Suriya 39: Suriya to reunite with director Bala?

If Suriya’s career can be divided into two, it will be before ‘Nandha’ and after ‘Nandha’. The movie directed by Bala proved to be a huge game changer for Suriya. His performance in the movie is regarded as one of his finest till date. Suriya later teamed up with the same director for ‘Pithamagan’, which again had him showcasing an unseen side of his – humour. Both the movies had a huge impact in the actor’s career and proved his worth.

If reports are to be believed, Suriya is once again in talks with Bala for a new film. Bala is someone who has always stayed away from the commercial formulaic style of filmmaking. So it will be really interesting if Suriya signs for a Bala film at this stage of his career. The director’s next release was supposed to be ‘Varma’, the remake of Telugu film, ‘Arjun Reddy’, but it got dropped recently due to creative differences with the producers.

Suriya meanwhile is busy with the final leg of shoot of ‘Kaappaan’, which is scheduled for release in August. After its completion, his next film will be with Sudha Kongara of ‘Irudhi Suttru’ fame. It is said to be a biopic G.R.Gopinath,the founder of Air Deccan and a retired captain of the Indian army. Pre-production works are already underway and is expected to start rolling very shortly.

The combo’s new film is expected to begin by the second half of the year. Fahadh’s father, veteran director Fazil, will be producing the movie. It’s Mammootty vs Fahadh Faasil next Friday

The Nadirshah directorial ‘Mera Naam Shaji’ which is hitting screens this Friday (April 5) will be officially kick-starting the Vishu race. The movie looks very promising and it will be aided the fact that it will have a solo release. Next Friday (April 12), we have a mouthwatering contest in Kerala box office. Mammootty’s highly anticipated mass entertainer ‘Madura Raja’ and Fahadh Faasil’s ‘Athiran’ are scheduled for release on the same day.

‘Madura Raja’ is unarguably one of most awaited films of the year. The Vysaksh directorial has Mammootty back as the naughty don, Raja, from the 2010 blockbuster film, ‘Pokkiri Raja’. Udhayakrishna, who wrote the original along with Sibi K Thomas, has scripted this one alone. Vysakh-Udhayakrishna combo’s last film ‘Pulimurugan’ was a record breaking blockbuster. Mammootty fans are hoping that the duo can repeat the success this time as well. From the promos released so far, the movie looks like a full-on action packed mass entertainer. Its trailer is scheduled for release on April 5.

‘Athiran’ comes with very less hype as nothing much is known about the film. The makers have kept the promotions low-key. They are yet to release the teaser or trailer. But on paper, the team behind the movie is very promising. Fahadh and Sai Pallavi play the lead roles. Debutant Vivek is directing the movie and ‘Ee Maa Yau’ writer PF Mathews is scripting it.

With ‘Lucifer’ enjoying a blockbuster run and holding all the major centres in the state, it will be tough for these films to get enough screens. Let’s wait and see.

Fazil planning to direct a movie with Fahadh in the lead

Veteran filmmaker Fazil has been away from the industry for over a decade now. He recently made a comeback, not as a director but as an actor in Prithviraj Sukumaran’s directorial debut ‘Lucifer’. He played a cameo role as Father Nedumbally in the movie. Though it was a brief role, it got noted by the audience.

Meanwhile, there have been reports about the director teaming up with megastar Mammootty for his comeback film. It was said that Siddique-Lal duo would be scripting the film. However, Fazil has dismissed these reports as baseless rumours. But he also added that he is planning to make a movie with his son Fahadh in the lead.

It’s worth a mention that it was Fazil who introduced his son to cinema through the film ‘Kaiyethum Doorath’, back in 2002. The movie was a big failure and Fahadh left his acting career halfway, but only to return back in style. Riding on a hattrick of superhit films, Fahadh is now among the most wanted actors in Malayalam. It will be interesting to see how Fazil directs his son this time around. The veteran is also producing his son’s upcoming movie to be directed by Dileesh Pothan.
