Manju Warrier signed as the female lead in Dhanush’s Asuran

As reported by us earlier, Dhanush and director Vetrimaaran are joining hands once again, for a new movie titled ‘Asuran’. The movie which is reportedly based on the novel ‘Vekkai’ by Poomani is all set to start rolling from January 26. GV Prakash will be handling the music department. A massive announcement was made today by Dhanush through his social media handle. Leading Malayalam actress Manju Warrier has been signed as the female lead in ‘Asuran’. Dhanush has tweeted,

#asuran – update .. the evergreen Manju Warrier will be playing the female lead. Excited to share screen space and learn from this amazing talent.

Though Manju Warrier has been in the industry for nearly two decades, unlike other heroines, she has only acted in Malayalam movies. ‘Asuran’ marks her acting debut in Tamil and she could not have asked for a better team to start with. Earlier, Manju was also in talks with director Arivazhagan for a thriller flick but it didn’t materialize.

Dhanush and Vetrimaran form one of the most successful combos in Kollywood. They have collaborated for acclaimed films like ‘Polladhavan’, ‘Aadukalam’ and ‘Visaranai’. ‘Aadukalam’ alone won six awards at the National level. ‘Visaranai’, which was co-produced by Dhanush, apart from winning multiple National awards, was also India’s official submissions to the 89th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film.

Their recent outing ‘Vada Chennai’ was successful at the box office and won widespread critical acclaim. A three part saga
The first part of their three-part gangster saga was released last October. Around 20% of the second part has already been shot. Renaming works will be resumed once they finish ‘Asuran’.

Madhavan undergoes stunning transformation for Nambi Narayanan biopic

As we already know, R Madhavan is starring in the biopic of scientist Nambi Narayanan. The movie titled as ‘Rocketry – The Nambi Effect’ also marks Madhavan’s directorial debut. For the last few months, the actor has been in the process of putting on weight as they will be shooting his aged portions first. Recently, a set of new photos was shared on social medias and it is evident that he has undergone a stunning physical transformation for the movie.

Madhavan was recently spotted shooting for the movie with a long beard and hair, and he has a striking similarity to Nambi Narayanan. ‘Rocketry’, said to be one of the most challenging films in his career, will have him appearing in multiple looks. He was supposed to direct the film jointly with Anant Mahadevan but the latter opted out due to some unknown reasons.

Prajesh Sen, a journalist-turned-filmmaker from Kerala, who made his directorial debut with the Jayasurya starrer ‘Captain’, is part of ‘Rocketry’ team as the co-director. Prajesh had earlier made a documentary on Nambi Narayanan, which was noted widely.

Nambi Narayanan is a former cryogenic division head at the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). In 1994, he was falsely charged with espionage and arrested. The charges against him were later dismissed by the CBI and the Supreme Court declared him not guilty. Last September, the apex court awarded him Rs 50 lakh compensation for being subjected to mental and physical torture in the case.

‘Rocketry’, the movie, is based on Nambi Narayanan’s book ‘Ready to fire: How India and I survived the ISRO spy case’, which details about the controversial case and his infamous arrest. It has been planned as a multilingual in three languages – Tamil, English and Hindi.

The eagerly awaited Prithviraj starrer 9 is gearing up to hit screens next month. The movie directed by Jenuse Mohamed is touted to be a first of its kind science-fiction attempt in Malayalam cinema. The trailer and promos have been highly promising. While there are several rumours about the movie’s exact genre, lead actor Prithviraj believes that it has elements of horror, psychological thriller and science fiction. But the real take away, according to him, would be the father-son bond. 9 has child actor Alok in a major role as Prithviraj’s son.

9 is special for Prithviraj for many reasons. He is venturing to production with this movie. His newly launched banner Prithviraj Productions is producing the movie jointly with Sony Pictures International Productions. He is said to be playing the role of a scientist in the movie. The cast also includes Prakash Raj, Mamta Mohandas, Wamiqa Gabbi, Tony Luke, Rahul Madhav and Adil Ibrahim.

9 is scheduled for a grand release on February 7.

South Indian cinema’s current favourite Keerthy Suresh is returning back to her home turf, Malayalam industry, after five long years. After making her debut as lead actress in 2013 with Priyadarshan’s Geethanjali, Keerthy soon established herself as one of the top heroines of the South. Her last Malayalam film was the Dileep starrer ‘Ring Master’. For her comeback film, the actress is reuniting with the same team with whom she started her career.

Keerthy joined the sets of ‘Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham’ last day. She shared a photo from the movie’s sets in her official social media handle. Along with that, she has also written,

“Couldn’t be happier to kickstart shooting in 2019 with my very first team. Feels like home.”

Marakkar – Arabikadalinte Simham is an epic period flick directed by Priyadarshan. Superstar Mohanlal plays the lead role in the movie. As per trustworthy reports, Keerthy Suresh has been cast in a prominent role. She will be seen romancing a Chinese actor in the movie. Marakkar also has a host of other stars like Pranav Mohanlal, Prabhu, Arjun Sarja, Mukesh, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Manju Warrier and Suneil Shetty.

Nivin Pauly’s ‘Mikhael’ continues to do good business The movie directed by Haneef Adeni got mixed reviews from critics but common audience response has been encouraging. Expectations around the movie were huge courtesy the right pre-release promos. The makers have now released a new song from the movie. The song titled ‘Novinte Kayal’ is rendered by Sithara Krishna Kumar and composed by Gopi Sunder.

‘Mikhael’ is a family oriented drama cum thriller. Nivin Pauly plays the role of a doctor in the movie. Unni Mukundan essays the villain character named Marco Jr. Like Haneef Adeni’s directorial debut, ‘The Great Father’, ‘Mikhael’ is also a stylishly shot mass entertainer.

The movie also has an elaborate supporting cast comprising of Siddique, Sudev Nair, Manjima Mohan, JD Chakravarthy, Ashokan, Shanthi Krishna, Kalabhavan Shajon, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Baiju and KPAC Lalitha. Shoot wrapped up for Mohanlal’s Lucifer

After almost six months of being on the floors, shoot for Mohanlal’s Lucifer has finally been wrapped up. The final schedule was completed last day in Lakshadweep. Director Prithviraj and team had earlier shot in several locations across Kerala, Bangalore, Mumbai and Russia. Meanwhile, post-production works are progressing in full swing as the movie has been scheduled for a summer release, by the end of March.

Starring Mohanlal in the lead, Lucifer is a political thriller scripted by Murali Gopy. The movie also has Indrajith Sukumaran, Vivek Oberoi, Tovino Thomas and Manju Warrier playing other major roles. Its elaborate supporting cast comprises of ‘Queen’ fame Saniya Iyappan, Nandu, Kalabhavan Shajon, Sai Kumar, John Vijay, director Fazil, Sunil Sughatha, Thara Kalyan, Praveena Thomas and Maala Parvathy.

Lucifer is produced by Mohanlal’s home banner Aashirvad Cinemas. In the technical crew, Sujith Vaassudev cranks the camera and Deepak Dev handles the music department.

Suriya sports yet another look for Kaappaan

Shoot has resumed for ‘Kaappaan’, Suriya’s next with director KV Anand. The actor was recently spotted in a new avatar with a stylish handlebar moustache. The movie has Suriya appearing in multiple looks. During the first few schedules, the actor had appeared in a variety of getups. The movie also starring Mohanlal, Arya and Sayyeshaa is touted to be a big-scale action thriller.

‘Kaappaan’ has Mohanlal playing the Indian Prime Minister’s role while Suriya will be seen as a high-rank National Security Guard (NSG) officer, who is in charge of the PM’s security. Mohanlal and Suriya had shot together for their combination scenes in London, Chennai and in several locations in North India. The makers have planned to shoot the movie in over ten different countries.

‘Kaappaan’ also has Boman Irani, Samuthirakani and Prem Kumar are also part of the cast. The movie has cinematography by MS Prabhu and music by Harris Jayaraj handles the music department. Lyca Productions is producing this big budget movie. It is expected to hit screens in the second half of the year.

Thalapathy 63: Vijay’s next with Atlee launched

After the blockbuster success of Theri and Mersal, Vijay is reuniting with director Atlee for his next. Thalapathy 63 (working title) was launched today with a customary pooja ceremony. Shoot is expected to commence from tomorrow. AGS Entertainment is producing the movie, which is yet to be titled. The movie is scheduled for a grand Diwali release in October.

Unlike Vijay-Atlee team’s earlier films, Thalapathy 63 will be a sports drama, something that the actor has not done before in his career. He is reportedly playing the role of a coach in the movie. Nayanthara has been signed as the female lead. Kathir, who is fresh from the superhit success of ‘Pariyerum Perumal’, has also been roped in to play an important role. Vivek and Yogi Babu are also confirmed in the cast.

On the technical front, music department will be handled by maestro AR Rahman and cinematography by GK Vishnu. Editor Antony Ruben, lyricist Vivek and action choreographer Anal Arasu are also on board.

The character introduction poster of Asif Ali in ‘Uyare’ has been released in social medias. The movie starring Asif, Parvathy and Tovino Thomas in major roles is directed by debutant Manu Ashokan, a former associate of late Rajesh Pillai. National award winners Bobby and Sanjay have scripted the movie based on some real-life incidents.

Uyare has Parvathy playing Pallavi, an air hostess, who later becomes an acid attack victim. Asif reportedly plays her lover in the movie. The actress will be undergoing a completely new makeover, for which a special prosthetics team have been roped in. Prior to the shoot, Parvathy had also visited the Sheroes cafe in Agra to learn more about the lives of acid attack victims. The cafe is run by a group of women who survived acid attacks.
