Oru Yamandan Premakadha Review: Dulquer’s comeback film offers good fun
After a gap of over a year, Dulquer Salmaan is back to Malayalam with ‘Oru Yamandan Premakadha’. The film is directed by BC Naufal and scripted by Bibin George-Vishnu Unnikrishnan duo. The makers had promised it to be fun filled entertainer on the lines of the writer duo’s previous films, ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’ and ‘Kattappanayile Rithwik Roshan’. Let’s see how it has turned out to be.
Dulquer Salmaan, who is often associated with urban, sophisticated roles, goes full on local this time. His character Lallu is a fun loving do-gooder in his locality. Though he belongs to a wealthy family, he leads life on his own terms by doing painting works. He is always accompanied by his ‘chaaver’ gang – Vicky (Soubin Shahir), Teny (Vishnu Unnikrishnan) and Paanchikuttan (Salim Kumar). The movie’s first hour or so is used for establishing the characters.
Similar to ‘AAA’ and ‘Kattappana’, here also the writers rely mainly on humour. Since the storyline is wafer thin plot that keeps the audience entertained. The skit like humour pattern that clicked in the earlier two films is followed here as well. There is ample dose of humour in the film that is certain to work among the families.
As Lallu, Dulquer is at his charming best and it seems like he had good fun during the making. He is aided by a host of comedy actors like Salim Kumar, Hareesh Kanaran, Dharmajan, Soubin Shahir, Vishnu Unnikrishnan, Baiju Santhosh, Kottayam Pradeep, Ashokan and Sunil Sukhada. After ‘Action Hero Biju’, Suraj Venjaramoodu once again impresses with a two-scene cameo. The movie also has two female leads in Samyuktha Menon and Nikhila Vimal.
Nadirshah’s songs didn’t work well individually but they suit the flow of the narrative. A romantic track featuring Dulquer and Nikhila Vimal sounded lovely and was also well shot.
Overall, as promised, ‘Oru Yamandan Premakadha’ is a treat for fun film lovers. Those who wish to have good laughs without being too bothered about the freshness in story or its logic, then grab your tickets for the next possible show.
