Bollywood star Ajay Devgn likely to make his Tamil debut with Indian 2

As we had reported earlier, maverick filmmaker Shankar and Kamal Haasan are reuniting for the sequel of their 1996 hit film, Indian. One of Kollywood’s leading banners, Lyca Productions is funding the movie. The makers are planning the sequel on a massive scale with several prominent actors besides Kamal Haasan.

In a recent interaction with media, Haasan revealed that Bollywood star Ajay Devgn will be a part of Indian 2. Director Shankar has already initiated talks with Devgn and an official announcement regarding his casting is expected to be made shortly. If it materializes, then Indian 2 will mark the Tamil debut of Devgn.

Shankar is scripting the movie and dialogues are being penned by Jeyamohan, Kabilan Vairmuthu and Lakshmi Saravanakumar. Indian 2 will have Kamal Haasan reprising his role of Senapathi, a freedom fighter-turned-vigilante. His stellar perfomance in a dual role in Indian won him a National award. The movie was also India’s official submission for the Academy Award for best foreign language film in 1996.

Pre-production works for Indian 2 are currently progressing. Earlier this year, the director and his team had visited Thailand for location scouting. Nayanthara is said to be the top contender for the female lead and young sensation Anirudh is likely to compose music for the movie. Cinematographer Ravi Varman and art director T Muthuraj are already confirmed in the technical crew.

Unlike Shankar’s other recent films, Indian 2 will not have much VFX or CG works, so they are planning to release the movie by mid 2019 itself. Kamal Haasan, whose long delayed Vishwaroopam 2 is hitting screens this Friday (August 10), is also hosting the second season of reality show, Bigg Boss. He is expected to start shooting for Indian 2 as soon as the reality show gets over. Shankar is also simultaneously working on the release of his magnum opus 2.0, slated to hit theatres on November 29.

Kamal Haasan’s long awaited Vishwaroopam 2 is finally releasing this Friday (August 10). It is his first release in three years and fans as well as cinephiles are eagerly looking forward to the movie. Vishwaroopam, made as a two-part series, has Kamal playing the role a RAW agent who works in disguise with the Afghan terrorists.

A making video that captures the efforts that went behind the movie was released last day in social medias. The movie promises to have much more action and thrills than the first part, which was released in 2013. Kamal Haasan has pinned high hopes on Vishwaroopam 2. According to him, V2 is not only a sequel, but also an action packed prequel. He has assured that the film will be on par with any Hollywood film.

The first part, Vishwaroopam was a huge blockbuster that went on to do a lifetime business of over 100 crores. The second part is also expected to repeat the same success. Apart from Kamal, actors like Rahul Bose, Andrea Jeremiah, Pooja Kumar, Waheeda Rahma and Shekhar Kapur will also be seen reprising their roles.

The technical team comprises of cinematographers Shamdat Sainudeen, Sanu Varghese and editor Mahesh Narayanan. Ghibran handles the music department.

Odiyan trailer to be released by Mammootty!!

The highly anticipated Odiyan is finally hitting screens this October. This Mohanlal starrrer is unarguably one of the most awaited Malayalam movies in recent years. Teasing the audience’s patience, the makers have been releasing posters and teasers in regular intervals. As per latest reports, the movie’s trailer will be released on August 15 by none other than megastar Mammootty. Reportedly, this upcoming trailer is 1.42 minutes long and it promises to be a real treat for the fans.

Odiyan, directed by VA Shrikumar Menon is based on the lives of odiyans, whose stories are popular in Kerala’s folklore. Odiyans are people who practice odividya, which is a kind of black magic used to tackle enemies. National award winner Harikrishnan has scripted the movie. This is the first time a movie is being based on odiyans, which has naturally raised the curiosity among the audience.

According to the makers, Odiyan is a mass entertainer with shades of romance, fantasy and magical realism. Mohanlal, Prakash Raj and Manju Warrier play the major roles Manoj Joshi, Narain, Innocent, Kailas, Sana Althaf, Siddique and Nandu are also part of the supporting cast. Its technical crew includes cinematographer Shaji Kumar, editor Johnkutty, action choreographer Peter Hein, art director Prashanth Madhav and composers M Jayachandran and Sam CS (background score).

Antony Perumbavoor is producing Odiyan under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas. The movie is scheduled for a grand release on October 11.

Biju Menon’s Padayottam has been in the making for sometime now. The movie is finally gearing up to hit screens for Onam. It is an interesting trailer that has gives hints of a fun filled entertainer. Biju Menon plays the role of Chenkal Raju, a pucca-gangster based in the Chenkal Choola region in Trivandrum. The actor is seen sporting a rugged mass look in the movie. With a host od supporting actors like Dileesh Pothan, Saiju Kurup, Anu Sithara, Lijo Jose Pellissery, Basil Joseph, Sudhi Koppa and Harish Kanaran, the movie promises to be a laugh riot.

Padayottam is scripted jointly by newcomers Arun AR and Ajai Rahul. According to the makers, the movie is a serious comedy on the lines of Delhi Belly and Jigarthanda.
Satheesh Kurup is the cinematographer and Prashanth Pillai is handling the music department. Sophia Paul is producing the movie under the banner of Weekend Blockbusters.

Moothon to be released in film festivals first

Moothon starring Nivin Pauly is highly anticipated by the Malayali cinephiles. The movie marks the directorial debit of actress-turned-filmmaker Geetu Mohandas in Malayalam. Shoot for the movie happened in multiple schedules in Mumbai, Kerala and Lakshadweep. It was finally wrapped up in May this year. The makers are currently busy with the post-production works after which it will be released in international film festivals.

Geetu Mohandas’ story of Moothon had won the global filmmaking award in Sundance Film Festival 2016. Moothon is the story of a man called Mullakoya from Lakshadweep. The movie is centred around his journey to find his brother. ‘Moothon’ is actually an island slang for elder brother.

Nivin Pauly’s character in the movie is said to be one of his most challenging till date. He will be seen in a new look in the movie with a closely cropped hair. In the first look poster, Nivin can be seen in a rough avatar with a shaven head and a pierced nose. The movie’s supporting cast includes Dileesh Pothan, Shashank Arora, Roshan Mathew, Sujith Shankar, Sanjana, Harish Khanna, Mellisa, Shobhita and Mini.

Moothon has some of the country’s leading technicians associated with it. Geetu Mohandas’ husband and renowned cinematographer-turned-filmmaker Rajeev Ravi is wielding the camera. Bollywood filmmaker Anurag Kashyap is collaborating with Geetu Mohandas in writing the Hindi dialogues. National award winner Ajithkumar is editing the movie and Thaikkudam Bridge fame Govind Menon is handling the music department.

Moothon is funded jointly by Bollywood filmmaker Anand L Rai’s production house Colour Yellow Productions and Jar Pictures. Eros International will be presenting the movie.

The first look poster of ‘Ottamuri Velicham’ fame Rahul Riji Nair’s next was unveiled today in social medias. The movie has a very promising line up of actors and technicians. The two adorable mothers from Sudani From Nigeria – Sarasa Balussery and Savithri Sreedharan are playing major roles in the movie. Indrans, Pauly Valsan, Alencier Ley Lopez, Sethulakshmi, Saiju Kurup, Aju Varghese and Chemban Vinod Jose are also part of the cast.

All the lead actors feature in the first look poster which gives vibes of a quirky fun movie. With his second film itself, director Rahul Riji Nair is trying to prove his versatility. His debut film Ottamuri Velicham was a completely contrasting one that dealt with the issue of marital rape. The movie has won numerous accolades at the regional and international level.

Urvasi Theatres, the banner which produced the National award winning Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum, is joining funding Dakini with B Rakesh’s Universal Cinema. The movie’s technical crew includes cinematographer Alex J Pulickal, editor Appu N Bhattadhiri and music director Rahul Raj. Vijay Babu’s Friday Film House will be distributing the movie.

Tovino’s next will be a travel movie directed by Jeo Baby. The director has previously made critically acclaimed films like 2 Penkuttikal and Kunju Daivam. It is worth a mention that Tovino had played a guest role in 2 Penkuttikal. Shoot for his upcoming movie with Jeo Baby has already begun. The team had recently shot for a brief portion in Diu and Daman.

Pranav Mohanlal is currently shooting for his upcoming movie, Irupathiyonnaam Noottaandu. The movie is being written and directed by Arun Gopy of ‘Ramaleela’ fame. Tomichan Mulakupadam is producing the movie under his banner Mulakupadam Films. Ever since its announcement, the makers have been tight-lipped about the genre or details regarding Pranav’s character.

But a little birdie infoms us that Pranav is playing the role of a surfer in the movie. The design in the title poster also hints the same. Since Pranav is used to doing gymnastics, skydiving and rock climbing, he has a fluid and flexible body language. His agility and flexibility were on show with the Parkour stunts he performed in Aadhi.

The makers of Irupathiyonnaam Noottaandu have got India’s leading action choreographer, Peter Hein on board. So, we can expect to see some never-before-seen kind of gripping surfing sequences. The surfing portions have been planned to be shot in Goa. Abinandan Ramanjunam, well known for his excellent work in Amen and Mosayile Kuthira Meenukal, is cranking the camera.

Irupathiyonnaam Noottaandu is said to be a travel based romantic flick. A newcomer has been signed to play Pranav’s romantic interest. Kalabhavan Shajon, Manoj K Jayan, Shaju Sreedhar, Abhishek and Krishna Prasad will be seen in supporting roles. In the technical front, Gopi Sunder will be handling the music department. Editor Vivek Harshan, sound designer Renganaath Ravee and art director Joseph Nellickal are also part of the team.

Mammootty’s comeback film in Tamil, Peranbu is gearing up to hit screens. The movie, which was selected for a couple of international film festivals, is directed by Ram. The makers have released the lyric video of the song ‘Anbe Anbe’. Yuvan Shankar Raja has composed and rendered this song jointly with Karthik. Sumathi Ram has penned its soulful lyrics.

From the promos, Peranbu looks like a heart-wrenching film. The movie reportedly tells an emotional tale of a doting father and his autistic child. Mammootty and National award winner Sadhana essay these roles respectively.
Peranbu won international acclaim after it was screened at the International Film Festival of Rotterdam (IFFR) and the Shanghai International Film Festival. It secured 20th position amongst the 187 films considered for the audience award category in IFFR.

Peranbu also stars Sadhana, Anjali, Samuthirakani, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Anjali Ameer and Siddique. Yuvan Shankar Raja’s album comprising of four beautiful songs have already emerged successful. The movie’s release date is expected to be announced shortly.
