Here’s the teaser of Amala Paul starrer Aadai

The stunning teaser of upcoming Tamil film ‘Aadai’ has just been released online. The movie written and directed by Rathnakumar of ‘Meyaadha Maan’ fame looks like a chilling survival thriller. ‘Aadai’ which translates to ‘dress’ has Amala Paul in the lead. The teaser features her as half naked, trapped in a building surrounded by police force. Going by the teaser itself, one can easily say that the actress has taken a very bold attempt and it promises to pay off.

Director Rathnakumar’s debut film, ‘Meyaadha Maan’ was a completely contrasting film. It was a fun-filled rom-com starring Vaibhav Reddy, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Induja and Vivek Prasanna in the leads. With ‘Aadai’ it seems like the director is trying a genre that’s very rarely seen in Tamil industry.

‘Aadai’ has music composed by popular playback singer Pradeep Kumar and the Oorka band of Thedadhey fame. Vijay Kartik Kannan has cranked the camera and edits are handled by Shafique Mohamed Ali. Viji Subramanian has produced the movie under the banner of V Studios.

A wonderful movie that says a lot without screaming, things that are much needed in today’s time. Vinay fort will blow you away by his performance. @grace_antonyy you are a true asset to Malayalam cinema. Loved watching you every second and @divya_prabha__ polich mole! You were just too good
Congrats to the whole team! @ashraf_hamzzaThamasha will be remembered for a long long time and you for creating it!

Rima Kallingal:

Chinnu is her own hero and the hero that everyone wants in their life.
Be like Chinnu
Rahim is that person who nevers gives up on his friends.
Be like Rahim.
Go fall in love with the innocence of Sreenivasan, Chinnu, Safiya, Babitha teacher, Rahim and many other beautiful human beings..
Loved this gem of a movie Ashrafkka. It is a movie adaptation of who you are in real. Thank you for giving us Chinnu and Sreenivasan.
Shyju, Sameer, Lijo, Chemban.

Veteran cinematographer Madhu Ambat:

I went to see “Thamasha” because my friend Uma was involved in it. I really liked the movie. it had a perfect blend of humor and seriousness. Very difficult to achieve as a scriptwriter. All the actors performed really well. Vinay Forrt, with whom I had worked in Clint, gave an excellent portrayal of the character. But then I always knew he is a terrific actor. The surprise was Chinnu. #ChintuChandni What an actress she is. She carried the role very well on her shoulders. Congrats Vinay and Chinnu. Though Uma had little to do in the movie, she did it with a natural grace. Congrats Uma.
Can’t believe this is the debut film of Ashraf Hamza. he has handled all the actors very well. If all the the actors in the film performs well, the credit goes to the director. His shots had freshness in the approach. And he is the scriptwriter also. Congrats Ashraf.
I recommend this film very strongly. I am seeing such a good Malayalam cinema after a long time. It is a must be seen movie.
We expect many more films like this from you, Ashraf…

Popular television host Dhanya Varma:

Love the fact that the movie has broken all conventional norms…the lead characters go on to prove that a good story doesn’t need larger than life heroes or heroines. When I saw premam I felt like I wanted to see more of Vimal sir, I saw him again in sreenivasan sir and what a joy that was! A box office success just needs a good story and well written characters ..proved yet again… Matters close to the life we lead now…social media, body shaming et al touched upon with no unnecessary drama…actors that were so natural that I felt like I was viewing a slice of life and not a movie…easy breezy, yet touched our hearts…
Congratulations team tamasha!

‘Luca’ director Arun Bose:

Saw Thamasa, I must say Vinay Forrt, you stole the show. What an amazing performance, body language. Absolute delight to watch. Long way to go bro, may there be more fantastic characters like this in your career. Hoping to work with you sometime. And Arun Kurian, you did a great job too. ? It was also nice to see a lot of my fellow teammates of Luca, from Art team under the captainship of Anees Nadodi in front and behind the camera of Thamasa. The film was such a pleasure to watch. Congratulations to the whole team.

‘Sayana Varthakal’ director Arun Chandu:

Sweet simple film with great performances. Vinay Forrt bro! Its a joy to watch you on the screen as Sreenivasan mash! Terrific! Casting of thamasa is stellar. All actors did the best. Arun Kurian great to see you in such finely made films, looking forward to meenaviyal . production quality is also worth mentioning since the film is not a big budget one. real

Rima Kallingal hints at penning script for Parvathy’s directorial debut

Of late, several actors have expressed their interest in trying a hand in filmmaking. Prithviraj Sukumaran was the last entrant to the club of actor-turned-filmmakers from Malayalam. Recently, in an interview, actress Rima Kallingal was asked if she has any such plans. Rima affirmed that she certainly wants to involve more in the process of filmmaking.

Rima expressed her wish to concentrate more on writing. She is quoted saying, “I really want to see if I have it in me to write. I might write a script and ask Parvathy to direct it.” It is worth a mention that Parvathy had also recently hinted about her desire to direct a film someday. Both Rima and Parvathy are well known for being outspoken about glorifying misogyny and representation of women in Malayalam cinema. It will be really interesting to see what they deliver if they decide to come together to make a movie.

Parvathy and Rima Kallingal were last seen in ‘Virus’, which was produced by the latter. Though they did not have any combination scenes, both their performances have been well received. The movie directed by Aashiq Abu has got great reviews and is currently doing well at the box office.

Asif Ali’s purple patch keeps getting better!

Asif Ali’s purple patch keeps getting better!

Malayalam cinema has always been gifted with talented actors. Even when the two superstars, Mohanlal and Mammootty, continue to rule the roost, younger generation of actors are carving a niche for themselves in the industry. Among the next gen actors, it’s Asif Ali who has shown remarkable growth as a performer over the last few years. It has been exactly ten years since he made his debut with Shyamaprasad’s ‘Ritu’. In his decade-long career, the actor has had to endure all sorts of highs and lows to reach where he is today. He is one actor who has consistently been trying to balance quality, performance-oriented films with regular potboilers. However, box office success has not always been favorable for him. Despite that, the actor has constantly strived to push the envelope and it seems like his efforts are bearing fruits now.

In 2019, Asif has had four major releases, out of which three were multi-starrers. His first release of the year, ‘Vijay Superum Pournamiyum’ (VSP) set the ball rolling as it emerged as the first superhit of the year. The movie, which marked his third time union with director Jis Joy, enjoyed a theatrical run of 100 days.

Asif’s next release was ‘Mera Naam Shaji’ in which he played one of the leads alongside Biju Menon and Baiju. Though the Nadirshah directorial was released amidst high expectation, it failed to create any impression.

Asif compensated it with a stellar performance in Manu Asokan’s ‘Uyare’. In a grey shaded role, the actor delivered what is widely rated as his career best performance. Asif has often been associated with angry-young-man roles but Govind Balakrishnan of ‘Uyare’ was not just another one dimensional character. As someone who is chauvinistic, possessive and one who carries a lot of insecurities, Asif gave a finely measured act that was lauded unanimously by the critics and common audience. Despite being a heroine-centric film, Asif made quite a mark in ‘Uyare’.

Asif Ali was next seen in ‘Virus’, the biggest multi-starrer of recent times. Amidst a host of characters, his Vishnu was a brief but very important part. Once again it was a troubled character who had to carry with him a lot of pain and remorse. In spite of sharing screen space with such a big star cast, Asif Ali’s performance was noted and praised.

Asif was most recently seen in the Mammootty starrer ‘Unda’, in which he did a blink-a-miss cameo role. The actor currently has some very interesting projects coming up like ‘Kakshi Amminipilla’, ‘Underworld’, ‘Kettyolaanu Ente Malakha’, ‘Kunjeldho’ and ‘Parannu Parannu’. The ace cinematographer-turned-filmmaker Rajeev Ravi is also set to direct Asif in a real-life based film in which he plays a cop.

2019 has so far been Asif Ali’s best year in terms of both performance and box office success. Hopefully, he can continue this successful run with his upcoming releases as well.

Unda becomes the first Mammootty starrer to release in Saudi Arabia; GCC release from tomorrow

After getting an excellent opening in Kerala, Mammootty starrer ‘Unda’ is all set for GCC release from tomorrow (June 18). The movie is releasing in all major centres including Jeddah in Saudi Arabi. It is only the second Malayalam film to release in Saudi after Mohanlal’s ‘Lucifer’. Thanks to the highly positive response back home, Gulf Malayalis and other cinephiles are highly excited about the Unda’s release. The movie is most likely to enjoy a good run in this region.

‘Unda’ is directed by Khalidh Rahman and scripted by Harshad. It tells the story of a battalion of policemen from Kerala who are posted in Chhattisgarh on election duty. Mammootty plays the lead role of an ordinary policeman, SI Manikandan. Shine Tom Chacko, Lukman, Arjun Ashokan, Gokulan, Jacob Gregory, Rony David, Abhiram, Sudhi Koppa, Omkar Das Manikpuri, Bhagwan Tiwari and Ranjith play other major roles.

Hitting screens on June 14, ‘Unda’ opened to largely positive reviews from both the critics and common audience. The movie is finding admirers for its strong politics and the various issues that are brought to light without ever hindering the flow of the narrative. It is not just another regular potboiler, but a politically layered film that touches upon multiple issues which appeals to a wider audience.

If the opening weekend is anything to go by, ‘Unda’ is certain to have a successful, long run at the box office.
