Odiyan background score will be rocking: Shrikumar Menon

The much-awaited Mohanlal strarrer ‘Odiyan’ is currently in the final stages of post-production. The makers are working tirelessly to ensure a smooth release on December 14. Last day, director Shrikumar Menon took to his social media handle to share couple of photos taken with composer Sam CS from one of their sessions. The director who seems to be highly impressed by the background score tweeted,

Sam CS shot to fame with his stellar work in the Pushkar-Gayatri directorial ‘Vikram Vedha’. For ‘Odiyan’ score, he has used ancient some ethnic Kerala musical instruments. The ‘Odi.. Odi.. Odiyan’ score used in the trailer has already become a rage among the fans. Since the movie is set in three different timelines, the composer had the scope to experiment. The movie is a mass-fantasy entertainer with a mix of action, romance and magical realism.

‘Odiyan’, scripted by National award winner Harikrishnan is primarily about odividya, a kind of black magic. People who practice it are called odiyans. They lived in mediveal Kerala and this movie is set in different timelines from pre-electricty days in the 1950s to 2000. Prakash Raj, Manju Warrier, Naren, Kailas, Sana Althaf and Manoj Joshi play the other major roles.

Antony Perumbavoor is producing the movie under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas. The makers are working towards a grand release in December. As the pre-release hype is massive, ‘Odiyan’ is most likely to have the biggest ever release for a Malayalam movie.

Director Siva, who is known for his continuous collaboration with Thala Ajith, is finally set to join hands with another star. As per reports from trustworthy sources, his next movie will be with Sivakarthikeyan. Production giant Sun Pictures will be funding the movie. They are already backing a couple of big projects like Vijay’s ‘Sarkar’ and Rajinikanth’s ‘Petta’. The official announcement of Sivakarthikeyan-Siva movie will be made very shortly.

Director Siva is currently busy with the shoot of Ajith starrer ‘Viswasam’, which is nearing its final stages. The movie is slated to hit screens for Pongal in January. Touted to be a complete commercial mass entertainer, the movie has Ajith in a dual role. Nayanthara plays the female lead and music is composed by D Imman. Siva’s last film with Ajith, ‘Vivegam’ failed to click, so he will be trying to hit the success mark this time.

Sivakarthikeyan meanwhile is working on director Rajesh’s upcoming rom-com entertainer that also has Nayanthara playing the female lead. The ‘Remo’ actor also has also finished a couple of schedules for his sci-film with ‘Indru Netru Naalai’ fame Ravi Kumar. He has also committed for an action thriller with ‘Irumbuthirai’ director PS Mithran.

The long wait for Vijay’s Sarkar is coming to an end this Tuesday (November 6) As the release date is nearing, the makers have been doing aggressive promotions, both through TV channels and the social media space. A new promo video has been released today. Apart from releasing it online, it is also being telecast in Sun Network channels, which will help in attracting the family audience. The movie is being produced by Kalanithi Maran’s Sun Pictures.

Sarkar, written and director by AR Murugadoss is publicized as a political thriller. The movie has been made based on on the recent political events in Tamil Nadu. It has Vijay playing a multi millionaire businessman, who is forced to land in politics due to circumstances. How he initiates a public uprising forms the crux of the movie.

Mohanlal’s Drama is all set for release tomorrow (November 1). As per reports, the makers are eyeing to release the movie in over 250 screens across Kerala. As last minute promotions, the makers have released a new teaser in social medias. Drama directed by Ranjith is an out and out fun entertainer. After a long gap, Mohanlal is playing a humor role and fans are highly excited about it.

Mohanlal and director Ranjith have pinned high hopes on Drama. It is in stark contrast to the mass entertainers that they have teamed up for before. The movie set entirely in the UK revolves around a middle-aged couple. Mohanlal plays the role of Rajasekharan aka Raju while Asha Sarath will be seen as his wife Rekha. Yatra director Mahi Raghav is all praise for Mammootty!

As we already know, Mammootty is playing the lead in the biopic of late Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YSR. The movie titled as Yatra is being directed by Mahi V Raghav. Mammootty has wrapped up his portions for the movie. The director took to his social media handle to pen down a long note thanking Mammootty for being a part of the movie. Recently, a few Telugu medias had reported alleged that Mammootty was egoistic on the sets of ‘Yatra’ as he did not want any other star actor in the movie.

However, director Mahi Raghav with his note has dismissed these reports as completely baseless. He has written,

“Its the end of our Yatra with Mammootty….

390+ movies, 3 national awards and worked with 60+ debutant directors. More than these , he is a great mentor and a wonderful human being.

He has nothing to prove. He can simply walk away into the sunset and still remain a legend.

It is our tradition and culture to respect our guest. Sure, you can criticise him and tear him apart if he has failed as an actor or has not lived up to your expectation. As a critic and audience, you are entitled to it.

But here is an actor who
– listened to the script in telugu
– Learnt the meaning of every word,
– wrote every single word in his language and delivered the lines on the set superbly.

Here is an actor who dubbed and re-dubbed every line to make it as authentic it can be. He is so much in love with our language, culture and films and has nothing but admiration for it.

I Couldn’t have asked for more! With my hand on my heart, I can say that no other actor could have made this character and script as alive as he did.

He is still regarded as a people’s leader and respected all over. ‘Yatra’ team is hoping to make the movie as a fitting tribute to the iconic leader. Unlike the regular biopics, ‘Yatra’ is an event based film. It primarily focuses on the time during YSR’s famous three-month-long padayatra in 2003, which was a changing point in his political career.

Apart from Mammootty, the movie also stars Rao Ramesh, Anasuya Bharadwaj, Suhasini Mani Ratnam, Sachin Khedekar, Posani Krishna Murali and Vinod Kumar. Vijay Chilla and Shashi Devi Reddy are jointly producing the movie under their banner of 70MM Entertainments. It is slated for a grand worldwide release on December 21.

Six Malayalam films selected for screening at 49th IFFI

The 49th edition of International Film Festival of India (IFFI) is scheduled to held from November 20th to 28th in Goa. The organizers have released the list of Indian Panorama films for the year. Six Malayalam films will be screened at the festival this year.

Shaji N Karun’s ‘Oolu’ will be the opening film at the festival. Abrid Shine’s ‘Poomaram’, Zakariya Mohammed’s ‘Sudani From Nigeria’, Jayaraj’s ‘Bhayanakam’, Lijo Jose Pellissery’s ‘Ee Maa Yau’ and Raheem Khader’s ‘Makkana’ are the other Malayalam films. From Tamil cinema, Mammootty starrer ‘Peranbu’, ‘Pariyerum Perumal, ‘Tolet’ and ‘Baaram’ have been selected.

The feature film Jury of thirteen members was headed by acclaimed film director and screenwriter Rahul Rawail. Major Ravi, Ahathian, Ujjwal Chatterjee, Imo Singh, Utpal Datta, Sekhar Das, Mahendra Teredesai, Haidar Ali, KG Suresh, Chandra Siddarth, Adeep Tandon and S Viswanath were the other members in the 13 member jury.

In the non-feature category, there Malayalam films were selected – Shiny Jacob Benjamin’s ‘Sword of Liberty’, Remy Raj’s ‘Midnight Run’ and ‘Vinod Mankara’s ‘Lasyam’. In the IFFI’s mainstream category, ‘Mahanati’, ‘Padmaavat’, ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’ and ‘Raazi’ have been selected for screening.

It is already known that Malayali actor Tovino Thomas is playing the villain in Dhanush’s ‘Maari 2’. The movie directed by Balaji Mohan is the sequel of Dhanush’s 2015 film ‘Maari’. As the movie gears up for release, Tovino has finished dubbing his portions in the movie. The actor informed the same by sharing a photo taken with Balaji Mohan from the dubbing suite in his social media handle. He has written,

When it was first announced, Tovino’s casting came as a big surprise. Although he has played negative roles in films like ‘ABCD’ and ‘Style’, this will be his first full-fledged villain role after establishing himself as a star. Director Balaji Mohan had clear plans while roping in Tovino for the movie.

Eventhough the first part, ‘Maari’ was not a big hit, it had a wide reach. So the director collected feedback on what went wrong in the movie. While scripting, he took all that into consideration, and first designed the antagonist. The script was later developed from the villain’s role. As it shaped up, the role demanded an intense actor and that’s how they signed Tovino. According to the makers, it is a very powerful role and cinephiles are eagerly waiting to see the face-off between Dhanush and Tovino.

‘Maari 2’ also stars Sai Pallavi, Varalakshmi Sarath Kumar and Krishna in major roles. First look poster of the movie will be unveiled on November 2 and the release date is excepted to be announced shortly.

Vishnu Vishal’s recently released psycho-thriller Ratsasan is the current talk of the town. The movie has got unanimously positive reviews and has been declared a superhit at the box office. Directed by Ram Kumar of ‘Mundasupatti’ fame, the movie is an investigative thriller that has Vishnu in the role of a newly joined Sub-inspector. One of the major highlights of the movie is the psycho killer’s character.

Unlike the typical ‘villain’ pyscho characters that have appeared in Tamil cinema previously, or perhaps in Indian cinema, the one in Ratsasan has a lot of peculiarities. The character has a strong backstory and it is physically very demanding to play that part. The makers had kept the identity of the actor who played the role as a secret all this while. Last day, a press meet was held in Chennai where the actor was introduced to the medias.

Saravanan, a debutant, played the role of Christopher. Speaking at the event, he explained about the efforts he had put in to play the character. Apparently, he survived on liquid diet all through the movie’s shoot and suffered from ill health. He also got emotional while talking about how many other deserving actors are struggling to get a platform like this, in such a big film.

Ratsasan continues to do well at all the centres courtesy the highly positive word of mouth. In states like Kerala and Karnataka, the screen count has been increased after the good response from the audience.

As we had reported earlier, R Madhavan is starring in the biopic of scientist Nambi Narayanan. The movie has been titled as ‘Rocketry – The Nambi Effect’. Official teaser of the movie was released online today. Top stars like Aamir Khan, Suriya and many others shared the teaser un their respective social media handle. Madhavan is making his directorial debut by co-directing the movie with Anant Mahadevan. The movie has been planned as a multilingual in three languages – Tamil, English and Hindi.

Nambi Narayanan is a former cryogenic division head at the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). In 1994, he was falsely charged with espionage and arrested. He had to spend 50 days in the prison. The charges against him were later dismissed by the CBI in 1996, and the Supreme Court declared him not guilty in 1998. In September this year, the apex court awarded Nambi Narayanan Rs 50 lakh compensation for being subjected to mental and physical torture in the case.

Madhavan will be playing Nambi Narayanan’s role in the movie and he will be appearing in multiple looks in the movie. It is easily one of the most challenging roles in the actor’s career. The movie is based on Nambi Narayanan’s book ‘Ready to fire: How India and I survived the ISRO spy case’, which details about the controversial case and his infamous arrest.
