Roma joins Akshay Radhakrishnan and Noorin Shereef in Velleppam!

‘Pathinettam Padi’ fame Akshay Radhakrishnan and ‘Oru Adaar Love’ fame Noorin Shereef are playing the leads in a new film titled ‘Velleppam’. Debutant Praveen Raj Pookkadan is directing the film, shoot for which is currently underway in Thrissur. Latest to join the cast is Roma Asrani. The ‘Notebook’ actress has been away from films for over two years now. She was last seen in the Jayaram starrer ‘Sathya’.

In ‘Velleppam’, Roma will be seen playing a very prominent character as Akshay Radhakrishnan’s sister. The cast also includes ‘Thaneer Mathan Dhinangal’ fame Vaishak Rajan, ‘June’ fame Fahim Safar, debutant Sanif and many others. A leading young star is also expected to be part of the film.

Newcomer Jeevan Lal has scripted ‘Velleppam’, which is said to be a fun rom-com with fantasy elements. On the technical front, the film has Shihab Ongallur as the DOP, Shameer Muhammed as the editor and Leela Girish Kuttan of ‘Poomaram’ and ‘Thottappan’ fame as the music director. The film is being produced by Jos Chakkalakal under the banner of Chakkalakal Films.

Doctor: Sivakarthikeyan’s next is with Kolamavu Kokila director Nelson

Sivakarthikeyan has announced that he would be teaming up with his close friend Nelson Dilipkumar for a new film titled ‘Doctor’. The announcement was made with a teaser video accompanied by a rocking score composed by the young sensation Anirudh Ravichander. Sivakarthikeyan’s own production house is producing the film in association with KJR Studios.

The actor made the announcement through his Twitter handle by tweeting,

Very happy to share that my next film will be with my dearmost friends @Nelson_director & @anirudhofficial titled as #DOCTOR. Once again happy to be associated with @kjr_studios Shoot starts soon @SKProdOffl (sic)

Sivakarthikeyan and director Nelson have been close friends since ‘Remo’, in which the latter was an assistant to Bakkiyaraj Kannan. Nelson made his debut last year with ‘Kolamavu Kokila’ starring Nayanthara in the lead. The film was a big success, both critically and commercially.

‘Doctor’ is Sivakarthikeyan’s fourth production venture after ‘Kanaa’, ‘Nenjam Undu Nermai Undu Odu Raja’ and ‘Vaazhl’, which is yet to hit screens. Though he played an extended cameo in ‘Kanaa’, this is the first time he is playing the lead in his first own production.

Sivakarthikeyan’s next release is ‘Hero’ directed by PS Mithran of ‘Irumbuthirai’ fame. He has also signed for films with ‘Indru Netru Naalai’ fame Ravikumar and Vignesh Shivn.

Nivin Pauly-Aditi Balan starrer Padavettu launched

The formal switch on ceremony of Nivin Pauly’s new film ‘Padavettu’ was held today (December 3) at LP School Ground, Kanhileri in Kannur. Debutant Liju Krishna is directing the film. Actor Sunny Wayne is making his feature film production debut by funding this film. Sunny had earlier produced director Liju’s play ‘Moment Just Before Death’ as well.

‘Padavettu’ is said to be a rustic tale set in Kannur. Director Liju Krishna himself has scripted the film. He has assured that the film will have Nivin Pauly in a kind of role that he has not done before. It will be a challenging role and the audience can expect to see a different side of the actor. Aditi Balan has been signed as the female lead. It marks her mating outing in Malayalam industry.

Aditi shot to fame with her sensational performance in the award winning Tamil film, ‘Aruvi’. Similar to Nivib, she also has a performance oriented role in ‘Padavettu’. The pretty actress waited for nearly two years since ‘Aruvi’ to sign her second film.

On the technical front, Deepak D Menon will be wielding the camera and edits will be done by Shefeek Muhammed Ali. Govind Vasantha will be handling the music department.

After all sorts of speculations, Vineeth Sreenivasan has finally made the official announcement regarding his next directorial venture. As reported by us earlier, Pranav Mohanlal and Kalyani Priyadarshan will be playing the lead roles in the film, which has been titled as ‘Hridayam’. Darshana Rajendran, noted for her performance in films like ‘Mayaanadhi’ and ‘Virus’, will also be seen in a major role.

‘Hridayam’ marks the return of Merryland Cinemas to production. Visakh Subramaniam, who was one of the producers of ‘Love Action Drama’ heads the banner now. Noble Thomas is the co-producer. Details regarding the other technical crew members will be announced shortly.

‘Hridayam’, with a solid team, is a very promising film on paper. Vineeth, Pranav and Kalyani have a big legacy to live up to as their fathers have worked together in several classic films. So this is more like a reunion of the next generation. Needless to say, the burden of expectations will be huge on them.

Let’s hope Vineeth and team can overcome all that and deliver a quality product. The film has been planned as an Onam release next year.

Mohanlal are veteran filmmaker Siddique are teaming for ‘Big Brother’, which is slated for release next month. It is the actor-director duo’s third film together after ‘Vietnam Colony’ and ‘Ladies and Gentleman’. According to the director, this is the most expensive film in his career and has been made as a proper superstar film.

In the past, several films of Siddique have went on to be remade in other languages like ‘Ramji Rao Speaking’, ‘In Harihar Nagar’, ‘Godfather’, ‘Hitler’, ‘Friends’, ‘Chronic Bachelor’, ‘Bodyguard’ and ‘Bhaskar The Rascal’. According to the director, just like his earlier films, ‘Big Brother’ also has a storyline that appeals to a wide audience. He believes that there are high chances for the film to get remade in other languages.

‘Big Brother’ is expected to be a complete entertainer with all commercial elements in it. Mohanlal, Anoop Menon and ‘June’ fame Sarjano Khalid will be seen as siblings in the film. Bollywood actor Arbaaz Khan is making his Malayalam debut by a police officer’s character. Mirna Menon, Gadha, Honey Rose, Vishnu Unnikrishnan, Siddique, Tini Tom, Janardhanan, Satna Titus and Chemban Vinod Jose are also part of the supporting cast.

The official first look poster of Dileep’s new film ‘My Santa’ just got released online. The Sugeeth directorial is touted to be a full on fun entertainer. Debutant Jemin Cyriac has scripted the film which has Dileep and a 7-year-old girl kid in major roles. The film has an interesting subject and Dileep has pinned high hopes on it. In a recent interview with us, he had revealed that he plays a Santa Claus in the film.

Anusree plays the female lead. It is her second film with Dileep after ‘Chandrettan Evideya’. Young star Sunny Wayne is also there in a crucial role. The movie has Faizal Ali as the cinematographer, Sajan as the editor and veteran Vidyasagar as the music director. It is the maiden venture of a newly launched production house named Wall Poster Entertainments. Scriptwriter Nishad Koya, Saritha Sugeeth, Ajeesh OK and Sandra Maria Jose are heading the banner.

We had recently reported about cinematographer-turned-filmmaker Venu directing a new film with Parvathy and Asif Ali in the leads. The film is part of the four-part anthology that also has works by directors Jay K, Rajeev Ravi and Aashiq Abu. We hear that Venu’s segment is based on Sahitya Akademi Award winning writer Uroob’s popular short story ‘Rachiyamma’.

Venu has adapted the screenplay based on ‘Rachiyamma’, which was originally written in 1969. All the four films in this upcoming anthology flick have female-centric stories as the common theme. In Venu’s film, Parvathy will be essaying the titular character Rachiyamma. Shoot is set to begin by the first week of December.

Jay K, who previously made the horror-thriller ‘Ezra’ fame, has already completed the shoot of his film. Scripted by Santhosh Echikanam, the film is set in the 50s and has Samyuktha Menon and Joju George in the lead roles. Aashiq Abu’s film ‘Pennum Cherukkanum’ has also been wrapped up. Basil Joseph and Roshan Mathew are part of the cast. Unni R has scripted the film and it has cinematography by Shyju Khalid.

Rajeev Ravi is likely to start works on his film only after the completion of ‘Thuramukham’..

Mohanlal’s next release is ‘Big Brother’ directed by Siddique. It is his third film with Siddique after working together in ‘Vietnam Colony’ and ‘Ladies and Gentleman’. Shoot for ‘Big Brother’ got wrapped up only recently and the film is scheduled for release in January.

According to director Siddique, ‘Big Brother’ is the most expensive film in his career. The film wad originally planned to be made on a budget of Rs 28 crore but went up to Rs 32 crore. In an interview, he revealed that wanted to make the film on a big canvas considering Mohanlal’s stardom and the expectations of fans. Siddique, Jenso Jose, Philipose K Joseph, Manu Maliackal and Vaishak Rajan have jointly produced the film.

‘Big Brother’ is being made as a proper entertainer with all commercial elements in it. Mohanlal, Anoop Menon and ‘June’ fame Sarjano Khalid will be seen as siblings in the film. Bollywood actor Arbaaz Khan is making his Malayalam debut by a police officer’s character. Mirna Menon, Gadha, Honey Rose, Vishnu Unnikrishnan, Siddique, Tini Tom, Janardhanan, Shilpa Ajayan, Satna Titus and Chemban Vinod Jose are also part of the supporting cast. After the completion of ‘Mamangam’, Unni Mukundan had been on a two-month long break. He is now back in action as his new film ‘Meppadiyan’ has been launched. Directed by debutant Vishnu Mohan, the film is said to be a crime thriller. Noorin Sheriff and debutante Aparna Janardhanan play the female leads. Noorin and Unni were supposed to act together in ‘Chocolate: Retold’, but we hear that the project hae been shelved as of now.

Unni Mukundan has pinned high hopes on ‘Meppadiyan’. According to director Vishnu Mohan, Unni plays a different role in the film and his character has been named as Jayakrishnan. The story is about how Jayakrishnan overcomes the unexpected turn of events in his life.

Unni’s next release is the hugely awaited ‘Mamangam’. While Mammootty plays the lead role, Unni is essaying a very important character of Chandroth Panicker, a warrior. The ripped physique that he is sporting in the film has already become a talking point. It is expected to be a big breakthrough for him.
