who are also the co-producers.

Likewise in Kerala, ‘Bigil’ was sold for Rs 6.50 crore and it earned a share of Rs 950 crore. Since there exists a release restriction for non-Malayalam films, the rights for ‘Master’ have been sold for a lesser amount of Rs. 6.25 crore. Listin Stephen’s Magic Frames will be releasing the film in Travancore region Fortune Cinemas have procured the rights in Malabar and Kochi region.

In the two Telugu-speaking states, ‘Master’ rights have been sold for Rs 9 crore to East Coast Productions. The same distributors acquired ‘Bigil’ for Rs 8 crore and earned a profit of Rs 10 crore. In Karnataka, ‘Bigil’ earned a profit Rs 10 crore with the rights sold for Rs 8.50 crore. Dheeraj Enterprises has procured the rights this time for Rs. 8.65 crore. All other rights have been sold except for Hindi dubbing and North India area rights which is expected to be sold around Rs 22-24 crore.

United India Exports and Malik Streams have bought the overseas rights for Rs. 29.50 crore. The distribution house is expected to further sell the rights to other sub-distributors and earn around Rs. 35-40 crore. They will be releasing the film in Sri Lanka, Canada, USA, Thailand, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia and Australia.

Taking into account the non-theatrical rights, Sony Music has acquired the audio rights of ‘Master’ for Rs 4.50 crore. Market leader Sun TV has bought the satellite rights for Rs 32 crore while Amazon Prime has bagged the digital streaming rights for Rs 22 crore, which is a new record for a Tamil film.

My Boss Tamil remake: Watch the trailer of Sandakari here!

Blockbuster Malayalam film ‘My Boss’ is getting remade in Tamil as ‘Sandakari’. Vemal and Shriya Saran are playing the lead roles essayed by Dileep and Mamta Mohandas in the original. R Madesh has penned the screenplay and directed the film. Jeyabalan Jeyakumar and Sharmila Mandre are producing the film under the banner of Boss Production Corporation.

From the trailer, ‘Sandakari’ looks like a faithful remake of ‘My Boss’, which was directed by Jeethu Joseph. The makers of Tamil version have opted for some changes to suit the sensibilities of their audience. While Sai Kumar played the father’s role, here it’s a brother, played by veteran Prabhu. Sathyan, Punnagai Poo Gheetha, KR Vijaya, Rekha, Dev Gill, Uma Padmanaban, Crane Manohar, Mahanathi Shankar and many others are part of the cast.

On the technical side, RB Gurudev is the cinematographer and music department is handled by Amrish. Editor Dinesh Ponraj, art director Iyyapan and stunt director Kannal Kannan are also part of the team.

After playing a criminologist in Anjaam Paathira, Kunchacko Boban as a civil police officer in his next!

Kunchacko Boban is currently on a high after the smashing success of his latest release ‘Anjaam Paathira’. The crime thriller directed by Midhun Manuel Thomas is turning out to be a huge hit at the Kerala box office. Critics and common audience alike have heaped praise on the film. It is turning out to be one of the biggest hits in Kunchacko Boban’s career.

Meanwhile, the actor has started shooting for his next, which is being directed by Martin Prakkat. He along with Joju George and Nimisha Sajayan play the lead roles in the film. Mammootty starrer Shylock censored with U/A certificate

Mammootty’s ‘Shylock’ has been censored with a U/A certificate. Now that the final hurdle is done with, the film is confirmed to hit screens on January 23. Fans have pinned huge expectations on the film courtesy the impressive teaser cuts. Ajai Vasudev of ‘Rajadhiraja’ and ‘Masterpiece’ fame is directing the film which is touted to be an action-packed mass entertainer.

Bibin Mohan and Aneesh Hameed have jointly scripted ‘Shylock’. Along with Mammootty, the film will have veteran Tamil actor Raj Kiran in a prominent role. There is a big supporting cast which comprises of actors like Meena, Bibin George, Baiju, Siddique, Kalabhavan Shajohn, Anson Paul, Arthana Binu, John Vijay, Arjun Nandakumar and Hareesh Kanaran.

‘Shylock’ also has a dubbed Tamil version which is titled as ‘Kuselan’. Raj Kiran has penned the Tamil dialogues. DOP Renadive, composer Gopi Sunder and editor Riyas K Badhar form the core technical crew. Joby George of Goodwill Entertainment is producing the film.

Medamasa: Watch this new romantic track from Al Mallu

A new song from Namitha Pramod starrer ‘Al Mallu’ got released last day. The romantic track is rendered by KS Harisankar and Shwetha Mohan. ‘Joseph’ fame Ranjin Raj has composed the song and lyrics is penned by BK Harinarayanan. Namitha and newcomer actor Faris Majeed feature in the song video.

‘Al Mallu’ is written and directed by Boban Samuel, who has previously helmed hit films like ‘Janapriyan’ and ‘Romans’. It is a female-centric film that revolves around the struggles faced by young Malayali woman employed in the Gulf region. The story is written jointly by Jaya Naduvathazhath and Dr Rajath R.

The film has a big supporting cast comprising of Miya George, Lal, Sheelu Abraham Midhun, Dharmajan Bolgatty, Reshmi Boban and several others. A bunch of newcomers are also part of the film. On the technical side, Vivek Menon has cranked the camera and Ranjin Raj is handling the music department. Deepu Joseph is editing the film.

‘Al Mallu’ is being produced by Sajils Majeed under the banner of Mehfil Productions.

Kuberan: Teaser of Shylock Tamil version released

Malayalam superstar Mammootty’s ‘Shylock’ is all set to hit screens on January 23 amidst high expectations. The film also has a dubbed Tamil version titled as ‘Kuberan’. Today, on the holy occasion of Pongal, the teaser of ‘Kuberan’ has been released online.

Veteran Tamil actor Raj Kiran is playing a crucial role in the film. The Tamil teaser is centred around him. He has also penned the Tamil version’s dialogues and song lyrics. Mammootty appears in two different looks in this teaser.

‘Shylock’ is directed by Ajai Vasudev and Joby George of Goodwill Entertainment is producing the film. Scripted jointly by Bibin Mohan and Aneesh Hameed, the film is touted to be a complete mass entertainer. Cinematographer Renadive, composer Gopi Sunder and editor Riyas K Badhar form the core technical crew.

Thala Therichoru Aalkkoottam: First single from Mariyam Vannu Vilakkoodhi out

After the teaser and trailer release, the makers of ‘Mariyam Vannu Vilakkoodhi’ have shared the first single online. The track titled ‘Thala Therichoru Aalkkoottam’ is sung by Imbachi of Street Academics. Lyrics is penned by Sandhoop Narayanan, while Imbachi has written the rap portions. Debutant duo Wazim-Murali have composed the song.

‘Mariyam Vannu Vilakkoodhi’ is written and directed by debutant Jenith Kachappilly. The film stars the ‘Premam’ gang of Siju Wilson, Krishna Shankar, Althaf Salim and Shabareesh Varma in the lead roles.’Ithihasa’ fame Rajesh Augustine is producing the film in association with Captain Bipin Rajendran, Sunil Kumar Vakeel and Srijith Babu.

‘Mariyam Vannu Vilakoodhi’ is a complete fun entertainer, the story of which happens over a single night when a group of friends get together. The cast also includes Sethulakshmi, Basil Joseph, Sidhartha Siva, Shiyas, Baiju Santhosh and a forgein actress named Irene Mihalkovich. As announced by the makers, the film will be hitting screens on January 31.

Driving Licence becomes the third biggest hit in Prithviraj’s career

Prithviraj starrer ‘Driving Licence’ is set to cross its first month of theatrical run soon. The film hit screens on December 20 amidst a slew of other Christmas releases but still emerged successfully as a true box office winner. As per trade experts, it is now the third biggest hit in Prithviraj’s career after ‘Ennu Ninte Moideen’ and ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’. The makers are yet to release the box office figures officially. Prithviraj Productions and Listin Stephen’s Magic Frames have jointly produced the film.

‘Driving Licence’ is directed by Lal Jr and scripted by Sachy. Critics rated the film as a well-made commercial entertainer and unanimously praised the performance of its two lead actors – Prithviraj and Suraj Venjaramoodu. The film has a very interesting storyline centred around a film star and his ardent fan, who is a motor vehicle inspector. As things turn out, the two lock horns and they constantly try to outsmart each other. It is their clash of ego and power abuse that take the film forward.

Since the film has an universal plot, several top stars from other languages are in talks to acquire the remake rights.

Confirmed: Dulquer Salmaan and Kajal Aggarwal to act together for the first time!

Kajal Aggarwal recently visited internationally acclaimed artists Subramanian Gopalsamy and Gnanadickam Ponnusamy’s art exhibition named ‘Divine Intervention’ in Mumbai. While interacting with the media present there she revealed that she would be acting with Malayali heartthrob Dulquer Salmaan in a Tamil film very soon. However, the actress refused to divulge more details regarding the project.

Kajal is currently working on the prestigious Shankar-Kamal Haasan film, ‘Indian 2’.
