Here's the first look of Kamal Haasan's Indian 2

The much-hyped Kamal Haasan starrer ‘Indian 2’ is all set to go on floors. Taking everyone by surprise, director Shankar took to his official social media handle last day to release the first look. The poster gives a glimpse of Kamal Haasan’s Senapathi look and his hugely famous ‘varma kalai’. Along with the poster, the makers have also informed that the shoot will be commencing on January 18.

‘Indian 2’ is the sequel to the 1996 classic hit ‘Indian’. The movie will have Kamal Haasan reprising his role of Senapathi, a freedom fighter-turned-vigilante. Kajal Agarwal has been signed as the female lead. She has a prominent character in the movie and has already started training in Kalaripayattu. Nedumudi Venu will also be reprising his investigating officer’s look from the first part.

Shankar has scripted Indian 2 and dialogues are penned by Jeyamohan, Kabilan Vairmuthu and Lakshmi Saravanakumar. Others in the technical crew include music director Anirudh Ravichander, cinematographer Ravi Varman, editor Sreekar Prasad and production designer Muthuraj. Lyca Productions is producing the movie.

Suriya gifts gold coins to NGK crew members

As reported by us recently, the shoot for Suriya’s highly anticipated film NGK has been wrapped up. The movie directed by Selvaraghavan is produced by SR Prabhu of Dream Warrior Pictures. Reportedly, Suriya has gifted gold coins to all the crew members of NGK. He gifted one sovereign Gold coins to 120 technicians, which involves each and everyone who worked in the film – from topmost chief technicians to lightmen, drivers, security staff, production staff and assistants. It is indeed a nice gesture by the actor to honour his co-workers.

NGK had been on the floors for over a year. The movie was initially planned as a Diwali release but shoot got delayed due to multiple reasons. Touted to be a political thriller, the movie has Suriya playing the role of an MLA. It has two female leads in Rakul Preet Singh and Sai Pallavi. Telugu actor Jagapathi Babu plays the villain.

The movie’s core technical crew comprises of music director Yuvan Shankar Raja, cinematographer Arvind Krishna and editor Prasanna GK. If things turn out as per planned, NGK will hit screens worldwide for Tamil New Year, which falls in April.

Ace filmmaker Lenin Rajendran passes away

Malayalam filmmaker and screenwriter Lenin Rajendran passed away at Chennai Apollo Hospitals on Monday. Aged 67, he was undergoing treatment after a liver transplant surgery at the hospital. His mortal remains is likely to be brought to his native place in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday.

Lenin Rajendran was part of the new wave in the Malayalam film industry during the 80s. Some of his most acclaimed films include Venal, Chillu, Meenamasathile Sooryan, Swathi Thirunal and Rathrimazha. He is a five-time Kerala State Film Award winner and was also honoured with the International Film Critics Award for the best Malayalam film for his film, Makaramanju screened at the 2010 IFFK.

Lenin Rajendran, a staunch leftist, had also unsuccessfully contested Lok Sabha elections twice from Ottapalam seat. He was also the chairman of the Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC). Several eminent personalities within the film industry and politicians condoled his passing away.

Mammootty’s Peranbu finally gets a release rate

After a wait that lasted almost for two long years Mammootty starrer Peranbu is finally ready for its theatrical release. The makers have announced that the movie will be hitting screens worldwide on February 1. Already the distribution rights for all the areas have been sold. The Kerala distribution rights has been bagged by Anto Joseph Film Company. In Tamil Nadu, the rights was acquired by Light Weight Films. Rest of India distribution will be handled by Nandini Entertainments while in GCC region, the rights are with World Wide Films

Peranbu grabbed attention after the unanimously positive response it got from various international film festivals. The movie was screened at Rotterdam international film festival (IFFR) and Shanghai festival. Its Indian premiere was recently held at the International Film Festival of India, Goa (IFFI).

Written and directed by Ram, Peranbu tells the story of a doting father and his mentally challenged girl child. Mammootty and ‘Thanga Meengal’ fame Sadhana play the lead roles. The movie also stars Anjali, Samuthirakani, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Anjali Ameer in major roles. It has music composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja and cinematography by Theni Easwar. The movie is produced by PL Thennappan under the banner of Sri Rajalakshmi Films.

Thala Ajith starrer Viswasam has got off to an excellent opening in the box office. Ever since its release on Thursday, the movie has been getting largely positive response with both critics and common audience lapping it up. Moothon teaser release date announced

As informed by us earlier, the teaser of Nivin Pauly starrer Moothon starring Nivin Pauly is on its way. Last day, the actor announced that the teaser will be out online on January 17. The movie directed by Geetu Mohandas has high expectations as it has some of the leading technicians in Indian cinema. It is an ambitious big-scale film made as a bilingual in Malayalam and Hindi.

Moothon’s story penned by Geetu Mohandas had won the global filmmaking award in Sundance Film Festival 2016. It tells the story of a man called Mullakoya from Lakshadweep. The movie is centred around his journey to find his brother. ‘Moothon’ is actually an island slang for elder brother.

Ace Bollywood filmmaker Anurag Kashyap collaborated with Geetu in writing the movie’s Hindi dialogues.
The director’s husband Rajeev Ravi, also an acclaimed filmmaker, is the DOP and National award winner Ajithkumar is editing the movie. Govind Vasantha is handling the music department.

Moothon is produced jointly by Bollywood filmmaker Anand L Rai’s production house Colour Yellow Productions and Jar Pictures. Eros International will be presenting the movie.

Oru Yamandan Premakadha satellite rights bagged by Asianet

Dulquer Salmaan’s next release in Malayalam will be ‘Oru Yamandan Premakadha’, which is eyeing a Vishu release in April. The movie is currently in the final stages of shoot. Even before the completion of shoot, the movie’s satellite rights has been bagged by Asianet. Though the exact amount has not been disclosed, it is said to be a huge figure.

‘Oru Yamandan Premakadha’ is directed by BC Noufal and scripted by the superhit writer duo of Bibin George and Vishnu Unnikrishnan. Anto Joseph is producing the movie under his banner Anto Joseph Film Company. The movie is expected to be a complete commercial entertainer on the lines of the writer duo’s previous works, ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’ and ‘Kattappanayile Rithwik Roshan’.

According to the makers, Dulquer will be seen as a local Malayali chap in the movie. They have also assured that the audience can expect to see an unseen fun side of Dulquer in this movie. Nikhila Vimal and ‘Theevandi’ fame Samyuktha Menon play the two female leads. Subin Shahir, Salim Kumar, Hareesh Kanaran, Dharmajan Bolgatty, Bibin and Vishnu Unnikrishnan are also part of the supporting cast.

Aaveg is an inter-hostel fest conducted for the first years, by the first years, in the lush campus of NIT Tiruchirapalli. This year, in 2019, with “Channeling Fury” being the tagline, the hostels are ready to unleash their inner demons, they host the 6th edition of Aaveg from the 1st to the 3rd of February. Seeing crowds of over a thousand people and more than 5000 followers on various social media handles, Aaveg’s growth in the recent years has been exponential. Aaveg means impulse, which indicates the impetus that the fest has in the bonding of the students coming from various parts of the country, or rather, the world.

Aaveg has proven itself to be one of a kind, because though its participation is limited to the first years of the college alone, it has produced quite the turnout. The event has never failed to bring out the best in all sorts of talented students in the institution, and seeks out the competitive ones who are ready to take on a task to win it for their team. The students compete against those from other hostels, hence showing their spirit for the place they live in. There are five hostels in all for the first years, and to ensure fair play, fair rules and ensure an overall enjoyable tournament, teams of students work meticulously in organizing the events, writing content and designing posters for publicity and hype. The students have taken on Aaveg as the first main event in their college life, and feel that it is not just a fest; it is more of an emotion. The students get to learn new activities in the mass participation events, and get real-time experience with challenging rules and debacles. Aaveg prides itself on the all-round challenges that it poses to the students, ranging from sports events, cultural events, literary events, design contests and so much more, giving every individual a fair opportunity to express their talent and make the best out of it.

The opportunities that they open are bountiful, but not restricted to the students of the campus, but also to performers. Last year, a Chennai-based rock band, Spotlight, conducted a concert here at NIT Trichy, as part of Aaveg. This is just a glimpse into what the fest is capable of, and what the students aim to achieve.
