Vijay Sethupathi’s next with ‘Sethupathi’ fame Arun Kumar all sey to go on floors

Vijay Sethupathi is currently busy shooting for Mani Ratnam’s Chekka Chivantha Vaanam. The movie is currently in the final stages of shoot, upon the completion of which the actor will join the sets of his next with director Arun Kumar. The actor-director duo have previously worked together in Pannaiyarum Padminiyum and Setupathi.

Shoot for their upcoming movie is also set to kick-start on May 25. Reportedly, director Arun Kumar has spent around two years to script this movie which is an action thriller. The first schedule of shoot has been planned in Tenkasi after which the team will be heading to Malaysia, where major portions will be shot.

Anjali has been signed to pair opposite Vijay Sethupathi. This will be her second outing with him after sharing screen space in the Karthik Subbaraj directorial Iraivi. Yuvan Shankar Raja is scoring music as well as producing this movie, which is yet to be titled. He is funding the movie jointly with SN Rajarajan’s K Productions.

Vijay Sethupathi meanwhile has a handful of projects in his kitty. Junga, Seethkathi, 96, Super Deluxe and Maamanidhan are some of his upcoming movies. He is also part of two superstar films – one with Rajinikanth to be directed by Karthik Subbaraj and another with Chiranjeevi titled Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy.

As we had already reported, Mohanlal’s Neerali is slated to hit screens next month as an Eid release. The makers have released a new poster from the movie through their official social media handle. Mohanlal, Nadiya Moidu, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Parvathy Nair feature in this poster.

Neerali directed by Ajoy Varma is touted to be an action packed adventure thriller. The movie has Mohanlal playing the role of Sunny George, a gemologist by profession. Nadhiya Moidu, who is making her comeback to Malayalam, is playing his wife in the movie. The supporting cast also includes Dileesh Pothan, Sai Kumar, Megha Mathew and Nasser.

Neerali’s technical crew includes noted Bollywood cinematographer Santhosh Thundiyil and composer Stephen Devassy. Director Ajoy Varma himself is handling the edits. The movie has been in the post-production phase for over two months now. Since it is an adventure thriller, the movie demands a lot of VFX works and the makers have signed one of India’s leading VFX companies to handle the same.

There is a buzz going around in social medias about the makers planning to release the movie’s trailer on Mohanlal’s birthday, which falls on 21 May. If turns out to be true, the trailer will be a special birthday treat for the star’s fans all acorss the globe. Santhosh T Kuruvilla’s Moonshot Entertainment is co-producing the movie with John Thomas and Mibu Jose Nettikdan.

Senior Malayalam film actor Kalasala Babu passed away late on Sunday night at Ernakulam Medical Trust Hospital. The actor aged 68 was under treatment for heart ailment for the past three months. He is survived by his wife Lalitha, and children Sreeedevi and Vishwanathan.

Kalasala Babu was the son of famous Kathakali dancer Kalamandalam Krishnan Nair and Mohiniyattam dancer Kalyanikkutty Amma. He was active in theatre, cinema and serial industry. Some of his notable roles came in movies like Runway, Thommanum Makkalum, Lion, Ben Johnson, Thuruppu Gulan etc.

Mohanlal lands in UK for the shoot of his next with Ranjith

We had recently reported about Mohanlal heading to UK for the shoot of his upcoming movie with director Ranjith. The actor has joined the sets and informed it to his followers through his social media handle. He posted a photo with the crew members and along with it wrote,

Friends, I have joined the sets of my upcoming movie in the United Kingdom. The movie, which is yet to be titled, is directed by Ranjith and produced by Maha Subair under the banner of Varnachithra Good line productions.

Earlier, Ranjith’s plan was to direct a romantic flick titled Bilathikadha. Maniyanpilla Raju’s son Niranj and Anu Sithara were supposed to play lead roles in the movie with an extended cameo by Mohanlal. But due to some unknown reasons, the project got dropped and Ranjith worked on a new script. Reportedly, Mohanlal has allotted 30 days from his busy schedule for this new project.

Arundhathi Nag, Siddique, Subi Suresh, Shalin Zoya, Tini Tom, Baiju and Mythili are part of this movie’s supporting cast. Veteran Azhagappan has been signed as the cinematographer. Maha Subair is producing it under the banner of Varnachithra Good line productions. Mohanlal and Ranjith team have an enviable track record with several hits to their credit. Fans and common audience are eagerly looking forward to a quality film from the duo this time as well.

Megastar Mammootty’s highly anticipated action-thriller Abrahaminte Santhathikal is getting ready for release next month. As informed earlier, the makers have released the first song from the movie. Gopi Sunder has composed this song titled ‘Yarusalem Naayaka’. Rafeeq Ahammed has penned the lyrics and the highly talented Sreya Jayadeep has lent her voice for this soulful track.

The video shows school kids rendering this devotional song in their assembly. Mammootty, who plays a police officer, also features in the video, he is presumably in the school for an investigation. Abrahaminte Santhathikal marks the directorial debut of Shaji Padoor, a veteran who has been in the industry as an associate director for over two decades. Haneef Adeni of ‘The Great Father’ fame has scripted this movie, touted to be a cop-action thriller.

Abrahaminte Santhathikal promsies to be a stylish flick, on the lines of ‘The Great Father’. Anson Paul, noted for his roles in Solo, Aadu 2 and Oozham, is playing a crucial role as Mammootty’s brother in the movie. Kaniha, Siddique, Kalabhavan Shajon and newbie Maria John are also part of the supporting cast.

Its technical crew comprises of cinematographer Alby Antony and editor Mahesh Narayanan, who turned a director last year with the widely acclaimed ‘Take Off’. Joby George is producing the movie under the banner of Goodwill Entertainment.

As we all know, Dulquer Salmaan is making his Bollywood entry this year with ‘Karwaan’, in which he co-stars with Irrfan Khan and Mithila Palkar. Noted actor/theatre personality Akarsh Khurana is directing this movie. Dulquer through his social media handle has informed that the movie will hit screens on August 10.

Karwaan is touted to be a light hearted entertainer which traces the story of three friends who come from different walks of life. It is a slice of life kind movie with prominence to realistic humour. Director Akarsh Khurana, who has previously scripted movies like Humshakals and Krrish 3, has co-written the script of Karwaan with Hussain Dalal, the dialogue writer of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and 2 States.

Reportedly, Dulquer plays a Bangalore based guy in the movie. His character is a sweet yet serious kind of person. Interestingly, there is no separate love track for his character in the movie. The characters of Irrfan Khan, Mithila Palkar and Dulquer are from different walks of life who come together at one juncture of their lives.

Ronnie Screwvala is funding Karwaan under the banner of RSVP Films in association with Ishka Films. Meanwhile, Dulquer has also signed for his second Hindi film, which is the movie adaptation of Anuja Chauhan’s 2008 novel The Zoya Factor. Sonam Kapoor and Dulquer will be playing the lead roles in the movie directed by Abhishek Sharma.

Punjabi actress Wamiqa Gabbi made an impressive Malayalam debut last year with Basil Joseph’s Godha. The pretty actress won a lot of appreciation for her power-packed performance as a wrestler in the movie. Few days back, Wamiqa had hinted about signing a new Malayalam movie through her social media handle. If reports are to be believed, Wamiqa will be seen as the female lead in Prithviraj’s science-fiction thriller Nine aka 9. An official confirmation regarding the same is still awaited.

Nine is being directed by Jenuse Mohammed of ‘100 Days of Love’ fame. It is most probably the first of its kind sci-fi flick in Malayalam cinema. Prithviraj is said to be playing a scientist in this movie, the story of which happens over nine days. Shoot for the movie commenced last month in Kerala before shifting to the Himalayas.

Nine has a formidable technical team. Abhinandan Ramanujam, well known for his works in movies like ‘Amen’ and ‘Mosayile Kuthirameenukal’ is cranking the camera and edits are handled by Shameer Muhammed. Shaan Rahman is composing the songs in Nine while ‘Da Thadiya’ fame Sekhar Menon composes the original music score.

Actor Prithviraj’s newly launched production house Prithviraj Productions is producing this ambitious project jointly with Sony Pictures International Productions.

After a four-year long gap, director Anjali Menon is staging a comeback with a multi-starrer. Her new movie has a star-studded cast lead by Prithviraj Sukumaran, Parvathy and Nazriya. Shoot for the movie is almost over and the latest we hear that is it is gearing up to hit screens in July. The movie’s title and first look poster is expected to be unveiled in the coming days.

Anjali Menon’s comeback movie is reportedly a feel good family entertainer that delves on relationships and their values. Unconfirmed reports suggest that it is the remake of a Marathi film titled ‘Happy Journey’, which had Atul Kulkarni and Priya Bapat in the lead roles. It is a brother-sister story and since it is already known that Prithviraj and Nazriya play sibilings in Anjali Menon’s movie, chances are high for it to be the remake of Happy Journey.

Anjali Menon’s movie also stars director Ranjith, Atul Kulkarni, Roshan Mathew, Sidharth Menon and Maala Parvathy as part of the supporting cast. Songs in the movie are composed by M Jayachandran and Rahul Dixit. Littil Swayamp, noted for his work in Parava, is cranking the camera. M Renjith’s Rejaputhra Visual Media is producing this movie in association with Little Films India.

Official: Fahadh Faasil, Dileesh Pothan and Syam Pushkaran reunite for Kumbalangi Nights

It has been a long while since reports about a movie titled ‘Kumbalangi Nights’ have been doing the rounds in social medias. Finally, the movie’s official announcement has been made today. Madhu C Narayanan, a former associate of Dileesh and Aashiq Abu, is making his directorial debut with this movie which stars Fahadh Faasil, Shane Nigam, Soubin Shahir, Sreenath Bhasi and Mathew Thomas in the lead roles.

Kumbalangi Nights, scripted by National award winner Syam Pushkaran, is reportedly about the lives of a bunch of youngsters from Kumbalangi, a suburb of the city of Kochi. Talks within the industry suggest that, Fahadh Faasil is playing a negative role in the movie but it is yet to be confirmed by the makers. Recently, a casting call for the female lead’s part was posted in social medias.

The technical crew of Kumbalangi Nights include cinematographer Shyju Khalid, composer Sushin Shyam and editor Saiju Sreedharan of ‘Mayaanadhi’ fame. Director Dileesh Pothan and writer Syam Pushkaran have launched a new production house named Working Class Hero and Kumbalangi Nights is their maiden venture. They are funding the movie jointly with Fahadh Faasil’s banner Fahadh Faasil and Friends.

It’s a wrap for Nivin Pauly’s Moothon!

Recently, we had reported about Nivin Pauly shooting in Lakshadweep for the final schedule of Moothon. As per latest reports, the team has wrapped up the entire shoot. The movie directed by actress-turned-filmmaker Geetu Mohandas went on floors in May last year. Shoot for the movie happened in multiple schedules in Mumbai, Kerala and finally in Lakshadweep.

Moothon is the story of a man called Mullakoya from Lakshadweep. The movie is centred around his journey to find his brother. ‘Moothon’ is actually an island slang for elder brother. Geetu Mohandas’ story of Moothon won the global filmmaking award in Sundance Film Festival 2016.

Nivin Pauly’s character in the movie is said to be one of his most challenging till date. He is sporting a different look for the movie with a closely cropped hair. In the first look poster, Nivin can be seen in a rough avatar with a shaven head and a pierced nose. Dileesh Pothan, Roshan Mathew and the two boys from Parava – Govind V Pai and Amal Shah are also said to be part of the cast.

Moothon has some of the country’s leading technicians associated with it. Geetu Mohandas’ husband and renowned cinematographer-turned-filmmaker Rajeev Ravi is cranking the camera. Bollywood filmmaker Anurag Kashyap is making his entry to Mollywood by collaborating with Geetu Mohandas in writing the Hindi dialogues. Thaikkudam Bridge fame Govind Menon is handling the music department.

Moothon is funded jointly by Bollywood filmmaker Anand L Rai’s production house Colour Yellow Productions and Jar Pictures. Eros International will be presenting the movie.
