Joy Mathew to direct Dulquer Salmaan in a political thriller

After the widely acclaimed ‘Shutter’, Joy Mathew is set to team up with Dulquer Salmaan for a political thriller. Joy Mathew is currently working on the script and shoot will be commencing in January 2020. Dulquer’s own banner Wayfarer Films will be associated with the production. Pre-production works are still progressing after which an official announcement will be made.

Joy Mathew’s directorial debut ‘Shutter’ was a critically acclaimed film that got screened at several international film festivals. It was also remade in six Indian languages. The film showcased the moral hypocrisies in Kerala’s patriarchal society. He followed it up with a similar themed ‘Uncle’, that had Mammootty in the lead. Joy Mathew penned the script and it was directed by Gireesh Damodar. The film won the Kerala State Award for best story.

It will be interesting to see how Joy Mathew directs Dulquer Salmaan, who enjoys a huge fan following among the youth. The star is currently shooting simultaneously for ‘Kurup’ and Anoop Sathyan’s untitled film co-starring Shobhana, Suresh Gopi and Kalyani Priyadarshan. Both these films are also produced under his banner.

Shylock’s highlight will be the freshness in its script: Ajai Vasudev

Mammootty’s ‘Shylock’ is getting ready amidst high expectations. The film directed by Ajai Vasudev is shaping up as an action packed mass entertainer. Bibin Mohan and Aneesh Hameed have scripted the film. It is being produced by Joby George of Goodwill Entertainment.

Ajai Vasudev had earlier directed Mammootty in ‘Rajadhiraja’ and ‘Masterpiece’. In a recent interview, when asked about how different ‘Shylock’ will be from his other two films, the director said that it’s the script that’s the biggest highlight. According to Ajai Vasudev, ‘Shylock’ is a family based mass entertainer. It is a complete package with all necessary commercial ingredients like action, humour, dance and emotions.

Mammootty plays a financier’s role in the film and his character is said to be a grey shaded one. Along with him, the film also has veteran Tamil actor Raj Kiran and Meena in major roles. Bibin George, Baiju Santhosh, Siddique, Kalabhavan Shajohn, Hareesh Kanaran and many others are part of the cast.

The makers are planning to release it for Christmas in December.

As reported by us earlier, Nimisha Sajayan and Rajisha Vijayan are playing the leads in State Award winning director Vidhu Vincent’s new film ‘Stand Up’. Shoot for the film has already been wrapped up and the makers are planning to release it next month. Meanwhile, first single from the film has been released online. The track was shared through Tovino’s official social media handle. Playback singer-turned-music director Sayanora Philip has composed this song.

‘Stand Up’ is scripted by Umesh Omanakuttan. We presume that the film is about a stand-up comedienne. It is a subject that is new to the Malayali audience as stand up shows are not yet popular in Kerala, as it is in North India or when compared to other Southern cities like Chennai or Bangalore.

The film also stars Arjun Ashokan, Venkitesh, Nisthar Sait, Seema, Sajitha Madathil, Jolly Chirayath, Rajesh Sharma, Sunil Sukhada, Divya Gopinathan and many others. It has a lesser known technical crew comprising of cinematographer Tobin Thomas, music director Varkey and editor Christy Sebastian. The film is produced by Anto Joseph Film Company.

Enna Undra: Check out this new song from Kettiyolaanu Ente Malakha

The first single from Asif Ali’s upcoming film, ‘Kettiyolaanu Ente Malakha’ has been released online. The track is composed by debutant William Francis. The film is being directed by debutant Nisam Basheer. It is scripted by Aji Peter, also a newcomer. As the title suggests, ‘Kettiyolaanu Ente Malakha’ is a family drama centred around a newly wed couple.

Veena Nandakumar, who was previously seen in ‘Kadam Katha’, is paired with Asif in this film. The latter has pinned high hopes on it. Recently, during the film’s audio launch, the makers sounded extremely confident about the film. Asif even added that this is the best team he has worked so far in his career.

‘Kettiyolaanu Ente Malakha’ also stars Basil Joseph, Jaffer Idukki and a bunch of newcomers. In the technical front, Abilash is the cinematographer and edits will be handled by Noufal Abdullah is the editor. Justin Stephen and Wichu Balamurali are jointly producing the film under the banner of Magic Frames.

The first look poster of Aju Varghese’s new film as a lead actor, ‘Kamala’, was unveiled last day in social medias. Megastar Mammootty shared the poster through his social media handle. The film directed by Ranjith Sankar marks his return to thriller genre after ‘Passenger’ and ‘Arjunan Sakshi’. Shoot for ‘Kamala’ has already been wrapped up and the makers are planning to release it in November.

‘Kamala’ is a film that Ranjith Sankar had been planning for long but could not find the apt actor to play the lead character. He finally zeroed in on Aju Varughese, who is often associated with comedy sidekick roles. It will be interesting to see Aju trying a serious role after a long while.

Tovino Thomas and Soubin Shahir team up for Thallumaala

Last day, it was announced that Tovino Thomas and Soubin Shahir will be coming together for a new film titled ‘Thallumaala’. A title poster has been released introducing all the crew members. Muhsin Parari is scripting and directing this film. Aashiq Abu and Rima Kallingal will be producing it under the banner of OPM Pictures.

‘Thallumaala’ will mark the first time coming together of Tovino Thomas and Soubin Shahir as leads. It will be interesting to see them perform together on screen. The film will have camera cranked by Jimshi Khalid of ‘Anuraga Karikkin Vellam’ fame. Sushin Shyam is the music director and Saiju Sreedharan, the editor.

‘Thallumaala’ is Muhsin’s second directorial venture. He had previously helmed ‘KL 10 Pathu’ and co-wrote ‘Sudani From Nigeria’ and ‘Virus’. The film also has Ashraf Hamza, the director of ‘Thamaasha’ as the co-writer. Shoot is likely to begin only next year as both Tovino and Soubin are busy with their prior commitments.

‘Manoharam’ is basically a feel-good entertainer set in the rural locales of Palakkad. It is the story of Manu, a talented painting artist who fails to update himself according to the modern needs. Manu’ attempts to learn photoshop and start a flex printing shop in his village is what is told in this inspiring story. Director Anvar Sadik, who has also scripted the film, has done really well in packaging the film as a fine entertainer.

‘Manoharam’ has a good set of supporting actors. ‘Njan Prakashan’ fame Aparna Das plays the female lead. Indrans, Basil Joseph, Deepak Parambol, Hareesh Peradi, Kalaranjini, Sreelekshmi, Jude Anthany Joseph, Ahmed Siddique, Nisthar Sait, VK Prakash, Delhi Ganesh and Nandini are part of the cast. The film is being produced by Jos Chakkalakal of Chakkalakal Films and AK Sunil of New Surya Films.

Veteran director Kamal’s new film ‘Pranaya Meenukalude Kadal’ starring a bunch of newcomers hit screens last Friday (October 4). As the theatre response has been positive so far, the makers have released a new song online. The romantic track titled ‘Neelime’ is sung by Najim Arshad and Shweta Mohan. Shaan Rahman has composed the song and lyrics is written by Rafeeq Ahamed.

‘Pranaya Meenukalude Kadal’ is a romantic film set in the serene isles of Lakshadweep. Director Kamal has scripted the film along with the company of veteran John Paul. Gabri Jose, Ridhi Kumar and some other debutants play the lead roles. Vinayakan is also essaying a very prominent role in the film. Dileesh Pothan, Saiju Kurup, Kailas and many others are part of the film’s supporting cast.

‘Pranaya Meenukalude Kadal’ has Shaan Rahman as the music director and Vishnu Panicker as the DOP. Shameer Muhammed is handling the edits. The film is being produced by John Vattakuzhi under the banner of Dani Productions.

‘Vikrithi’ starring Suraj Venjaramoodu and Soubin Shahir in the lead roles hit screens last Friday and has opened to positive reviews from the critics. Common audience also seem to have lapped up the film as the talks in social medias is encouraging. Meanwhile, the makers have released a new song online. The track titled ‘Chillayile’ is rendered by Harisankar KS and composed by Bijibal. Santhosh Varma has penned the lyrics.

‘Vikrithi’ is scripted by Ajeesh P Thomas and directed by Emcy Joseph. The film is inspired from a real life incident. Couple of years back, there was an incident when a middle-aged man was seen sleeping casually on the seats of Kochi metro. Assuming him to be a drunkard, some of the fellow passengers captured his photos and shared it online. It soon went viral but only to be later learnt that the man was hearing-impaired and had lied down on the seat as he was unwell. When news came out about his real condition, it was a moment of big collective embarrassment for the Malayali social media circle.

‘Vikrithi’ is inspired from this incident. In the film, Suraj Venjaramoodu essays the disabled person’s role and Soubin plays the role of the guy who took his photos. Surabhi Lekshmi, Vincy, Riya Saira, Irshad Ali, Sudhy Koppa, Mamukkoya, Pouli Valsan, Jaffer Idukki, Bhagath Manuel, Mamitha, Gracy, Sivaji Guruvayur, Baburaj, Mareena Michael, Nebish Benson, Neha and many others are part of the cast.

A D Sreekumar, Ganesh Menon and Lakshmi Warrier are jointly producing the film under the banner of Cut 2 Create Pictures.

Ayyappanum Koshiyum starts rolling

Shoot for Prithviraj-Biju Menon starrer ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ commenced today in Attapadi. The film is written and directed by Sachi. Director Ranjith and his friend PM Sasidharan are jointly producing it under the banner of Gold Coin Motion Picture Company. The film has Biju Menon as Ayappan Nair, a middle-aged police constable posted in Attapadi and Prithviraj as Koshy Kurian, a havildar who is retired from army after 16 years of service.

‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ also stars Anna Reshma Rajan of ‘Angamaly Diaries’ fame, Siddique, Anu Mohan, Sabumon Abdusamad, Anil Nedumangad, Shaju Sreedhar and many others. The film deals with the clash between the two titular characters, Ayyappan Nair and Koshi, over a small legal issue. It is about the battle of egoes between the two men.

As per director Sachi, it is his first attempt in making a real mass action flick. The subject has scope for it and hence the makers are opting for a mass treatment. Sachi has worked on the script for over a year. Sudeep Elamon of ‘Pathinettam Padi’ and ‘Finals’ fame is the cinematograer and Jakes Bejoy has been signed as the composer. Veteran Ranjan Pramod is the editor.
