Kalabhavan Shajohn’s directorial debut Brother’s Day starring Prithviraj to be launched tomorrow

As we already know, actor Kalabhavan Shajohn is turning a director with a movie titled ‘Brother’s Day’. Prithviraj Sukumaran is playing the lead role in the movie, which according to him is a complete commercial entertainer. The movie will be launched tomorrow (March 9) morning at St Antony’s Shrine, Kaloor in Kochi. Listin Stephen’s Magic Frames is backing the movie, which has reportedly been planned to be made on a budget of around Rs 15 crores.

‘Brother’s Day’ will be the much-needed change for Prithviraj, as he been doing a lot of experimental films lately. This one is expected to be a full-on mass entertainer with all necessary commercial elements in it. The actor has pinned high hopes on it and firmly believes that Shajohn will make a good filmmaker.

Shajohn had initially approached Prithviraj with the script two years back to get an idea about who will be apt to direct it. Impressed by the script and the detailing in it,it was Prithvi who asked Shajohn to direct it himself. Official: Sivakarthikeyan’s next is with this National award winning filmmaker

Riding on a string of hits under his belt, Sivakarthikeyan has fast cemented his place among Tamil cinema’s top league of stars. The actor, who already has a slew of projects in his kitty, has signed yet a new one. He will be teaming up with director Pandiraj for a new movie to be produced by Sun Pictures. The official announcement was made today through the production house’s Twitter handle. It must be remembered that Pandiraj was the one who introduced Sivakarthikeyan in cinema with his film ‘Marina’. Later, they also worked together in ‘Kedi Billa Killadi Ranga’.

Director Pandiraj is well known for his films like ‘Pasanga’, ‘Kathakali’ and ‘Kadaikutty Singam’. ‘Pasanga’, which was his debut film had won him a couple of National awards. Expectations will be high when he reunites with Sivakarthikeyan, who is a much bigger star now. Their film is most likely to be a fun entertainer, the actor’s forte.

Sivakarthikeyan is currently shooting for ‘Indru Netru Naalai’ fame Ravikumar’s science-fiction film, which has music by maestro AR Rahman. ‘Mr Local, his upcoming rom-com helmed by Rajesh is gearing up for release in May. The actor has also committed for films with directors PS Mithran and Vignesh Shivn.

Mohanlal allots 45 days for Resul Pookutty’s film

While filmmakers in the west have already dived deep into the digital world of cinema, Indian filmmakers are slowly starting to explore the possibilities of this medium. In the last couple of years, several web series and films have been made in India, but most of them from Bollywood. Down South, things are still in the nascent stage.

Academy Award winning sound designer Resul Pookutty is now trying his hand in direction. Though his directorial debut will be a Bollywood mainstream film, he is also planning a web cinema. Malayalam superstar Mohanlal will be playing the lead role in this movie. Resul himself revealed this in a recent interview.

With this, Mohanlal will most probably the first superstar from the South to act in a web film. The star has allotted 45 days from his packed schedule for this project. According to Result, it is a very subject and script works have already been completed. An US based company is producing the movie. More details are expected to be revealed shortly.

Mohanlal is currently shooting for ‘Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham’. He recently finished his portions for ‘Kaappaan’, the upcoming Tamil film which also stars Suriya in the lead. ‘Ittymaani Made In China’ with director duo Jibi-Joju, ‘Big Brother’ with Siddique and an untitled film with Arun Gopy are his other projects in the pipeline. His next release will be the Prithviraj directorial ‘Lucifer’, which is scheduled to hit screens by this month end.

Mohanlal’s Ittymaani Made in China to start rolling in Singapore

As informed earlier, Mohanlal will start shooting for ‘Ittymaani Made In China’ from this month end. First schedule of the movie has been planned in Singapore. After shooting there for five days, the team will be shifting to Kerala. By then, Mohanlal will be wrapping up his portions for ‘Marakkar: Arabikalinte Simham’. Full fledged shoot will be commencing by the last week of April.

‘Ittymaani Made In China’ is to be directed by debutants Jibi and Joju. The movie will be an out and out comedy entertainer, something Mohanlal has not done of late. The actor will be speaking in Thrissur accent in the film. Interestingly, it is after three long decades that he will speaking in this particular slang. Last time, he played a typical Thrissur native was in Padmarajan’s cult-classic, ‘Thoovanathumbikal’. Mohanlal’s performance and his dialogue delivery in the movie is still fresh among the Malayali audience.

Reportedly, the makers of ‘Ittymaani’ have signed Honey Rose as the female lead. This will be her second film with Mohanlal after playing his pair in the Padmakumar directorial ‘Kanal’. Dharmajan Bolgatty, Hareesh Kanaran and veteran Tamil actress Radhika Sarathkumar will also be part of the cast.

Antony Perumbavoor is producing the movie under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas. Ernakulam and Trissur have been zeroed in as the major locations.

From Ponthan Mada to Pengalila; Ace filmmaker TV Chandran’s next gears up for release

TV Chandran is unarguably one of the finest filmmakers that Malayalam cinema has had. A recipient of six National Film Awards and ten Kerala State Film Awards, Chandran is widely regarded for having revolutionised parallel cinema with his complex-structured art-house films. Some of his most popular films include ‘Dani’, ‘Ponthan Mada’, ‘Susanna’ and ‘Kathavasheshan’. Seven years after the release of his last film, ‘Bhoomiyude Avakashikal’, the director is back with his new film, ‘Pengalila’.

Starring Lal and Akshara Kishore in the leads, ‘Pengalila’ is primarily about two characters – the 75-year-old Azhagan and an 8-year-old Radha. Azhagan, played by Lal, is a low-caste daily worker who works at Radha’s home. The movie explores the heartwarming relationship between these two individuals. Azhagan’s past life and the solitary life of Radha’s mother is also discussed in the movie. Child actor Akshara plays Radha’s role.

The movie has elaborate supporting cast comprising of Naren, Renji Panicker, Indrans, Ineya, Basil Paulose, Noushad, Priyanka Nair, Neetu Chandran and Ambili Sunil. Santhosh Thundiyil has cranked the camera and songs composed by Vishnu Mohan Sithara. Bijibal handles the background score.

After Rajinikanth film, AR Murugadoss to direct Allu Arjun?

It is already known that director AR Murugadoss’s next film will be with superstar Rajinikanth. Pre-production works for the movie is still progressing and the makers have already finalized Santosh Sivan as the cinematographer and Anirudh Ravichander as the composer. Shoot is expected to commence very shortly.

Buzz is that after the completion of Rajinikanth’s film, Murugadoss will be joining hands with Telugu star Allu Arjun for a big budget trilingual film. Though ARM has worked with Tollywood stars like Chiranjeevi and Mahesh Babu, this will be his first film with Allu Arjun. As per trustworthy reports, the director is planning to attempt new genre with Allu. Official word in this regard is still awaited.

Kalidas Jayaram starts shooting for Happy Sardar

Kalidas Jayaram’s new movie ‘Happy Sardar’ has gone on floors. Shoot for the movie commenced last day in Punjab. Writer-director couple Sudip Joshy and his wife Geethika Sudip are making their debut this movie. Kalidas playing a Sardarji named Happy Singh in the film. The movie comes with the tagline, ‘the great Indian wedding comedy’.

‘Happy Sardar’, according to the makers, is a fun entertainer that has a love story between a Punjabi and a Malayali Christian girl at its core. Merin Philip has been signed as the female lead. Bollywood actor Javed Jaffrey is also playing a major role. There is also an elaborate supporting cast comprising of Siddique, Sreenath Bhasi, Balu Varghese, Shanthi Krishna, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Siddhi Mahajankatti, Vishak Nair, Ramesh Pisharody, Dharmajan Bolgatty, Praveena and Baiju Santhosh.

On the technical front, cinematography is being handled by Abhinandam Ramanujam and music is by Gopi Sunder. Shameer Muhammed is the editor. Achicha Cinemas and Malayalam Movie Makers are jointly producing the movie.

Dhanush’s next film starts rolling

We had recently reported about Dhanush signing a film with director Durai Senthil Kumar. The movie produced by Sathya Jyothi Films got launched last day with a customary switch on and pooja function. Dhanush has previously worked with the director in ‘Kodi’, which was an average grosser. Expectations are high when the duo reunite this time.

This yet-to-be titled film has Sneha playing the female lead. She last worked with with Dhanush in the cult film ‘Puthupettai’, which was released way back in 2003. Genre or other details regarding their upcoming movie is not yet known. The movie has music by Vivek-Merwin duo and cinematography by Omprakash.

Dhanush has a highly promising line up of films coming up. He had recently shot for Vetrimaaran’s ‘Asuran’, which has Malayali actress Manju Warrier as the female lead. Dhanush has also signed films with ‘Pariyerum Perumal’ director Mari Selvaraj and ‘Ratsasan’ director Ram Kumar. The actor’s second directorial venture, which started rolling last September, has now been put on hold due to budget constraints. Said to be a period flick, the movie has him playing one of the leads alongside Telugu superstar Nagarjuna, Aditi Rao Hydari, SJ Suryah, Sarath Kumar and Srikanth.

Jeethu Joseph’s next to star Karthi and Jyothika

We had recently reported about Malayali filmmaker Jeethu Joseph planning a movie in Tamil with Karthi. The director has himself confirmed this in a interview. Latest buzz is that Jyothika will also be a part of the film. The director is considering her to play a very prominent role. If it materialises, this will be Karthi’s first film with his sister-in-law Jyothika.

Currently, Jeethu Joseph is working on the script with Rensil D’Silva and Manikandan. An official announcement with details regarding the full cast and crew will be made shortly. The makers are hoping to start shooting from April.

Karthi is presently shooting for his new film directed by ‘Maanagaram’ fame Lokesh Kanagaraj. He also has a couple of other projects in his kitty. Confirmed: Simbu and Hansika reunite

Hansika Motwani is currently shooting for her 50th film which has been titled as Maha. Debutant UR Jameel is directing the movie, which is a heroine-centric film. Actor Simbu has now joined the team. He will be playing a cameo role in the movie. Hansika took to her official Twitter handle to share the news. She shared a picture of the two holding hands. It must be remembered that the two were in a relationship in the past, which did not work out.

‘Maha’ is Hansika’s third film with Simbu. They have previously worked together in ‘Vettai Mannan’, which got shelved, and the Vijay Chander directorial ‘Vaalu’. Simbu has reportedly given a seven-day callsheet for ‘Maha’ and his scenes are currently being shot in Istanbul. He plays a character named Shoiab and his portions will appear in the flashback.

‘Maha’ director Jameel is a former associate of director Lakshman, who has directed films such as ‘Romeo Juliet’ and ‘Bogan’. Interestingly, both the films had Hansika as the female lead.
