Handful of promising projects coming up for Dileep

After being extremely choosy for the last two years, it seems like actor Dileep is now on a signing spree. He has signed for films with both newcomers and senior filmmakers. As per our sources, he already has around five films in his kitty. He will soon be joining the sets of ‘Shubharathri’ directed by Vyasan KP. The movie also starring Siddique and Anu Sithara in major roles is said to be based on real life events. Shoot for the movie is scheduled to commence on March 12.

Dileep still has a few portions left to be completed for his ambitious film ‘Professor Dinkan’. The movie directed by Ramachandra Babu is being entirely made in 3D format. It is expected to hit screens some time by the second half of this year. ‘Parakkum Pappan’ with debutant Viyan Vishnu, ‘Pickpocket’ with P Balachandra Kumar and ‘Jack Daniel’ with Jayasurya are some of Dileep’s other upcoming projects. He has also committed for films with veterans Joshiy and Priyadarshan. His film with Joshiy will be a thriller based on the events in the media industry, much similar to the director’s 2012 hit film, ‘Run Baby Run’

Poornima Indrajith eyes a grand comeback to acting

Poornima Indrajith has been on a break from movies for some time now. Ever since getting married to Indrajith, Poornima stayed away from cinema. However, she still hogged the limelight with TV anchoring and later by taking up fashion designing. Now it seems like Poornima is all set for a big comeback to where she actually belongs. She has signed for two real biggies – ‘Virus’ and ‘Thuramukham’. Interestingly, both these films also stars her husband, Indrajith.

While shoot for Aashiq Abu’s ‘Virus’ has already been completed, ‘Thuramukham’ directed by Rajeev Ravi, is yet to go on floors. ‘Virus’, based on the Nipah outbreak, has one of the biggest star cast that Malayalam cinema has ever seen. Tovino Thomas, Asif Ali, Kunchacko Boban, Parvathy, Rima Kallingal, Soubin Shahir, Dileesh Pothan, Rahman, Remya Nambeeshan, Madonna Sebastian, Revathy and Joju George are also part of the movie.

‘Thuramukham’ scripted by Gopan Chidambaram is based on the historic protests against the inhuman ‘chappa’ system, that existed in Cochin harbour during the 50s, wherein copper coins were thrown to waiting workers in a primitive ‘work guarantee’ scheme, which had resulted in police firing and martyrdom of three labourers in Mattancherry. Poornima will be starring alongside actors like Nivin Pauly, Biju Menon and Nimisha Sajayan.

We had recently reported about Dileep signing a new film with director Vyasan KP. The movie has been titled as ‘Shubharathri’ and its shoot is set to commence from the second week of March. Along with Dileep, the movie also stars veteran actor Siddique, Anu Sithara has been roped in as the female lead.

Director Vyasan last helmed the critically acclaimed ‘Ayal Jeevichiruppund’. He had also written the screenplay for ‘Avatharam’, also starring Dileep. As per trustworthy reports, his upcoming film, ‘Shubharathri’, is based on true events. The movie will have high scope for performance for the lead actors.

‘Shubharathri’ also has a solid supporting cast comprising of Nedumudi Venu, Sai Kumar, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Indrans, Nadirshah, Hareesh Peradi, Manikandan, Saiju Kurup, Sudhi Koppa, Santhosh Keezhattoor, Prashanth, Shanthi Krishna, Asha Sarath, Sheelu Abraham, KPAC Lalitha and Thesni Khan.

Asif Ali’s OP 160/18 Kakshi Amminippilla gears up for release next month

Asif Ali starrer OP 160/18 Kakshi : Amminippilla is getting ready to hit screens in April. Last day, the makers released a new poster of the movie featuring Asif and Ahmed Siddique. The movie directed by debutant Dinjith Ayyathan has Asif playing an advocate for the first time in his career.

Scripted by Sanilesh Shivan, the movie is a court-room drama set in Thalassery. The story is centred around the case of a newly wed couple Shajith Kumar Amminipilla and his wife Kanthi Sivadasan. The former approaches advocate Pradeepan Manjodi, a political aspirant who initially refuses but later takes up the case, which gives the storyline a twist.

While Asif essays the role of advocate Pradeepan, Ahmed Siddique plays the role of Amminippilla. Basil Joseph also plays an advocate in the movie. Others in the cast include Vijayaraghavan, Nirmal Palazhy, Sudheesh, Mamukkoya, Sreekanth Murali, Lukman, Babu Annur, Aswathy Manoharan, Shibla and Sarayu Mohan.

The movie has songs composed by Arun Muraleedharan and Samuel Aby while background score is done by Jakes Bejoy. Cinematographer Bahul Ramesh and editor Sooraj ES are also part of the core technical crew. Riju Rajan is producing the movie under the banner of Zarah Films.

We were among the first to report about Nivin Pauly teaming up with director Rajeev Ravi for a movie titled ‘Thuramukham’. Last day, the movie’s first look poster was released online. The movie has a stellar star cast comprising of Nivin, Biju Menon, Indrajith Sukumaran, Nimisha Sajayan, Arjun Ashokan, Poornima Indrajith and Manikandan R Achari. This is the first time all these talented actors are coming together and it promises to be nothing short of a treat for the Malayali audience.

As the title ‘Thuramukham’ suggests, the movie revolves around a harbour and the lives of coastal people. We hear that it is a story set in the Cochin harbour in the early 1950s. KM Chidambaran had earlier written a play named ‘Thuramukham’. Rajeev Ravi’s movie is supposedly inspired from this play. The playwright’s son, Gopan Chidambaram, a scenarist, who has previously co-written ‘Iyobinte Pusthakam’, is scripting the movie.

Shoot is expected to commence soon after all the lead actors are free from their ongoing commitments.

‘Kumbalangi Nights’, the latest sensational hit from Malayalam is winning hearts of audience across all age groups and languages. Recently, Tamil actor Karthi watched the movie and he seems to have been totally in love with it. Taking to his official Twitter handle, Karthi has written,

#KumbalangiNights is so beautiful. The movie just flows so seamlessly. Soulful and funny at the sametime. Wish I could make a film like this someday.

Directed by debutant Madhu C Narayanan, ‘Kumbalangi Nights’ is a family drama revolving around four friends, played by Soubin Shahir, Sreenath Bhasi, Shane Nigam and Mathew Thomas. Fahadh Faasil essays a negative role in the film. Anna Ben and Grace Antony play the female leads.

Syam Pushkaran’s wonderfully layered script, the actors’ performances and all the technical aspects beautifully jell together to form what is a near flawless film. Besides the unanimous critical acclaim, the movie is also doing extremely well at the box office. Within a month from its release, the movie has already emerged as a commercial blockbuster.

‘Kumabalangi Nights’ is produced jointly by Dileesh Pothan, Syam Pushkaran and Fahadh Faasil under the banners of Working Class Hero and Fahadh Faasil and Friends.

Prabha starrer ‘Saaho’ is one of the most awaited Indian movies this year. The movie directed by Sujeeth is a high octane action thriller made on an international scale. Saaho’s lead actress Shraddha Kapoor is celebrating her birthday today. So, the makers have taken this occasion to release a new sneak peak video, which is packed with glimpses of some riveting action blocks.

‘Saaho’ is being made as a trilingual in Telugu, Hindi and Tamil languages. In an attempt to give a pan-Indian appeal, the movie has actors from various industries as part of its cast. Jackie Shroff, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Chunky Pandey, Mandira Bedi, Mahesh Manjrekar, Arun Vijay, Lal and Tinnu Anand are playing prominent roles in the movie.

As per the makers, ‘Saaho’ is being made on a whopping budget of Rs 300 crore, of which Rs 90 crore is spent on the action sequences alone. Popular stuntman Kenny Bates, who has worked in several Hollywood films, is choreographing the stunts in this movie. The technical crew includes DOP Madhie, composer trio Shankar Ehsaan Loy and VFX supervisor Kamalakannan.

Vamsi Krishna Reddy and Pramod Uppalapati are jointly funding this movie under the banner of UV Creations. The makers have formally announced that the movie will be hitting screens worldwide on August 15, 2019.

After Marakkar, Priyadarshan to team up with Dileep

Of late, Dileep has been on a signing spree. The actor is teaming up with some of the leading filmmakers in the industry for big projects. He already has around five films in his kitty and the latest we hear is that he has committed for yet another one. In a recent interview, Dileep revealed that he would soon be teaming up with ace filmmaker Priyadarshan. However, details regarding the movie’s genre or when shoot commences were not divulged.

Dileep and Priyadarshan have previously worked together in ‘Megham’ and ‘Vettam’. As both the actor and the director are known for their penchant for humour, we can expect to see an out and out fun entertainer from this combo. Both of them are currently busy with their respective projects.

While Priyadarshan is busy working on his magnum opus film, ‘Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham’, Dileep recently started shooting for ‘Shubharathri’. The movie directed by KP Vyasan also stars Nadiya Moidu, Anu Sithara and Siddique in major roles.

We had already reported about Dhanush reuniting with his ‘Kodi’ director Durai Senthil Kumar. Sathya Jyothi Films is producing the movie, which is set to go on floors shortly. As per latest reports, the makers have got Sneha to play the female lead. She last appeared with Dhanush in the cult film ‘Puthupettai’, which was released way back in 2003. Genre or other details regarding their upcoming movie is not yet known. Vivek-Merwin duo will be composing music for the film.

Dhanush currently has a highly promising line up of films coming up. He is presently shooting for multiple National award winner Vetrimaaran’s ‘Asuran’, which has Malayali actress Manju Warrier as the female lead. Dhanush has also signed for films with ‘Pariyerum Perumal’ director Mari Selvaraj and ‘Ratsasan’ director Ram Kumar. The actor’s second directorial venture, which started rolling last September, has now been put on hold due to budget constraints. Said to be a period flick, the movie has him playing one of the leads alongside Telugu superstar Nagarjuna, Aditi Rao Hydari, SJ Suryah, Sarath Kumar and Srikanth.

Lal Jose’s next with Biju Menon and Nimisha titled as Nalpathiyonnu

As reported by us recently, Biju Menon’s next film will be directed by veteran Lal Jose. Last year’s Kerala State Award winner Nimisha Sajayan has been signed as the female lead. The movie titled as ‘Nalpathiyonnu’ is all set to start rolling from this Monday in Thalassery. Prageesh PG, a former journalist, is scripting the movie, which is reportedly set in the backdrop of the socio-politcal issues in Kannur.

This is the first time Biju Menon and Nimisha are coming together for a film, so it will be interesting to see them share screen space. Suresh Krishna and Indrans have also been cast in major roles. A few theatre artists and newcomers will also be seen essaying prominent roles in the movie. In the technical side, S Kumar will be cranking the camera and edits will be by Ranjan Abraham.

Biju Menon currently has two films gearing up for release. One is ‘Sathyam Paranja Vishwasikuvo’, directed by G Prajith of ‘Oru Vadakkan Selfie’ fame. The movie is scripted by National award winner Sajeev Pazhoor, who penned the widely acclaimed ‘Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum’ (TD). Another Biju Menon starrer that is getting ready is ‘Mera Naam Shaji’ directed by Nadirshah. The movie has him playing one of the leads along with Asif Ali and Baiju.
