Gautham Menon and Vishnu Vishal team up for FIR

Director Gautham Vasudev Menon has of late been open to take up acting commitments. Over the last couple of years, he has played key roles in films like ‘Goli Soda 2’, ‘Kannum Kannum Kollaiyadithaal’ and ‘Trance’. He will be next seen in the Vishnu Vishal starrer ‘FIR’. Manu Anand, a former assistant of Gautham Menon, is helming the film.

‘FIR’ marks Vishnu Vishal comeback after the blockbuster success of ‘Ratchasan’. He was out of the action for almost six months after getting injured. He started shooting for ‘FIR’ only recently. The actor welcomed Gautham Menon to the team by tweeting,

‘FIR’ is touted to said to be about a Muslim youngster whose life is derailed into confusion as he gets caught up in a series of unfortuante incidents. The film also stars Manjima Mohan, Raiza Wilson and ‘Bigil’ fame Reba Monica John in key roles.

VK Prakash’s daughter Kavya Prakash to adapt Unni R’s Vaanku!

Ace filmmaker VK Prakash’s daughter Kavya Prakash is set to make her debut as a filmmaker. For her maiden feature, she is adapting ‘Vaanku’, a popular short story written by Unni R. The film was officially announced last day by releasing the title poster. Interestingly, the poster features a woman performing Namaz and the title font resembles the Indian flag colour. Details regarding the cast members have not yet been announced.

Few months back, there was a controversy regarding ‘Vaanku’ when Rafeeq Mangalassery, a playwright adapted a 30-minute play titled ‘Kithab’ after being inspired by Unni R’s story. It was about a girl who wanted to become a muezzin like her father and call the azan against the will of the religious fundamentalists. Though the play stood first in the Kozhikode revenue district school youth festival, the students who acted in it were not allowed to stage it again as SDPI members staged protest citing that it hurt their religious sentiments. Unni R also came out against Rafeeq alleging that the story was interpreted out of context without his permission.

Considering all these back stories, all eyes will be on how Kavya Prakash adapts the film. Shabna Muhammed has penned the adpated screenplay and dialogues. Major Ravi’s son Arjun Ravi is the DOP and music will be composed by veteran Ouseppachan. 7J Films and Shimoga Creations are presenting the film in association with Trends Ad Filmmakers Pvt Ltd.

Jude Anthany Joseph’s next titled as Detective Prabhakaran

We had earlier reported about director Jude Anthany Joseph adapting one of Indugopan’s works to big screen. It has now been officially announced that the new film is based on the detective Prabhakaran series. The film has been titled as ‘Detective Prabhakaran’. Jude has shared the title poster in his official social media handle.

Along with that, he also welcomed suggestions from his followers regarding who should play the lead role of Prabhakaran. From the comments section, popular opinion is that Dileep will be an ideal choice to play the role. Let’s see how things turn out. PK Muralidharan and Santha Murali will be producing the movie under the banner of Anantha Vision.

Director Jude has another film in the making. Titled ‘2403 ft’, it is an ambitious film based on the devastating floods of 2018. Shoot commenced couple of months back and the team has completed a schedule. Other details regarding when the remaining portions will be shot are not yet known.

Indrajith to star in Padmarajan biopic!

For the last few days, there have been rumours about Prithviraj Sukumaran starring in the biopic of legendary filmmaker Padmarajan. Such talks first started when actor Hareesh Peradi shared a photo of Prithviraj and Padmarajan in his social media handle and pointedly the similarity in their looks. He also added that if ever a biopic on Padmarajan is made, Prithviraj would be an ideal choice.

However, we now hear that it is now Prithviraj but his elder brother Indrajith Sukumaran who would be starring in the film. Pre-production works for the same have been underway for some time now. Debutant director Ansar, a former assistant of Rajesh Pillai, will be helming the film. Arun S Nair, also a debutant, is scripting the film. Arun Narayan Productions will be funding it. An official announcement is expected to be made shortly.

Padmarajan is an author, screenwriter and an award-winning filmmaker. He is widely regarded as the founder of a new school of film making in Malayalam cinema. He was active predominately in the 80s when he made groundbreaking films that were widely received while also critically acclaimed. He passed away at the age of 45 in 1991.

Vikram’s upcoming mega budget film titled as Cobra

The title and motion poster of Vikram’s next film with Ajay Gnanamuthu got shared recently by the makers. The film which was tentatively titled as ‘Chiyaan Vikram 58’ has now officially been titled ‘Cobra’. The motion poster has two cobra snakes and a king’s crown as well. The video was trending on YouTube at the number 1 position. 7 Screen Studio is producing this big budget film that is being shot across various countries. Maestro AR Rahman is composing music for the film.

‘Cobra’ is said to be a thriller in which Vikram will be appearing in multiple looks. Director Ajay Gnanamuthu has previously helmed the horror flick ‘Demonte Colony’ and crime-thriller ‘Imaikka Nodigal’, both of which were hits. So his new film with Vikram has high expectations among fans.

Former cricketer Irfan Pathan is making his acting debut with ‘Cobra’. Former Miss Supranational, Srinidhi Shetty, well known as the heroine in the Kannada blockbuster ‘KGF’, is the female lead. Malayalam actor Shane Nigam has also been approached to play an important role in the film, but it is not yet known if the youngster has signed the dotted lines.

Shine Tom Chacko joins team Velleppam

‘Velleppam’ is an upcoming entertainer starring ‘Pathinettam Padi’ fame Akshay Radhakrishnan and ‘Oru Adaar Love’ fame Noorin Shereef in the lead roles. Debutant Praveen Raj Pookkadan is directing the film, shoot for which is currently underway in Thrissur. Roma Asrani, who was been away from films for over two years, is making her comeback with this film. Latest to join the cast is Shine Tom Chacko.

Shine, who had an excellent 2019 with his performances in films like ‘Ishq’ and ‘Unda’ getting appreciation, will be looking to continue the good run. In ‘Velleppam’, he will be seen essaying a brief but a very crucial role.

Newcomer Jeevan Lal has scripted ‘Velleppam’, which is said to be a fun rom-com with fantasy elements. Roma will be seen in the role of Akshay Radhakrishnan’s sister. The cast also includes ‘Thaneer Mathan Dhinangal’ fame Vaishak Rajan, ‘June’ fame Fahim Safar, debutant Sanif and many others.

On the technical front, the film has Shihab Ongallur as the DOP, Shameer Muhammed as the editor and Leela Girish Kuttan of ‘Poomaram’ and ‘Thottappan’ fame as the music director. The film is being produced by Jos Chakkalakal under the banner of Chakkalakal Films.

John Paul George’s next with Kunchako Boban titled as Mariam Tailors

Promising young filmmaker John Paul George, known for his films ‘Guppy’ and ‘Ambili’ is set to team up with Kunchacko Boban next. The film has been titled as ‘Mariam Tailors’. The official announcement was made on Christmas day by releasing the title poster. Shoot is expected to begin early next year and Central Pictures will be releasing the film in Kerala.

John Paul George’s debut film ‘Guppy’ was a critically acclaimed one that got a wide reach after its online release. Though expectations were high on his second film ‘Ambili’ starring Soubin Shahir, it failed to satisfy the majority. The director is expected to come up with a wholesome entertainer this time. With Kunchacko Boban as the lead, the film is certain to appeal to the family audience.

‘Mariam Tailors’ is the star’s fourth film with Ashiq Usman after ‘Shajahanum Pareekuttiyum’, ‘Varnyathil Aashanka’, ‘Allu Ramendran’ and the upcoming thriller film ‘Anjaam Pathira’.

Jayasurya to play a priest in Aposthalan!

A new project of Jayasurya was announced recently on Christmas day. Titled as ‘Aposthalan’, the film will be directed by KS Bava. It is being produced by Arun Narayan Productions. The film’s first look poster was shared by fellow stars Prithviraj Sukumaran, Indrajith Sukumaran, Tovino Thomas, Kunchacko Boban and Asif Ali.

‘Aposthalan’ is a big budget film in which Jayasurya will be seen playing the role of a priest. The actor in his Facebook page has written that ‘Aposthalan’ is one of those films that he is eagerly looking forward to work in. He also hinted that he will be a playing challenging character and thanked Almighty and the makers for choosing him. After the first schedule in February, he will be going through a physical transformation as well.

‘Aposthalan’ is scripted by director Bava and Anwar Hussain. Cinematographer Roby Varghese Raj, composers Gopi Sunder and Vinu Thomas and art director Gokul Das are part of the technical crew. Shoot is planned to begin by the end of February. The makers have decided to shoot crucial portions of the film in foreign locations like Morocco and Vatican.

Veteran Rahman has penned a lovely note on his Facebook page thanking his colleagues Raadhika and Sarath Kumar for hosting an amazing Christmas bash. Interestingly, Rahman had no plans to attend the party but as he and his family could not get a reservation at any hotels, he ended up being at Rahman’s place. He described it as one of the best Christmas parties he has ever been to.

“ Sharathkumar & Radhika were my Santa Claus.
Rushda was upset cuz I didn’t make any reservations or plans as she was eagerly looking forward to a Christmas lunch out. As she was too stressed up from work. I took off from work and decided taking them to any random eatery. Sadly all places were fully booked n nothing available to our liking. As Rushda eats only chicken , youngest one is a fishterian only and I was thinking of turkey for very long . All 3 likes were different to find together ?. Driving around and hunting for places , In the desperate situation of dialing hotels I remembered Radhika for an address she had once mentioned of a Resturant. Phone rang and she answered these words only “ hello , hi da Rashin ?, you bloody come home , we have turkey , chicken and fish”. That’s it. (She hung the phone) I dint think twice, though feeling so bloody embarrassed. Reached Her place and saw this small gathering at their backyard. When we saw the spread , we forgot our manners and dived inn as dogs and cats. Uff ? My mouth still waters today thinking of all that food . There was Turkey , chicken, bake dish, fish, crabs, prawns, and many more. the Christmas cake , Uff ? u got to taste it to believe it. Ate our hearts full. The first look poster of Prithviraj-Biju Menon starrer ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ was released recently on the occasion of Christmas. Both the lead actors feature in the poster. The film is written and directed by Sachy, whose debut film ‘Anarkali’ also had the same two lead actors. It is produced by director Ranjith and his friend PM Sasidharan under the banner of Gold Coin Motion Picture Company.

‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ (AK) comes right after ‘Driving Licence’ (DL), which was also scripted by Sachy. Similar to ‘DL’, this one is also centered around the clash between the two lead characters. While it was between a film star and his fan in ‘Driving Licence’, in ‘AK’ it is between a police constable and a retired solider over a legal issue.

Biju Menon plays Ayappan Nair, a middle-aged police constable posted in Attapadi and Prithviraj essays the part of Koshy Kurian, a havildar who is retired from army after 16 years of service. The story revolves around the battle of egoes between the two men. Ranjith essays the part of Prithviraj’s father. Anna Reshma Rajan of ‘Angamaly Diaries’ fame, Siddique, Anu Mohan, Sabumon Abdusamad, Anil Nedumangad, Shaju Sreedhar and many others are part of the supporting cast.

Sudeep Elamon of ‘Pathinettam Padi’ and ‘Finals’ fame is the cinematographer and Jakes Bejoy has been signed as the composer. Veteran Ranjan Pramod is the editor.
