Final: Niranj and Rajisha Vijayan to team up for a sports based film

Veteran actor Maniyanpilla Raju’s son Niranj, noted for his roles in movies like ‘Black Butterfly’, ‘Drama’ and ‘Bobby’, will be next seen in a sports based film. The movie reportedly titled as ‘Final’ is written and directed by debutant Arun PR. Maniyanpilla Raju is producing the movie under his own banner.

Rajisha Vijayan, who is fresh from the success of ‘June’, will be playing the female lead in ‘Final’. The actress has previously worked with director Arun in a play titled ‘Hand of God’. He had also penned the screenplay of the Kunchacko Boban starrer ‘Jamnapyari’.

Along with Niranj and Rajisha, ‘Final’ will also have seasoned actors like Suraj Venjaramoodu, Tini Tom and Maniyanpilla Raju in prominent roles. The makers have planned to start shooting from April 10. Kattappana and Thiruvananthapuram have been finalized as the major locations. An official announcement will full details regarding the cast and crew is expected to be made very shortly.

Tovino Thomas starrer Kalki launched

Tovino Thomas’s new film ‘Kalki’ was launched last day with a formal switch on ceremony. The movie directed by debutant Praveen Prabharam has Tovino playing a police officer. Though, the actor has appeared as a cop in films like ‘Ezra’ and ‘Tharangam’, this will be his first film in which he plays a full fledged police officer role. ‘Kalki’ is also said to be his first full length mass entertainer and for the last few months he had been putting on a lot of efforts to develop a bulky physique.

‘Kalki’ is scripted by director Praveen and Sujin Sujathan. According to the makers, Tovino’s character in the movie will be on the lines of Mammootty’s iconic cop, Inspector Balram, who was a brash and forthright officer. It will be an action packed film with all commercial gimmicks.

Jakes Bejoy is handling the music department and Gautham Sankar of ‘Theevandi’ and ‘Ladoo’ fame will be cranking the camera. Suvin K Krishna and Prasobh Krishna are producing the movie under the banner of Little Big Films.

Saniya Iyappan as Jhanvi in Lucifer; Here’s her character poster

The 26 day-26 poster release by ‘Lucifer’ is coming to an end. As part of the poster series, today the makers released a new poster featuring Saniya Iyappan. The teenage actress, who made her debut last year with ‘Queen’, is playing a character named Jhanvi in this movie. If reports are to be believed, Saniya plays the role of Manju Warrier’s daughter in the movie. This is the youngster’s first outing with such a star studded team, so she will be hoping that the movie provides her a big carrer break.

‘Lucifer’ starring Mohanlal in the lead is directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran and scripted by Murali Gopy. The movie has a star studded cast comprising of Tovino Thomas, Vivek Oberoi, Indrajith Sukumaran, Manju Warrier, Bala, Kalabhavan Shajohn, Nyla Usha, Sai Kumar, Nandu, John Vijay, Sachin Khedekar, Fazil, Shaun Romy, Giju John, Baiju, Suresh Chandra Menon, Shivaji Guruvayoor, Aneesh G Menon and Kainakari Thankaraj.

‘Lucifer’ is being produced by Mohanlal’s own banner Aashirvad Cinemas. The makers are planning to release the movie on March 28, but an official word regarding the same is yet to be made.

Here’s the teaser of Vijay Sethupathi starrer Sindhubaadh

As informed earlier by the makers of ‘Sindhubaadh’, the movie’s teaser got released a while back in social medias. The movie directed by SU Arun Kumar stars Vijay Sethupathi and Anjali in the lead roles. From the teaser, it looks like an action packed mass entertainer. The first look poster, which was released in January on Vijay Sethupathi’s birthday, also hinted at an action flick.

Director SU Arun Kumar has previously helmed ‘Pannaiyarum Padminiyum’ and ‘Sethupathi’, both starring Vijay Sethupathi. Reportedly, the director spent around two years to script ‘Sindhubaadh’. Major portions of the movie have been shot in Malaysia. Linga, Vivek Prasanna and Vijay Sethupathi’s son Surya are also part of the movie’s supporting cast.

The movie has cinematography by Vijay Karthik Kannan and music by Yuvan Shankar Raja.Ruben is handling the edits.SN Rajarajan of K Productions is jointly funding the movie with Shan Sudharshan of Vansan Movies.

Thalapathy 64: Mohan Raja to reunite with Vijay!

Speculations about director Mohan Raja reuniting with Vijay have been doing the rounds for over a year now. The duo had earlier worked together in ‘Velayudham’. After that, the director had often expressed his wish to work with Vijay again. Recently in a college function, while interacting with the students, the director revealed that they will soon be teaming up and things will be confirmed shortly.

Mohan Raja is popular for helming hit films like ‘M Kumaran Son Of Mahalakshmi’, ‘Unnakum Ennakum’ and ‘Santosh Subramaniam’. Post-‘Thani Oruvan’, the director has stayed away from commercial potboilers and has been determined to make meaningful movies that pass a message to the society.

While ‘Thani Oruvan’ was about medical mafia, his last release, ‘Velaikaaran’ dealt with food adulteration and how a slum dweller fights against the corporates. A Vijay-Mohan Rajan film is something exciting to look forward to as the director knows the pulse of the audience. With such a big star like Vijay, it is certain that the director would attempt something hard-hitting for the society.

Vijay meanwhile is busy shooting for his new film with director Atlee. Said to be a sports based flick, the movie has Nayanthara as the female lead. Mohan Raja has also announced a sequel for ‘Thani Oruvan’.

Syam Pushkaran’s next will be a thriller

There was a time when a scriptwriter’s name would attract the Malayali audience to theatres. Those were the heydays of MT Vasudevan Nair, Reghunath Paleri and Lohithadas. From the current generation, if there is any writer who could do the same, it has to be Syam Pushkaran. Barely ten films old, Syam has already carved a niche for himself in the industry. All his recent works have been well received and has made him a favourite in social media circles.

Syam’s last film, ‘Kumbalangi Nights, which is also only his second as an independent writer, has emerged as a hit, both critically and commercially. Ever since its release, there have been lot of rumours about his next film. In a recent interview, Syam had said that he would soon be scripting a film for director Dileesh Pothan, with whom he had collaborated in the National award winning films, ‘Mahehsinte Prathikaram’ and ‘Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum’.
Other details about the film were not divulged.

More recently, during an interaction session, Syam revealed that he is attempting to script a thriller next. He has often expressed his wish to explore different genres like how KG George did. It remains to be seen if Syam’s next with Pothan turns out to be a thriller. Their films normally fall under the slice-of-life realistic category, so it will be interesting to see how they make a full-fledged thriller film.An official confirmation in this regard is still awaited.

After June, Friday Film House to reunite with Mudhugauv director for Vaazha

Vijay Babu’s Friday Film House is unarguably one of the most successful banners in Malayalam film industry. They have introduced several bright talents and most of whom went on to carve a niche for themselves. In the ten films they have produced so far, eight of them were directed by debutants. Their last release ‘June’ had a group of newcomers; both on and off the screen. The movie emerged as a hit, further inspiring the banner to make films with new talents.

Friday Film House’s next will be helmed by Vipin Das, who made his debut in 2016 with ‘Mudhugauv’, also produced under the same banner. As per our sources within the industry, their new movie has been titled as ‘Vaazha’. A bunch of newcomers will be playing the lead roles and the makers have already released the casting call for the same.

They are on the look for a male actor from the age group of 18-26 to play the hero and female actor aged between 16-22 for heroine. Child actors, both male and female, between the age group of 6-12 are also being sought. More details are expected to be formally announced shortly.

As we already know, R Madhavan is starring in the biopic of scientist Nambi Narayanan. The movie titled as ‘Rocketry – The Nambi Effect’ also marks Madhavan’s directorial debut. For the last few months, the actor had been in the process of putting on weight as they will be shooting his aged portions first. The actor has now released a video via YouTube which shows his stunning fat-to-fit transformation in just 12 days time. He has also clearly mentioned that didn’t go through any intense fasting or any kind surgery to reduce weight. Earlier, he had also gone long beard and hair to look strikingly similarity to Nambi Narayanan.

‘Rocketry’, said to be one of the most challenging films in his career, will have him appearing in multiple looks. He was supposed to direct the film jointly with Anant Mahadevan but the latter opted out due to some unknown reasons. Prajesh Sen, a journalist-turned-filmmaker from Kerala, who made his directorial debut with the Jayasurya starrer ‘Captain’, is part of ‘Rocketry’ team as the co-director.

Nambi Narayanan was a cryogenic division head at the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). In 1994, he was falsely charged with espionage and arrested. The charges against him were later dismissed by the CBI and the Supreme Court declared him not guilty. ‘Rocketry’, the movie, is based on Nambi Narayanan’s book ‘Ready to fire: How India and I survived the ISRO spy case’, which details about the controversial case and his infamous arrest. The movie has been planned as a multilingual in three languages – Tamil, English and Hindi.

Dileep-Anu Sithara starrer Shubharathri starts rolling

Dileep’s new movie ‘Shubharathri’ has gone on floors today. The movie is written and directed by Vyasan KP. Siddique and Anu Sithara have been cast in crucial roles. Abraham Mathew of Abaam Movies is producing the movie. Today’s customary switch on ceremony was attended by Dileep, Anu Sithara, Vyasan, Siddique, scriptwriter Udhayakrishna and Sheelu Abraham.

Director Vyasan last helmed the critically acclaimed film, ‘Ayal Jeevichiruppund’. He had also written the screenplay for ‘Avatharam’, which also had Dileep in the lead. According to the makers, ‘Shubharathri’, is a movie based on some real life events and has high scope of performance for its lead actors.

The movie has an elaborate supporting cast comprising of Nedumudi Venu, Sai Kumar, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Indrans, Nadirshah, Hareesh Peradi, Manikandan, Saiju Kurup, Sudhi Koppa, Santhosh Keezhattoor, Prashanth, Shanthi Krishna, Asha Sarath, KPAC Lalitha and Thesni Khan.

Alby will be cranking the camera and music department will be handled by Bijibal. Aroma Mohan is producing and distributing the movie, shoot for which is set to commence next week.

Bhadran’s next to have Soubin Shahir in the lead

Talks about director Bhadran making a comeback has been doing the rounds for some time. Earlier, he was supposed to do an action thriller with Mohanlal but the movie got postponed due to the star’s date issues. We now hear that Bhadran is set to direct a film with Soubin Shahir in the lead. S Suresh Babu, who has penned films like ‘Nadan’, ‘Shikkar’ and ‘Kanal’, is scripting this upcoming movie as well. There is a buzz that the movie has been titled as ‘Ponnum Kurishu’, but it it yet to be confirmed.

Bhadran is a director well known for helming films like ‘Spadikam’, ‘Iyer The Great’ and ‘Yuvathurki’. His rapport with Mohanlal is quite popular as they have delivered hits like ‘Spadikam’, ‘Uncle Bun’, ‘Olympian Anthony Adam’. It will be interesting to see him collaborate with Soubin Shahir.

Ever since the superhit success of ‘Sudani From Nigeria’, Soubin has been getting many big offers. Of late, the State award winner has slowed down considerably and has been very choosy. His last release ‘Kumbalangi Nights’ has become a bit hit while also earning him critical appreciation. He has John Paul George’s ‘Ambili’, ‘Trance’ and debutant Ratheesh Balakrishnan Poduval’s ‘Android Kunjappan Ver 5.25’ coming up.
