Excellent reviews from Kayamkulam Kochunni preview show!

Kayamkulam Kochunni is one of the most hyped Malayalam movies of the year. This epic film directed by Rosshan Andrrews is based on a legendary highwayman who lived in the 18th century. Nivin Pauly plays the titular role in the movie which also stars superstar Mohanlal in an extended cameo role. Gokulam Gopalan of Sri Gokulam Films has produced this movie, which is said to be one of the most expensive ever in Malayalam cinema.

Kayamkulam Kochunni was supposed to hit screens for Onam but got postponed due to the flash floods that struck Kerala. As per reports, the movie has now been slated for Pooja release in October. As part of promotions, the makers organised a preview show at YRF Studios, Mumbai. The show was attended by director Rosshan Andrrews, Nivin Pauly and other selected invitees.

Reviews after the show have largely been positive. Critic Sethumadhavan Napan tweeted,

The multi-talented SJ Suryah is more into acting these days. He has many new projects exciting projects lined up for him. Last day, he made a massive announcement about his new film. He will be teaming up with none other than superstar Amitabh Bachchan for a Tamil-Hindi bilingual film. The movie titled as Uyarndha Manithan will be directed by Tamilvanan and bankrolled by Thiruchendur Murugan productions.

Last day, Amitabh Bachchan, SJ Suryah and the team of Uyarndha Manithan attended a press meet to announce the movie officially. The big news was welcomed not just by Tamil cinema lovers, but by the industry insiders as well. Celebrities like AR Murugadoss Atlee, Vishnu Vishal, Priya Bhavani Shankar and many others wished luck for SJ Suryah and the team.

Tamilvanan, who directed the S.J. Suryah-Nayanthara starrer ‘Kalvanin Kadhali’ is making a comeback after several years with Uyarndha Manithan. The movie was first in news in 2016 when the director approached Amitabh Bachchan with the script. It took over two years for the makers to convince the superstar and get him on board. This will be Bachchan’s debut Tamil film after ruling the Indian film industry for over four decades.

Chiyaan Vikram has two films coming up for release – Saamy Square and Dhruva Natchathiram. Without wasting any time, the actor has joined the sets of his next. The movie is being directed by Rajesh M Selva of ‘Thoongavanam’ fame. Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan is producing the movie under his banner Raj Kamal International and Tridents Arts.

Kamal Haasan’s younger daughter Akshara Haasan is also playing a very crucial role in the movie.
pretty actress was last seen in Ajith’s spy-thriller Vivegam. Her upcoming movie with Vikram is also said to be an action thriller and will be shot in international locations. Ghibran has been signed as the music director.

Director Rajesh M Selva has previously made two films – Kaalaippani and Thoongavanam. The latter flick starring Kamal Haasan is the remake of the French thriller Sleepless Nights aka Nuit Blanche. The movie, released in 2015, garnered critical acclaimed and emerged as a moderate success at the box office.

Biju Menon’s next with ‘Oru Vadakkan Selfie’ G Prajith starts rolling

We had reported earlier about Biju Menon signing a new movie with director G Prajith of ‘Oru Vadakkan Selfie’ fame. This yet-to-be titled movie went on floors today. Sajeev Pazhoor, who penned the widely acclaimed Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum (TD), is scripting this movie. Rema Devi of Green TV Entertainers is producing the movie jointly with Sandeep Senan and Aneesh M Thomas of Urvasi Pictures.

This is Prajith’s second film in Malayalam. He had also remade his hit film Oru Vadakkan Selfie in Telugu as Meda Meeda Abbayi. This upcoming Biju Menon starrer is also Sajeev Pazhoor’s next after he won the National award for best screenplay (Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum). Expectations will be on the higher side for this movie. Our sources within the industry inform that it will be a gripping realistic film with good scope for performance. More details regarding the cast and crew members is expected to be made official soon.

Biju Menon meanwhile is awaiting the release of Padayottam, directed by debutant Rafeek Ibrahim. The movie has the actor in a never-before-seen mass avatar as Chenkal Raju, a Trivandrum based local gangster. Biju Menon also has Anakallan, a fun entertainer with ‘Ivan Maryadharaman’ fame

Midhun Manuel Thomas, who is fresh from the blockbuster success of Aadu 2, will be directing a fun entertainer next. The movie titled as ‘Argentina Fans Kaattoorkadavu’ will have Kalidas Jayaram and Aishwarya Lekshmi in lead roles. Ashiq Usman is producing the movie under his banner Ashiq Usman productions.

Midhun Manuel and John Manthrikal are jointly scripting Argentina Fans Kaattoorkadavu based on a short story by Ashokan Charuvil. From the title, we presume that the movie to be a fun entertainer revolving around a bunch of football fans. Last month, the makers had conducted auditions to cast newcomers in various roles.
The makers have also roped in some real-life football crazy fans in the movie.

This is the first time Kalidas and Aishwarya Lekshmi are working together, so their on-screen chemistry will be something exciting to look forward to. In the technical crew, Renadive will be cranking the camera and Noble Thomas will be handling the edits. Gopi Sunder has been signed as the composer. Central Pictures will be distributing the movie in Kerala. Details regarding when the movie goes on floors will be announced shortly.

Midhun Manuel also has a couple of other projects in the pipeline. Besides working on the scripts of Kottayam Kunjachan 2 and Aadu 3, the director is also collaborating with Jayasurya for a project out of the Aadu franchise.

Last day, Jayasurya’s new movie was announced with director Rojin Thomas, with whom he had previously worked in ‘Philips and the Monkey Pen’. Vijay Babu of Friday Film House is producing the movie which has almost the same technical team from Monkey Pen. As per latest reports, this upcoming movie has been titled as ‘Home’ and will have Jayasurya playing a dual role.

Jayasurya, who is well known for his versatility, will be portraying the roles of a 60-year-old and his son in this movie. Home will be a feel-good story that explores that dynamics of a father-son relationship. Interestingly, this movie was first planned with Antony Varghese of ‘Angamaly Diaries’ fame but the idea was later dropped due to some unknown reasons.

Rojin Thomas co-directed ‘Philips and The Monkey Pen’ with Shanil Muhammed. The movie, which was released in 2013, emerged as a sleeper hit, winning both critical and commercial acclaim. Rojin later directed ‘Jo and The Boy’ with Manju Warrier, but the movie failed to click at the box office. For his new movie with Jayasurya, Rojin has retained his core team of technicians – DOP Neil DCunha and composer Rahul Subrahamanian.

Odiyan release postponed?

Odiyan is one of the most hyped Malayalam movie in recent years. The movie based on the life of odiyans has superstar Mohanlal playing the lead role. Ad filmmaker VA Shrikumar Menon marks his feature-film directorial debut with this movie. The makers had announced that Odiyan will hit screens worldwide on October 11. But the latest we hear is that the release is most likely to be postponed.

Following the disastrous floods that rocked the state of Kerala, many films that were supposed during the Onam season had to be pushed. Various organizations in the Malayalam film industry including the Producers council, distributors and exhibitors union are currently alloting the new release dates. This unexpected change in dates has affected the plans of various films, including biggies like Odiyan.

As per latest reports, Odiyan will hit screens only in December during the Christmas reason. Likewise, Pranav Mohanlal’s Irupathiyonnam Nootandu, which was scheduled as Chistmans release will most probably be pushed for January next year. An official word regarding the release dates are still awaited.

A sequel for Dileep-Joshiy team’s Runway has been in the news for a long time now. Dileep had officially announced the project back in 2016 during the shoot of Welcome to Central Jail, but it failed to kick off. After two years, we now hear that the long pending film is set to resume.

Valayar Paramsivam is supposedly the spin-off on Dileep’s lead character from Runway. Touted to be a mass entertainer, the movie is to be directed by veteran Joshiy, who helmed the first part as well. It remains to be seen if Indrajith and Kavya Madhavan, who played prominent roles in Runway will be retained in the sequel as well. An official announcement is expected to be made shortly.

Meanwhile, Dileep will be shooting for Professor Dinkan. The movie directed by cinematographer-turned-filmmaker Ramachandra Babu is being made in 3D format on a high budget. Dileep also has a movie each with Nadirshah and B Unnikrishnan in the pipeline.

Official: NGK pulls out; No clash with Sarkar for Diwali

Suriya’s NGK is highly anticipated by the Tamil cinema audience. The movie marks his first time collaboration with the ace filmmaker Selvaraghavan. Touted to be a political drama, the movie has Suriya playing the role of an MLA. Sai Pallavi and Rakul Preet Singh play the two female leads in the movie. Right from its announcement, NGK was planned as a Diwali release but the makers have now decided to postpone it to a further date.

Producers Dream Warriors Pictures have issued an official statement informing about the postponing. NGK’s shoot was progressing at a brisk pace but director Selvaraghavan’s health issues forced a delay in shooting schedules. The movie was supposed to clash with Vijay’s Sarkar for this Diwali. Both the films being political entertainers, many were eagerly looking forward to the clash.

Since it is clear that the makers of NGK are eyeing a date post Diwali, Christmas or New Year seems to be the most favorable time. NGK is said to be one of the most challenging films that Suriya has done so far in his career. So the makers will most likely be looking for a solo release to ensure a grand opening.
