Maamaankam third schedule wrapped up in Kochi

After getting tangled in a few controversies, shoot for Mammootty’s period flick ‘Maamaankam’ got resumed by the first week of February. A new set of actors and technicians were added to the team. Replacing original director Sajeev Pillai, veteran M Padmakumar is helming the film now. The makers have now successfully wrapped up the third schedule in Kochi. A brief note in the movie’s official social media handle reads,

The third schedule of the movie Maamaankam saw an epitome of acting skills, technical wonders and action sequences which got wrapped up today in Kochi, marking the beginning of the biggest set work Malayalam cinema has ever seen till date.

Lead actor Mammootty was not part of the third schedule was he was busy shooting for the Khalid Rahman directorial ‘Unda’. He is expected to join ‘Maamaankam’ team only after the completion of ‘Unda’.

‘Maamaankam’ is based on the medieval fair, Maamaankam, where brave warriors from various regions would come together to showcase their skills at combat. Mammootty plays the lead role of a fiery ‘Chaaver’ (warrior) in this movie, which revolves around the life of warriors who plot to defeat the Zamorin rulers. Unni Mukundan is also said to be playing a warrior’s role in the movie. Kaniha and Anu Sithara play the two female leads.

Venu Kunnappilly is producing ‘Maamaankaam’ under the banner of Kavya Films. The makers are planning to wrap up the shoot quickly and release the movie this year itself.

Worldwide Films bag GCC rights of Oru Yamandan Premakadha

‘Oru Yamandan Premakadha’ (OYP) is Dulquer Salmaan’s much awaited comeback film to Malayalam. The actor is making a return after over a year and expectations are humongous. The movie is expected to have a grand opening at the box office worldwide. Its GCC rights have already been acquired by Worldwide Films. So it is most likely that the movie will have a simultaneous release in Kerala as well as GCC centres.

OYP directed by BC Noufal is touted to be a full-on commercial mass entertainer. The superhit writer duo of Bibin George and Vishnu Unnikrishnan. ‘OYP’ is expected to be on the lines of the writer duo’s previous works, ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’ and ‘Kattappanayile Rithwik Roshan’. The location stills and colourful first look poster hints at the same.

Nikhila Vimal and ‘Theevandi’ fame Samyuktha Menon play the two female leads. Soubin Shahir, Salim Kumar, Arun Kurian, Hareesh Kanaran, Dharmajan Bolgatty, Bibin George and Vishnu Unnikrishnan are also part of the supporting cast. Nadirshah is composing the songs.

Anto Joseph is producing the movie under his banner, Anto Joseph Film Company. An official word regarding the exact release date is still awaited.

The official trailer of Tamil movie ‘July Kaatril’ is out on social medias. The movie stars Ananth Nag as the male lead. He is noted for his roles in movies like ‘Amara Kaaviyam’, ‘Vetrivel’ and ‘Neram’. This upcoming romantic comedy is directed by KC Sundaram, former assistant of Jeeva.

Malayali actresses Anju Kurian and Samyuktha Menon play the two female leads in the movie. While Anju has appeared in films like ‘Premam’, ‘Kavi Udheshichathu’ and ‘Njan Prakashan’, the latter is now a popular figure after ‘Theevandi’ and ‘Lilli’. Comedian Satish and Paloma Monappa are also part of the supporting cast.

According to the makers,’July Kaatril’ is about the transitions that a youngster undergoes when he meets three women during various phases of his life. It will be a breezy romantic film. Joshua Sridhar is composing the music and is produced by Saravanan Palaniappan under the banner of Kaviya Enterntainments.

Suriya 38: Suriya’s next is a biopic on the founder of Air Deccan

Unlike in Bollywood, where biopics are regularly churned out one after another, South cinema has had very few such films. It now seems like actor Suriya is set to do a big budget flick in Tamil. The movie tentatively titled as ‘Suriya 38’ is said to be a biopic G.R.Gopinath, the founder of Air Deccan and a retired captain of the Indian army. Sudha Kongara of ‘Irudhi Suttru’ fame will be directing the movie.

GR Gopinath is known as the pioneer of India’s low-cost flying. His Air Deccan was India’s first budget airline. ‘Suriya 38’, will be backed by the actor’s own banner 2D Entertainment. Guneet Monga, who recently bagged the prestigious Oscar for her critically-acclaimed documentary production, ‘Period. End of Sentence’, will also be making her entry to Kollywood with this movie.

Guneet’s Sikhya Entertainment will be joining hands with 2D Entertainment for the movie’s production. The movie has been in planning for nearly two years now, but got postponed multiple times due the actor’s busy schedule. Suriya is expected to start shooting for the movie soon after wrapping up the shoot of the KV Anand directorial, ‘Kaappaan’.

The official trailer of John Abraham starrer ‘RAW – Romeo Akbar Walter’ was released just a while back. From the trailer, it it seems like another film about an Indian spy based in Pakistan. John Abraham, the poster boy of patriotic films after Akshay Kumar, has put in great efforts for this film. He appears in multiple looks to play this intense role of a RAW agent in Pakistan.

Written and directed by Robbie Grewal, the movie also stars veteran Jackie Shroff and ‘Gold’ fame Mouni Roy in prominent roles.
‘Romeo Akbar Walter’ is set against the backdrop of the Indo-Pakistan War of 1971. John plays the three titular roles and sports entirely looks for each character.

In an earlier interview, he had said that he will be sporting eight different looks in the film. He is quoted saying, “I will play everything from a 85-year-old man to a 26-year-old and this is the most challenging role of my life. I get a good nervous energy when I am prepping for a difficult film and RAW is in that space.”

‘RAW – Romeo Akbar Walter’ is scheduled for a grand worldwide release on April 5.

Vinayan to team up with Mohanlal and Jayasurya for his upcoming projects

Director Vinayan is gearing up to start works for the sequel to his superhit horror flick, ‘Aakasha Ganga’. Casting and other pre-production works are progressing and shoot will be commencing in April. Vinayan has three other projects in the pipeline. He will be doing a historic film titled ‘Nangeli’ apart from a film each with stars, Mohanlal and Jayasurya.

In a recent Facebook post, Vinayan has briefed about his plans. After the completion of ‘Aakasha Ganga 2’, he will be starting works on his film with Mohanlal. When the project was originally announced last month, it came as a big surprise. It must be remembered that the two have always been in opposite sides during the conflicts within the industry. Putting all their past issues behind, Vinayan and Mohanlal are now coming together for a film.

According to the director, he has three scripts ready for Mohanlal and after a few rounds of discussion, they will soon be finalizing the project. Since both parties are currently busy with other commitments, their film will only happen in 2020.

Vinayan is also set to reunite with actor Jayasurya, whom he introduced as a lead actor with ‘Oomappenninu Uriyadappayyan’, released way back in 2002. Later, they also worked together in ‘Kattuchembakam’, ‘Vellinakshathram’, and ‘Hareendran Oru Nishkalankan’. More details about their new film is expected to be officially announced shortly.

Nalpathiyonnu: Lal Jose’s next with Biju Menon and Nimisha starts rolling

We were among the first to report about director Lal Jose roping in Biju Menon and Nimisha Sajayan for his new movie. Though the makers are yet to announce the title officially, we hear it has been christened as ‘Nalpathiyonnu’. Shoot for the movie commenced today in Kannur with a customary switch on. Biju Menon sports a long bearded look in the film.

Scripted by Prageesh PG, a former journalist, this movie is reportedly set in the backdrop of the socio-politcal issues in Kannur. The basic thread revolves around an atheist and a devotee. Going by his look and attire, Biju Menon supposedly plays the latter in the film. This is the first time Biju Menon and Nimisha are coming together for a film, so it will be interesting to see them share screen space.

Suresh Krishna and Indrans have also been cast in major roles. A few theatre artists and newcomers will also be seen essaying prominent roles in the movie. In the technical side, S Kumar will be cranking the camera and edits will be by Ranjan Abraham.

Vijay Sethupathi, fondly called as Makkal Selvan, has always been on the forefront when it comes to welfare activities. Recently, the actor donated two white tigers Aarthi and Aditya from Arignar Anna Zoological park in Chennai. He visited the zoo and handed over a cheque worth Rs 5 lakh to the authorities for welfare of the animals. Interestingly, Vijay Sethupathi is not the first actor from Tamil industry to adopt a white tiger. Last year, Siva Karthikeyan had also adopted a white tiger named Anu.

On the work front, Vijay Sethupathi has several films in his kitty. He was last seen shooting for ‘Maamanithan’, directed by his mentor Seenu Ramasamy. The actor is set to make his Malayalam debut this year with ‘Marconi Mathai’, in which he will be playing one of the leads alongside Jayaram. Two of his films – ‘Sindhubaadh’ and ‘Super Deluxe’ are gearing up for release. Besides that, he has also committed for films with directors Vijay Chander, SP Jananathan, Venkata Krishna Roganth, Prabhu and Delhiprasad Deenadayal.

Tentatively titled as ‘Suriya 38’, the movie is reportedly a biopic on GR Gopinath the founder of Air Deccan, which is said to be India’s first budget airline. Suriya’s own banner 2D Entertainment is backing the movie.

As per latest reports, Academy award winner Guneet Monga will be making her entry to Tamil industry with this movie. She recently bagged the prestigious Oscar for her critically-acclaimed documentary production, Period. End of Sentence. Guneet, the founder of Sikhya Entertainment, has produced several acclaimed notable films like ‘Gangs of Wasseypur – Part 1’, ‘Peddlers’, ‘The Lunchbox’ and ‘Masaan’.

Madura Raja to have a simultaneous release in GCC and Kerala

The much awaited Mammootty starrer ‘Madura Raja’ is gearing up for Vishu release. The movie will have a simultaneous release in Kerala and GCC centres. Leading distribution company Phars Films have bagged the movie’s GCC rights. So we can expect a grand opening for the movie worldwide. The Vysakh directorial has megastar Mammootty reprising his character from the 2010 blockbuster film, ‘Pokkiri Raja’.

Udhayakrishna, who wrote the original along with Sibi K Thomas, has scripted this one independently. ‘Madura Raja’ has sky-high expectations majorly due to the fact that Vysakh-Udhayakrishna team’s last film ‘Pulimurugan’ emerged as a record breaking blockbuster. Mammootty fans are hoping that the duo can repeat the success this time as well.

Almost the same technical team from ‘Pulimurugan’ has been retained in ‘Madura Raja’ as well, which includes cinematographer Shaji Kumar, music director Gopi Sunder, action choreographer Peter Hein and editor Johnkutty. The movie also has an elaborate star cast comprising of four female leads in Anusree, Shamna Kasim, Anna Reshma and Mahima Nambiar. Sunny Leone has also performed a special dance number in the movie along with Mammootty. Tamil actor Jai is making his Malayalam debut by playing a prominent role. Jagapathi Babu will be seen as the villain.
