Thalaivi: Aravind Swami as MGR in Jayalalithaa biopic starring Kangana Ranaut

As we already know, Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut is starring in the biopic of late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. AL Vijay is directing the movie, which has been titled as ‘Thalaivi’. Pre-production including casting is getting finalized and the makers are planning to start shooting in October. Besides the Tamil version, there will also be a Hindi version, which has been titled as ‘Jaya’.

Meanwhile, there are reports emerging that Arvind Swami has been approached to play MGR’s role in the film. It must be remembered that, MGR and Jayalalithaa were very close to each other right from their acting days. It was MGR who introduced Jayalalithaa to the world of politics. It is not yet known if Arvind Swamy is a part of the film, but it will be ideal if a towering actor like him is chosen to bring MGR live on screen.

The Jayalalithaa biopic is being scripted jointly by ‘Baahubali’ writer KV Vijayendra Prasad and Rajat Arora. Kangana has already started prepping up for the role. She is getting trained in Tamil diction, classical dance and will also be putting on weight. The movie has Nirav Shah cranking the camera and music composed by GV Prakash. Antony will be handling the edits.

Official: Release date announced for Dhanush starrer Asuran

Dhanush’s new film ‘Asuran’ directed by Vetrimaaran is eagerly awaited by cinephiles. The actor-director duo have a big fan following. Their previous films like ‘Polladhavan’, ‘Aadukalam’ and ‘Vada Chennai’ were highly acclaimed and hence expectations are naturally high on the upcoming one. The makers have announced that ‘Asuran’ will be hitting screens on October 4.

‘Asuran’ based on Poomani’s novel ‘Vekkai’ novel is said to be a rural drama set between 60s and 80s. The movie Dhanush playing a dual role as father and son. Actor Karunas’ son Ken plays the younger version of the son character. Popular Malayali actress Manju Warrier makes her Tamil debut with this movie. Pasupathi is also essaying a prominent role.

GV Prakash is composing the music and R Velraj is cranking the camera. The movie is currently in the final stages of shoot. It is being produced by Kalaipuli S Thanu of V Creations.

Vijay Sethupathi wins Best Actor award at Indian Film Festival of Melbourne

Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) is one of the biggest film festivals outside India. This year’s festival is held from August 8-17. Last year’s best performers from Indian cinema have been honoured and Tamil star Vijay Sethupathi has bagged the prestigious best actor award. He won the performance for his extraordinary performance as a transgender in ‘Super Deluxe’. He competed with Ayushman Khuranna, Ranveer Singh, Manoj Bajpai, Amitabh Bachchan,
Vicky Kaushal and Namdev Gaurav.

Veteran Tabu bagged the award for Best Female Actor for her performance in ‘Andhadhun’. Its maker Sriram Raghvan won the Best Director award. Zoya Akthar’s ‘Gully Boy’ won the award for Best Film. Rima Das’ ‘Bulbul Can Sing’ was chosen as the Best Indie Film at IFFM 2019

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan was felicitated with the Excellence in Cinema award. SRK was presented the award by Linda Dessau, who was sworn in as Victoria’s 29th Governor, the first female in the role.

Saaho trailer to be released tomorrow in four languages

As we already know, Prabhas starrer ‘Saaho’ is scheduled for a grand worldwide release on August 30. As the release date is closing in, the makers have planned to release the trailer tomorrow (August 10). It will be released simultaneously in four languages – Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi. Earlier, the movie’s teaser had got stupendous response from the viewers. The trailer is also expected to garner the same kind of response.

‘Saaho’ directed by Sujeeth is an action packed thriller made on an international scale. The movie is being made on a whopping budget of Rs 300 crores. Bollywood actress Shradhha Kapoor is paired with Prabhas. Jackie Shroff, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Chunky Pandey, Mandira Bedi, Mahesh Manjrekar, Arun Vijay, Lal, Vennela Kishore and Tinnu Anand are playing other prominent roles.

If things go as per plans, ‘Saaho’ will be releasing simultaneously Telugu, Hindi and Tamil languages. Vamsi Krishna Reddy and Pramod Uppalapati are jointly producing it under the banner of UV Creations. In Kerala, the movie will be released by director B Unnikrishnan’s distribution firm RD Illuminations.

Shylock: Mammootty’s new film starts rolling

Mammootty’s new film ‘Shylock’ has gone on flores today (August 9). The movie is being directed by Ajai Vasudev and is produced by Joby George of Goodwill Entertainment. Scripted by newcomers Bibin Mohan and Aneesh Hameed, the movie is said to be an action-packed mass entertainer.

‘Shylock’ has reportedly been planned as a bilingual in Tamil and Malayalam. Mammootty plays a financier’s role in the film and his character is said to be a grey shaded one. Veteran Tamil actor Raj Kiran has been signed to play a very prominent role in the film. Meena will be seen as the female lead. She has been paired with Raj Kiran.

The core technical crew of ‘Shylock’ comprises of cinematographer Renadive, music director Gopi Sunder, editor Riyas K Badhar and art director Vinod Raveendran. If things go as per plans, the movie will be hitting screens for this year’s Christmas in December.

National Awards 2019: Special Jury Mention for Joju George

Joju George’s days keep getting better as the actor has followed his State award win with a special jury mention at the National level. Joju along with Sruthi Hariharan (Nathicharami), Chandrachud Rai and Savithri Sreedharan (Sudani From Nigeria) were honoured with a special mention for their performances. The 66th National Film Awards was announced today at PIB Conference Hall, Shastri Bhavan in New Delhi.

It is his exceptional performance as a sombre, retired policeman in ‘Joseph’ that won Joju the big honour. Upon its release in November last year, critics as well as the commoners unanimously applauded his performance. Earlier this year, when the Kerala State awards were announced, he bagged the award for best character actor. Along with that he won quite a few awards at the regional level as well.

Post-Joseph, Joju’s career has shown a remarkable growth. Big offers are pouring in for him and so far, he has been quite smart in handpicking the best among the lot. He currently has some highly promising films coming up. His next release is ‘Porinju Mariam Jose’, in which he plays one of the titular roles. The Joshiy directorial is a mass entertainer that has Joju playing Kattaalan Porinju, a real-life based character.

Joju also has ‘Chola’, directed by award-winning filmmaker Sanal Kumar Sasidharan in the pipeline. The movie will be having its world premier at the Venice International Film Festival, which will be held from August 28 to September 6. ‘Chola’ is only the third Malayalam film to be screened at Venice.

Joju meanwhile has also signed for his Tamil debut. He will be starring alongside Dhanush in the upcoming gangster thriller to be directed by Karthik Subbaraj. Joju also has plans to remake ‘Chola’ in Tamil.

Joju George to make his Tamil debut with Dhanush-Karthik Subbaraj film

Joju George has grown leaps and bounds as an actor over the last few years. The smashing success of ‘Joseph’, his first film as a solo hero, has propelled him to a different league altogether. Offers are pouring in for Joju and he is being extremely selective. He has some interesting films coming up, which includes his big Tamil debut. Yes, the actor is foraying into Kollywood with director Karthik Subbaraj’s upcoming film starring Dhanush in the lead.

As reported by us earlier, this yet-to-be titled film is a gangster thriller set entirely in the United Kingdom. Besides Joju, the movie also has another Malayali presence in Aishwarya Lekshmi, who plays the female lead. S Sashikanth of Y Not Studios is producing the movie. A leading actor from Hollywood is also expected to be part of the cast.

Its technical crew includes composer Santhosh Narayanan, cinematographer Shreyaas Krishna and National award winning editor Vivek Harshan. Shoot is scheduled to begin later this month.

Ayushmann Khurrana loved Ambili songs

Soubin Shahir starrer ‘Ambili’ is all set for release this Friday (August 9). The movie is eagerly awaited by a section of audience thanks to its highly promising teaser and impressive songs. The makers have so far released three tracks – ‘Njan Jackson Allada’, ‘Aaradhike’ and ‘Oru Cheru Kiliyude’ and all of them have been well received. Vishnu Vijay, who won the State Award winner for his debut film ‘Guppy’, has composed for ‘Ambili’

Recently, during the mixing session of ‘Ambili’ at Post House, Mumbai, Bollywood actor Ayushmann Khurrana walked in and expressed his interest to listen to the songs. He loved them as well. Sound designer Nithin Lukose shared this bit of info through his social media handle. He also posted a photo taken with Ayushmann in the studio.

‘Ambili’ is written and directed by John Paul George of ‘Guppy’ fame. As per the makers, it has family emotions, romance and is also a road film. The movie has been shot in various states across the country. Soubin the titular role. Nazriya Nazim’s younger brother Naveen Nazim and debutante Tanvi Ram will be seen in other major roles. Jaffer Idukki, Vettukili Prakash, Neena Kurup and Sreelatha Nampoothiri are also part of the film’s supporting cast.

On the technical front, Sharan Velayudhan, a noted cinematographer in the ad film industry, has cranked the camera. Kiran Das is handling the edits. Mukesh R Mehta, AV Anoop and CV Sarathy are jointly producing the movie under the banner of E4 Entertainment.

Here’s the trailer of Jayaram starrer Pattabhiraman

The official trailer of Jayaram’s new film ‘Pattabhiraman’ has just been released in social medias. The movie directed by Kannan Thamarakkulam is touted to be an out and out fun entertainer. Dinesh Pallath has scripted the movie. As per the makers, it is a light hearted flick that also intends to pass a social message. Jayaram plays the role of a government officer in the movie.

‘Pattabhiraman’ also stars Baiju Santhosh, Dharmajan Bolgatty, Sheelu Abraham, Hareesh Kanaran, Miya George, Parvathy Nambiar, Anumol, Ramesh Pisharody, Devan, Prem Kumar, Sai Kumar and many others. Ravi Chandran has cranked the camera and music department is handled by M Jayachandran. Rajith KR is in charge of the edits.
