As we had reported earlier, actor-writer Anoop Menon turning a director with a movie titled ‘King Fish’. The movie has Anoop and director Ranjith playing the lead roles. A new poster featuring the two was shared online just a while back. Anoop Menon has also scripted the movie. It was originally supposed to be directed by VK Prakash but he had to opt out due to date issues.
‘King Fish’ is a rom-com that revolves around Bhaskara Varma, who is a member of a royal family. People fondly call him ‘neymeen Bhasi’ and the film gets its title from the English name of the fish, kingfish. Anoop Menon plays Bhaskara Varma’s role while director Ranjith essays the role of his maternal uncle Neelakanda Varma. Durga Krishna of ‘Vimaanam’ and ‘Pretham 2’ fame plays the female lead. Niranjana Anoop and director Lal Jose are also part of the cast.

In the technical front, still photographer Mahadevan Thampi is making his debut as a full fledged cinematographer. Ratheesh Vega is handling the music department in the movie. Amjith S Koya is producing the movie under the banner of Texas Film Factory.
Kodathi Samaksham Balan Vakeel takes a good opening at Kerala box office
Dileep starrer Kodathi Samaksham Balan hit screens across Kerala last day (February 21). The movie written and directed by B Unnikrishnan, has Dileep playing an advocate. Mamta Mohandas and Priya Anand play the female leads. Others in the cast include Suraj Venjaramoodu, Aju Varghese, Renji Panciker, Vamsi Krishna, Harish Uthaman, ‘Kalakeya’ Prabhakar, Bindu Panicker and Siddique.
The movie has opened to pretty good response from the audience. Though the critic reviews have been mixed, theatre response suggests that common audience have lapped up the movie. After having less occupancy in the early shows, the movie gradually picked up with good footfalls for the evening and night shows. As per trade experts, the movie has grossed Rs 81.50 lakhs on the opening day, which is the second highest for a Malayalam movie in Kerala this year. The long weekend is expected to be an advantage for the movie.
Kodathi Samaksham Balan Vakeel falls under the suspense drama cum thriller genre with comedy elements. It is a slightly different attempt from director B Unnikrishnan, who is known for helming in investigative crime thrillers. Dileep in the role of a struggling lawyer who has a stuttering problem is earning appreciation for his performance. With the support of families, the movie is expected to do well in the coming days.

Earlier in the day, an intense poster featuring Mohanlal, Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas, Vivek Oberoi and Indrajith Sukumaran was shared online. Another poster has now been leaked which features Mohanlal leading the masses.

Since Mohanlal is busy with multiple projects, it is not yet known when his film with Unnikrishnan will go on floors.
Mohanlal is currently shooting for ‘Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham’. He recently finished his portions for ‘Kaappaan’, the upcoming Tamil film which also stars Suriya in the lead. Vijay Sethupathi-Fahadh Faasil starrer Super Deluxe release date announced; Trailer out today
The two year-long-wait for National award winner Thiagarajan Kumararaja’s ‘Super Deluxe’ is finally coming to an end. The movie is all set to hit screens on March 29. The makers announced the release date last day with a new poster. The movie’s trailer will be out today evening at 4.30 PM.
‘Super Deluxe’, which is said to be an anthology, has an ensemble star cast lead by Fahadh Faasil, Vijay Sethupathi, Samantha, Mysskin, Gayatri and Ramya Krishnan. All the actors have pinned high hopes on the movie. Samantha, Fahadh Faasil and Vijay Sethupathi have repeatedly said this in their interviews.
Vijay Sethupathi plays the role of a transgender in one of the segments in the movie. Other than that, nothing much is known about the genre or the character details and that itself has raised the audience’s curiosity. Director Thiagarajan Kumararaja enjoys a huge fan following. His debut film, ‘Aaranya Kaandam’, was a cult-hit and went on to bag a couple of National awards as well. Expectations are naturally high as he is making a comeback after an eight-year-long gap.
‘Super Deluxe’ also has some of the finest technicians of South Indian cinema working in it. Directors Mysskin and Nalan Kumarasamy have penned the movie’s dialogues. PS Vinod, noted for his work in several hit Bollywood movies, is the cinematographer and Yuvan Shankar Raja handles the music department.

‘Kodathi Samkasham Balan Vakeel’, Dileep’s latest film with director B Unnikrishnan had pretty good pre-release hype. The lead character is an advocate with a stammering problem – a very intriguing set up. But does the movie live up to the promise? Let’s see.
Balakrishnan is a struggling advocate who is low on confidence. Though he is professionally efficient with a knack of cracking cases, his stuttering problem that comes with a dark past continues to haunt him. How the underdog Balan vakeel manages to triumph when faced with a major adversity is what the plot is all about.
B Unnikrishnan is a proven director when it comes to crime thrillers. Here, he attempts something different by clubbing comedy elements within a suspense thriller. The initial 20 minutes or so is a total mess and acts as big dampener. But the narrative gains momentum when the conflict part kicks in and the mandatory interval punch also works well. In the latter half, the screenplay again goes wayward but somehow gets to a point where the protagonist, Balan vakeel, unfolds the knots. The underdog does emerge victorious, but how convincing is it still remains a question.

Dileep as Balakrishnan had a challenging role to perform. Despite his earnest efforts, his performance appears caricaturish at times, especially in the initial few scenes, when supporting characters around him mock his speech disorder. Apart from him, none of the other actors had a meaty role to perform. Mamta Mohandas and Aju Varghese appear throughout the film with Dileep. While the former as the female lead played her part well, Aju Varghese in the side-kick role was terrible.
Siddique was hilarious and his character might be the next popular troll face. The immensely talented Suraj Venjaramoodu, who has been very choosy with his roles of late, disappoints big time. It is just a poor imitation of his own good-for-nothing aliyan roles from ‘Pokkiri Raja’ and ‘Life of Josutty’. There are a whole lot of non-Malayali actors like Harish Uthaman, Vamsi Krishna and ‘Kalakeya’ Prabhakar but none of them impress.

On the technical front, cinematography was apt and couple of action sequences were well choreographed. Despite not going over-the-top, the stunts pack a punch. Gopi Sunder’s background score was repetitive and impressive. The song ‘Then Panimathiye’ composed by Rahul Raj was pleasant.
Overall, ‘Kodathi Samaksham Balan Vakeel’ is a popcorn entertainer with its share of moments.
Jeethu Joseph’s next with Mohanlal will be an emotional thriller
Recently, there were reports about Jeethu Joseph directing a movie for Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA). It was said that Renji Panicker would be scripting the film and Mohanlal will be playing the lead in it. However, Jeethu has denied these reports. In a recent interview, the director divulged about his upcoming projects. Though he has confirmed doing a film for FEFKA in the near future, Renji Panicker and Mohanlal’s involvement have not yet been finalized.
Jeethu Joseph also added that he is currently working on a script for Mohanlal. According to him, it is an emotional thriller that is in no way related to the duo’s previous blockbuster, ‘Drishyam’. Mohanlal is yet to give dates for the film as he has a packed schedule ahead. Official announcement will be made only after the actor signs the dotted lines.
Jeethu meanwhile is set to make his second film in Tamil. Karthi has been signed as the lead for the movie, which is set to go on floors from April. His new film, ‘Mr and Mrs Rowdy’ starring Kalidas Jayaram and Aparna Balamurali is scheduled to hit screens tomorrow (February 22, Friday).
Director KV Anand’s upcoming biggie ‘Kaappaan’ is currently in the final stages of shoot. The movie starring Suriya, Mohanlal and Arya is touted to be an action packed thriller. Mohanlal recently completed shooting for his portions. The makers took to social medias to share a photo taken on the star’s last day of shoot. Lyca Productions is producing this big budget movie.
‘Kaappaan’ has Mohanlal playing the Indian Prime Minister’s role while Suriya will be seen as a high-rank National Security Guard (NSG) officer, who is in charge of the PM’s security. Mohanlal and Suriya had shot together for their combination scenes in London, Chennai and in several locations in North India. Boman Irani, Sayyeshaa and Samuthirakani are also part of the movie’s elaborate cast.

Here’s the first look poster of TV Chandran’s Pengalila
The first look poster of ace filmmaker TV Chandran’s new movie ‘Pengalila’ was released just a while back in social medias. The movie starring Lal in the lead is scheduled for release on March 8. Lal plays the role of a lower caste person in the movie. Child actor Akshara Kishore also essays a major role.
Pengalila is primarily centred around two characters – Azhagan and Radhan, played by Lal and Akshara respectively. Azhagan is a daily worker who works at Radha’s home. The movie explores the heartwarming relationship between these two people. Azhagan’s past life and the solitary life of Radha’s mother is also discussed in the movie.
