Vada Chennai to be premiered at Pingyao Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon International Film Festival

Dhanush starrer ‘Vada Chennai’ is easily among the most hyped Tamil films in recent years. The movie marks his reunion with multiple National award winner Vetrimaran. Dhanush’s own banner Wunderbar Films is funding the movie jointly with Lyca Productions. As informed earlier, the movie is all set to have its Indian theatrical release on October 17.

Before that, ‘Vada Chennai’ will be having its world premiere in the Gala section at the second Pingyao Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon International Film Festival (PYIFF). The second edition of PYIFF will be held in the United Nations heritage town of Pingyao in Shanxi province of China from October 11 to 20.

Vetrimaran is a four-time National award winning filmmaker. He has previously worked with Dhanush in ‘Polladhavan’ and ‘Aadukalam’. Both the films were widely acclaimed with ‘Aadukalam’ alone bagging six awards at the National level, which included two for Vetrimaran (best director and best scriptwriter) and best actor for Dhanush. Going by their track record, expectations are massive for ‘Vada Chennai’.

‘Vada Chennai’ is an epic gangster saga that spans different timelines. The makers have planned it as a trilogy, with the first part releasing on 17th. Along with Dhanush, the movie also has a host of other talented actors like Andrea Jeremiah, Aishwarya Rajesh, Samuthirakani, Ameer, Daniel Balaji Kishore, Karunas, Pawan and Radha Ravi.

Sharafudheen, Vishnu Unnikrishnan and Dhruvan team up for Shafi’s Children’s Park

Shafi is one of the most successful filmmakers in Malayalam cinema. When compared to his peers, his success ratio is quite high with very few failures in his near-two-decade long career. The director is a favourite among the family audience as most of his films have been crowd-pleasing comedy entertainers. After the massive success of ‘Two Countries’, Shafi is teaming up with his brother Rafi for a new movie titled ‘Children’s Park’.

Rafi is scripting the movie which has around 75 kids as part of the cast. Sharafudheen, Vishnu Unnikrishnan and ‘Queen’ fame Dhruvan have been signed to play the lead roles. The movie also has three heroines in Manasa Radhakrishnan, Gayathri Suresh and Soumya Menon. The supporting cast includes veteran Madhu, Dharmajan Bolgatty, Sreejith Ravi, Shivaji Guruvayoor, Nobi and Basil.

On the technical side, Faisal Ali is the cinematographer and Sajan will be handling the edits. Roopesh Omana and Milan Jaleel are producing the movie under the banner of Cochin Films. Shoot for the movie has commenced in Munnar with a customary pooja ceremony.

The highly anticipated Rosshan Andrrews directorial Kayamkulam Kochunni is storming screens on October 11. Along with Nivin Pauly, the presence of Mohanlal in the cast is the movie’s major selling point. The two stars are coming together for the first time, and fans are highly excited about it. Natural, the pre-release hype is massive and the makers are planning to make the maximum out of it.

If reports are to be believed, the movie will be released in over 300 screens across Kerala alone. They have already acquired license for six shows on opening day, which starts with the first show from morning 7 AM. Another interesting info is that the makers have planned to screen the movie non-stop for 24 hours in 19 centres. Multiplex giant Carnival Cinemas have joined hands for this initiative and they will be screening the movie non-stop on the opening day. Though many other films have had 24 hour screenings on the opening day, this is the first time that it is being done on such a large scale.

As the release date is nearing, the makers have released a new teaser in social medias. Nivin Pauly plays Kochunni’s role in this movie while Mohanlal is there in an extended cameo role as Ithikkara Pakki. The two actors are coming together for the first time, and fans are highly excited about it.

Pranav Mohanlal has been shooting for Irupathiyonnaam Noottaandu for sometime now. The movie is being written and directed by Arun Gopy of ‘Ramaleela’ fame. Tomichan Mulakupadam is producing the movie under his banner Mulakupadam Films. Ever since its announcement, the makers have been tight-lipped about the genre or details regarding Pranav’s character.

We have to come to know that, Pranav is playing the role of a surfer in the movie. The design in the title poster also hints the same. The team of Irupathiyonnam Noottandu including Arun Gopy and Pranav have flown to Bali island to shoot the surfing portions.

The makers got India’s leading action choreographer, Peter Hein on board. So, we can expect to see some never-before-seen kind of gripping surfing sequences. Since Pranav is used to doing gymnastics, skydiving and rock climbing, he has a fluid and flexible body language. Abinandan Ramanjunam, well known for his excellent work in Amen and Mosayile Kuthira Meenukal, is cranking the camera.

Irupathiyonnaam Noottaandu is said to be a travel based romantic flick. A newcomer has been signed to play Pranav’s romantic interest. Kalabhavan Shajon, Manoj K Jayan, Shaju Sreedhar, Abhishek and Krishna Prasad will be seen in supporting roles.

In the technical front, Gopi Sunder will be handling the music department. Editor Vivek Harshan, sound designer Renganaath Ravee and art director Joseph Nellickal are also part of the team. The movie is slated for a January release next year.

After the smashing success of his gangster-comedy Padayottam, Biju Menon is back with a murder mystery this time. His new movie ‘Aanakallan’ is a thriller that has him playing the role of a mysterious man who dons various roles to get by in life. The movie is being directed by Suresh Divakar of ‘Ivan Maryadharaman’ fame.

The official trailer of Aanakallan has been released recently in social medias. It was met with good response from the viewers. The movie scripted by Udhayakrishna has three female leads in Anusree, Shamna Kasim and Kaniha. Bala, Siddique, Sai Kumar, Kailas, Sudheer Karamana, Hareesh Kanaran, Suresh Krishna, Devan, Anil Murali, Janardhanan, Bindu Panicker and Priyanka form the huge supporting cast.

In the technical crew, Alby cranks the camera and John Kutty is handling the edits. The multi faceted Nadirshah is in charge of composing the music. Biju Menon has lent his voice for a fun track in the movie. Aanakallan is being produced under the banner of Saptha Tarang Cinema.

‘Argentina Fans Kattoorkadavu’ team conduct an acting workshop

As we had reported earlier, Midhun Manuel Thomas’ next is a fun entertainer starring Kalidas Jayaram and Aishwarya Lekshmi in lead roles. The movie titled as ‘Argentina Fans Kaattoorkadavu’ is produced by Ashiq Usman under the banner of Ashiq Usman productions. Last month, the makers had conducted auditons to cast newcomers in various roles. They also have also roped in some real-life football crazy fans for the movie.

Recently, an acting workshop was held for the newcomers. Midhun Manuel, Innocent, Sunny Wayne, scriptwriter Naveen Bhaskar, Aishwarya Lekshmi and Kalidas Jayaram were among the known faces in the workshop. Acting workshops are a great way of bringing together the newcomers and helps to create a good rapport among them. The filmmaker can also observe each closely and groom them accordingly.

‘Argentina Fans Kaattoorkadavu’ is based on a short story by Ashokan Charuvil. Midhun Manuel and John Manthrikal are jointly scripting the movie. From the title, we presume the movie to be a fun entertainer revolving around a bunch of football fans. This is the first time Kalidas and Aishwarya Lekshmi are working together, so their on-screen chemistry is something exciting to look forward to.

In the technical crew, ‘CIA’ fame Renadive will be cranking the camera and Noble Thomas will be handling the edits. Gopi Sunder has been signed as the composer. Central Pictures will be distributing the movie in Kerala. Details regarding when the movie goes on floors will be announced shortly.

The audio launch of Vijay’s Sarkar was held last day in a private college in Chennai. The event was a grand affair attended by all the team members of Sarkar and hundreds of fans. AR Rahman’s songs were performed live in the event. The music album boasts of five songs – ‘Simtaangaran’, ‘Oruviral Puratchi’, ‘Toptucker’, ‘OMG Ponnu’ and ‘CEO in the House’. Except for the first two songs, it is a full-on techno album from the Mozart.

‘Simtaangaran’ is a thara-local track with Vivek’s quirky lyrics being the major highlight. Bamba Bakiya, Vipin Aneja and Aparna Narayan have lent their voices for this track. With Vijay’s energetic dance, this song will definitely become a rage among the fans.

After ‘Ella Pugazhum’ and ‘Aaalaporan Tamizhan’, ‘Oru Viral Puratchi’ is AR Rahman’s latest anthem for Vijay. The song is an instant hit. It has a strong political flavour and stresses on the public’s voting rights. Rahman and Srinidhi Venkatesh have sung this track that has some very powerful lyrics.

‘Top Tucker’ sung by Mohit Chauhan is another one of those experimental tracks from AR Rahman.

‘OMG Ponnu’ sung by Sid Sriram and Jonita Gandhi is similar to the ‘Macho’ track from Mersal. This fast paced track is most likely to work well with Vijay and Keerthy Suresh’s dance steps.

‘CEO in the House’ is the intro song that was shot in Las Vegas. Vijay and Varalaxmi Sarath Kumar feature in this song. Sung by Nakul Abhyankar and rapper Blaaze, this track is high on energy and again is expected to be a treat for the fans with Vijay’s dance moves.

Except for the first two songs, all the other tracks have a western influence and it syncs well considering the fact that Vijay plays a multi-millionaire techie in the movie. This AR Murugadoss directorial has high expectations as Vijay’s previous two outings (Thupakki and Kaththi) with the director were hugely successful. The movie is scheduled to hit screens worldwide for Deepavali, on November 6.

Bollywood actors also part of Mammootty starrer ‘Unda’

Mammootty’s next with ‘Anuraga Karikkin Vellam’ (AKV) fame Khalid Rahman is getting ready to go on floors. The movie titled as ‘Unda’ is an action-comedy entertainer. Pre-production works including casting process is in its final stages. The team is currently in Chhattisgarh, where major portions of the movie has been planned to be shot.

The story of Unda is about a police unit who are on election duty in the Naxalite prone areas in North India.
Khalid Rahman has penned the story and screenplay is by Harshad. Mammootty is playing the role of a cop in the movie. His character, Sub-inspector Mani is just like the policeman we see in our everyday life. It is said to be a fun role that is entirely different from the cop characters that Mammootty has done so far in his career.

Since major portions of the movie is set in North India, the makers have roped in a few noted actors from Bollywood. Omkar Das Manikpuri, Bhagwan Tiwari and Chien Ho Liao are some of the North Indian actors who have been cast in Unda. Omkar Das js noted for his roles in movies like Peepli Live and Newton. Bhagwan Tiwari, who has been part of films like Special 26, A Wednesday, Raees, Masaan etc, will be seen in a crucial role in Unda.

Malayali actors like Shine Tom Chacko, Jacob Gregory, Sudhi Koppa, Arjun Ashokan, Dileesh Pothan, and Alencier Ley Lopez are also part of the cast. Its technical crew includes cinematographer Gavemic U Ary of ‘Jigarthanda’ fame, music director Prashanth Pillai and stunt choreographer Sham Kaushal. Movie Mill will be presenting the movie in association with Gemini Studio. The movie is slated to go on floors by October 20 and is scheduled to hit screens in January, 2019.
