No words to describe, just mind-blowing: Nivin Pauly on Ranam trailer

Last day, the trailer of Prithviraj starrer Ranam was released in social medias. The movie directed by Nirmal Sahadev is based on the lives of the immigrant community in Detroit, Michigan. Mohanlal released the trailer through his official Facebook page. Ever since then, the trailer has been getting phenomenal response from the viewers. It is argubaly one of the most stylish trailer ever for a Malayalam movie. Not just the common cinephiles, celebrities have also been highly impressed by it.

Nivin Pauly shared the trailer in his Facebook page and wrote,

Nirmal Sahadev, no words to describe this trailer…just mind blowing! Prithviraj Sukumaran, you nailed it! Rahman sir, it’s always a treat to watch you! Waiting for #Ranam!

Nivin Pauly shares a good rapport with Nirmal Sahadev as they have worked together in Ivide and Hey Jude. While Nirmal was an assistant director in Ivde, he was one of the script writers of Hey Jude.

Ranam, set entirely in the US, looks like an Hollywood style action-thriller from its promos. Prithviraj reportedly plays a Tamil street gang member in the movie. Nirmal Sahadev has scripted this movie based on real life incidents. Rahman, Isha Talwar, Ashwin K Kumar, Shyamaprasad, Nandu and a lot of foreign actors are part of the cast.

Ranam’s technical crew comprises of cinematographer Jigme Tenzing, composer Jakes Bejoy, editor Sreejith Sarang and Christopher Brunetti, a renowned stuntman who has worked in many Hollywood movies. It is produced jointly by Anand Kumar Payyanur of Yes Cinema Company and Rani Lawson Biju of Lawson Entertainment.

The biopic of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy is currently on the floors. The movie directed by Mahi Raghav has Malayalam superstar Mammootty playing YSR. Vijay Chilla and Shashi Devi are jointly producing the movie under their banner of 70MM Entertainments. The makers have announced that the lyric video of the song ‘Samara Shankham’ the movie will be released on September 2.

Earlier, the teaser of Yatra had garnered great response from the viewers. Mammootty for his perfect diction of the Telugu language and his famed voice modulation in the teaser enhanced the expectations for the movie. YSR is one of the most popular and revered politicians that the state of Andhra Pradesh has ever seen. So naturally, it is one of the most challenging roles that Mammootty has done his career so far.

Yatra, according to the makers, is an event-based film which primarily focuses on the time during YSR’s famous three-month-long padayatra in 2003. The padayatra was a defining moment in his career which transformed him into a people’s leader. Apart from Mammootty, the movie also stars Rao Ramesh, Anasuya Bharadwaj, Suhasini Mani Ratnam, Posani Krishna Murali, Vinod Kumar and Sachin Khedekar. Popular Tamil star Karthi is also said to be playing a crucial role in the movie, but the makers have still not confirmed it.

The long dealyed Prithviraj starrer Ranam is finally releasing next month. The movie’s trailer was released today through Mohanlal’s official Facebook page. This stylishly cut trailer gives glimpses of Hollywood style action-thriller. Debutant Nirmal Sahadev is directing this movie which also has Rahman and Isha Talwar in major roles.

Shot entirely in the US, the movie explores the lives of the immigrant community in Detroit, Michigan.
Prithviraj reportedly plays a Tamil street gang member in the movie. Nirmal Sahadev, who is a former associate of Shyamaprasad, has scripted this movie based on real life incidents. Ashwin K Kumar, Shyamaprasad, Nandu and a lot of foreign actors are also part of the supporting cast.

‘Siruthai’ Siva is a well known name in Tamil cinema circles. After successfully delivering a blockbuster with his debut film, the director preferred to work with Thala Ajith for all his successive films. They worked together in three films – Veeram, Vedhalam and Vivegam. A fourth one, Viswasam, is currently in the making. It finally looks like Siva will be working with another actor besides Ajith.

Buzz is that the director’s next will be with Telugu superstar Allu Arjun. Reports suggest that they are in talks for a Tamil-Telugu bilingual which will be funded by KE Gnanavel Raja’s Studio Green. It is worth a mention that the producer had earlier announced a Tamil-Telugu bilingual with Allu Arjun and Lingusamy. However, it is now being reported that Lingusamy has been replaced by Siva for the same project.

If everything goes as per plans, Siva-Allu Arjun film will go on floors early next year. The movie’s official announcement is expected to be made shortly. Siva is currently busy with the shoot of Viswasam. The movie which stars Ajith in a dual role has Nayanthara playing the female lead. It is slated for a grand Pongal release in January 2019.

‘Demonte Colony’ fame Ajay Gnanamuthu’s crime thriller Imaikka Nodigal is all set to hit screens on Thursday (August 30). The movie stars Nayanthara, Anurag Kashyap, Atharvaa Murali and Raashi Khanna in the lead roles. Vijay Sethupathi is also there in a cameo role as Nayanthara’s husband. A new song featuring the ‘Naanum Rowdy Dhaan’ pair was released today in social medias. The song titled ‘Neeyum Naanum Anbe’ is rendered by Raghu Dixit, Sathyapraksh and D Jithin Raj. Kabilan has penned its lyrics and is set to tuned by Hiphop Tamizha.

Imaikka Nodigal is a thriller centred around a cat and mouse game between a CBI officer and a psychotic killer. Nayanathara plays the role of officer Anjali Vikramadityan in the movie while Bollywood filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, in his Tamil debut, plays the antagonist. Raashi Khanna is paired with Atharvaa in the move.
Ramesh Thilak, Devan and Uday Mahesh are also part of the supporting cast.

Imaikka Nodigal is scripted by director Ajay Gnanamuthu and dialogues are penned by the renowned novelist Pattukkottai Prabakar. The movie has its music composed by Hiphop Tamizha. RD Rajasekhar is cranking the camera and Bhuvan Srinivasan is in charge of the edits. CJ Jayakumar is finding the movie under the banner of Cameo Films India.

After floods wreaked havoc like never before, the state of Kerala is slowly inching its way back to normalcy. Rehabilitation works are still progressing in many parts with the combined efforts of government officials and volunteers. During this unfortunate disaster, we saw many commoners turning heroes. The social commitment of our reel-life heroes were also there to be seen with most of them stalling all their other works to help and rehabilitate those affected by the floods.

Among the younger lot of heroes in Malayalam cinema, Nivin Pauly was one of the most active in the relief works. Besides sharing information through his social media handles, he also visited many camps in his hometown Aluva and arranged basic necessities for hundreds staying in the camps. On Wednesday, he personally visited Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to offer financial assistance. Nivin handed over a cheque of Rs 25 lakhs to the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF).

Speaking to the media persons after meeting the CM, Nivin said that the government is dealing with the disaster in very efficiently. He appreciated the spirit of Keralites who have been facing the disaster with unity and strong will power. Apart from Nivin, many other Malayali actors like Indrajith, Tovino Thomas, Jayasurya, Asif Ali, Sunny Wayne, Aju Varghese and Balu Varghese contributed to the relief operations.

Shoot for Mohanlal’s upcoming movie Lucifer is currently progressing in Trivandrum. The movie which marks the directorial debut of actor Prithviraj is scripted by Murali Gopy. Besides Mohanlal, Lucifer also has a host of stars like Indrajith, Vivek Oberoi, Tovino Thomas and Manju Warrier.

Last day, Tovino was spotted shooting for the movie at Kanakunnu Palace grounds in the captial city. The actor who was busy with the flood relief and rehabilitation works in his hometown Irinjalakuda joined the sets of Lucifer only recently. He is said to be essaying a crucial part in the movie.

Lucifer, according to the makers, is a political thriller with elements of a mass entertainer. Mohanlal is playing politician’s role in the movie. His character is named as Stephen Nadumballi. He sports a salt and pepper hairstyle and a full-white look in the movie. Vivek Oberoi is said to be the antagonist while details about Tovino’s and Indrajith’s characters are not yet known. There is also a buzz going around that Prithviraj is playing an extended cameo role in the movie, but it is yet to confirmed.

Lucifer’s supporting cast includes Kalabhavan Shajon, Sai Kumar, director Fazil, Sunil Sughatha, Thara Kalyan, Praveena Thomas and Mala Parvathy. In the technical crew, Sujith Vaassudev cranks the camera and Deepak Dev handles the music department. The makers have planned a month long shoot in Trivandrum. Vandi Periyar, Kumili, Bengaluru, Ernakulam and Mumbai are the other major locations.

Post Poomaram, Kalidas Jayaram has his kitty full with a handful of films. He has already signed for new projects with directors Jeethu Jospeh, Alphonse Puthren and Karthick Naren. As per latest reports, Kalidas has also given his nod for Midhun Manuel Thomas’ new film titled ‘Argentina Fans Kaattoorkadavu’. Last day, the director posted a photo of him alongside Kalidas, Jayaram and producer Aashiq Usman in his social media handle.

As the title ‘Argentina Fans Kaattoorkadavu’ suggests, this upcoming movie will be a fun entertainer revolving around a bunch of football fans. Last month, the makers had conducted auditions to cast newcomers in various roles. Reportedly, they are planning to cast real life football crazy fans in the movie. More details regarding the full cast and crew are expected to be announced in the coming days.

Midhun Manuel also has a couple of other projects in the pipeline. Besides working on the scripts of Kottayam Kunjachan 2 and Aadu 3, the director is also collaborating with Jayasurya for a project out of the Aadu franchise.

Of late, Malayalam cinema has seen a lot of actors turning to film making. After Sidharth Bharathan, Nadirshah, Vineeth Kumar, Prithviraj, Dhyan Sreenivasan, Salim Kumar and Ramesh Pisharody, latest to join the bandwagon is veteran Harisree Ashokan. His directorial debut titled as ‘An International Local Story’ is all set to go on floors.

Rahul Madhav, Dharmajan Bolgatty and Surabhi Santhosh of ‘Kuttanadan Marpapa’ have been signed to play major roles in the movie. From the title and its poster, the movie promises to be a comedy entertainer. M Shijith and Shaheer Shan are jointly producing the movie under the banner of S Square Cinemas. The makers are having a customary pooja ceremony on September 3 at Town Hall, Ernakulam.

Starting his career as a mimicry artist, Harisree Ashokan went on to star in over 100 films with almost all the superstars of the industry. Last year, his son Arjun Ashokan made his acting debut with Soubin Shahir’s Parava. It will be interesting to see if Harisree Ashokan casts his son in his directorial debut.
