An International Local Story: Here’s the teaser of Harisree Ashokan’s directorial debut

As we had told you earlier, Harisree Ashokan is turning a filmmaker with a comedy entertainer titled ‘An International Local Story’. Last day, the movie’s teaser was released in social medias. Actor Dulquer Salmaan did the honors through his official social media handle. As expected, the teaser gives hints of a clean fun filled entertainer.

‘An International Local Story’ has a huge star cast comprising of both youngsters and seasoned actors. Rahul Madhav, Deepak Parambol, Dharmajan Bolgatty, Kalabhavan Shajon, Bijukuttan, Salim Kumar., Manoj K Jayan, Suresh Krishna, Nandu, Jaffer Idukki, Tini Tom, ‘Kuttanadan Marpapa’ fame Surabhi Santhosh, Biju Kuttan, Namitha, Kunchan and Baiju are part of the elaborate cast.

As the title ‘An International Local Story’ suggests, the movie promises to be a out and out fun entertainer. The movie is scripted jointly by Ranjith, Eben and Saneesh. Alby is the cinematographer and songs are by Gopi Sunder, Nadirshah and Arun Raj.

M Shijith and Shaheer Shan are jointly producing the movie under the banner of S Square Cinemas.

‘Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham’ shoot is currently progressing at Ramoji Rao Film City, Hyderabad. The makers have been releasing timely stills and location photos to keep the movie in the news. A couple of new stills of actor Arjun Sarja in a warrior attire is currently doing the rounds in social medias. Popularly known as ‘action king’, the actor is said to be playing a very crucial role in the movie. With his ripped physique, the actor looks convincing as a fierce warrior.

‘Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham’ directed by Priyadarshan has Mohanlal playing the fourth Kunjali Marakkar. His son Pranav is essaying the younger part of his character. Though the makers are yet to make an official announcement, trustworthy reports suggest that the movie’s also cast comprises of Suniel Shetty, Mukesh, Fazil, Keerthy Suresh, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Manju Warrier and Pooja Kumar. Pranav has already wrapped up her portions.

Touted as one of the most expensive movies ever made in Malayalam cinema, Marakkar is produced by Mohanlal’s Aashirvad Cinemas, Confident Group and Moonshot Entertainment are jointly producing the movie. Production designer Sabu Cyril, cinematographer Tirru, editor MS Ayyappan Nair and a Los Angeles-based VFX studio are part of the technical crew.

After being on floors for almost a year, NGK shoot has finally been wrapped up. Producer SR Prabhu of Dream Warrior Pictures was the first to inform about the completion of shoot. His tweet reads,

Happy to have wrapped the shoot of #NGK with @Suriya_offl na! Thanks to the whole team and advance #Pongal wishes to all @selvaraghavan

SR Prabhu’s tweet was followed by director Selvaraghavan’s. He seemed be amazed by the dedication that Suriya has shown for the film.

NGK is highly anticipated, both by Suriya fans and the common audience. The movie was initially planned as a Diwali release but shoot got delayed due to multiple reasons. NGK is a political thriller that has Suriya playing the role of an MLA. It has two female leads in Rakul Preet Singh and Sai Pallavi. Telugu actor Jagapathi Babu plays the villain. The movie’s technical crew comprises of music director Yuvan Shankar Raja, cinematographer Arvind Krishna and editor Prasanna GK.

If things turn out as per plans, NGK will hit screens worldwide for Tamil New Year in April.

Moothon teaser to be released along with Mikhael

Amidst huge expectations, the Nivin Pauly starrer ‘Mikhael’ is getting ready to hit screens this Friday (January 18). While fans are already excited about ‘Mikhael’, to make it a double treat, the teaser of ‘Moothon’ will be released along with it in theatres. ‘Moothon’ is another highly anticipated Nivin Pauly starrer. The movie has some big names from Indian cinema as part of its crew.

‘Moothon’ marks the maiden Malayalam directorial of actress-turned-filmmaker Geetu Mohandas. The movie’s story penned by her had won the global filmmaking award in Sundance Film Festival 2016. The story is about a man called Mullakoya from Lakshadweep who is on a journey to find his brother.

An ambitious big-scale film, Moothon is shaping up as a bilingual in Malayalam and Hindi. Ace Bollywood filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has collaborated with Geetu in writing the movie’s dialogues. The director’s husband and renowned cinematographer-turned-filmmaker Rajeev Ravi is the DOP and National award winner Ajithkumar is editing the movie. Govind Vasantha is handling the music department.

‘Moothon’ is jointly produced by Bollywood filmmaker Anand L Rai’s production house Colour Yellow Productions and Jar Pictures. Eros International will be presenting the movie. As per reports, the movie will be screened in a few international film festivals before its theatrical release.

Asif Ali starrer ‘Vijay Superum Pournamiyum’ (VSP) has opened to highly positive reviews from all corners. Hitting screens last day, the movie got unanimously positive response. Critics and common audience alike have rated the movie as a clean feel-good entertainer. If the early trend is anything to go by, the movie is most likely to emerge as the first hit of 2019. The feel-good factor had worked wonders for ‘Sunday Holiday’, Jis Joy’s last film with Asif Ali. VSP is also expected to have a similar long run with the help of family audience.

‘Vijay Superum Pournamiyum’ has Aishwarya Lekshmi paired with Asif. The movie discusses about how two individuals, coming from different backgrounds, struggle to make an identity of their own. While Asif plays an engineering drop out, Aishwarya plays a MBA graduate in the movie. Director Jis Joy has scripted the movie with prominence to humour, friendship, romance and family sentiments.

Along with the lead pair, the movie has an elaborate supporting cast comprising of Shanthi Krishna, Renji Panicker, Devan, Siddique, KPAC Lalitha, Balu Varghese, Dhanya Rajendran and Joseph Annamkutty Jose. AK Sunil is producing VSP under the banner of New Surya Films

Thalapathy 63: Kathir to play a major role in Vijay’s next!

Thalapathy 63, Vijay’s next with director Atlee is getting ready to go on floors. The movie has Nayanthara as the female lead and Vivek is also confirmed to be part of the cast. Latest buzz is that promising young actor Kathir, who is fresh from the success of ‘Pariyerum Perumal’, has been has been signed to play a major role in the movie. Details about his character in the movie are not yet known. An official confirmation in this regard is awaited.

Thalapathy 63 marks Vijay’s reunion with director Atlee after the blockbuster success of ‘Theri’ and ‘Mersal’. Unlike their earlier films, that were regular commercial entertainers, this upcoming film belongs to a genre that Vijay hasn’t attempted before. Touted to be a sports drama, the movie reportedly has Vijay playing the role of a coach.

On the technical front, Atlee has retained the core team from ‘Mersal’. Music department will be handled by maestro AR Rahman and cinematography by GK Vishnu. Editor Antony Ruben, lyricist Vivek and action choreographer Anal Arasu are also on board. AGS Entertainment is producing the movie. As per trustworthy reports, the movie will be officially launched with a special pooja on January 20. Shoot will be commencing the next day, from January 21. The makers are eyeing a grand Diwali release this year.

Confirmed: Arun Gopy to direct IM Vijayan biopic

Reports about a biopic on Indian footballer IM Vijayan has been doing the rounds for a long time now. Few months back, there were unconfirmed reports about director Arun Gopy planning to do a movie with a Nivin Pauly, but there were no further updates. The director, in a recent interview, has confirmed that he is indeed doing a biopic on IM Vijayan. When asked if Nivin would be playing the lead, Arun informed that the casting has not yet been finalized.

According to him, the movie was supposed to go on floors much earlier, but the release of ‘Captain’, forced the delay. ‘Captain’ was based on the life of late Indian footballer VP Sathyan. Apparently, Arun has completed the script works for the movie and has also zeroed in on the locations, but he is not sure about when shoot would be commencing.

IM Vijayan is unarguably one of the finest footballers that the country has ever produced. Popularly known as the ‘kala hiran’ or ‘black pearl of India’, Vijayan was crowned Indian Player of the Year in 1993, 1997 and 1999. Starting from a humble background as a soda seller in football grounds, Vijayan eventually became the highest earning Indian footballer of his time. His journey from rags to riches is a truly inspiring story and it deserves to be told on screen

While talks about his biopic are yet to settle down, Vijayan had also recently announced his new production company. His banner has been named as ‘Big Daddy Entertainment’. He had also confirmed that the first film to come from his production will be a football based one. It remains to be seen if Vijayan himself will be producing his biopic.

Arun Gopy meanwhile is awaiting the release of ‘Irupathiyonnam Noottandu’ starring Pranav Mohanlal. He has also committed for a film with Mohanlal, to be produced by Tomichan Mulakupadam, and another with K Madhu’s banner, Krishna Kripa.

25-day long fight schedule for Madura Raja

‘Madura Raja’ shoot has been progressing for the last few months. The movie is a spin-off on Mammootty’s eponymous character from the blockbuster film, ‘Pokkiri Raja’. Mammootty is reprising his role of the Madurai-based don, Raja. The movie marks the reunion of writer-director duo of Udhayakrishna and Vysakh after the blockbuster success of ‘Pulimurugan’.

Shoot for ‘Madura Raja’ is currently progressing in Cherai. As per reports, the makers have planned a 25-day long schedule for shooting an important fight sequence. Peter Hein is choreographing the stunts in the movie and this particular stunt involving Mammootty and Jagpathi Babu is said to be one of the movie’s major highlight.

According to director Vysakh, ‘Madura Raja’, will be more racy and technically advanced than the first part. The makers have also planned for a VFX-heavy climax. The movie has a huge star cast with Anusree, Shamna Kasim, Anna Reshma and Mahima Nambiar as the female leads. Tamil actor Jai is also playing a prominent role.

Nelson Ipe is producing the movie which is expected to hit screens in the second half of the year.

Marakkar: Arabikadlainte Simham shoot is currently underway at Ramoji Rao Film City, Hyderabad. Priyadarshan is directing this epic movie which is being on a huge scale with a star-studded cast and crew. Mohanlal plays the lead in the movie. The cast also includes his son Pranav, Priyadarshan’s daughter Kalyani, Arjun Sarja, Suneil Shetty, Keerthy Suresh, Fazil and some foreign actors.

Kalyani, who is making her Malayalam debut with Marakkar, has already finished her portions in the movie. And she could not have asked for a more prestigious project than Marakkar to mark her entry to Malayalam. After wrapping up her shoot, the pretty actress penned a sweet little note her social media handle sharing her first ever work experience with her father. Kalyani’s post reads,

Wrapped up my work for #marakkar. Two years ago I never imagined I’d be working with dad like this. From him shouting ‘ammu you’re not doing it right!’ when I was nervous on the first day to him shaking my hand saying ‘Superb. I don’t want to make a single cut in that shot’… I weirdly cherish everything. Love you acha. Can’t wait for the world to see your magnum opus. Glad I got to be a small part of it.

Priyadarshan replied back saying,

The TK Rajeev Kumar directorial ‘Pavithram’ is widely regarded as one of the classics in Malayalam cinema. The movie starring Mohanlal, Srividya, Thilakan and Shobhana was way ahead of its time. Scripted by P Balachandran, the movie discussed the issue of a middle-aged couple having a child much to the disappointment of their adult sons. Mohanlal’s splendid performance, rated as one of his finest ever, won him a Filmfare award for Best Actor.

If reports are to be believed, 25 years after its release, the movie is getting a Tamil version. The makers are considering to rope in either Dulquer Salmaan or Sivakarthikeyan to play the lead. It is worth a mention that the Ayushmann Khurrana starrer ‘Badhaai Ho’, one of the biggest blockbusters in Bollywood last year, was also loosely based on ‘Pavithram’.

The success of ‘Badhaai Ho’ has clearly been an inspiration for the Tamil remake. The makers firmly believe that the story still has relevance and will connect to the audience in today’s age as well. Along with the Tamil remake, a Telugu version is also on the cards. An official announcement is expected to be made shortly.
