Seemaraja has Samantha paired with Sivakarthikeyan for the first time. ‘Remo’ actress Keerthy Suresh is also there in a cameo role in Seemaraja. Unni Mukundan sings for Mammootty’s Oru Kuttanadan Blog

Writer Sethu’s directorial debut Oru Kuttanadan Blog starring megastar Mammootty in the lead is gearing up for a grand Onam release next month. A few location stills of the movie have been released in social medias. From the stills and promos, the movie looks like a rural based fun entertainer that families seek during the festive season.

An interesting aspect of this film is that actor Unni Mukundan will be crooning a song in it. He had also assisted Sethu for a few days. Unni shares a brotherly relationship with Sethu ever since the Mallu Singh days. The actor got his big break with Mallu Singh, which was co-written by Sethu. He was also part of Sethu’s last scripted Achayans, directed by Kannan Thamarakkulam.

Informing his followers about lending his voice for a track in Oru Kuttanadan Blog, Unni wrote on his Facebook page,

Really glad and humbled to take on a very interesting role behind the camera in the much awaited project ‘Oru Kuttanadan Blog’, as a playback singer. It was really disappointing for me when I missed out on the incredible opportunity to associate my dear brother Sethu in this project because of my unavoidable work commitments ; but this one chance instantly made up for all the disappointments. I was fortunate enough to render my voice for this all full of life song from the movie , which is a totally different genre from what I have tried so far in my musical experiments. Immensely grateful that I could be a part of this project in the best possible way. All my love, wishes and prayers to both my favorite people , Mammokka and Sethu chettan on this project we are all keenly looking forward to. Can’t wait to see my name in that list of play back singers! It was indeed humbling to be sharing the space with such ace singers. I do hope that you all will love the track and I would like to take a moment to thank the entire team of ‘Oru Kuttanadan blog’, who made this possible for me.

Sethu himself has scripted Oru Kuttanadan Blog, the core plot of which is set in a village named Krishnapuram. Mammootty plays the role of Hari, a big-brother like figure, fondly called as Hari ettan in the locality. New-gen actors like Jacob Gregory, Shaheen Siddique, Vivek Gopan, Sanju Sivaram and Jude Anthany Joseph play his close acquaintances.

The story is narrated interestingly through various episodes of a blog. Young star Sunny Wayne is reportedly playing the role of a blogger in the movie. His portions were recently shot in Dubai. Anu Sithara, Raai Laxmi and Shamna Kasim play the three female leads. Nedumudi Venu, Siddique, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Vineeth Kumar, Lalu Alex, Thesni Khan, Nandan Unni and Sohan Seenulal are also part of the supporting cast.

The technical crew includes debutant composer Sreenath Sivasankaran, Bijibal (background score), cinematographer Pradeep Nair and editor Shameer Muhammed. The movie is being produced by Murali Dharan and Santha Murali under the banner of Anantha Vision. Reports suggest that the movie will hit screens on August 24, though an official confirmation is still awaited.

Rosshan Andrrews’ faith in me was a confidence booster to take up Kayamkulam Kochunni: Nivin Pauly

Nivin Pauly is awaiting the biggest release of his career. His highly anticipated film Kayamkulam Kochunni is gearing up to hit screens later this month. This Rosshan Andrrews directorial is an epic period film set in the 18th century. While Nivin plays Kochunni’s role, the movie has another star presence in Mohanlal, who plays an extended cameo role. A whopping budget of Rs 45 crores has been invested for its making, which makes it one of the expensive Malayalam movies ever.

Nivin Pauly, who started off his career doing guy-next-door roles has been doing a variety of films of late. Kayamkulam Kochunni is one such film where he is trying something that he has never done before. In a recent interview, the actor himself admitted that he has initially apprehensive about doing such a big film. But it was the confidence instilled by director Rosshan Andrrews that inspired Nivin to take up the movie.

In an earlier interview, writer Sanjay had opened up on the thought process that went behind roping in Nivin Pauly for playing Kochunni’s character. He is quoted saying, “Nivin Pauly has the body language that suits well for any character. Besides that his physique is very close that of Kochunni’s, which is described in the Aithihyamala, written by Kottarathil Sankunni.”

Prior to shoot, Nivin undertook basic training in kalaripayattu, horse riding and worked on developing his flexibility. The kind of efforts he has put in for the movie is evident from the visuals in the trailer. He appears in multiple looks in the trailer and is also seen performing kalari and swift horse riding.

The 12 days I spent shooting with Mohanlal is the best moment of my career: Nivin Pauly

In Malayalam cinema, it is not often that we get to two big stars sharing screen space. Most senior actors are apprehensive when it comes to doing multi-starrers but Mohanlal is different. The actor will be next seen in an extended cameo role in Kayamkulam Kochunni, which has Nivin Pauly in the titular role. Mohanlal plays the role of Ithikkara Pakki in the movie directed by Rosshan Andrrews.

Kayamkulam Kochunni is a period flick based on the life of Kochunni, a legendary highwayman who was active in Travancore region during the 18th century. A whopping budget of Rs 45 crores for its making, which makes it one of the expensive Malayalam movies ever. Such a big budget movie demanded a crowd puller like Mohanlal. His presence is unarguably one of the major selling points of Kayamkulam Kochunni.

Mohanlal came into the movie well after shoot commenced. He shot for around 12 days for the movie and Nivin Pauly says those were the best moments of his acting career. Though they both have met previously in many occasions, this was the first time they were working together in a movie. Nivin is awed by the determination and professionalism shown by Mohanlal.

Ithikkara Pakki is considered as a predecessor to Kochunni. Myth has it that Pakki was the first legendary Robin Hood of Kerala; he and Kochunni were contemporaries. It was Pakki who started the unique style of robbing, which was later continued by Kochunni. According to the makers, Mohanlal was chosen to play Ithikkara Pakki as the character demanded an extraordinary actor like him.

Mohanlal has performed some highly risky stunts in the movie very effortlessly. Expectations for Kayamkulam Kochunni skyrocketed when location stills of Mohanlal in the Pakki look went viral in social medias. According to the makers, the combination scenes between Mohanlal and Nivin Pauly will be the movie’s biggest highlight.

The movie is directed by Ponram, marking his third time collaboration with Sivakarthikeyan after the blockbusters, Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam and Rajini Murugan.

Seemaraja has Samantha paired with Sivakarthikeyan for the first time. Unlike other regular Tamil commercial flicks, Samantha, as the female lead, has a solid role; she even underwent training in Tamil Nadu’s traditional martial arts form Silambam for the movie. ‘Remo’ actress Keerthy Suresh is also there in a cameo role in Seemaraja. Simran, one of the leading heroines of her time, is playing a negative role in Seemaraja. It is said to be one of the most powerful roles the actress has played in her career so far.

Seemaraj’s supporting cast includes Malayali actor Lal, Soori, Napoleon, KS Ravikumar, Motta Rajendran, Sathish, Yogi Babu and Manobala among others. D Imman is handling the music department in Seemaraja. The composer is looking for a hattrick hit as his previous collaborations with Sivakarthikeyan and Ponram for Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam and Rajini Murugan were hugely successful. Varan Varan Seemaraja, the first single from the movie has already emerged as a hit among the music lovers.

Balasubramaniem cranks the camera and National award winner Vivek Harshan is editing the movie.

Check out this cool new poster of Fahadh Faasil’s Varathan

As we already know, Fahadh Faasil’s next release is Varathan, directed by Amal Neerad. The movie is gearing up to hit screens later this month as an Onam release. A new poster was unveiled today by the director through his official social media handle. Fahadh and Aishwarya Lekshmi feature in the poster which looks like a portion from a song sequence. The former sports a different look as opposed to the bearded avatar in the first look poster and the teaser.

Earlier, an intriguing teaser was released by the makers. Amal Neerad in every sense, the 36 second teaser had Fahadh Faasil banging someone with a bottle, all in slow motion. From the teaser and the newly released poster, we presume that Varathan has two separate tracks; a romantic part parallel to an action-packed thrilling one.

Nothing much is known about the movie or its genre as the makers had kept utmost secrecy throughout the shoot time. The movie went on floors in March and the team went about silently with the shoot before wrapping it up in June. It was shot extensively in Vagamon and nearby areas, apart from a brief schedule in Dubai.

Sharafudheen, ‘Parava’ fame Arjun Ashokan, Vijilesh, Dileesh Pothan and ‘Guppy’ fame Master Chethan Lal are part of the supporting cast. DOP Littil Swayamp, composer Sushin Shyam and editor Vivek Harshan form the technical crew. Fahadh Faasil’s wife and actress, Nazriya Nazim is debuting as a producer with Varathan. She is jointly funding it with Amal Neerad Productions.

Kayamkulam Kochunni does massive pre-release business!

The highly anticipated Nivin Pauly starrer Kayamkulam Kochunni is gearing up for release. This Rosshan Andrrews directorial is an epic period film set in the 18th century. While Nivin plays Kochunni’s role, the movie has a superstar presence in Mohanlal who plays an extended cameo role. Gokulam Gopalan has invested around Rs 45 crores on the movie, which is said to be one of the highest for a Malayalam movie.

However, the makers have already started to make profits, thanks to the pre-release bussiness rights. Production giant Eros International have bagged the global digital rights for the Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu versions for a whopping Rs 25 crores. They have also acquired the music and all India theatrical rights. According to the contract signed, Eros will be sharing the profit with the producer after release.

Earlier, Phars Films had bagged the overseas rights of Kayamkulam Kochunni for a record amount of Rs 4 crores. Similar to the contract with Eros, the producer will be getting a share from the profit earned through overseas release. Apart from this, the movie’s Hindi dubbing rights have been sold for around Rs 4 crores. The makers are eyeing Rs 10 crores from satellite rights alone. This is perhaps the first time in Malayalam cinema that a movie has done pre-release business which is almost equal to its production cost.

The involvement of big names like Mohanlal, Nivin Pauly, award winning writers Bobby-Sanjay cinematographers Binod Pradhan (Rang De Basanti, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag) and Nirav Shah (2.0, Dhoom), multiple National award winning editor Sreekar Prasad and sound designer PM Satheesh (Baahubali series) have clearly attracted corporates like Eros to invest big on Kayamkulam Kochunni.

Karwaan Review: Dulquer Salmaan makes his Bollywood entry in style

Karwaan Review: Dulquer Salmaan makes his Bollywood entry in style

Dulquer Salmaan’s much-awaited maiden Hindi flick, Karwaan, has hit screens all across India today. Noted actor/theatre personality Akarsh Khurana is making his directorial debut with this movie, which also stars the ace Irrfan Khan and internet sensation Mithila Palkar. Let’s jump straight to the review.

The narrative is told from the point of view of Avinash (Dulquer), who leads an unhappy IT life in Bangalore. The plot kicks off when father dies in a road accident during a spiritual journey to Gangotri. The travel agency mixes up while sending his coffin via air. Avinash’s father’s coffin is mistakenly sent to Kochi while an old lady’s body reaches him in Bangalore. Avinash along with his friend Shaukat (Irrfan Khan) take off to Kochi to exchange the body. On the way, Tanya (Mithila Palkar), the old lady’s grand-daughter joins them. The story evolves during this eventful journey from Bangalore to Kochi via Ootty.

Karwaan Movie Stills

Director Akarsh Khurana and Hussain Dalal (dialogues) have scripted the movie based on Bejoy Nambiar’s story. Karwaan is basically a feel-good film that relies heavily on the performances by its lead actors. The subject as such does not have anything out-of-the-world to boast of, instead it is the chemistry between the three lead characters that makes it interesting. The characters played by Irrfan Khan, Mithila Palkar and Dulquer are from different walks of life who come together at one juncture of their lives. It is a slice-of-life kind movie with prominence to realistic humour.

Karwaan Movie Poster

Karwaan has some typical moments that one would expect to see in such a film and that kind of plays spoilsport. After a point, we kind of start guessing how this is going to end and it follows exactly the same route. Thankfully, the performances of its three lead actors lift the movie from its mundaneness.

Karwaan Movie Stills

Dulquer Salmaan has made his B-Town debut a memorable one. Although his character is not challenging or anything like what he has been doing of late in his home turf, it is quite amazing to see the effortlessness with which he performs. He is probably the only male actor that Malayalam cinema has ever produced with a pan-Indian appeal.

Karwaan Movie Stills

Mithila Palkar brings in her trademark bubbliness and portrays the role of an outgoing young girl to perfection. Shaukat is no challenge for an actor of Irrfan Khan’s calibre. The actor delivers a lot of quirky one-liners which keeps the fun bone tickling. The ever-graceful Amala Akkineni is also there in an extended cameo role. Technically, Karwaan is rich with delightful music and breezy visuals that capture the scenic beauty of Kerala in all its glory.

Overall, Karwaan is an enjoyable ride even though it traverses the already familiar route. A simple timepass flick that reaches its destination safely despite a few bumps.
