Gautham Menon plans to make a musical love story with Suriya!

Director Gautham Menon is finally coming out of his financial issues and his shelved films are getting back on track. The long delayed ‘Enai Nokki Paayum Thotta’ hit screens last Friday and has opened to mixed response from the viewers. Meanwhile, the filmmaker is also busy discussing multiple other projects. He recently pitched a storyline to Suriya and it sounds very interesting.

Gautham Menon himself revealed this in a recent television interview. It is about two musicians, Kamal and Kadhambari, who both meet in London. How they fall in love out of their common taste for music forms the baseline of the plot. Suriya is yet to give his nod but the director is hopeful that the film will come out well if the star gets on board.

Suriya and Menon have previously worked together in ‘Kaakha Kaakha’ and ‘Vaaranam Aayiram’, both of which were milestone films in their respective careers. They were also supposed to work together in ‘Dhruva Natchathiram’, a spy thriller, but Suriya opted out due to creative differences. Menon later revived the project with Vikram only to be stalled multiple times. The team still has around 60 more days of shoot left.

Gautham Menon currently is on a three-film deal with Vels International, a production house headed by Dr Ishaki K Ganesh. He is presently working on ‘Joshua Imai Pol Naan Kaakka’, an action-thriller that has ‘Puppy’ fame Varun in the lead. A female-centric film with Anushka Shetty is also in the pipeline.

Joju George replaces Biju Menon in Malik

‘Take Off’, director Mahesh Narayanan is currently working on ‘Malik’, a big-scale film that has Fahadh Faasil in the lead. Anto Joseph Film Company is producing the film, which is being made on a huge budget of around Rs 25 crores. Shoot is currently under progress. During its official announcement, the film’s cast also had Biju Menon Nimisha Sajayan, Dileesh Pothan, Vinay Forrt and yesteryear actress Jalaja in major roles.

However, Biju Menon has opted out of the film due to date issues. He has been replaced by the hot and happening Joju George. After the success of ‘Joseph’ and ‘Porinju Mariam Jose’, Joju is much in demand and has multiple projects lined up. His character in ‘Malik’ is expected to be a prominent, performance-oriented one.

Director Mahesh himself has scripted ‘Malik’. It is based on a real-life incident that occurred few years back in Kerala. The film is conceived as a political thriller that is centred around a sensitive coastal area where there was a resistance against the constant threat of displacement of a minority community. The focus will be on the evolution of the coastal area from the 60s to present age.

Besides directing and scripting, Mahesh Narayanan is also editing the film. Sanu John Varughese is the DOP, Sushin Shyam, the composer and sound department will be handled by Vishnu Govind and Sree Sankar. National award winner Santosh Raman is in charge of the production design. The makers are eyeing an April release next year.

Mohanlal’s upcoming film with veteran director Siddique is eagerly awaited by the fans. The recently released motion poster in which the the star was seen holding a gun gave hints of an action-packed entertainer. Tiny Tom, who has played a crucial role in the film believes that ‘Big Brother’ will be a proper entertainer with ample dose of action and humour. Though Tini has worked with Mohanlal in films like ‘Spirit’, ‘Loham’ and ‘Drama’, this is the first time he is playing a full fledged role alongside the superstar and Tiny is highly excited about it.

Mohanlal, Anoop Menon and ‘June’ fame Sarjano Khalid will be seen as siblings in ‘Big Brother’. Bollywood actor Arbaaz Khan is making his Malayalam debut with this film. He is playing a police officer’s character with negative shades. Honey Rose, Vishnu Unnikrishnan, Siddique, Janardhanan, Mirna Menon, Gadha, Shilpa Ajayan, Satna Titus and Chemban Vinod Jose are also part of the supporting cast. The film has cinematography handled by Jithu Damodar and music by Deepak Dev.

‘Big Brother’ is jointly produced by director Siddique, Jenso Jose, Philipose K Joseph, Manu Maliackal and Vaishak Rajan. The film was initially planned as a Christmas release but got postponed due to delay in wrapping up the shoot. It is now slated to hit screens by the end of January.

Sajan Bakery Since 1962: Aju Varghese’s maiden film as a scenarist starts rolling!

We were among the first to report about Aju Varghese turning a script writer. Arun Chandu is directing the film, which has been film titled as ‘Sajan Bakery Since 1962’. Arun and Aju have jointly penned the script. Shoot for the film commenced today in Ranni. According to Aju, it is a small scale fun film inspired from some real-life incidents that he has seen from his childhood.

Aju himself plays the lead role and the cast also includes Lena, ‘Kumabalangi Nights’ fame Grace Antony, Ranjitha Menon, Ganesh Kumar, Anand Manmadhan and Jaffer Idukki. Several newcomers are also part of the film. On the technical front, Prashnath Pillai has been trusted as the music director and Aravind Manmadhan, who won the Kerala State Award last year, will be handling the edits.

Funtastic Films headed by Dhyan Sreenivasan and Vishak Subramaniam is producing the film jointly with Aneesh Mohan of M Star Communications.

Lal to play a warrior in Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan

Ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam’s dream project ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ is set to begin shortly. Casting and other pre-production works are nearing completion. The director’s own banner Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions are collaborating for this mega budget film’s production. The cast includes top several top stars from Indian cinema including Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Aishwarya Rai, Keerthy Suresh and Trisha.

From Malayalam film industry, Jayaram and Lal are part of the cast. The latter will be playing an aged warrior’s role in the film. For that, he is currently undergoing training in horse riding. Lal himself revealed this in a recent interview. He also added that, Mani Ratnam is the only person in his two decade-long career to whom he has asked for a chance. Lal was earlier offered a role in the director’s 2013 film, ‘Kadal’ but he could not do it in then due to other commitments.

Lal is a well known face outside Kerala as well. He recently played a significant role in the multilingual Prabhas starrer ‘Saaho’. He is also part of the upcoming Dhanush film which will be directed by ‘Pariyerum Perumal’ fame Mari Selvaraj. In Tamil, he also has films coming up with Karthi and Vikram Prabhu.

As reported by us earlier, an MX player original web series is being made based on the life of late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. The series titled as ‘Queen’ has Ramya Krishnan playing Jayalalithaa’s part and Anikha Surendran of ‘Yennai Arindhaal’ fame playing her younger self. The makers released the teaser online just a while back. Trailer will be out on December 5.

‘Queen’ is being directed by two directors – Gautham Vasudev Menon and Prasath Murugesan of ‘Kidaari’ fame. GVM has shot the portions featuring Ramya Krishnan and Murugesan has shot the childhood portions with Anikha Surendran. Malayali actor Indrajith Sukumaran has done MGR’s role in the series. Actor Vamsi Krishna, known for playing negative roles in movies like ‘Thani Oruvan’ and ‘Thadayara Thaakka’ plays the character of Sobhan Babu.

Reshma Ghatala, an associate of Gautham Menon has penned the series. It will be releasing in four regional Indian languages – Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Bengali. is expected to start streaming very soon.

Murali Gopy and Indrajith are playing the lead roles in an upcoming film titled ‘Thakkol’. Debutant Kiron Prabhakar is directing the film and is produced by veteran filmmaker Shaji Kailas. Its official trailer got released online last day. Prithviraj shared the trailer through his Facebook page.

From the trailer, ‘Thakkol’ looks like a story centred around a priest and his assistant. According to director Kiron, who has also scripted the film, it is a mix genre attempt which deals with human psyche. The movie will have humour as well as thrilling elements in its narrative. Murali Gopy and Indrajith have equal prominence in the film. They have previously.worked together ‘Ee Adutha Kaalath’, ‘Left Right Left’, ‘Kaanchi’, ‘Vedivazhipadu’ and ‘Tiyaan’.

‘Thakkol’ has some renowned names in the technical side. Osacr winner Resul Pookkutty handles the sound design while veteran M Jayachandran is in charge of the music department. The film is scheduled to hit screens on December 6.

Dileep has some promising films coming up and one among then is ‘Keshu Ee Veedinte Nadhan’. His long time friend Nadhirshah will be directing it. National award winner Sajeev Pazhoor is scripting the film, which is said to be a family drama. Shoot is scheduled to begin shortly.

Writer Sajeev Pazhoor made his debut by co-scripting the Jayaram starrer ‘Swapanam’ along with Harikrishnan. ‘Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum’ was his first feature film as an independent scenarist. It got him widespread appreciation and also won him awards at the State and National level. He last scripted the Biju Menon film, ‘Sathyam Paranjal Vishwasikkuvo’.

Sajeev Pazhoor teaming up with Dileep and Nadhirshah has raised the expectations for ‘Keshu Ee Veedinte Nathan’. Reportedly, the film has Dileep in a very challenging role of a 60-year-old. Urvashi is said to be playing the female lead in the film. More details are expected to be revealed shortly.

Vijay’s next with director Lokesh Kanagaraj is one of the most hyped Tamil films in recent years. Apart from the fact that Vijay is teaming up with a two-film old young filmmaker, it is also the dream cast that raised the expectations. Vijay Sethupathi, ‘Angamaly Diaries’ fame Antony Varghese, Andrea Jeremiah, Shanthanu and Malavika Mohanan were originally announced to be part of the cast.

However, Antony Varghese has now opted out of the project due to date issues. He has been replaced by Arjun Das of ‘Kaithi’ fame. Antony is a self-confessed huge fan of Vijay and was very eager to act alongside him. However, some of his early commitments meant that he would not be able to take part in the upcoming schedule of ‘Thalapathy 64’. He was supposed to play a negative role along with Vijay Sethupathi in the film.

Antony’s replacement Arjun Das had impressed one and all with his stellar performance in ‘Kaithi’, also directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. Arjun’s menacing act as the villain, Anbu, and his powerful voice was much talked about. Starring alongside top stars like Vijay and Vijay Sethupathi will a huge booster for Arjun at such an early stage in his career.

‘Thalapathy 64’ team recently wrapped up the schedule in New Delhi and is next moving to Shimoga, Karnataka. They are planning to shoot there for over a month from December 1 to January 19. Vijay Sethupathi, Arjun and Andrea Jeremiah, who were not part of the first two schedules, will be joining the team soon. The makers have planned to shoot some riveting action sequences.

The trailer of Manju Warrier’s new film ‘Prathi Poovankozhi’ has been released online. Dulquer Salmaan shared then trailer through his official social media handle and also wished the luck. Rosshan Andrrews is directing the film and is scripted by Unni R. The trailer looks super promising and appears to be a thriller. The film has Manju Warrier and Ansuree as sales girls working in a textile shop.

‘Prathi Poovankozhi’ is Manju Warrier’s second film with Rosshan Andrrews. Her comeback film ‘How Old Are You’ was also helmed by him. Rosshan Andrrews is also making his acting debut with this film. He is playing a negative character named Antappan. ‘Kumbalangi Nights’ fame Grace Antony, Saiju Kurup, Alencier Ley Lopez and ‘Marimayam’ Sreekumar are also part of the cast.
