‘United Kingdom of Kerala’: A Mirror to Kerala’s Youth and Their Dreams Abroad

The upcoming film United Kingdom of Kerala, directed by Arun Vaiga, is creating quite a buzz ahead of its release on June 20, 2025. With an ensemble cast led by Ranjith Sajeev, the film promises a potent mix of emotion, entertainment, and social relevance. Set against the vibrant backdrop of campus life in Kerala, it weaves together themes of family, love, action, and the dilemmas faced by today’s youth. The trailer and previously released songs have already hinted at a narrative that blends heart and energy.

At its core, United Kingdom of Kerala tells the story of Kerala’s migration culture—the desire of many young people to move abroad in search of better opportunities, and the impact this has on their families, especially aging parents and the values they leave behind. The father-son dynamic plays a major emotional anchor in the story, with veterans like Johny Antony, Indrans, and Manoj K Jayan lending depth to these familial layers.

Produced by Anne and Sajeev Alexander Mathew, the film’s technical team includes Rajesh Murugesan on music, with lyrics by Sabareesh Varma, cinematography by Sinoj P Ayyappan, and editing by the director himself. With Alphonse Puthren also playing a key role and Arun Vaiga at the helm, United Kingdom of Kerala aims to entertain while urging audiences to reflect on a very real and present issue in Kerala society.
