Vikadakumaran Review: An entertainer with equal dose of humour and thrill

After the hugely successful ‘Kattappanayile Rithwik Roshan’, Vishnu Unnikrishnan and Dharmajan Bolgatty are back with a comedy-thriller. Their latest outing ‘Vikadakumaran’ is directed by Boban Samuel, who has made movies like ‘Janapriyan’ and ‘Romans’. Let’s jump straight to the review.

Vikadakumaran has Vishnu Unnikrishnan playing Binu, an advocate while Dharmajan plays his friend Mani, who works a clerk in the district court. While Binu is content with taking up petty cases, his life takes a topsy-turvy once he lands on a murder case. Sukumaran, a home guard is killed under mysterious circumstances and the case eventually reaches Binu. From the point, the movie follows how Binu tries to solve the case and emerge victorious.

Vishnu Unnikrishnan has given a slightly more matured performance this time and the confidence that he earned with ‘Kattappanayile Rithwik Roshan’ is very evident on screen. Dharmajan as his sidekick and ‘Kattu’ fame Manasa Radhakrishnan have done their roles well. Jinu Joseph is another notable performer in the movie.

YV Rajesh has scripted Vikadakumaran as a neat comedy thriller with ample space for humour and thrilling elements. Indrans, who got the 2017 Kerala State Award for best actor, has played a noteworthy role as home gaurd Sukumaran. Technically, Vikadakumaran is a good movie with fine visuals by Ajay David and pleasant music by Rahul Raj.

Overall, Vikadakumaran is definitely worth a watch for its humour and thrills. Families will have a good time watching this movie from theatres during this Easter holidays.

Karthick Naren comes out strongly against Gautham Menon!

Karthick Naren comes out strongly against Gautham Menon!

War of words burst out in social media last day as young filmmaker Karthick Naren came out strongly against Gautham Vasudev Menon aka GVM. The latter is producing Karthick’s upcoming movie ‘Naragasooran’, shoot for which was wrapped up a couple of months back. While many were wondering about the delay in release, it is now clear that all is not well in the camp.

23-year-old filmmaker Karthick Naren made a highly impressive debut in 2016 with ‘Dhuruvangal 16’. The whodunit thriller starring Rahman and a bunch of newcomers emerged as a big sucesss with critics lavishing praise on the director’s work. Impressed by Karthick’s work, director Gautham Menon himself came forward to produce his next film, Naragasooran. It is a multi-starrer with Arvind Swamy, Indrajith Sukumaran, Sundeep, Shriya and Aathmika in the lead roles.

Karthick has now accused GVM of not funding the movie and for treating his team as ‘trash’. Things started when Karthick first tweeted,

Sometimes a misplaced trust may kill you. People should think twice before taking it for a ride. The last thing you want to see is your passion getting butchered from all the directions for a mistake you did not commit. Threshold!

Later while sharing a promotional video, Gautham Menon indirectly referred to Karthick and wrote,

While some young filmmakers whine about their passion getting butchered instead of growing a pair, here’s a young team that makes an interesting short about girls, women, cricket, CSK and liberation.

Not caring to mince words, Karthick replied back to Gautham Menon:

While everybody advised against it I had the pair to trust you & collaborate sir. In return we were treated like trash & made to invest on our own. I think its better to whine & confront instead of running away. Please don’t do this to any other young filmmaker sir. It hurts!

For the last few years, Gautham Menon has been accused by many for not being able to complete his projects in time. The director’s two films – Enai Nokki Paayum Thotta with Dhanush and Dhruva Natchathiram with Vikram have been in the making for a long time. It remains to be seen how things will turn out for Naragasooran.

Dileep’s next likely to be with Vysakh!

Dileep’s next likely to be with Vysakh!

Dileep is currently awaiting the release of Kammara Sambhavam, which is unarguably one of the biggest films in his near three decade long career. Rathish Ambat is directing this movie which is set for a grand Vishu release. Post Kammara Sambhavam, Dileep is expected to resume works for his 3D film Professor Dinkan.

As per latest reports, Dileep is planning to team up with Vysakh next. Ever since he delivered the all-time blockbuster Pulimurugan, there have been several speculations about Vyskah’s upcoming movies. On New Year’s day last year, Vysakh had announced a string of projects and one of them was with Dileep. However, there was no follow-up to the news and it was reported that the project got shelved.

But now, it seems like Vyaskh and Dileep are coming together to take the project forward. Reportedly, Dileep recently had discussions with Rafi Mathira, the producer of the movie and they are now working on his dates. If reports are to be believed, veteran Benny P Nayarambalam is being considered for scripting the movie.

Dileep and Vyaskh have previously worked together in 2012 for ‘Sound Thoma’. Incidentally, Benny P Nayarambalam had scripted that movie as well. Though Sound Thoma was panned heavily by the critics, it managed to fare well at the box office. Apart from Vysakh, Dileep is also in talks with directors Ajai Vasudev and Nadirshah. An official word is yet to be made regarding the actor’s upcoming projects.
