Samara Shankham: Here’s the first song from Mammootty’s Yatra

As informed earlier by us, the first song from Mammootty’s Telugu movie Yatra has been released today. The song titled as ‘Samara Shankham’ is rendered by Kaala Bhairava and composed by K (Krisha Kumar). Sirivennela Seetharama Sastry has written its powerful lyrics.

Yatra, which is the biopic of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy, has Mammootty playing YSR. The movie is written and directed by Mahi Raghav. It also stars Rao Ramesh, Anasuya, Posani Krishna Murali, Vinod Kumar and Sachin Khedekar in supporting roles.

YSR is one of the most popular and revered politicians that the state of Andhra Pradesh has ever seen. Yatra, according to the makers, is an event-based film which primarily focuses on the time during YSR’s famous three-month-long padayatra in 2003. The padayatra was a defining moment in his career which transformed him into a people’s leader. The newly released song captures the visuals of the famous padayatra.

Apart from Mammootty, Yatra also stars Rao Ramesh, Anasuya Bharadwaj, Suhasini Mani Ratnam, Posani Krishna Murali, Vinod Kumar and Sachin Khedekar. Popular Tamil star Karthi is also said to be playing a crucial role in the movie, but the makers have still not confirmed it. Sathyan Sooryan is the DOP and Sreekar Prasad is handling the edits. Vijay Chilla and Shashi Devi are jointly producing the movie under their banner of 70MM Entertainments.

As informed earlier by the makers, the trailer of Sivakarthikeyan starrer Seemaraja was released last day. From the trailer, the movie looks like a typical rural mass entertainer with all necessary commercial ingredients in it. Ponram, who has worked with Sivakarthikeyan in Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam and Rajini Murugan, is directing this movie as well.

Seemaraja has Samantha paired with Sivakarthikeyan for the first time. ‘Remo’ actress Keerthy Suresh is also there in a cameo role in Seemaraja. The movie has a bunch of negative characters. Simran, one of the leading heroines of her time, is playing one of the antagonists. Malayali actor Lal, Soori, Napoleon, KS Ravikumar, Motta Rajendran, Sathish, Yogi Babu and Manobala are also part of the supporting cast.

Seemaraja’s technical crew includes composer D Imman, cinematographer Balasubramaniem and National award winning editor Vivek Harshan. RD Raja’s 24 AM Studios is producing the movie, which is slated for release on September 13.

Aneesh G Menon, a highly promising Malayali actor, has shared the big news about his marriage to his followers in Facebook. He has posted photos from his engagement ceremony in his official account. He got engaged to Aishwarya Rajan, a fine arts graduate based in Bangalore. In his post, Aneesh has mentioned that his marriage will be a simple ceremony and added that the date will be informed soon. He also seeked blessings from everyone.

Aneesh G Menon, who hails from Malappuram, started his career as a children’s theater director. He later joined the popular group KPSC as a drama artist and has done almost 1000 stage shows in India. He made his acting debut with Apoorvaragam. He is best known for his roles in movies like Best Actor, Drishyam, KL 10 Patthu, Valliyum Thetti Pulliyum Thetti and Queen.

Aneesh was last seen in a notable role in Zakariya Mohammed’s Sudani From Nigeria. He is also part of some big upcoming films like Njan Prakashan, Kayamkulam Kochunni, Odiyan and Lucifer.

Jayaram and Anna Reshma Rajan team up for ‘Lonapante Mamotheesa’

After a series of duds, Jayaram is back to winning ways with the success of Panchavarnathatha. While there is a buzz going around that the actor has committed for Omar Lulu’s new movie, we now hear he has signed for a fun entertainer titled ‘Lonapante Mamotheesa’. The movie will be directed by Leo Thaddeus, who has made films like Pachamarathanalil and Oru Cinemakkaaran.

The makers have signed Anna Reshma Rajan of ‘Angamaly Diaries’ to play one of the heroines. Her performance in the Lijo Jose Pellissery directorial had won her a lot of fans. She later went on to act with superstar Mohanlal in Velipadinte Pusthakam and is also the female lead in the upcoming Dhyan Sreenivasan starrer Sachin.

Along with Anna, Lonappante Mamotheesa will also have another heroine, but the makers are yet to finalize it. Veteran actress Shanthi Krishna will be seen in a crucial role in the movie. Innocent, Eva Pavithran, Nisha Sarang, Alencier Ley Lopez, Dileesh Pothan and Joju George have been cast in various supporting roles.

Lonappante Mamotheesa is being produced by Shimnoy Mathew of Pen and Paper Creations. Shoot for the movie is all set to kick-start on September 5th in Angamaly.

Shoot for Mohanlal’s upcoming movie Lucifer is currently progressing in Trivandrum. The movie which marks the directorial debut of actor Prithviraj is scripted by Murali Gopy. Besides Mohanlal, Lucifer also has a host of stars like Indrajith, Vivek Oberoi, Tovino Thomas and Manju Warrier. Vivek Oberoi, who has previously acted with Mohanlal in Company, is making his Malayalam debut with Lucifer.

Vivek Oberoi has already joined the team and is part of the ongoing schedule in Trivandrum. In a recent interview to TOI, the actor opened up about him landing in the movie and his experience so far with the team. Apparently, many offers from Malayalam cinema had reached him prior to Lucifer but he was determined to make his M-Town debut with a Mohanlal starrer. His longtime wish came true when Prithviraj approached him with the script of Lucifer.

About Lucifer, Vivek is quoted saying, “It is a very exciting project and I don’t know whether I will get a role like this in Hindi. I can say that as an actor, Prithvi has pushed me to a point where it is challenging and exciting to play it. I don’t think I have played a character of this sort in my entire career. It’s a character with many layers of grey and is a crazy experience.”

Vivek Oberoi also rates Malayalam cinema as extremely mature. The actor is having a tough time learning the Malayalam language but has taken up the challenge with guidance from his director Prithviraj and co-stars Mohanlal and Manju Warrier.

Lucifer, according to the makers, is a political thriller with elements of a mass entertainer. Mohanlal is playing a politician’s role in the movie. Vivek Oberoi is said to be the antagonist while details about Tovino’s and Indrajith’s characters are not yet known. There is also a buzz going around that Prithviraj is playing an extended cameo role in the movie, but it is yet to confirmed.

This yet-to-be titled movie is said to be a triangular love story. AK Sajan is well known for his brand of crime thrillers; this is his first attempt in directing a light hearted entertainer. Since his last few films failed to taste success, the director would be trying hard to deliver a hit this time.

Siju Wilson and Sharafudheen share a great rapport as they have worked together in Premam, Happy Wedding, Njandukalude Nattil Oridavela and Aadhi. Interestingly, all the three lead actors – Siju Wilson, Sharafudheen and Anu Sithara – have previously worked together in Omar Lulu’s Happy Wedding.

Shoot for this AK Sajan directorial commenced recently in Kozhikode. Siyad Koker is producing the movie under the banner of Koker’s Films. More details regarding the other cast and crew members are expected to be made shorty.

80s stars donate 40 lakh to Kerala CM’s distress relief fund

Following the floods that rocked the state of Kerala, the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund has seen a lot of generous contributions from people belonging to various stratas of the society. Commoners, bureaucrats, film personalities, sportspersons, businessmen and many others have donated to the relief fund to help better the lives of those affected by the disastrous floods.

Yesteryear movie actors from across the country have now done their part by contributing Rs 40 lakh to the relief. The 80s stars group consists of both male and female actors, mostly from the South. Representing the group, actors Suhasini Mani Ratnam, Lissi and Khusbhu Sundar met state CM Pinarayi Vijayan to hand over the cheque. The fund was together raised by Mani Ratnam, Jackie Shroff, Poornima Bhagyaraj, Sundar, Rajkumar Sethupathi, Saritha, Jayasudha, Avani Cinemax, Casino Majong Foundation, Malta Honorary Counsel Santhakumar and Mauritius Honorary Counsel Raviraman.

Most of the above mentioned actors have worked in Malayalam cinema and share a close bond with Kerala and its people. Doing their share for the lakhs affected by floods is indeed a kind gesture.

The versatile Jayasurya is celebrating his 40th birthday today. The actor has been getting wishes from fans, well wishers and colleagues all across the globe. Malayalam cinema’s stylish star Dulquer Salmaan took to his official Facebook handle to wish Jayasurya. Sharing one of their selfies, Dulquer has written,

Wishing dearest jayettan the happiest birthday ! Always full of love and encouragement and a smile on your face. May god always keep you and your family healthy and happy ! (sic)

Jayasurya is currently going through a purple patch. Of late, he has got some well deserved hits under his belt. His last release ‘Njan Marykutty’ earned him widespread praise for his performance. Apart from the critical acclaim, the Ranjith Sankar directorial also emerged successful at the box office. It is his foruth hit on a trot after ‘Punyalan Private Limited’, ‘Aadu 2’ and ‘Captain’.

Jayasurya currently has a handful of projects in his kitty. He has committed for ‘Pretham 2’ with Ranjith Sankar and a movie outside ‘Aadu’ franchise with Midhun Manuel Thomas. He has also signed for a new movie, ‘Home’ in which he will be playing a dual role. Rojin Thomas of ‘Philips and the Monkey Pen’ fame will be directing it.

“Mohanlal nails it as Ithikkara Pakki”; Rave reviews from Kayamkulam Kochunni preview show!

Kayamkulam Kochunni is unarguably one of the most awaited Malayalam movies of the year. This epic film directed by Rosshan Andrrews is based on Kochunni, a legendary highwayman who lived in the 18th century. Nivin Pauly plays the titular role in the movie which also stars superstar Mohanlal in a cameo role. Gokulam Gopalan of Sri Gokulam Films has produced this movie, which is said to be one of the most expensive films ever made in Malayalam cinema.

Recently, the makers had organised a preview show at YRF Studios, Mumbai. The show was attended by director Rosshan Andrrews, Mohanlal, Nivin Pauly and other selected invitees. Critics who watched the movie have heaped positive reviews with unanimous applause for the performances. Mohanlal’s performance as Ithikara Pakki and his combination scenes with Nivin Pauly are said to be the movie’s major highlights. The veteran star has a screen time of around 30 minutes in the movie.

After the preview show, noted critic Sethumadhavan Napan tweeted,
