Mammootty and Peranbu director Ram bag top honours at News 18 Magudam Awards 2019

‘Peranbu’ continues to garner accolades. The film swept top awards at the News 18 Tamil Nadu Magudam Awards 2019. Mammootty was chosen as the best actor and Ram won the award for best director. Kamal Haasan handed over the award and honoured Mammootty at the venue. Aishwarya Rajesh won the award for best actress for her performance in the sports drama, ‘Kanaa’.

It is probably the first of many awards that’s coming Mammootty’s way this year. The superstar was expected to be a strong contender for this year’s National award, however, the jury snubbed ‘Peranbu’ and his performance which led to severe backlash in social medias.

‘Peranbu’ tells the story of an affectionate father and his spastic teenage daughter. Mammootty’s finely measured performance as the doting father whose subtle emotional outbursts that come from his helplessness was widely appreciated. Sadhana, who played the daughter’s part also earned praise from all corners.

Before its theatrical release in February, ‘Peranbu’ was screened at the International Film Festival of Rotterdam (IFFR), Shanghai International Film Festival and the International Film Festival of India (IFFI). It was recently selected for screening at the Korean Indian Film Festival as well.

Here’s Dulquer Salmaan and Suresh Gopi from Anoop Sathyan’s film!

Shoot for Anoop Sathyan’s directorial debut is currently progressing at a brisk pace. Dulquer Salmaan, Shobhana, Suresh Gopi and Kalyani Priyadarshan play the lead roles in the film. Along with the shoot, the makers have been regularly releasing location stills online and the latest to come out is one featuring Dulquer and Suresh Gopi. It is the first time the two actors are sharing screen space and that’s one major USP of this film.

Scripted by Anoop Sathyan himself, this yet-to-be titled film is said to be a family drama. There are a lot of peculiarities about the film. Both the veterans, Suresh Gopi and Shobhana are making their comeback to acting in Malayalam after a long gap. It is also Kalyani Priyadarshan’s debut Malayalam film. Besides playing one of the leads, Dulquer Salmaan is also producing the film in association with M Star Communications. All these factors increase the expectations.

On the technical front, Mukesh Muraleedharan of ‘Uyare’ fame is cranking the camera and music department is being handled by Alphonse. Others in the crew include production designer Dino Shankar, editor Toby John, costume designer Uthara Menon, and lyricist Santhosh Varma.
