Here’s the star-studded crew of Vijay 62!

After shattering almost all pre-exisiting records in Kollywood with Mersal, Vijay is gearing up to start his next with hit maker AR Murugadoss. Vijay 62 is easily one of the most hyped films of this year. The actor shares a great record with Murugadoss as both their previous films – Thuppakki and Kaththi – were big blockbusters and are placed in the elite 100 crore club.

Sun Pictures is making a comeback to production by backing this big budget film. Their last venture was the blockbuster Rajinikanth starrer Enthiran, released back in 2010. Last day, they had announced the whole crew of the upcoming Vijay starrer through their official Twitter handle. It is a star-studded team with several big names in it.

Malayali cinematographer Girish Gangadharan, noted for his stellar works in films like Guppy and Angamaly Diaries, is making his Tamil debut with Vijay 62. Multiple National award winner Sreekar Prasad is the editor and art director T Santhanam have also been confirmed. Maestro AR Rahman will be scoring music for the movie. It is his second successive film with Vijay after Mersal and it also marks his reunion with Murugadoss after a gap of 10 long years. They last worked together in the Hindi remake of Ghajini.

In the cast, only Keerthy Suresh and comedian Yogi Babu have been confirmed as of now. It is Keerthy’s second outing with Vijay after last year’s Bairavaa. Though the movie didn’t work as expected, their on-screen chemistry was noted. It will be interesting to see how the pair come together in a Murugadoss film.

As per reports in Kollywood medias, the makers are planning to start shooting after Pongal. Meanwhile, Vijay has boarded flight to China for a short personal trip.

Aima Rose Sebastian, well known for her performance in films like Jacobinte Swargarajyam and Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol, got married today. The pretty actress tied the knot with Kevin Paul, who is the son of producer Sophia Paul. Their wedding was held today (January 4) in Kollam. Celebrities like Stephen Devassy, Meena, Neha Saxena, Midhun and many others were present at the wedding ceremony.

Though Aima has acted only in two films, she is quite popular among the Malayali audience. Jacobinte Swargarajyam was her debut film, in which she played Nivin Pauly’s sister. In her second movie Munthirivallikal Thalirkumbol, Aima played Mohanlal-Meena couple’s daughter. The movie was produced by Sophia Paul’s Weekend Blockbusters.

Aima is basically from Kottayam but has been living with her family in UAE. Kevin is involved in his family business along with handling their production company. Weekend Blockbusters’ first venture was Bangalore Days, which they co-produced with Anwar Rasheed. They have also funded the critically acclaimed Kaadu Pookunna Neram, directed by Dr Biju. Biju Menon’s upcoming movie Padayottam is their next venture.

70 days shoot left for Mohanlal’s Odiyan!

Mohanlal’s Odiyan is unarguably one of the most awaited South Indian films coming up this year. The movie has a theme that has rarely been experimented in Indian cinema. Odiyan is a fantasy film that will have a mix of action, romance and magical realism.

Scripted by National award winner Harikrishnan, the movie is primarily about Odividya, a kind of black magic and people who practice it are called odiyans. There are a lot of stories and myths about odiyans in Kerala’s folklore. Odiyan marks the debut directorial of renowned ad filmmaker VA Shrikumar Menon.

The team has already finished two schedules in Varanasi and Palakkad. The third and final schedule will be commencing next month, once Mohanlal returns back after shooting for Ajoy Varma’s movie. Reportedly, there are 70 more days of shoot left for Odiyan. So, the makers will presumably be working towards an Onam release.

In the movie, Mohanlal plays the role of Odiyan Manikyan, who is said to be the last living odiyan in the world. The story is set in three different timelines starting from the pre-electricty days in the 1950s to 2000. Mohanlal’s Manikyan is a renowned odiyan who lived in the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border in Palakkad. The movie follows his life from his childhood to his 60s.

Mohanlal will be appearing in multiple looks in the movie. He had recently stunned everyone by shedding around 18 kilos of his body weight to play the younger age of Manikyan. A leaner and fitter Mohanlal will be joining the final schedule in February.

Odiyan has some big names, both in the cast as well as the technical side. Veteran actor Prakash Raj and Manju Warrier will be seen in prominent roles in the movie. Narain, Kailash, Siddique and Innocent are also part of the supporting cast.

India’s leading stunt master Peter Hein is choreographing the action sequences. Pulimurugan’s cinematographer Shaji Kumar is wielding the camera and Sreekar Prasad is handling the edits. M Jayachandran is composing the songs and Sam CS of Vikram Vedha fame has been roped in to handle the background score.

Mammootty is all to start the new year with the shoot of his new movie, Abrahaminte Santhathikal – A Police Story. The movie was launched on New Year’s day with a customary pooja and switch on ceremony. Actual shoot will be commencing tomorrow (January 5) in Kochi.

Abrahaminte Santhathikal marks the directorial debut of Shaji Padoor, a veteran who has been in the industry for over two decades. Haneef Adeni of ‘The Great Father’ fame is scripting this movie, which is presumably a cop-action thriller. Mammootty and Anson Paul will be seen as brothers in the movie. Anson is noted for his performance in films like Su.. Su… Sudhi Vathmeekam, Oozham, Solo and the recently released Aadu 2.

Kaniha has been roped in to play the female lead while seasoned actors like Siddique and Kalabhavan Shajon are also part of the supporting cast. Cinematography will be handled by Alby and Gopi Sunder is in charge of the music department. Mahesh Narayanan, who recently turned a director with the widely acclaimed ‘Take Off’, will be editing the movie.

Kunchacko Boban’s Shikkari Shambu is getting ready to hit screens this month. Official trailer of this Sugeeth directorial was released last day through the movie’s official Facebook page. The trailer has got response in social medias. It has fetched over seven lakh views in Facebook within a single day.

Shikkari Shambu marks the reunion of Kunchacko Boban with director Sugeeth and writer Nishad Koya after delivering hits like Ordinary and Madhura Naranga. The movie’s story is written by Shanavas Abbas and Raju Chandra. It is set in a fictional village ‘Kuruthimalakavu’ located at the heart of the beautiful Idamalayar and Bhoothathankettu. The core plot takes off after Peeli, played by Kunchacko Boban, and his gang reach the village in the disguise of wild hunters.

Sshivada has been paired opposite Kunchacko Boban in the movie. Kattapanayile Rithwik Roshan fame
Vishnu Unnikrishnan, Hareesh Kanaran, Krishna Kumar, newbie Alphonsa and Salim Kumar play other major roles. Directors Aji John, Johnny Antony and popular Tamil producer RK Suresh is playing the villain role in this movie. MA Noushad are also part of the supporting cast.

Shikkari Shambu’s shoot has already been wrapped up and the team is currently busy with post-production works. SK Lawrence is producing the movie under the banner of Angel Maria Films.

Here’s the much awaited teaser release date of Rajinikanth’s 2.0

Rajinikanth-Akshay Kumar starrer 2.0 is one film that the whole nation is eagerly looking forward to. The much talked about sci-fi magnum opus directed by Shankar is the sequel of his 2010 blockbuster Enthiran. Made on a massive budget of around Rs 450 crores, it is said to be the most expensive Indian film ever. An exciting bit of information that has come in now is regarding the teaser release.

Actor Karthi, in a recent press meet, revealed that the highly anticipated teaser of 2.0 will be released on January 6th at the celebrity show, Natchathira Thiruvizha, which will be held in Malaysia. Rajinikanth and director Shankar are expected to attend the event.

2.0 was initially supposed to hit screens this month for the Republic Day weekend but it got postponed due to the extensive post-production. Lyca Productions, the producers of 2.0, have informed that the movie will have a worldwide release in April. Though the exact date has not yet been announced, it is widely speculated that the makers are working towards an April 27 release.

The pending VFX and animatronic works are currently being handled by various organisations from more than 10 countries. Legacy Effects, Tau Films, Quantum FX, Double Negative and national award-winning VFX supervisor Srinivas Mohan are all involved in the post-production process.

After a no-release 2017, Vikram will be hoping start this new year on a high as his mass entertainer ‘Sketch’ is gearing up for release. Then movie will be hitting screen on January 12 as a grand Pongal release. Directed by Vijay Chander of ‘Vaalu’ fame, Sketch has Tamannah Bhatia playing the female lead.

The Kerala theatrical rights of this Vikram starrer has been acquired by the Mohanlal owned company Max Lab. Antony Perumbavoor, through his Facebook page, informed that Sketch will be releasing in over 200 centres all across Kerala. It will be a tough battle this Pongal as Suriya’s highly anticipated Thaana Serntha Koottam, Arvind Swamy’s Bhaskar Oru Rascal and Prabhu Deva’s Gulebagavali are also slated to hit screens on the same week.

Sketch is eagerly awaited by Vikram fans as it has been a long while since the actor has done a complete mass action entertainer. Vikram sports a handsome new bearded avatar in this movie.
The movie is a regular commercial pot-boiler set in the locales of North Chennai. Veteran actor Radha Ravi, Soori, Priyanka, Sriman, Ravi Kishan and RK Suresh are also part of the cast.

SS Thaman is handling the music department and M Sukumar has taken care of the cinematography. Director Vijay Chander’s debut movie Vaalu with Simbu and Hansika Motwani in the lead roles, was a failure both critically and commercially. So, the director will be trying to make up for Vaalu’s debacle with Sketch. The movie is being produced by Kalaipuli S Thaanu, who has funded other biggies like Kabali and Theri.

One of the most impressive among them is the one by Aishwarya Suresh, a budding actress who is making her debut with the upcoming movie Kaly.

Aishwarya Suresh’s version of the ‘Pathungi’ song is trending virally in social medias. Her energetic performance has even caught the attention of the composer Shaan Rahman, who has shared it in his Facebook page.

Mohanlal to head to Mongolia for his new movie!

Last year, Mohanlal made a surprise announcement about his new film with Hindi filmmaker Ajoy Varma. It was a surprise since Mohanlal’s schedule was jam-packed with several big projects lined up. But Mohanlal squeezed in dates for Ajoy Varma’s movie after being highly impressed by the subject, which reportedly is a thriller. As per latest reports, the superstar will be heading to Mongolia on the third week of January for the movie’s shoot.

Mohanlal has been on a break for over a month for reducing his body weight. The 57-year-old actor shed around 18 kgs for his upcoming movie Odiyan. The final schedule of Odiyan will commence only after he completes Ajoy Varma’s film. He has allotted 15 days time for the movie. After wrapping up a brief schedule in Mongolia, the team will be next moving to Mumbai to shoot the remaining portions.

Ajoy Varma, a former associate of Ram Gopal Varma and Rajiv Anchal, is making his Malayalam debut with this upcoming movie. He has previously directed a Hindi movie titled SRK. His debut outing in Malayalam, which is yet-to-be-titled, is scripted by newcomer Saju Thomas.

As per reports, Meena and Trisha will be seen as the female leads in the movie. Veteran actor Prakash Raj has also been roped in to play a prominent role. This big budget movie is being produced by Santhosh T Kuruvilla’s Moonshot Entertainment, and co-produced by John Thomas and Mibu Jose Nettikadan. The makers are planning it as a summer release, this coming May.

Streetlights teaser releasing tomorrow!

Mammootty’s Streetlights is gearing up to hit screens this month. The movie marks the directorial debut of noted cinematographer Shamdat Sainudeen. The makers have announced that the much awaited teaser will be released tomorrow through their official Facebook page. Fans are already excited to see Mammootty’s stylish cop avatar.

Streetlights scripted by debutant Fawaz Muhammed is a crime thriller in which Mammootty plays the role of an investigative officer. The movie was shot as a bilingual in Tamil and Malayalam. If reports are to be believed, it is also being dubbed in Telugu. All three verisons are expected to hit screens simultaneously.

Since the movie was shot separately in two languages, it has different set of actors for each version. The Malayalam verison stars Joy Mathew, Dharmajan Bolgatty, Hareesh Kanaran, Neena Kurup, Lijomol Jose, Sohan Seenulal, Indrans, Soubin Shahir and Sudhi Koppa among others.

Veteran actor Pandiarajan, his son Prithvi Rajan, Manobala, Black Pandi, Stunt Silva, Motta Rajendran and some other noted supporting actors feature in the Tamil version. The movie doesn’t have a heroine as such, as it is a tale of many characters.

Newcomer Adarsh Abraham has composed the songs while Yakzan Pereira and Neha Nair are handling the background score. Director Shamdat’s brother Sadat Sainudeen has cranked the camera.

Mammootty himself is producing the film under his banner Playhouse Pictures. Reports suggest January 26 as the potential release date but an official announcement has not yet been made.
