Bigg Boss winner Sabumon bag roles in Vijay Babu’s and Lijo Jose Pellissery’s upcoming films

The inaugural edition of Bigg Boss Malayalam concluded last day with a grand finale. Sabumon Abdusamad, unarguably the most popular contestant in the show, won the title. The finale was a grand affair with comedy skits, dance programs. The show’s superstar host Mohanlal also joined the party by singing a few lovely songs. A big surprise element was the arrival of ace filmmaker Lijo Jose Pellissery and producer Vijay Babu.

They were in the show to announce that Sabumon has been cast in prominent roles in two of their upcoming films. While details about Vijay Babu’s film was not revealed, Sabu has been offered a major role in Lijo Jose Pellissery’s upcoming film, Jallikattu. The movie supposedly has Antony Varghese and Vinayakan in the lead roles.

Lijo has previously worked with Sabu in his gangster comedy film, Double Barrel. The latter has also played notable roles in films like Fireman, Adi Kapayre Koottmani and Darwinte Parinamam. With the massive popularity that he enjoys after the Bigg Boss show, Sabumon is expected to be flooded with movie offers.

Sunny Wayne and Ahaana Krishna team up for ‘Pidikittapulli’

Sunny Wayne and Ahaana Krishna are coming together for the first time for a movie titled ‘Pidikittapulli’. The movie, which said to be a crime comedy thriller, marks the directorial debut of Jishnu Sreekandan. Sumesh V Robert is scripting the movie. The team had a customary switch on and pooja ceremony last day. Gokulam Gopalan of Sri Gokulam Films is producing the movie.

‘Pidikittapulli’ has Sunny Wayne playing the role of an architect. Baiju, Lalu Alex, Saiju Kurup and Mareena Michael are also part of the supporting cast. The movie has a young set of technicians. Debutant Anjoy Samuel is wielding the camera and Bipin Paul Samuel will be handling the edits. PS Jayahari is the music director and Sreekumar is in charge of the art department. Shoot for the movie will kick-start in Kollam on Wednesday.

Sunny Wayne meanwhile has two films set for release this month – Kayamkulam Kochunni and French Viplavam. In the Rosshan Andrrews directorial, he is playing a very prominent role alongside Nivin Pauly and Mohanlal. In French Viplavam, he plays the role of a chef. The movie directed by debutant Maju is a fun entertainer with a period backdrop, set in the 90s. While Kayamkulam Kochunni is slated for release on October 11, French Viplavam is scheduled on October 26.

Veteran filmmaker Thampi Kannanthanam passes away

Malayalam film director Thampi Kannanthanam passed away on Tuesday afternoon. He was on ventilator support for the past two days in Aster Medicity, Kochi. Thampi Kannanthanamn (65) was a director, script writer and a noted producer. To his credit, he has directed 16 films, produced 5 films and scripted 3 films.

He debuted as a filmmaker in 1983 with the film ‘Thavalam’. He was most active in the Malayalam film industry during the period 1980-90. His most popular films include Rajavinte Makan,Vazhiyorakazchakal, Bhoomiyile Rajakkanmar, Indrajaalam, Naadody, Chukkan, and Maanthrikam..

Thambi Kannanthanam was very instrumental in the growth of Mohanlal as a star. His movie Rajavinte Makan had Mohanlal playing the role of underworld don Vincent Gomez. The massive success of the film earned Mohanlal the superstar tag. They have also collaborated for other films like Onnaman, Maanthrikan, Bhoomiyile Rajakkanmar, Indrajaalam and Vazhiyorakazchakal.

Thambi Kannanthanam’s passing away leaves be a huge void in the Malayalam film industry. Several filmmakers and actors have come forward expressing their grief in the veteran’s death.

Tovino Thomas starts working out for his cop-action film ‘Kalki’

It was recently announced that Tovino would be playing a cop in a new movie titled ‘Kalki’. Debutant Praveen Prabharam is directing this movie, which is touted to be a complete mass entertainer. Though Tovino has acted as a policeman in ‘Ezra’ and ‘Tharangam’, ‘Kalki’ will be his first attempt in playing a full fledged cop role. The actor has already started working out for his role. A few videos of him sweating hard in the gym is currently doing the rounds in social medias.

According to the makers, ‘Kalki’ will be Tovino’s first real mass action entertainer. His character in the movie is on the lines of Mammootty’s iconic Inspector Balram, who was a brash and forthright police officer. So, the audience can expect to see Tovino in a rough and tough character in ‘Kalki’. Praveen Prabharam has scripted the movie jointly with Sujin Sujathan.

Kalki’s technical crew includes Gautham Sankar, who cranked the camera in ‘Theevandi’, and editor Renjith Kuzhur. Suvin K Krishna and Prasobh Krishna are producing the movie under the banner of Little Big Films. More details regarding the other cast members and when the movie goes on floors are expected to be announced shortly.

Tovino meanwhile is also shooting for Salim Ahamed’s ‘And The Oscar Goes To’. He also has ‘Luca’ with debutant Arun Bose and an untitled travel film with director Jeo Baby. The actor’s next to hit screens will be Madhupal’s ‘Oru Kuprasidha Payyan’.

Grand audio launch of Sarkar to be held today!

One the biggest events of Kollywood this year – the audio launch of Sarkar will be held today in a private college in Chennai. The makers are planning a grand affair with several big names from the industry expected to attend the event. Vijay fans, as always, are all excited to see their matinee idol in real. Vijay’s inspiring speeches are hugely famous and he is expected to deliver one today as well.

There is also a buzz that AR Rahman will be performing the songs live in the event. Last time for Mersal’s audio launch, the Academy award winner had performed all the songs in front of a live audience. Generally, audio launch events are recorded and telecast at a later date, but for Sarkar, Sun TV will be telecasting the program live.

Sarkar is a political thriller that reportedly has Vijay playing a multi-millionaire techie. Circumstances force him to enter politics and that forms the movie’s crux. This AR Murugadoss directorial has massive expectations as Vijay’s previous two outings (Thupakki and Kaththi) with the director were hugely successful.

Keerthy Suresh is paired with Vijay while Varalaxmi Sarath Kumar is also there in a important character. Pala Karuppaiah, Radha Ravi, Livingston, Yogi Babu, Prem and many others are part of the supporting cast. The movie is scheduled to hit screens worldwide for Deepavali, on November 6.

Cinephiles across the country are eagerly looking forward to Shankar’s magnum opus 2.0. The movie is slated for a grand worldwide release on November 29. The makers have released a new sneak-peak video that shows the efforts that went behind the making of this ambitious sci-fi flick. Over 3000 technicians from across the world have worked in this movie.

2.0 is the continuation of Shankar-Rajinikanth team’s blockbuster film Enthiran, but it is not exactly a sequel. The new film is much bigger in terms of scale and production values. The makers claim to have invested a whopping 75 Million Dollar (Rs 541 Crore) in the movie, which easily makes it the most expensive film ever made in Indian cinema.

2.0 is said to be the first Indian movie to be shot entirely in 3D format. The makers had brought together many leading technicians from both India and overseas to get the best possible output. Academy Award winners AR Rahman and Resul Pookkutty handled the music and sound department respectively. Nirva Shah has cranked the camera. National award winner Srinivas Mohan has supervised the VFX works.

The making videos shows glimpses of the extraordinary VFX works that have gone into the movie’s making. VFX and animatronic works in the movie are handled by companies from more than ten different countries. Leading firms like Legacy Effects, Tau Films, Quantum FX and Double Negative are all involved in the process.

The movie’s teaser, which was released earlier this month, had some.unbelievable visuals and effects. It is certain that 2.0 will be a visual extravaganza, something never-before-seen in Indian cinema. 2.0 marks the coming together of two of Indian cinema’s biggest superstars, Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar, for the first time. While Rajinikanth will be seen in a dual role as a scientist and robot, Akshay Kumar plays the antagonist. Amy Jackson is the female lead.

Lyca Productions is funding this mega budget movie.

Ever since the release of Baahubali, filmmakers across India are behind epic period flicks and the Kangana Ranaut starrer Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi is also one such film. It is an epic biopic based on the life of Rani Laxmibai of Jhansi. The movie is directed by Krish and scripted by KV Vijayendra Prasad, the writer of ‘Baahubali’ series.

Official teaser of the movie was released today in social medias. The teaser begins with a voice over by Amitabh Bachchan as he explains about how India was a successful nation till the Brtish invsion. Manikarnika, the queen of Jhansi decided to fight for her motherland. Kangana looks fierce as the sword wielding warrior in the teaser.

The two-time National award winning actress has put in lot of efforts to play the character of Rani Laxmi Bhai. She had underwent training in horse riding, sword fighting and basic martial arts. She even suffered a a cut on her forehead during a sword-fighting scene, which got her 15 stitches. Reportedly, Kangana refused to get it fixed by cosmetic surgery and flaunted it as it in the film.

Manikarnika stars TV actress Ankita Lokhande as Jhalkaribai. The movie has Atul Kulkarni as Tatya Tope, Suresh Oberoi in the role of Peshwa Bajirao and Jisshu Sengupta will essay the character of Gangadhar Rao. Jishu Sengupta, Danny Denzongappa, Zeeshan Ayub and many others are also part of the supporting cast.

Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi is scheduled to hit screens worldwide on 25th Jan 2019, a day before the Republic Day.

Violinist Balabhaskar passes away

Popular violinist Balabhaskar, who was critical for over a week after meeting with an accident, has passed away. He breathed his last in the wee hours of Tuesday. He was 40. Balabhaskar’s two-year-old daughter Tejaswini had died soon after the accident. According to reports, his wife, Lakshmi has still not regained consciousness.

The accident occurred on September 25 near Pallipuram when the family was travelling back from Thrissur where they had visited the Vadakkum Nathan temple. Balabhaskar suffered severe head and spine injuries following the accident. Despite multiple surgeries, he had sustained multiple organ failure and was kept on ventilator. Lakshmi too had sustained multiple fractures in different parts of the body and was on ventilator, but is recovering. Their driver Arjun is also under treatment.

Balabhaskar’s death has saddened thousands of his fans across Kerala. Celebrities like Mohanlal, Dulquer Salmaan, Prithviraj, Asif Ali, Vineeth Sreenivasan expressed their grief in the passing away of the incredibly talented musician. His mortal remains will be kept for the public to pay their last respects. The last rites would take place on Wednesday at his ancestral house in Thirumala, Thiruvananthapuram.

Soubin unveils the first look of Vishnu Unnikrishnan’s Nithyaharitha Nayakan

Debutant AR Binuraj is directing a movie titled ‘Nithyaharitha Nayakan’ with Vishnu Unnikrishnan in the lead. The first look poster of the movie was unveiled today through Soubin Shahir’s official Facebook page. The movie marks the maiden production venture of actor Dharmajan Bolgatty. Dharmajan is jointly funding the movie with Manu Thachett of Aditya Creations.

Nithyaharitha Nayakan was the title given to legendary actor Prem Nazir. The movie’s first look poster features Vishnu Unnikrishnan in a get up that resembles the late actor. Along with Vishnu, the movie also has Dharmajan in a major role. This is the third film from this combo after the superhit Kattappanayile Rithwik Roshan and Vikadakumaran.

Nithyaharitha Nayakan promises to be an out and out fun entertainer. The movie is scripted by newcomer Ranjin Raj. Actors like Indrans, Manju Pillai, Kochu Preman and Jaffer Idukki will be seen playing supporting roles in the film. Details regarding when the movie hits screens is expected to be officially announced shortly.

As we had reported earlier, Santosh Sivan is all set to make his comeback to Malayalam industry as a director. His new movie titled ‘Jack and Jill’ has Kalidas Jayaram and Manju Warrier in the lead roles. The movie is said to be a thriller and the makers are planning it as a multilingual. Besides Malayalam, the movie will also have a Tamil version. Shoot is set to commence from October 20 in Alappuzha. A Dubai based company, Lensman Studios, is producing the movie.

‘Jack and Jill’ also has seasoned actors like Nedumudi Venu, Aju Varghese, Soubin Shahir, Ramesh Pisharody and Suraj Venjaramoodu as part of its cast. The movie’s technical crew includes music director Gopi Sunder, lyricist BK Harinarayanan and production controller Alex. It remains to be seen if Santosh himself will be wielding the camera.

Reportedly, some other technicians from Bollywood and overseas will be associated with the movie. Apart from the various locations in Kerala, the movie will also have a brief schedule in London.
